JORGE CERVANTES aka DETECTIVE CERVANTES (if applicable) "Smooth runs the water where the brook is deep." - Shakespeare HISTORYJorge Cervantes was born and raised in Southern California. He lived a happy and normal life with his sister Jayda and his two parents in the city of Long Beach. He grew up a normal kid, got into small, meaningless trouble, did well in school and had best friends. When he was fifteen, though, his life changed on one hot summer day at the beach. Jorge, at the time, had a girlfriend who started out as his best friend. He and Nichole were inseparable, though they tended to have their arguments, as is the way with young love. But on this particular day, with this particular fight, Jorge watched as she disappeared out into the water to swim and never came back up. That day his ability to manipulate water developed. Through panic and sheer force of will Jorge parted the waters and found his girlfriend on the wet sand. He retrieved her body but she had already passed by that time. Once on shore, Jorge passed out due to the sheer pressure of moving so much water and remained in a coma for a month. Upon awakening, his parents informed him that it was time for them to move. While he was unconscious, he and his family received praises as well as threats. Many people viewed him as a religious miracle, others as a sacrilegious delinquent. So once he was well enough, Jorge and his family fled to Miami, Florida where he spent the next leg of his life. He never practiced his abilities in front of them, though secretly he did develop them. There was no need for them to worry that he began to tap into those powers again. For years this remained a secret and they lived their lives as normally as they could. Jorge went to college, got his degrees in Criminal Justice and Literature from there joined the police academy. It was then that his job became his life. He found his want to help people, especially because he could never help Nichole. After years of working for the Miami police department and having to deal with his secrets, tough decisions, and a solitary life, Jorge finally made the decision that he wanted something new. He wanted to be among more mutant kind, in a place that could really use his help. That was when he requested the transfer to New York City. It was hard to leave his family behind, but it was necessary. Transferred into the new Mutant Related Crimes division, Jorge now starts his life in a new city with a new life. So far he has met many strange characters, made some enemies, but also some close relationships. He now works to the best of his ability for New York and puts his powers to as much use as possible. POWERS Jorge Cervantes the mutant ability of seizing and manipulating water. He cannot create water from his body, but instead he must find a nearby source to manipulate it from and bend it to his will. It does not matter what type of water it is, whether it be salt, fresh, or bottled, but the more diluted the water is with other chemicals, the harder it is for control. He finds these abilities useful to him when he is on the job. Through practice he has learned how to fire extremely fast moving jets of water from water sources, create fast moving shields, as well as globes of water which he can use to quasi-drown his targets into submission. POSTS TO SEE: The Awakening of 'Moses Incarnate' – This solo origin story stars Jorge as a youth, living in Southern California. His story is sad in that during an exceptional hot summer, he is spending time with his then girlfriend Nichole. Best friends all their lives, Jorge and Nichole finally managed to meet at the right time and the right place and fall in love. Their joy is short lived though because on this particular day, after a brief argument, Jorge watches as Nichole gets swept under by a riptide. In a panic…his abilities activate as he tries to save her and actually parts the waters to find her already drowned on the wet, sandy beach. That day he loses his love…but becomes a mutant. If Mittens Claps We All Die – Jorge is called to a scene where a villainous mutant by the name of Mittens has started a hostage situation. The detective is at a lose but receives aid from the X-men which allow him to sneak in. Mittens then starts to threaten more hostages until Jorge, Kealey and Ghost manage to confuse the villain enough for the detective to rescue Andrew, whom Mittens had hung out a window, and arrests the man. So...French Fries Aren't French Food? – Having been out of the dating scene for awhile now, Detective Cervantes manages to meet a nice woman, Gemma Taylor whom he asks out. He then proceeds to take her to a French Bistro, of which the menus are written in French, where they dine, share stories and dance. Next he took her to a hidden away bookstore which housed a one night only perform of the Renaissance League, a group that shares music, poetry and movies with any who can find them. The night ends happily where Jorge managed to find a spark between him and Gemma as he takes her home. A Cop, A Promise, and One Smoking Barrel – After another boxing lesson with Andrew, the detective and the kid run into a gang of thugs. They attempt to rob them, but with some ingenuity, skill and luck they manage to break away and nearly escape. Their luck soon runs out when another thug with a gun chases them down. Jorge attempts to disarm and knock out the man but unfortunately he is gotten the better of and nearly strangled to death. Andrew then steps in and shoots the thug, killing him by accident. Jorge is forced to call in the incident and after some string pulling, he manages to get Andrew off the hook for the night and drive him home, though he knows that won’t be the end of it.
