The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Carrick caught the cookie. That was a shame. Why did he have to have such excellent reflexes and coordination? Elizabeth was slightly envious of the fact. However, she could not allow such emotions to cloud her judgement on the issue. Carrick was the enemy. A fairly attractive one, but still the opposition, nevertheless. Which only made unbiased warfare that much harder.
Although, flashing a thick mass of partially chewed cookie at her was a pretty good way to help her focus on the situation.
Liz just had to look away for a moment. See-food was just so disgusting! Why did Carrick have to be such...such a...a boy! So gross! Revulsion twisted her features as she stubbornly twisted back around to see her target. Confusion wrote itself all over her face as she found herself to be temporarily at a loss as to the angel’s location.
Of course, she found him again once she looked down and heard a garbled mess spew from his mouth. Honestly, she had no clue what he meant, but she was sure it was something like a surrender or whatever. Surely he knew by now that he could not withstand a siege from her, right?
Although hiding under the table was a pretty decent idea. Easily countered, however. That is, if Liz was so inclined to stand up and walk around it. Which she wasn’t. That would end the skirmish much too frequently. There was still much too much time left on the oven for Carrick to be allowed to re-attempt his invasion of it.
Then a cookie bounced off her face. PT!
Well, there was really only one thing left to do about that.
Beat.
“AAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHH!” Was her mock-battle-cry as she shoved the table forward a foot or so and then dove underneath it, trying to grab the poor boy at all costs.
Much to Carrick’s surprise he heard Liz before he saw her diving under the table after him in an attempt to end the trouble she started. Fortunately for Carrick him being on all fours gave him an idea from his gryphon form. Closing his wings around his body Carrick’s tail tucked between his legs and he rolled away from her. A barrel roll or a turn over for a belly rub either way his shifted form had good ideas most of the time so he decided to act on instinct. ”Serpentine!” he cried out as he rolled over once more trying to create distance between him and Liz.
Unfortunately for Carrick he didn’t see where he was rolling or what he was rolling into. A pair of chairs blocked his roll and he stopped short slamming his back into the legs of the chair. It didn’t hurt but that didn’t stop him from letting out a small grunt.
He blinked once and mismatched color eyes stared at Liz as she was coming from him. He was out from under the table but still on his back. Carrick attempted to upright himself using his arms and the wing he was laying on. Hopefully he could get moving before Liz was on top of him.

“Bam!” screamed her knee as it slammed against the hard floor. Elizabeth sucked in a breath and shoved the pain to the side for the moment. She’d suffer in excruciating torment later; right then, she had a job to do.
She landed flat-out on the floor, her hands scrabbling for the bird-boy. But alas, her target was not there! Curse his athletic prowess and inhuman reflexes! Her nose scrunched up and her lips twisted into a slight pout. Rats. And she had lost all of her momentum when she collided with the floor. And Carrick was rolling away while talking about snakes! Mrrrrr!
Liz kicked with her feet in attempts to get herself into a crawling position instead of a laying one. Before she could get her knees underneath her, the tips of her boots slid back out from under, once again introducing her face to the floor. Forget this. Army-crawl it is, then. And that’s what she did in order to get out from under the table.
Once on the other side, in clear sight of her quarry, Liz managed to get up into a crouch. Many feet away, Carrick was collapsed against a set of chairs. Perrrrfect. If she’d’ve been a cat, Liz would’ve been licking her lips right then. She could see his struggle to orient himself and to get in a mobile-capable position. If she was going to get him, it was now or never.
It was seconds but Carrick still hadn’t put it to mind to keep moving, another game of cat and mouse or hawk and mouse but this time it seemed that the roles were reversed. Did that mean he was the mouse? Carrick started to push himself up but even though Liz kept slipping and crawling toward him he was still partially under one of the chairs. Carrick tugged his wing closer to his body and noticed streaks of blonde flying over him.
Weight was starting to add to his own and his arms started to push against the floor in an attempt to keep him self and now Liz up as well. Carrick blinked and was about to mutter a curse only managing to let out ”Codd-“ Carrick’s arms buckled and he fell back down this time with Liz on top of him.
”No more cookies!” Carrick grunted as he was under the assumption that Liz planned to force-feed him. Arms flung to his sides and he tried to push himself up a second time this time with the help of his wings for more power. Once they started to roll Carrick grabbed around Liz’s waist and rolled back in the direction he came.
Another second and he now was on top of her grinning, ”Ha, didn’t expect that did ya?” Carrick started to laugh and was in the motion of standing however him having no idea that they were back under the table. Carrick only managed to hit his head forcing him back down and the typical ‘ow’ that normally would have been heard never managed to exit his lips because they had found their way back down towards Liz’s own.

Hahaha! Elizabeth was missing her calling in life: she shoa professional football become a professional football player! Just look at that tackle! It was beautiful, sheer poetry in motion with the elegance of a ballroom dance. It was practically the love-child of a swan-dive and a hug. And the world seemed to slow down to bullet-time, enabling her to enjoy every single expression that flickered over the featherball’s face.
Now, if her dive was Olympic gold medal-worthy, then her collision was right up there on America’s Funniest Home Videos.
Ouch. Full-body tackles hurt much more than they seemed to in movies.
But Liz had no time to fully ascertain the pains and discomforts accumulated in the crash, for suddenly carrick was moving around again and oh! How’d she end up on the floor with him on top of her? The world just seemed to blur for a moment with activity and suddenly her viewpoint was much different. And no, she certainly hadn’t expected that.
Then Carrick’s head bounced up, hit the table, bounced down....
And they kissed.
It was magic. And slightly jarring. But mostly just absolutely stunning. Elizabeth’s eyes went wide for a moment before closing them. That’s just what you do in those situations, right? It’s not like she had the leverage or room to slap him or anything.

Mismatched eyes were shut for a very short moment, his head hurt and there was something wet pressing against his lips, which was slightly open. ‘Gross’ thought Carrick as he was about to pull away or stick out his tongue to show his revulsion till he was finally aware of what was happening. His eyes opened and he realized he was kissing Liz. Her eyes were shut, was she enjoying this? Did she think he did this on purpose?
Blood started to rush to his face and he closed his moth a little more, ‘first kiss?’ Carrick thought as he closed his eyes slightly allowing him a second to enjoy what was happening. It lasted a second though before he pushed himself up almost hitting his head under the table again. He doubted he could get away with landing on her lips twice, even if he wanted to.
Carrick got out from under the table his feathers ruffling and expanding outwards as more blood flushed to his face. ”This is all arseways…” Carrick mumbled as he looked like he just killed someone rubbing the back of his head which was still pounding. This was his first kiss with a girl? One that he was supposed to remember for the rest of his life?
Carrick reached under the table to help Liz up he was no longer in the playful mood he was a second ago, ”I’m so sorry I didn’t mean… I mean I didn’t want… I mean I wanted to, but I mean… “ his face got more red he wanted to but… but.. he was a loss for words.
Did he like Liz more than a sort of, kind of maybe friend? This was how things always got so complicated, Carrick for the first time in his life was a t a loss for words so he did the only thing he could think of and face planted on the kitchen table. He didn’t hit it hard he just hit it hard enough so words would do what they were supposed to and flow from his mouth.

The smell of fresh-baked cookies was evident in the non-existent space between them. It smelled quite nice. And the taste wasn’t too bad either. It was like--Ohmigoshwhatjusthappened?!
Carrick’s head was suddenly not there anymore and he was scrambling away. The lack of contact was just as shocking as the suddenness of the contact had been. And then the realization of what they’d just done came flooding through her, just as blood did the same in her cheeks, burning such a ruddy shade of red that it seemed that Liz had apples stuck to the side of her face.
We just....kissed! Like, for the first time. And it was definitely Elizabeth’s first kiss as well. Oh my gosh! Did it mean anything? What was going to happen? Did Carrick...like her or something? (Did she like him?) Were they going to start dating? Or was everything going to get really weird between them? Or, or, or--
Liz shook her head. Come on, girl! Snap OUT of it! That...kiss....has you more off-kilter than you think! And she was right. After all, she was talking to herself. That usually meant she was a neutron or so short of an isotope.
And then a hand appeared, offering her some assistance in removing herself from the floor. “Um, thanks,” she said softly, accepting the help as she managed to get to her feet once out from under the table. And then she kind of took a few steps away from Carrick, pushing a few strands of displaced hair back behind her ears. She averted her eyes from the boy and cast her gaze to the ground, uncharacteristically uncertain of herself and what was happening. (What did happen, anyways?)
He tried to speak, but the words didn’t seem to readily come out the way he wanted to. “Um, yeah, me too, but....I mean I didn’t....what I’m trying to say is...” she mumbled and stumbled, her own thoughts just as disjointed. But right then, Carrick, like always, seemed to know just what to do. Really, what better way was there to end a pseudo-conversation than to smack the table with your noggin?
After a moment or so of a really awkward silence (at least to her it was), Liz tentatively asked, “Are you okay?”
Well, on the plus side to all of this, Carrick probably wasn’t thinking about the cake anymore.

There was a small throbbing in his forehead where he hit the table, it was harder than he intended but the winged shifter figured it got the point across rather well. There was a silence then she asked how he was, ”Feel grand.” Carrick said slightly sarcastic out of habit and not to be mean to Liz. Blood was still flowing back from his face except where he smacked his head against the table, that would be red for a bit but at least if there was still any color in his face it would be less noticeable than the red on his forehead. ‘Mission accomplished’ thought Carrick as he lifted his head off the table.
Looking to the woman with the gift of gab he sighed slightly and scratched the back of his head, ”Sorry…” he fixed his gaze trying to meet her eyes then his mismatched eyes trailed down to her lips. They lingered for a second then he thought about the kiss. Blood started to fill his cheeks again. Turning his back towards Liz in hopes she wouldn’t notice the color back in his face Carrick said the first thing that came to his mind, ”Never thought that was how my first kiss was gonna be.” he smiled to himself and the window making sure not to show Liz.
”You alright?” Carrick asked turning back to face her now rubbing his forehead with a look of concern for the girl and his own head instead of the smile he had seconds before when he was facing no one.

He felt okay, seemingly. “That’s good,” Elizabeth said sincerely, mostly as a force of habit, but also because she was actually worried for him. After all, if he’d’ve hurt himself, that would have been most unfortunate. And she would’ve felt guilty as well, since he never would’ve done it if she hadn’t tackled him and practically caused him to....kiss her. That’s right. That’s really what they did. They kissed. And Liz didn’t know how to feel about that little fact.
“Yeah, um, that definitely wasn’t my plan for a first kiss either,” she semi-mumbled. She pushed a non-existent strand of hair behind her ear again, just because she wanted to do something. “Like, I had always thought there’d be fireworks or a band playing.” She attempted a little laugh and smile at the whimsical essence of that old dream. A sudden collision of the lips lacked the romance of her fantasies.
“And don’t worry about it,” she stated meekly, half-lifting a hand to physically shove the idea away. “It was just as much my fault.” Liz tried saying that nonchalantly, as if it was no big deal or it didn’t mean anything. But was it a big deal? Did it mean anything? He had turned away from her while talking. Did that mean that it had been an accident? Just a random chance of fate? Did it mean nothing to him as well? Either way, it was probably better to be safe than sorry, no matter what the increased palpitations of her heart would say.
Carrick finally turned around again and appeared concerned. “Yeah, I’m good. Just a few bumps, but that’s what happens when he tackle a guy on a kitchen floor.” She half-smiled apologetically, even as she turned her own back to him. She picked her way over to the table and scooted it back into place, arranging her chair just so. She grabbed a cookie and took a bite out of it, pretending that everything was normal.
His tail twitched slightly showing his surprised frustration at her comment, ”I’ll be sure to start carrying around firecrackers and bottle rockets next I accidentally bump lips with someone else so they won’t be as disappointed.” Carrick said sarcastically his normal sense of humor poking out from the confusion that was the day. Despite his frustration with her expectations of her dream for a first kiss he understood that not just her but all girls had an ideal scenario for their first kiss. Carrick found himself more disappointed in himself for ruining it for Liz. Did that mean he wanted to make the next one better?
Carrick shook his head and the thoughts from his mind, he didn’t want to start showing things he didn’t fully understand like the mysterious reason blood kept rushing to his face when ever he managed to look to Liz.
She was sitting again with a cookie, just like before. ‘Must have not happened’ Carrick thought to himself as he decided to play the same way grabbing a cookie and walking over to the oven. ”Seed cake huh?” Looking through the class pane Carrick crouched and smiled ”If we took any longer outside you think you could have burned the place down. Not very Crocker of you is it?” Carrick asked turning his head to face her with a toothy grin.
Bite of a cookie Carrick added, ”If you can cook better than you can try to outrun me this might be the best cake I will ever have!” another bite and Carrick walked back to his seat and took a swig of his milk before he sat down.
