It took a second for it to register what Kate had just done. She had gotten so wrapped up in the moment that she hadn't even realized what she was doing until it was done. Her eyes widened with panic when Andrew didn't say anything. What was she going to do? Kate couldn't say a word all she could do was stand there in panic. Kate wanted to run. She could have gone upstairs and waited a little bit before coming back down to eat so she could go to bed. She would be tired because of it but who cared.
"I'm sorry... I..." She started backing away preparing to bolt.

"I...uh...no...uhm..."
Apparently though his brain was functional once more it hadn't quite established control over his mouth just yet. That was annoying. On top of that he just wasn't sure what to do. He sort of had two girls to worry about now. How on earth had that happened?! Ok, yeah he was sort of at fault for the whole Verdy thing. He was the one who had initiated that first kiss on a dare to himself. He hadn't even tried anything like that with Kate!
She'd kissed him on the cheek before but Andrew had eventually dismissed it. Stupid idea on his part it would seem. Kate looked like she was about ready to bolt. Andrew had to get his thoughts in order enough to say something. At least explain that he wasn't interested at the moment.
"It's...alright."
He managed to force himself to start talking. Despite the fact that he didn't know what on earth he was going to say exactly. As he calmed down he still found it difficult to find any sort of words that didn't seem overly harsh.
"You just, uh, caught me off guard is all."
That and more but he just couldn't figure out how to put the rest of it into words at that precise moment in time.

Kate listened to Andrew dig for words. She couldn't' determine if he was digging because he was surprised or if he was digging because he didn't have anything nice to say. Most of her thought that latter. Why had she done that and how was she ever going to face him again? This was probably the most embarrassing moment of her entire life so far. She had just made herself look like a fool, and for what? Nothing that's what.
So, Kate did what she had been doing since she was a kid when it came to stuff like this. She turned and ran so she could hide. She ran down the hall and up the stairs and into her room. She ran right into the closet, not even stopping to close the doors before hiding in a corner curled up in a ball. If she hadn't been so upset she may have even realized how perfect an ending this was the such a horrible day. And to think, it had been looking up only 5 minutes ago.
