The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

>>“I have their ‘demo’ cassette somewhere. I’ll convert it a cd and burn it onto my laptop for you when you I get home. You have an e-mail address?”
"Sure" Gemma grinned; Jorge looked more and more alarmed by the minute. Maybe it was cruel to play with him like that; but it was a part of her past he hadn't really talked about before, and she was curious. Also, she was making friends with Jayda, and that was a plus.
>> “Big Pine Mall, 2002.”
>> “Hey, that was not my fault! That guy should not have cut in front of me just to walk his dog.”
>>“It was a seeing-eye dog, Jayda!”
>>“Whatever. He still flipped me the bird.”
Oh boy. So maybe agreeing with Jayda was not such a good idea. Gemma swallowed, but showed no sign of changing her mind; she was in it now, whatever it was, and damned if she was going to back out of it.
The rest was argued between Jayda and Jorge, and of course, the sister won. Sisters always win. Even Gemma knew that, and she didn't even have a sister. Or a brother.
>>“Alright, I’m off. Be careful and make sure she doesn’t get into trouble.”
>>“I won’t, bro.”
>>“Wasn’t talking to you, Jayda.”
"Don't worry, we'll stay out of trouble. You know us." Gemma grinned, kissing him before he left. So now it was only her and Jayda. Gemma put on her coat, and picked up her things.
"Ready to go" she smiled, locking the door behind them "Let's go hunt for some food. We didn't have time to get breakfast."

>> "Don't worry, we'll stay out of trouble. You know us."
Jorge kissed Gemma back before he disappeared out the door. You know us… that’s exactly what he was afraid of. The detective knew his sister all too well and knew that if she were left alone with Gemma for too long, practically every embarrassing story that she could think of about him would be uttered. And not only that, but Jayda could be a bit…abrasive. She could be all sweet and jokes one minute, then suddenly she could turn and really let you know how she felt. He prayed that would not happen in front of Gemma. The last thing he needed was for that kind of drama.
So, as the detective headed down the stairs, out his building and into his Impala, he took on last glance up at the window to his apartment. He waited for a minute, was impressed neither of them went sailing out into the open air and breathed a small sigh of relief.
“Only the rest of the day to go,” he muttered as he started his car. Another look, another pang of fear, and he drove off into the street. He would definitely get Jayda back for this later.
***
>> "Ready to go…Let's go hunt for some food. We didn't have time to get breakfast."
Jayda nodded with a grin as she stepped aside and let Gemma lock the door behind her. She had to admit that so far she liked the broad, but she would not let too much of that notion get out right away. Right now it was just fun to having someone else around in order to make fun of baby brother.
“Then by all means, let’s go.” She grinned as he headed down the stairs. Once they got outside, she watched as her brother’s Impala disappeared down the street. “You know, I still surprised he has that car. That was the first car dad ever got for him when he was eighteen. I don’t think he’s ever so much as looked at another car since then.”
With a chuckle and a shake of her head she turned and headed down to the other end of the parking lot. Once there she stopped in front of what had to be a beauty of a motorcycle. It was a 2002 Softtail Heritage Classic, black with a silver lining and a jaguar decal painted on the side of the fuel tank. She grinned as she walked up to her baby, reached into a pouch that was strapped to the back seat and pulled out a spare, plain black helmet. She deftly tossed it over to Gemma.
“Ever ridden one before?” she asked as she slipped on her own helmet and climbed onto her ride. She then patted the spot behind her and waved Gemma over. “Come on sweetie. I’m sure two classy ladies like us can find a decent place to eat.” She grinned through her helmet as she revved the engine to her cycle and awaited Gemma to climb aboard.

She was left alone with Jayda; she knew Jorge would probably spend the whole day worrying about them. She'd have to talk to him later to calm him down. He had a lot to worry about, even without his sister and his girlfriend talking about him behind his back.
She caught the helmet Jayda tossed at her.
"It has been a while" she admitted; she hasn't sat on a motorcycle since... forever. She used to, back in the day, before she got married, and had boyfriends who were a bit more... adventurous than her husband. Putting on the helmet, she climben on board behind Jayda.
"Let's go." she grinned "You can choose a place."
Jdging from what she found out about Jayda and her driving habits so far, she wouldn't be able to pick a place fast enough anyway.

Jorge sighed as he drove through the streets of New York and headed for his precinct. To be honest her was happy to see his sister but she had to unfortunate ability to always choose the wrong time to make her presence known. She could have been just a little considerate for once in her life that he would not bend over backwards to accommodate her. He had done it plenty of times back in Florida, over the course of her life. How many traffic tickets or illegal park jobs did he make disappear? How many times had he bailed her out of jail for public fighting? He had hoped by now that that would have at least earned him the courtesy of a phone call before she arrived.
But, what else could he expect from her? That simply was just who she was.
He sighed as he drove into the precinct parking lot and checked his cell phone. So far no calls of terror from either Gemma or his sister. He hoped that it would stay that way. Then again, if things went well between them…that could only mean one thing…they found common ground in making fun of him. The options were not boding well for him.
Another anxious check of his cell phone and the detective simply shoved it back into his pocket. He would have to wait until either the end of the day or for one of them to call to find out how things were going. For a second he wondered if this was how Gemma felt when he met her kids for the first time. Resolving to wait and find out, Jorge climbed out of his car and made his way into the precinct. There was enough work there to distract him.
There was still that unsolved murder to look into. Mysteries never sat well with him, especially when there was no conceivable solution in sight.
****
>> "Let's go…You can choose a place."
“Smart woman,” she grinned as she waited until Gemma was secure on the back of her bike.
Once she was ready there was another rev of the engine before Jayda quickly pulled out of the parking lot and into the main street amidst a barrage of irritated honking and lewd gestures. Jayda only paid them back in kind as she drove through the streets of New York like she lived there all her life and had every right to do so. She weaved in between traffic, came close to running a couple of red lights, and the whole time she simply grinned and laughed through it all. Though she could feel the tightening of Gemma’s grip on her waist, Jayda did not let up. After all, the measure woman was whether or not they could take a fast ride on a Harley!
At least that’s what Jayda’s view was. And this was important to make sure that this Gemma was a good woman. She couldn’t let just ANY woman date her brother.
As they finally rounded a corner, Jayda nodded to a restaurant that she recognized as also a franchise in Florida, The Log Hut. The whole exterior of the building looked as if it were made of wood logs, like a giant Lincoln Log set. But this made the place seem more rustic and hearty. In essence that is exactly the kind of image this place was going for, good ole wholesome, American food that catered to no specializations or substitutions. So, after ceremonious cutting off and replying to the driver’s curses with a lewd gesture of her own, Jayda pulled into the parking lot and immediately killed the engine when she found a proper slot.
To be honest she was pretty hungry herself now. She pulled off her helmet and glanced over at Gemma with a grin. “Ready to eat?”

Gemma held on for dear life as the bike tore through the New York traffic. Jayda was fearless bordering on mad, and not really plite to the fellow drivers. Still, this attitude of her came with good reflexes, and Gemma was very grateful for that. Also for arriving to her restaurant of choice in one piece and without police cars chasing them.
(That would be one heck of a way to start a day, having Jorge hear about their little trip from his colleagues)
>>“Ready to eat?”
Taking of the helmet, Gemma shook her hair free, and smirked back at Jayda. She could tell part of her crazy biker act way a test to see how well she could handle stress... but Gemma felt okay. A crazy ride on a bike was not gonna faze her.
"Sure, let's go." she nodded with a grin, and they walked into a restaurant. Finding a free booth, Gemma sat down, skimming the breakfast menu and glancing at Jayda once or twice. She was sure she was going to be interrogated sooner or later; she left it up to Jayda to decide when and how she wanted to start the interrogation. They had all the time in the world.

Once they were seated and relaxed in the restaurant, Jayda smiled as she looked over the menu. Just like the outside, the whole place seemed very rustic and spoke volumes about the good old American fare that they served. One glance at the menu proved that no matter what they were not one of these franchises that were worried about certain trans-fats, low calorie, etc. They seemed to hold onto the notion that people going into their establishment knew exactly what they were getting into. You went there to EAT, not to diet. And that could definitely be said of Jayda’s personality.
She sighed as she looked over the menu, caught a glance or two that Gemma shot at her, and she smiled a bit inwardly. She remained quiet and said nothing as she looked over the menu until she finally made her selection for when the waiter finally made his way over to them.
Taking a sip of complimentary water, the biker woman looked up at Gemma and just watched her for a moment before she nodded to the menu in her hand. “They have great biscuits and gravy here. They always know how to make it just right.”
She smirked as she reached into her jacket pocket, switched her blackberry into silent mode and finally slipped it back into her pocket. Her deep brown eyes, so much like her brothers, never left Gemma as she waited for the woman to decide what she wanted for breakfast. When it seemed like the woman had finally decided, the older sister came out in Jayda Cervantes.
“So…don’t let this get out, okay?” she asked sincerely. “I actually do love my brother. His whole life we’ve been pretty close so I know him pretty damn well. But you’re new to the equation and that’s completely thrown my radar on you off. He’s never let anyone get this close to him, since Nichole that is, I’m assuming he’s already told you that story by now. So you must be something pretty special, Gemma.” She said with a friendly smile. “But I’ll lay this out in the open right now. You seem pretty down to earth, and I like you so far. But you break his heart, I’ll break your arm. Nothing personal, but I love that big lug and I won’t have him hurt, get me?”
“Hello! Well to the Log Hut! Are we ready to order?”
“Yes…ugh,” she leaned in to read the waiter’s name tag, “Nick! I’ll have the Jackhammer Breakfast.” She said cheerfully and looked across the table to Gemma.
“Excellent choice! And you?” he said as he turned to Gemma.

Back at the precinct, in the MRC division, Jorge sat at his desk, filing through some paperwork when there was a sudden chill. Up his spine his shuddered as he paused and turned to glance at his phone. He watched it momentarily, his eyebrow raised. It was almost like he expected it to suddenly ring, but instead he simply sat there and watched it. Finally one of the other officers, Clemens, called out to the zoning out Jorge.
“Cervantes! You okay?”
Jorge mutely nodded before he shook his head and finally returned to reality. He turned back to Clemens and nodded once more. “Yeah, just…felt a disturbance in the force.”

Gemma listened to Jayda with a smirk, setting the menu aside for the time being. Here comes the big speech. She'd been expecting it, especially from a woman like Jayda.
>>“But I’ll lay this out in the open right now. You seem pretty down to earth, and I like you so far. But you break his heart, I’ll break your arm. Nothing personal, but I love that big lug and I won’t have him hurt, get me?”
The waitress came and went; Gemma ordered breakfast for herself, not really paying attention. Once they were alone again, she turned back to Jayda, resting her chin in her palm.
"I've had my arm broken recently" she said with a smirk "I was protecting him from a pack of werewolves."
She paused, letting the sentence sink in, before the natural smile returned ot her face "I know you are worried about him, I would be too, if I had a brother. Look, I can't promise you a relationship will last forever, but I can tell you I don't like breaking hearts either."
And that was that. Gemma felt like it as her turn to ask questions.
"So, Jayda, Jorge never told me. Are you a mutant too?"

>> "I've had my arm broken recently…I was protecting him from a pack of werewolves."
The sentence sunk in and for a second Jayda had no idea what to say. For moment she believed that maybe the woman was just completely off her rocker. That maybe the bike ride to the restaurant had just cracked what fragile bit of a psyche she had. Not everyone could take the way that Jayda rode. But then she remembered her brother and what his job entailed. Why not battle off a pack of mutant werewolves?
She grinned and nodded.
“Good, don’t let him be the one to do all the rescuing,” she winked as she sat back and sipped her complimentary water. “We wouldn’t want him to get to high an ego on himself do we? But…it’s good to hear you can take a punch. That’s always a plus in my book.”
>> "I know you are worried about him, I would be too, if I had a brother. Look, I can't promise you a relationship will last forever, but I can tell you I don't like breaking hearts either."
Jayda listened and remained unmoving for a long time. Her deep brown eyes just seemed to stare right through Gemma, searching for any time of lies or misdirection the woman COULD be trying to pile on. Finally she just smiled wide and nodded her head.
“You definitely seem too good to be true,” she said with an approving nod. “That’s good enough for me. You’re a good woman Gemma and I respect you’re honesty.”
>> "So, Jayda, Jorge never told me. Are you a mutant too?"
“No, plain old human for me,” she said with a smirk. “Unless being able to beat up your younger brother is a power, then I’m golden.”
She was definitely liking this woman now. So far Gemma did seem to be perfect for her little brother. She was down to earth, strong, she could withstand a good bike ride, and she was attractive. Now that she thought back on it, Gemma did remind her a little of Nichole. Maybe that was just the type of woman that Jorge was interested in. The strong type that he could both take care of and depend on him to have his back when the situation called for it. Nichole was only 15 when she died, but she exhibited all those traits. Right now Gemma seemed to be showing that same strength. She had to commend her for that.
“ So tell me, why is nice woman like you by herself anyway? I know why my brother is, because he’s just being Jorge. I’ve seen some bad women come into his life and some flighty ones and usually I can pick up on them right off the bat. But you…are a complete mystery to me. So tell me some more about yourself. Then maybe I might entertain you about my fascinating history.”

>>“You definitely seem too good to be true. That’s good enough for me. You’re a good woman Gemma and I respect you’re honesty.”
Gemma chuckled and raised her glass. "Cheers to that." She respected honesty too, and Jayda had great amounts of that. She was starting to see why Jorge was worried and cheeful at the same time bout the two of them meeting. In many ways, they were alike.
>>“No, plain old human for me, Unless being able to beat up your younger brother is a power, then I’m golden.”
"Nah, that's completely natural" Gemma grinned. So, Jayda was human. That also explained a lot about her relationship with her brother. Being the only mutant in a family was not unlike being an only child.
>>“ So tell me, why is nice woman like you by herself anyway? I know why my brother is, because he’s just being Jorge. Gemma smirked, and sipped her drink.
"I used to be married." she confessed "I've got two kids too. I already had a family when I found out I am what they call an adapted - I have an aura that nullifies mutant powers." she sighed "I started working with mutant children. Turns out my abilities come in handy, every once in a while." she smirked "My husband didn't handle it too well, so... we got divorced. Since then, it's been just me and the kids. They are in college now." she finished the story, and sipped her drink again. "Jorge might be... just Jorge, but I doubt I'm much more experienced than he is. He's my first serious relationship since the divorce."
Jayda looked all too intrested. Food arrived. Gemma sat back with a grin.

>> "I used to be married…I've got two kids too. I already had a family when I found out I am what they call an adapted - I have an aura that nullifies mutant powers…I started working with mutant children. Turns out my abilities come in handy, every once in a while…My husband didn't handle it too well, so... we got divorced. Since then, it's been just me and the kids. They are in college now…Jorge might be... just Jorge, but I doubt I'm much more experienced than he is. He's my first serious relationship since the divorce."
She had never heard this…”adapted” term before but the explanation made sense. She had to grin. To see Jorge without his powers would be awesome. No wonder Gemma seemed able to keep him in line.
Jayda was silent the whole time that Gemma spoke. She was in fact very interested in what she had to say. When Jorge had first mentioned that the woman was divorced, that immediately sent warning signals off in her head. She did not like the idea of her baby brother dating a woman with any mar on her record like that. To her, divorce was black and white. Someone was at fault and in this day and age, it could easily be the woman’s.
But as she listened to her story, she had to commend her. Yes, divorce was had but it was not in fact her fault. Instead it was the man who simply did not understand the woman’s need to help other mutants who were having a rough time. That could be dangerous because from what she’s heard from her brother, not every mutant wants to be helped when they are on the wrong path. That was their decision. Though it may seem like the stupid one, it tends to happen. Some people just don’t know how to take help when it is offered to them.
The kids though, that was a touchy issue for her. She had never really see Jorge with grown up kids. On the job he either ran into young children who needed his help, or into older young adults who did nothing other than claim that he was holding them back from their hedonistic lifestyle. So she had to wonder if her brother has even met her kid’s yet…
She had to smirk though as it was her turn to raise her glass to Gemma.
“To the idiot men and the morons they turn into,” she grinned as she took another sip and happily accept their food when they came. “That is good that you are doing something that you love and care about. Must be pretty dangerous though. I’m sure not every mutant kid wants to be told ‘no’.”
>> "All right. Your turn."
She shrugged as she happily looked down at her meal that seemed more fit for some logger rather than a woman. She cut into the steak with her knife and forked, sipped it into her over easy eggs and sighed a bit in satisfaction when she took a bite. It was apparent that she was pretty hungry.
“Not much to say actually. I am the oldest, Jorge is both my best friend and my worst rival,” she said with a grin. “He went to college, I dropped out because I wanted to spend all my time around broken down cars, motorcycles and other things. Our folks were livid at first but they accepted that that is what I wanted to do so whily Jorge studied literature, I studied old engines. Finally, I was able to open my own classic cycle and car repair shop. I helped our dad get Jorge’s first car when back when he was eighteen. That was good summer, we spent fixing it up.” She sighed a little heavenly as she sipped her orange juice. “But onto the good stuff, no divorces, I don’t believe in marriage for specially that reason. Every relationship I’ve been in ended with the guy angry because ‘I’m too much of a tomboy’ or some such. And that’s pretty much it. I run my garage, I have a small crew of good guys and I keep in touch with my brother and my ever loving family.” She said with a grin.
Jayda, the epitome of the strong woman, only smiled as she watched Gemma from across the table. There was no mistaking that she liked and respected the woman thus far. She only hoped that she would not be wrong in her assumptions about her. After all, she had been wrong about plenty of things, at least none that she would ever tell Jorge about. Still…she liked the woman across from her.
She finally then addressed Gemma’s earlier comment about this being her first serious relationship since her divorce. “So…this thing you got going with Jorge…worthy of the ‘serious’ label huh?” she smirked to herself. It was good to hear but she could not let it go so easily. “You like the lug that much?”
***
Back at the precinct, Jorge stood in front of a bulletin board, looking over photos from the latest case. Everyone so far said it was a mystery. Toxicology was taking it’s time getting a result to him and there did not seem to be any other leads. The only thing was that the young lady killed…she was a mutant. That alone the media could have a field day with if they could not find a motive for the death. He sighed, pinched the bridge of his nose and fended off a headache. He had been staring at these pictures for far too long now.
Then he felt another shiver up his spine as he glanced at his phone. Still no text messages or calls from Gemma or his sister. Either one had succeeded in killing the other or more embarrassing stories about him were being told. He glanced at the clock and realized that he had only been at work an hour! It was going to be a long day if he did not hear from one of them.
“I need to relax,” he said as he took a breath and wandered over to the doughnut table. He sighed as he picked out the last glaze and took a rather large bite. “What’s the worst that could happen right?”

"That is exactly why my abilities come in handy." she smirked. Mutant kids took 'no' much easier if they did not have their mutations to throw a tantrum.
Gemma ate her breakfast, and listened to Jayda's story. She was a strong woman, much of a tomboy, and she owned the attitude. Gemma could imagine it was not easy for her to find a date who wouldn't run away. She could relate to that. Still, Jayda seemed happy in her independence. And she loved her brother.
>>“So…this thing you got going with Jorge…worthy of the ‘serious’ label huh? You like the lug that much?”
The dark skinned woman smiled a mysterious smile. "Maybe I do." she admitted "He is a good guy, but you know that too, I guess." she smirked "We... got into all kinds of trouble on our first few dates. Jayda shared a knowing smirk before she finally just shrugged. “Yeah that sounds like my little brother. He has such a hero complex. Sometimes I swear I would not be surprised if he were to running around in spandex and a cape.” She chuckled heartily before she arched a brow and looked squarely at Gemma. “Unless that’s some game you two play. If so, ew, I really don’t want to know that.”
She shuddered as she wiped her mind free of the thought and merely smiled back at Gemma. Yeah, it was good to say that the woman seemed to be pretty solid. She was strong, knew how to handle herself and she really seemed to care about her brother. That was always good to know. She really did not want to break the woman’s arm, but she could if the need arose. Then, just as she was about to speak again…her cell phone rang.
She grinned and winked at Gemma.
“I know who that is,” she said as she hit the talk button on her phone and held it up to her ear…after she let it ring a few times. “Ahoy, ahoy.”
“Jayda? Did drop Gemma off already?” came Jorge’s voice. Jayda set the phone on speaker just so Gemma could hear.
“Oh, was on my way little bro, but we got side tracked. Nice little strip joint around the corner from your house!” she grinned as she lied over the phone.
“What? Jayda you better be joking!”
“Gemma! Don’t worry! They’re supposed to take off their pants when you give them a dollar! Wooo! Shake it hunny! Sorry Jorge, bit busy right now! Talk to you later!”
“Jayda don’t you dare hang up o-“
Jayda smirked as she closed her phone and just flashed a smile at Gemma. She really did take a lot of pleasure in torturing her brother. But she gave Gemma that winning smile snagged up the bill from the table for their breakfast.
“Don’t worry, I’ll call him back and tell him you’re fine,” she grinned. “What we should do is buy a man’s pair of thongs and leave them at his apartment. He’ll go nuts. Now come on, I did promise I’d get you home safely and I will! Unless you have errands to run. I don’t mind being your chauffer for the day. Beats sitting at Jorge’s apartment and messing up things just to irritate him further when he gets back.”

>>“Yeah that sounds like my little brother. He has such a hero complex. Sometimes I swear I would not be surprised if he were to running around in spandex and a cape. Unless that’s some game you two play. If so, ew, I really don’t want to know that.”
Gemma smirked and shook her head. "Definitely not. I think he has enough caped heroes to deal with in his line of work, he doesn't need them in his free time. And neither do I." she chuckled. Now, that was an image. Ew.
And then, the cellhpone rang.

Gemma shook her head in disbelief, listening to the conversation; she really didn't want to torture Jorge even more, but Jayda was so convincing it made her laugh. And then, she was laughing too hard to say anything. And then, Jayda hung up.
>>“Don’t worry, I’ll call him back and tell him you’re fine. What we should do is buy a man’s pair of thongs and leave them at his apartment. He’ll go nuts. "
"You bet he would." Gemma smirked, wiping some tears away from the corner of her eye "Let's not do that. He's freaked out enough as he is. Poor guy."

"Nah, most of my errands to run are at the school" she admitted as they paid for the breakfast and left "I have a few students to talk to, stuff like that. Generally, my job is to be the mother of a couple of dozen mutant children. It's harder than it sounds." she added with a grin.

“Oh, he’s a big a boy. Besides, a visit from me without torturing him really is just expected,” she smiled sweetly before she finally started to get up from the table. “But you’re right, I need to portion out his torture.”

She chuckled as she made her way out of the booth, paid their bill, and walked back out into the morning air of New York City. The whole city seemed to be stretched up towards the sky around them and Jayda had to smile at it. It was so much different than Florida, but she could definitely grow to like this place too. She sighed a bit contentedly before she made her way towards her motorcycle along with Gemma by her side.
“Wow, that definitely sounds like a tough job. Mother of one seems hard enough, but mother to a school of mutant children? That takes guts.” She smiled as she clapped Gemma on the shoulder in a friendly way. “Alright, but you need a ride anywhere while I’m in town, call me up. Come on,” she said as she slipped on her helmet and handed Gemma back her spare. “Let’s get you back to your place and I’ll probably see you tonight, okay? I’m sure Jorge is going to want to spend time with the two of us, that way we can be under his supervision.”
She chuckled at this as she climbed onto her bike and waited for Gemma to climb on behind her. A playful smirk played on her lips, through her helmet, as she got looks from a small group of men who passed by. They were obviously eyeing the two women, running gutter-breed thoughts through their tiny brains about two women riding a Harley like this. Jayda, being Jayda, only lifted up her vision, gave a wink to the group of men, and quickly followed that by offering them a rude gesture for staring. This immediately got cat calls and angry shouts in return from them, but Jayda simply snapped back down her visor and glanced at Gemma when she had finally climbed on behind her.
“New York’s fun,” she grinned and revved up her engine once more.
