The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Seyta grinned turning her back to Max as she walked to the dance floor. Luckily having three drinks wasn't enough to throw off her balance. Maxwell's glance at the glasses left on the table had seemed like he wasn't sure who had drank them; which was fine with her.
Keeping her back to him Seyta started dancing, swinging her hips just enough to hold his attention without risking anything. Her dress was a bit small to take some faster paced songs. Hopefully she would be able to dance for a few songs before sitting one out.

The term dancing had been so whittled and watered down that society now considered the simple act of grinding against each other. While that sort of 'dancing' did have its appeal, Sledge found it overrated. If you were really so desperate for action, just dance like a normal human being rather than a rambunctious young puppy dog. For one, it tended to impress the ladies more. He listened to the music, picking out the beat among all the other noise that was going on, watching Seyta's hips sway. She had talent, and was able to get in synch with the music proper quickly. Watching her made it easier for him to start dancing.
Nobody would mistake him for a professionally trained dancer. Sledge would not be a background dancer in a music video, nor would he be sought out to teach the stars of the next big Disney Channel television program. He was however a halfway decent dancer, perhaps a bit more than halfway. When you spend as much time sitting and watching people you get to learn the basics, and when you manipulate people into giving you what you want, you practice, practice, practice anything that will get them to believe you.
“Do this often?” he asked, having to nearly shout to get his voice to carry over the music and the other people having equally loud conversations. Yes, his question could easily be considered him trying to chat her up, and it was partially that. Sledge had come to this club more than once before, but never before had he spotted her. Had she been here before he was sure that he would have seen her.
The rhythm was steady and not to fast, helpful in heels, and perfect for keeping a guys attention since she did actually have it. Seyta grinned to herself, she wasn't sure the last time she had actually danced with someone. Turning to face Max she flashed a grin letting his eyes wander over her slightly. Expected and allowable, now that they where up and about.
>> "Do this often?”
Seyta chuckled and shook her head. "I'm more the gimme free drinks kinda gal." The music was a little too loud for a good conversation but it was better than staring at each other awkwardly while that danced.

Seyta was a fairly good dancer, or maybe it was just that she was fairly attractive. Either way Sledge was enjoying himself and was especially enjoying her company. She hadn't blabbed on and on about every little detail of her life, nor had she thrown herself upon him. Even with the way that they were dancing now there was a respectful distance between the two. They were dancing without being lewd unlike those around him. Was it that he was getting old? He really hoped not. Still there was that reminder that Charlie had been close to his current age when David had to be watched by him. Thirty wasn't that far away.
"So more of a bar then? Or do you prefer the dancing as well?" he asked Seyta, drawing a little bit closer. There really shouldn't be a need to shout as loudly when they could just be a tad nearer. While he appreciated the view that was Seyta, he respectfully kept his arms and legs inside his own moving vehicle for the ride. Grabby hands got you nowhere, and when your fist beats a brick wall, it's best to keep the touching minimal.
>> "So more of a bar then? Or do you prefer the dancing as well?"
"Defiantly bars, but dancing is always welcome if I can find a good partner."" Seyta chuckled, this was likely the first time she had been dancing in a few years. She wasn't going to fall for Max just because he got past her powers and stay that way, but it was helping his chances. On the other hand, she deserved to do a little probing about him. "What about you though? Drinker, dancer or does every girl remind you of someone just so you can talk to them?" Perhaps that was a bit harsh, and an obviously a loaded question but it made his reaction easy to judge as legit or not. Continuing to dance she watched him closely but kept a grin so it seemed innocent.

"I'm British," Sledge reminded Seyta, as if his accent wasn't enough evidence, "We all spend our times in pubs you know. Fish and chips and all that” It was a misconception Sledge had noticed ran rampant here. Bars, pubs, clubs, they all had alcoholic beverages that he could imbibe but it was the atmosphere that ultimately made his choice. Want to just get utterly bladdered? Go to a bar. Need home comforts? Pub was the way to go. But if you wanted to have a few drinks and enjoy some frivolous fun there was no better place than a club, especially if it was one in New York City.
Seyta’s comment about girls reminding him of someone confused Sledge. His momentary lapse in focus earlier had not only caused him to repeat his question about dancing, but why he had approached Seyta in the first place. To his knowledge he had never mentioned Anna, so he didn’t know that he had compared Seyta to her in the first place. Instead he was thinking that she had probably heard that chat up line more than a few times. “Actually you do ‘ave a slight resemblance to someone I know. Same hair color, eye color. Mite taller though, and she wouldn‘t wear a dress like that.”
>> "I'm British. We all spend our times in pubs you know. Fish and chips and all that”
Seyta shrugged grinning, she wasn't one for labels unless she put them there herself. But if he wanted to label himself that was fine with her. Saved trouble of coming up with one herself and proved he had a sense of humor. That was a good quality in a guy, especially if he was the butt of the joke.
>> “Actually you do ‘ave a slight resemblance to someone I know. Same hair color, eye color. Mite taller though, and she wouldn‘t wear a dress like that.”
Seyta stopped dancing, one hand on her hip and raised an eyebrow looking right at Max. "Did you just... seriously did you?" He did, he compared her to another woman out loud. To her face even. He might have thought it was a compliment but Seyta was thinking more about hitting him for it. Even at a loss for words Max should be able to tell from her face that he just stuck his foot in it deep.

Such a shame, things had been going well. Sledge knew a great deal about how to act with a woman, he knew what looked good on them, and how to impress them. He hadn't meant to belittle Seyta with his comparison, just inform her that she did look like some one he knew, thus separating him from the others that had said the same thing to her. Once Seyta stopped dancing Sledge halted himself. "It's not like that. Just thought you looked like someone from back home 'sall," He weighed his next words carefully, "Being honest with you and not giving you some chat up line. If you wanted hollow flattery, just for the sake of impressing you, no doubt that any bloke here would be dancing with you now instead of me. We aren't dancing though, and I like that dress on you. Shows that you have excellent taste in fashion."
Hopefully he had been successful in the damage control. It never hurts to give a girl a compliment when trying to smooth things over with her. Seyta only vaguely resembled Anna, just some basic features that were fairly common. Really the only reason why he had even mentioned it was because Seyta had brought it up. Right?

Seyta opened her mouth to say something, then stopped. He seemed to be honest but still... this was a third strike in her book. Even if he was nice about it. She wasn't sure exactly what to do at this point. If he was sincere then is was a simple mistake thinking her suggestion was a genuine offer.
"Fine, whatever..." Seyta turned and walked to the bar. Sine ha had been doing well until now she would give him another chance. If he really was honest he could chase her and apologize again, anything else and she would leave.

Once he set his mind on something, it was very difficult to distract him from it. His attention was on Seyta, and so even though she was acting as though he had done something incredibly offensive, he was determined not to let this go away. In his mind David didn't drop a clanger, which meant that Seyta was acting unreasonable. What was wrong with letting her know about a girl she looked like? It wasn't as though he said that Anna was more attractive, or that he was madly in love with either one of them. Nobody complained when you said that they look like someone famous, why was a resemblance to a regular person such a big deal? Then again Sledge made his living by purposely not looking like anyone famous. The more that he looked like a regular bloke the less likely he was to be well known among the police.
He followed her. It could have been that he wanted to get another drink. Or it could have been that he found Seyta attractive and had been enjoying the challenge. When she agreed to dance he thought that had made significant progress. You don't just dance with a bloke and leave him. It was rude for one. When he caught up to her Sledge tapped Seyta on the shoulder gently to get her attention. Damage control part two, make an ass out of yourself. “You'll 'ave to forgive me. I'm a guy, so by default I am a complete idiot.”
Now might be the time to offer her a drink. Sometimes with a little bit of alcohol people loosen up, become more friendly, more willing to overlook your mistakes. Buying a drink in a club isn't that odd. However if she wasn't the type to become social as she became sloshed offering to get her in such a position would be a very bad idea. “Let me make it up to you? Would you like a cuppa coffee?”
>> “You'll 'ave to forgive me. I'm a guy, so by default I am a complete idiot.”
Seyta nodded slowly, granted she had asked him a loaded question but he was able to apologize correctly.
>> “You'll 'ave to forgive me. I'm a guy, so by default I am a complete idiot.”
Coffee, that was unexpected. At the same time it was a good idea, after three martini's the caffeine might help soften the hangover. "Sure, coffee sounds great." The quick change of heart was a dead give away that she tried to make him look like an *** but he was cute and had managed to push through her powers, twice in fact.

If Sledge actually had been totally honest with Seyta he might have had some sense of shame in asking for her forgiveness. Forgiveness is a powerful thing. To ask for it means that you had shame, that you wanted, sometimes desperately needed, the one you had wronged to wipe your slate clean. The conman didn't care that he had to ask Seyta to forgive him. It was a pathetic excuse for his inappropriate behavior, which had been totally dreamed up by the blonde bombshell he was chatting up.
Contrary to what he claimed was the way of all British blokes, Sledge had no fondness for tea. No matter how much cream or milk you put into it tea always tasted thin to him, and it had been the first thing his mum filled him with whenever he caught cold. Just the texture made him think of being ill again. All psychological he knew, but taste and smell were two of the strongest senses for bringing up memories. If given the choice the conman would take a cup of coffee any day. Add to that his tendency to miss a few nights sleep and it was hardly surprising that he needed that caffeine injection.
"Excellent," he said, grinning at Seyta. This was not the same thing as getting a girl to follow him to his flat, but he had gone from being a leper to her to getting her to go out for coffee. Coffee was truly a wise invention, if for no other reason than the chat up lines it offered. I like my coffee the way I like my women... "I know of a nice little diner where we could have a cuppa, perhaps a bit of mash, keep the worse of the migraines away in the morning."
>> "Excellent, I know of a nice little diner where we could have a cuppa, perhaps a bit of mash, keep the worse of the migraines away in the morning."
Seyta nodded, she wasn't sure what Maxwell meant by mash but if he was paying then she didn't have an issue. More importantly there was coffee involved. "Alright, where's it at?"
If she was going to follow him anywhere she wanted to know where. Easier to get home from someplace if you knew where you were. If things went well enough Maxwell might even earn the right to walk her home, though he would have to earn that.

"Bagels on the Square, on Carmine," he said. Bagels were by no means romantic or flirtatious, only the things that one could use as a topping for them. Hopefully Seyta did not think that he had been spending time with her solely for the reason of bringing her home. If a ladybird thought that you were after that, nine times out of ten you’d be left on your own. Besides the fact that everyone loves bagels, it had been the first place he could think of that would still be open at this hour. Now that the words had come out of his mouth he was committed to going to Bagels. Saying another diner at this point would make him sound like an idiot.
It was a late hour, not quite the bleary eyed point, but technically it was tomorrow, no longer yesterday. Bagels at this hour could be considered a very early breakfast. At least he hadn’t suggested an IHOP. Pancakes, waffles, and bacon were too intense at this hour, though it would help to soak up the alcohol a little.
With his mind now thinking about Bagels on the Square, bringing up a map in his head to determine where they needed to go, what would be the best source of public transportation, and how much money he still had in his wallet, bringing Seyta with him was fading away. Perhaps if Sledge had actually held Seyta’s hand to lead her out he would be able to remember her better, but he refrained from that as much as possible. By the time he had managed to get out of the club his reason why he wanted to go to Bagels was fading fast away. When he managed to flag down a taxi Seyta was still in his mind, but his asking her to come with him for a cup of coffee, along with her forgiving him had fallen away. She might not forgive him for getting in the taxi alone.
