The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Charlie's world had been officially rocked three times today.
The first was finding some poor child who somehow beat the odds and was illiterate.
Second, she'd taken part in a police/motorcycle car chase.
And third, there was actually a safe place for mutants to both hide away from society and go to school with other mutants.
She stumbled slightly as she walked, simply from the rush of questions that slammed her in the back of the head. Namely: How was she dumb enough to not hear about this any sooner? After all, this is exactly the kind of thing she'd been after for a long time, ever since she'd messed with the school Library in Freshman year.
"My big brother there too. You meet him. He's cute, for you.”
It took Charlie just a few seconds to fully comprehend what Rhythm had just said. After all, she did have a lot of other things on her mind. But eventually she figured it out. Then she giggled, then she just couldn't hold back, and broke out laughing.
" I have to say, I'm not quite sure how to respond to that." Charlie could barely get the words out for her laughing
>>" I have to say, I'm not quite sure how to respond to that."
Ashley smiled as she finished her hotdog, wiping her hands on her sundress. It wasn't the most ladylike thing to do, but she had no napkins and, whatever, the stuff would wash out. They walked on companionable silence for awhile, Ashley actually enjoying the company Charlie provided before turning back to the woman with the funny accent, a thoughtful look on her face. She wanted to provide more information, but realizing they only real reason she'd ever been to The Mansion before was to get patched up after being injured...and that was about it.
“Ummm...” she thought hard, placing a pointer finger on her chin and tapping it a few times shaking her head. “Dun know much. Nice people, really. Getting in...dunno how. Maybe you ask? I know, ummm...you can live. There. If you wanna. Dunno how...”
She felt decidedly useless then, but didn't know how else to go on. She huffed and crossed her arms. “No more to say, really. Haven't been there, not much. But...it's nice. Trust me. See? There. Not far, told you?”
Ashley pointed to The Mansion, glad to see it after blocks of walking. She didn't realize how far walking really entailed anymore...or she did and she merely forgot after getting her motorcycle. Having a rocket between your legs that carried you from point A to point B in what seemed like minutes really screwed with your sense of direction when you eventually had to walk.
“Come!!” Ashley reached down and grabbed Charlie's hand and began to run, then let go a moment later. “Race you!!”

"Ummm...you can live. There. If you wanna. Dunno how..."
Charlie slowly nodded. It was tempting. As in really, really tempting. Half her mind was envisioning her life at this Mansion place. The other half was busy playing Devil's Advocate. Yes, this seemed ridiculously awesome, but what would her mother wind up saying? What would Stace think? And her sister...well, actually, her sister would probably support her all the way. Charlie figured that little Steph would probably be happy to get rid of her weird older sis.
Charlie didn't actually hear most of what Rhythm said after that. But she noticed the girl pointing ahead of them, and followed her finger.
That must have been it.
Charlie felt her heart skip a beat.
It stood like some kind of brick ocean liner in a sea of grass and trees, and all of it buried deep in a forest of concrete and glass. There weren't that many other words that could possibly describe it. No single phrase could do it justice. With the exception of the fact that Charlie had a new reason for living there.
Naturally, her companion dragged her out of reality by snatching her hand out of her pocket with a loud, "Come!!" Charlie wasn't used to being dragged suddenly like that. Stacey just kind of wandered one direction or the other. She wasn't prepared for Rhythm to let go, either. but when she hollered out, "Race you!!", instinct kicked in. With a loud, "You're on!", Charlie started running hard and fast in the general direction of the Mansion.
She wasn't a very good runner. So naturally, she lost the race.
