The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Okay, guys - I've been brainstorming. Fever's a thief, and I know that anyone can just create a thread and break into anyplace they like but I was thinking it would be an excellent idea for a little challenge when it comes to taking things which don't belong to you. First of all, I was thinking of setting up threads to various jewellery stores, museums and galleries all over the globe. To these will be added difficulty stats and descriptions of the security systems - it's a way for some of a charrie's stats to actually mean something. So in the description of the establishment, there will be difficulty levels based on different stats - if a charrie's stats are good enough, they can RP (but make it interesting!) thier way straight to the prize. If a charrie's stat isn't good enough (for the more valuable jewels or artwork) they can either join up with another charrie (stats will be boosted) and claim the plunder together, or find some other way of getting in. If everyone is agreeable, I was thinking that I'd update the buildings occasionaly (IE; when a particular thing is stolen, it's replaced with a random new one) with new jewels and artwork/artifacts, and if a building is targeted too much by thieves the managers will update the security systems. So, here's my first wave of ideas -
1) The establishments have prearranged stats (Handled by everyone's favourite emotionmancer - hey, who's idea is this? Don't argue. ;D) which determine their difficulty.
2) The different places will have different security systems which rely on different technology. I'm kind of hoping that this will give mutants a chance to utilise their powers also. Just an example; a room has heat sensors fitted as main defence - Raina has easy access with her power to cover herself in ice.
3) There will be different artwork available at the same time, just like a real place - the thief can go after what they fancy. I'll list a selection of choice peices, which have different difficulties and will be changed periodically.
4) A break-in won't (unless the charrie wants it to) have any consequence on the main plots. It's just like a mini-game for those of us who's characters are thieves by profession, and a chance for people to show off their abilities.
5) Different artwork is worth different amounts - this gives charries motivation to go after more difficult peices, and it also rewards them. Remember - not everyone is gonna' get rich from this, only those who are good thieves and those who do it a lot. Charries without any means of breaking in anywhere just won't be able to cut it.
I know this might work out complicated, but I'm willing to put the work in if people like the idea... I think it'll be fun sorting all this out. I think it'll be a bit like a way for people actually use their stats in a productive way, and make a few restrictions - it'll also influence they way some characters develope their stats, if they want to be theives and make it rich. Obviously nobody is bound to use one of these 'defended' threads - characters can use their own threads without defence just like before even if this does go ahead. I just think it'll be a fun thing for charries to think about and plan, sometimes joining up with other charries to supplement each others stats. Okay, so the reason I'm posting this is becuse one, I want your opinions, and two, I'm hoping for some suggestions and ideas which I can implement into the system, or anything that you think'll make it work better. ;D
Nice. Count me in as Neena. I've been meaning to develop her thievery background a bit, and her personality.
I would suggest putting it in the FanFic, simply so it wouldn't get mixed up with the Main Plots, but that's just me. A hint in the name, or in the initial post would no doubt work just as well, so whatever works.
What would be your policy about bringing in extra tech to help? Nothing drastic, but say night-vision goggles or something. *is glad she comes with those already installed. * Or something else along those lines.
Will security be tech only, or will there be NPC guards to deal with as well? What are the consequences if you fail? Do you get caught and jailed, hypothetically speaking? Or do you simpply get away empty-handed? And is there a limit to how many times you can 'hit' a place?
Just so we were clear, I don't meant to take anything away from you, you have the reigns on the whole thing. I was just suggesting that I borrow said reigns when you want to play the game instead of run it.
Hehehe yeah I get ya' Abyss. Thanks, that sounds great. Once (and if) I get an approval from Lady J I keep you posted about stats and systems.
*will probably most certainly at some point partake of these 'diamonds' of which you speak*
Thought you'd like the idea, Calley
Nice. Count me in as Neena. I've been meaning to develop her thievery background a bit, and her personality.
Hey Neena, Q&A.
1) I imagine Fanfic is the only place it can go, but I'll leave an announcement as to its exact whereabouts.
2) Tools of the trade are allowed (and encouraged! The more creative, the better). So long as poeple don't go overboard - tools will also come with (tiny, baby) stats. If someone wants to utilise a tool, PM me and we'll work out its use and stats. This brings up whole new ideas regarding charries using the money they earn to buy new equipment... Neena is my muse.
3) There will be human defence as well as tech, though the guards will be little more than cannon-fodder. So, they have guns? Meh, so do we. Technically *grins in a sinister way*. Running off the same principal, Neena, failure will usually lead to an escape scene (unless the charrie wants to go to prison, for some obscure reason). If we look at it realistically (I love saying that in regards to an RPG. Heehee), charries who are morally loose enough to steal diamonds probably won't be averse to busting a few heads in the name of freedom. Ergo, what are human police officers going to do with a mutant intent on escape? Little, little, me thinks. Players can hit the same place as often as they like - Fever has a liking of jewels, so he's not gonna' be spotted often in Museums or art galleries. However, like I said - one place hit often enough will result in an update of security.
I think as far as guards go, it would depend on the place you hit and how you it...................
Very true, Shrapnel. Also, all others suggestions were excellent *sighs and dreams...*, however we still have to wait for Lady J's approval of the idea. I've PMed her already and am awaiting a response.
PS: I'm taking notes of all these ideas. Should this get the go-ahead, all these things will make an appearance in the final product. ;D
Okay, so second wave of ideas -
1) As Abyss rightly points out, giving the buildings their own threads will create a lot of unused space. To remedy that, I'm thinking that (in the Fanfic board) this will have two threads: one with the details, descriptions, security, prizes on offer and general info about the game, the other set aside for the actual RPing. So, one thread will encompass every building - players should PM me with the building they would like to break into and we'll start from there.
2) Just an idea (courtesy of the wise, wise Neena). Players can buy tools and equipment which can help them get into a building. I'll list prices and tools available (suggestions for new tools is highly weclome). Again, this bit's just an idea.
3) I'm thinking it would be good for there to be some 'surprise' stats, that is to say, stats which are not obvious to the player. This will add a little danger to the break-in, as players will be unaware that some of the security systems are hidden. I want to have a fair game, so you can trust me not to cheat (and why would I?) but if it makes everyone feel better, an unbiased third person can be appointed - I'll PM that person my secret stats before the RP starts. (I'm thinking one of the mods?)

Quick point as a mod, please just do 1 long post rather than lots of short ones if no one has posted since you last did.
Ok, now on to the topic. Firstly I fully support it and as Statistician offer my help with any stats. Also, could you do some more Medievil stuff for Hunter to break into to represent some stuff from his past? All in all this looks like a lot of fun, and you have my full support.
An engineer, a physicist, and a statistician were hunting. After a short walk they spotted a moose. The engineer raised his gun and fired. The bullet landed 3 metres to the right of the moose. The physicist, realizing that the engineer did not account for the wind, aimed to the left and fired. The bullet landed 3 metres to the left of the moose. The statistician screamed "We got him! We got him!"

Calley
I just want to put in my vote for Abyss' "diamond in the top-ranked thief's sig" idea. OOC, we could all try to steal that from each other.
Oh! And I'd suggest having the stats/descriptions thread, then one thread for each location that people are actually hitting. If there's just one thread for targets, period, then that'll get confusing to post in if more than one team is working on a hit at a time.
Hunter, yes I agree about the posting. I'll also look up 17th century security on the net and devise some good 'ole fashioned swashbucklin' for ya'. Lol

Sounds good, Calley, but the problem would be that there would be unused space. I'll compromise and say that, should the idea prove popular enough, I'll adjust the number of threads accordinly. We'll start with one and see where it leads.
Hades is the perfect thief, but he would not mind challenging himself by not using some powers, i would be interested
Lol each of us think that we deserve the title of Champion Theif, Hades. I guess the only way to find out is for everyone to go for it and see who gets the best jewel/artefact/art piece! ;D
*grins at Hades* This is the world of MRO, Hades. Places which house things of value will have taken mutants into consideration. Remember, heat sensors, motion sensors, abrasive energy beams.. (though agrees that Hades has a big advantage and says, "go fot it!" ;D). Though hopefully the other charries will have a few extra-genetic tricks up their sleeves too.
I wonder if it would be illegal of me to put objects from RL into the threads, like the the Delong Star Ruby in New York or a Rembrandt here and there... hm, I'll look into it.
I'm liking the diamond a lot, Shrapnel. I'm thinking that it would be ever greater to lose the white square around it? Just a sugg'.
Hm... yeah, I know what you're saying about the art copyright thing. Well hey, so long as we only steal them from fictional places I don't think it'll be a problem either. Lol I think if we actually RPed braking into Harrods they'd probably do us all for planning ahead! I think we'll be okay. Still waiting on the A-Ok from Lady J though guys.

Calley
Sounds good, Calley, but the problem would be that there would be unused space.
I was trying to say that we should have threads for the places that are actually being used. None of that make-all-the-possible-places stuff; just if two people are hitting two different places, have those places in two different threads (rather than the same thread) so things stay all organized and easy-to-read-like. Does that make sense?
And Abyss--I'm likin' the diamond. And gettin' rid of the white square is pretty trivial in paint; that's no problem at all.
