>>“Anyway, yeah, after the first few times I got hurt while on duty, I pretty much stopped telling them I guess I felt it was better that they did not know if it were something minor like a cutting or a grazing bullet wound. Last time they saw me hurt on duty, I was in a hospital bed and despite my wishes that the stabbing was nothing, they wanted to notify.... Thanks Gemma. For, you know, not freaking out too much.”
"You're welcome" she smiled "That doesn't mean I was not worried, though." she added as they walked "I just know you're worried enough already. Besides, I had to go through the same thing with my family when I started working with mutant kids. After the first few accidents, I thought it was bettet not to tell my husband what happened. He usually blamed it on the kids." she rolled her eyes. He was like that. Blame it on the muties.
"Still. It's better if you tell me. It's less scary if I hear it from you rather than finding it out from somebody else."

Jorge said nothing as he followed Gemma down the stairs of his apartment building. He had only heard bits and pieces of Gemma’s past. He knew she had kids, she was previously married and that she was awesome with kids. Plus that she had the most terrifying “glare” he’d ever seen before. It did not surprise him what he heard about her ex-husband. It was easy to blame such things on these kids. Unfortunately with little to no guidance for them, injuries were bound to occur. He was sure that Gemma was on the receiving end of many of those. But she still remained strong. He had to respect that.

“Yeah, I promise I won’t keep things like this from you,” he said with a small nod. “To be honest, I don’t want to scare you off, Gemma.” he came to a pause when they reached the bottom of the stairs and turned to look at her. “Lotta people might find it hard to date a cop. Especially one with that deals with mutants so much. I guess, I just didn’t want to push your threshold. But…” he smiled a bit, though the motion make his throat hurt. “I guess you can’t learn without trying.”
He smiled as he leaned in and gave her a small kiss on her cheek once more before he opened the front door to the building for her. It was time that she had her talk with Andrew and he got his throat looked at. Though Jorge hated the idea of possibly ratting out Andrew, he knew that the kid would need advice. There was only so much that the detective could do and most of it he did last night. He called in favors, made promises, everything to trying and minimize the damage from this before it got too big. But mentally, Andrew was going to have to talk to someone with a bit more knowledge.
Gemma would steer him clear. He had every faith in that. So with a sigh and smirk he headed out into the parking lot with Gemma…ready to greet this hell of a day .
