The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Mike looked, but paid little attention since it was, obviously, not a taxi. "That's pretty much right. I got good at hiding what I knew, but it didn't matter much at my old schools. They knew I was a mutant, and that made me a target."
The scar in his side stung as he thought about that, but he did his best to shake it off and keep walking.
"I tried to keep going. I switched schools four times after getting into fights with the other students, and subsequently getting sued by their parents. THen at the last one I got stabbed, spent a few weeks in a hospital, and decided enough was enough, that I wanted to come here. Of course, my father would hear none of it, he just wanted me to sit down, act normal, and stop 'being a mutant'. We hollered at each other for a while, said some things we're never going to take back, and I left." He smirked slightly. "And that, in a nutshell, is my life story."
"Finally, a taxi," Mike muttered, flagging down the battered yellow car.
Michael, likewise, held the door open for Dia and gestured for her to get inside. He gave the cabbie the Institute's address on Graymalkan Lane, then settled himself into the seat.
"And no worries," Dia heard Mike's voice in her mind say, "He doesn't recognize the address, and it's dark enough that he doesn't notice anything strange about us."
Mike couldn't help but be excited along with her, but there wasn't anything to do to speed up the ride. For the next half hour they rode, chatting idly about what to expect at the school, until finally the gates loomed before them.
((skip to present as you like, it's time we join the real action )
((new thread if you want, but this thread is already a day or so behind the current threads. Might as well stay here until we get her settled in))
Mike, of course, caught all those emotional flashes. "Don't worry, we're all different here," he teased as they headed in to find anyone on staff to get Dia into the school.
It didn't take very long for them to turn up a staff member, who set Dia up with the usual tedious paperwork while they saw about getting a room set up for her. Mike sat down and started helping her with some of the more monotonous pieces, watching out of the corner of his eye for the staff member to show back up with her key.
"Penny for your thoughts?" Mike asked as he sat back in the comfortable, expensive chair in the currently-vacant headmasters' office. He smiled slightly as she looked up. "It's a lot to take in, isn't it?"
"Well, if you get a penny for your own thoughts, just think of how much someone else's would be worth. I could be rich," Mike grinned.
As to her second comment, Mike just shrugged. "As long as you can find your room, you're in good shape. After all... if you can eat and sleep, you're golden."
"Yes, but finding the dining room and your bed can help with that quite a bit," Mike said with a smile, motioning her to follow. Together they set off and found her room, and eventually split up for the night. Mike crashed in his room, exhausted, hoping that the next days classes wouldn't be too mind-consuming.
