The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

She winced as he brought the washcloth to the side of her face. Her eyes rolled to where he was, and she felt a terrible pang of guilt when she thought of how irresponsible she was.
"I'm sorry my love. I promise I'll never do it again."
She wrapped her arms around him, pulling him back onto the bed with her. Taking the cloth away, she tossed it back in washbasin, giggling at the small splash. "How long will we be on this ship?" she asked, as she stroked his hair.
Hey lay back on the bed, staring up at the ceiling with his head on her stomach as she played with his hair. “The journey will take four days, and then we shall arrive at a small port in France and head for Paris.”
Four days. He would need to feed, but fortunately he had already found his victim. That sailor would rue the day he’d laid eyes on Katherine, of that Hunter would make sure.
“I will only have Dominik follow you if I believe there is a risk to you, but next time I’ll tell you first, so he’s not trying to sneak around after you. Dominik never was much good at that.” He said with a small chuckle.
Katherine smiled as she ran her fingers through his hair, carefully and slowly working out the rare tangle. "Paris, eh? I haven't been there in ages." she said contentedly, imagining all the sights and sounds. As she looked about her, she really came to realize what she had done; she had left her home, her family, her whole existance on a whim and left with the man of her dreams--and there weren't even plans of marriage.
How scandalous.
Sighing, she closed her eyes, wondering what her father must have done. "She left?! What?! Now who will pay me for her?" he'd thunder, and most likely need to be calmed down by calling upon three people who owed him money and collecting his dues.
"My father's going to burn in hell one day..." she murmured. Remembering what she had thought of before, she timidly gathered the courage to ask.
"Hunter, not to pressure or anything, but... Do you think marriage is in our future?" she asked, not wanting to scare the man away. After all, she had a great thing going, but women needed a little reassurance as they went.
Hunter looked up at her at the mention of marriage with a smile. “Unless you have someone else in mind I have every intention of marrying you. I hoped to find a suitable ring in Paris and ask in the formal manner. With your approval I’d like us to be married in Transylvania, where my subjects can meet their new Duchess for the first time.”
Rolling onto his front he said, “Why do you ask? Were you worried that I was just going to abandon you in Europe?” As he spoke a mischievous smile played around the corners of his mouth, showing the question was asked in jest. He would never abandon her, come hell or high water.
Katherine literally felt her jaw drop when she heard him say duchess. She had forgotten completely of the fact that he was a duke, and to have it replaced on her mind was like a wake up call. "Duchess... I can barely call myself a noblewoman." she mumbled, before shaking that thought out of her head and then thinking about his next question.
Would he abandon her in the middle of Europe? She seriously doubted it, but there was always the lingering thought in the back of her head that she was constantly trying to squash. She trusted him, but on the basis of how long she knew him and how perfect everything seemed, something was bound to be amiss. Heavens, she had read the paper hadn't she? The atrocities that happened to some people, like the girl who got kidnapped a month ago while walking out of an outhouse... Peering down at Hunter, she tried to picture him kidnapping a woman coming out of an outhouse.
She couldn't.
"Erm, no..." she said, sounding a bit on the loony side.
Hunter pulled himself up next to her and put his arm around her. “There, now are your fears alighted?” He didn’t want her to worry about anything, least of all him. “As for bring the duchess of Transylvania, don’t worry about it. The people are sure to adore you.”
Giving her a gentle squeeze he looked out of the cabin and watched the bustle of activity outside at the port. Shouts could be heard overhead as the captain barked orders to the crew. “Looks like we’re about to set sail. Would you care to watch us cast off from up on deck?”
Katherine looked up as Hunter spoke, hearing the noise for herself. Stay down in a room she'd most likely spend most of her time in for the next four days or go on deck, and see her last glimpse of land for a while... She smiled, and nodded. Standing, she looked at her cloak again, quite liking the feel of it but deciding not to wear it. She picked it up, feeling the fabric in her fingers.
"I've really gotten to like this thing." she said, and set it back down.
Walking over to take Hunter's hand, they walked upstairs. Smelling the cool salt air, she smiled, and wrapped her arm around him. But on the inside, she was looking around for that sailor again, still slightly apprehensive.
Hunter looked around at the various men on deck. All were set about different tasks, ensuring that everything was ready. An older man, with a thick, bushy beard and finer clothing than the rest approached.
“Duke Antonescu,” he boomed in a deep voice, “An honour to ‘ave ye aboard sir. I ‘aint never had such a respectable passenger as yarself, and yar charming lady. I’m Capin Jacobs, master of this ‘ere ship.” He said with a bow to Katherine. “If ye don’t mind sir, I’d like a word with ya, in private.”
Hunter paused a moment, unwilling to leave Katherine after what happened last time. Whistling sharply he then replied, “Is it essential that you speak to me, I’m sure whatever the matter is my assistant Dominik here,” he indicated the huge man, who had come up on deck upon hearing the whistle, “can settle the matter.”
“No sir,” said Captain Jacobs, “I’m ‘fraid this ma’er requires me ta speak wid ya personally.”
Hunter turned to Katherine with a look that asked her if she would be alright with Dominik. While the huge man did not posses Hunter’s abilities, he was a capable combatant, who could fight three men and win. Hunter was sure the no harm would come to her while Dominik stood guard, but he would not leave her is she felt unsafe.
Katherine looked at Hunter with widened eyes, attempting to calm herself enough to nod. She had been particularly jumpy after the incident in the cargo hold, but she smiled with relief when Dominik came by.
"Go ahead... I'll be fine." she said, smiling at him.
With a quick kiss, she turned around to face the port, Dominik at her side.
With Katherine’s approval he followed to captain to his cabin not far away. Jacobs motioned for him to take a seat, which he did. The captain strode around to his chair and sat down heavily.
“Now sir,” he began, “I’ve been told of a scuffle down in’t holds a’tween yarself and one o me crew.”
“That’s correct captain,” Hunter confirmed, “he attempted to rape my fiancé. I took measures to prevent him. He is only still breathing because I will not kill in front of Katherine.”
“I see,” said the captain slowly. The dangerous glint in Hunter’s sliver eyes showed that the sailor was luck to be alive. “In that case I’ll ‘ave ‘im whipped, ya’ll have no more trouble from the crew sir, ye ‘ave my word.”
“Thank you captain,” said Hunter, rising and shaking Jacobs’ hand, “I appreciate your cooperation.” With that Hunter left the cabin and headed back to Katherine and Dominik. On the way he spotted a sailor gaping at Katherine from behind, but at a glare from Dominik the man suddenly made himself very busy.
Reaching Katherine Hunter slipped his arms around her waist and kissed the top of her head. “Ready to say goodbye to England?”
She jumped a little when he slid his arms around her, thinking it was the sailor before relaxing and smiling as her mind took in the correct scene. She leaned into him, feeling his toned body against hers, and she sighed. She felt like she was floating just by being in his arms.
"I'm more ready than you could ever believe." she laughed.
Turning, she faced the port, and took a long look at the little town they had stayed in. It would always hold memories for her, and with a smile she thought of her father and mother, the sisters from the ball, the pretentious suitors, and her meadow... That was what she would miss the most. However, she finally realized that what she had was what she had always wanted, and with a deep breath, let go of England and was ready for the rest of the world.
With a final barked order from the captain the ship began to move as it set out for the open sea. Hunter simply held Katherine as he watched the shore grow steadily smaller. Out of the corner of his eye he saw the sailor who attacked Katherine approached by a trio of men who sized him and dragged him away.
A smile played across his lips, what those three would do to him would be nothing compared to what Hunter would do. That whipping would feel like a lovers caress after he was done with the man.
That same smile sauntered over to Katherine's face, bringing a light and happiness to her features that was easily contagious. Looking upwards, she noticed it had become quite dark.
"Should we head in darling?" she asked Hunter, her feet already edging back to the quarters.
It had been such a long and demanding day that she simply needed some quiet with her lover to settle things down. Not to mention, it felt like years since she had last felt the warm feeling of warm sheets over her. With a giggle, she slowly took a hold of his hand--a rough yet gentle appendage--and started to lead him back.
With a wordless smile Hunter followed her towards their cabin. A nod to Dominik set him about a task that Hunter had set for him earlier. Dominik would prowl the ship and learn everything he could about the vessel and the men aboard it.
As they stepped into the cabin Hunter shut and locked the door behind him before turning to Katherine with a smile. “So, is this your first time sailing?” he asked with a playful smile.
Katherine tilted her head and looked at Hunter with a playful smile as he locked the door. Bringing him closer to her she pressed her body against his, revelling in his touch as she had for so long. "No, actually. I've been to France before, but never actually explored it. My father was scared of our spending money you see."
Laying down on the bed, she smiled at Hunter. "As I'm sure you must have sailed plenty of times before this?"
