The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The impromptu toast made Andrew chuckle and he raised his drink to Jorge's with amusement on his face. A few moments later Jorge relayed his understanding and then told of what had happened after he woke up. Ugh, that couldn't have been pleasant. At least Andrew had been able to keep people way and avoid any major problems. He finished with a statement about living with your abilities and eventually finding out why you had them. Andrew gave a shrug.
"Eh, you muddle through day to day and then you die. At least that's how I viewed things for a while. My new acquaintances, or friends whatever you wanna call them, have been pretty good about changing my mind on that."
That statement got Andrew thinking about Kealey and how much his day to day life had changed after she dragged him to the mansion. It was something he was beginning to think he'd never be grateful enough for. Before Andrew realized it he'd finished his sandwich while thinking and talking with Jorge. Time flies when you're swapping depressing mutation related stories. Andrew concentrated on his drink after that for a moment or two.
What else was there to say? Tell Jorge the reason he'd decided to come and learn aside from not wanting to get beaten down yet again? That was something he hadn't even told Kealey yet and right now she was as close to a best friend as he had. After all, Kealey's encouragement had been what had spurred the decision. Upside to having an empath for a friend? You couldn't hide anything from them. Downside? You couldn't hide anything from them. Andrew chuckled at himself and waited to see what Jorge would say next.

Jorge
>> "Eh, you muddle through day to day and then you die.”
“Ain’t that the truth?” Jorge muttered with a smirk.
The truth was part of him really did believe that. He had been raised by an extremely religious family and while there were still parts of him that believed in a Higher Power, he also felt like it was not God’s will that guided men. God had given humans freewill, therefore Jorge and only Jorge could decide how his life would turn out. Too many times he watched self-righteous people run around doing atrocities in God’s name, but truthfully, most of those decisions they made themselves. But even though he believed that, it still did not mean that things did not have a purpose.
He sighed as he looked down and realized that most of his sandwich was gone as well, only maybe two bites left. Time certainly did fly by. He did not know he had completed that much of his food, but by the full feeling in his stomach, he knew that he had. He took the last bites and wiped his lips from any crumbs before he sat back in his chair and absentmindedly sipped from his bottle of water.
As he did, a thought crept into his head as he glanced back over at Andrew. He gnawed on his bottom lip for a second before he set his bottle down once more.
“You mind answering a question for me?” he asked quietly as he leaned forward on the table a bit and whispered to Andrew. “I know I saved your life, but…you don’t know me. Is there a particular reason why you wanted to learn to fight today? Judging from your accent, you’re not from around here. You running away from something?”
It was merely an observation. He was not trying to put Andrew on the defense or make him feel like he was in trouble or something. Jorge was merely curious.

Jorge's question wasn't surprising. Andrew would have questioned him too had he been in Jorge's position. Andrew stared at his drink for a moment before answering.
"Nothing like that. You know those two X-Men who were at the scene during the whole Mittens thing?"
Andrew paused so Jorge could answer one way or another.
"I knew the blonde one before that whole thing went down. She dragged me to the Mansion after a chance meeting. When Mittens did what he did I didn't know about the X-Men."
He glanced outside to the people walking the street through the nearest window.
"She told me about them the day after that as well as...making me see some sense regarding a few things. I'm tired of not being able to do anything when stuff like Mittens happens. I'd like to help out in some way. Not to mention being able to send thugs packing when they take issue with my face would be great."
Andrew didn't tell him he was hoping to eventually join the X-Men. It could be inferred from his statements but he didn't outwardly say it. That was something he didn't want to admit. At least not yet. Not until he was stronger.

>> "Nothing like that. You know those two X-Men who were at the scene during the whole Mittens thing?"
“Yeah, I remember them pretty well. Both were a huge help back there.”
At first he did not connect the dots. That day so many things had happened so fast that he did not really pay attention, but now that he thought about it, after he thanked that ghostly woman, he had to admit, both her and the blonde seemed to give off the impression that they knew Andrew. He knew that they were X-Men, but what he did not know was that Andrew apparently knew a couple of them. What a small world it had to be and yet that information still slipped past him.
>> "She told me about them the day after that as well as...making me see some sense regarding a few things. I'm tired of not being able to do anything when stuff like Mittens happens. The detective had to grin as Andrew related had happened. He understood in a way. Sometimes when you’re beaten down enough, you simply just cannot take anymore. You want to stand up and do something about it and not simply be a victim anymore. It made sense to Jorge now, so in a way, he was definitely glad to be teaching the kid how to fight. It was obvious that he needed it, if not just to work out, then to at least banish some of those demons that haunt around the back of a person’s mind.
He finally nodded as Andrew finished.
“I get that. We all want to make a difference in the world. Sometimes, you just get fed up of the bad things happening either to you or someone else and you need something, anything to say that you’ve made your difference,” he said with a nod. “That’s actually why I joined the force. May not be much, I tend to feel like I’m stemming the tide a bit here and there. Uh, pun unintended,” he said with a small laugh. He then stopped for a moment as he looked at Andrew closely. "Maybe you should consider the Academy."

Andrew? In police academy? That idea was just odd to him. True, some of the things taught would probably come in handy. However Andrew just couldn't see himself as a policeman. Not only that but he didn't really think he had time for it. Between college and the job for Sam he didn't think he'd have much time left over. Not with the way he liked to study anyway.
"No offense Jorge but I had something else in mind. Though I guess some of the training might come in handy."
There was no reason Andrew couldn't be an X-Man right? Of course the moment he supplied that query to his brain it supplied a reason. His mutation. He'd never be as good in combat as other people were because his mutation gave him no benefits that could be turned to combat. That wouldn't be a problem if he was like Kealey and had a mutation that could be used for support. Her empathy had worked very well for crowd control at the Mitten's scene. However he didn't have that either. Andrew saw no reason why he'd ever be let into the X-Men.
Being a police officer was well within the realm of possibilities for him. Andrew felt he could probably manage whatever they threw at him to become a cop. Yet it didn't seem right. The occupation just didn't suit him. He'd settle for being marginally useful on the sidelines. If that led somewhere then that was good. If not then at least he would be doing what he could.

>> "No offense Jorge but I had something else in mind. Though I guess some of the training might come in handy."
Jorge had to nod at what Andrew had said. He saw the conflict in the kid’s eyes and realized that it was something he really did not feel right doing. The detective couldn’t blame him. Life in the academy was hard and could be brutal. Not that he didn’t think Andrew could handle it, he was sure that he could. In the end, it all came down to how much you were willing to sacrifice. Jorge sacrificed a lot to get where he was and all that really amounted to were several failed relationships, no social life, and his life constantly in danger.
Still though…he loved his work.
“No offense taken, Andrew. Just throwing an option out there,” he said with a warm smile. “But, if you want some skill training, I can definitely teach you what I legally can. The boxing is a good start and if there is anything else you’re interested in, I’ll do what I can.”
He thought at the concept and had to smirk just a little. Andrew was a twenty something college kid which a smart future and here Jorge was, teaching him how to make his fists bloody. After first Jorge felt a little bad about it, but Andrew needed to learn. He wasn’t corrupting him, he was giving him another life lesson that would turn out to be necessary, especially in a city like this. But as he regarded the kid, he had to wonder…mutants have abilities that grow all the time. Right now Andrew’s ability seemed like a complete and utter curse…but what could that evolve into? He was curious but part of him didn’t want to find out either.
“Don’t worry kid, these friends you’ve described sound like the good guys. Stick with them, and I’m sure they’ll teach you a lot.” He said with a nod as he took another long sip of his water, finishing off the bottle. “And, as I said, I’ll help you anyway I can as well.”
He meant every word and he hoped that Andrew would not forget that.
"Besides...you clocked me pretty good back there," he smirked. "I deserve the right to repay you in kind."

Andrew gave the older man a smile.
"Being a cop just isn't for me I'm afraid. I'll find other ways. Ways that don't involve me going to jail for being a vigilante."
Once again he smirked even though the thought of going to jail made him a little jittery. Jorge was being a real pal about this.
"Thanks Jorge." a moment's silence stretched on while Andrew made a decision and then dropped his voice to not be overheard, "I'm hoping to join up with the X-Men someday. I mean I'm nowhere near useful enough to do anything for them right now but I can learn."
That was really all it was, a hope. A silly dream but Jorge was an alright guy so he didn't mind sharing.
"Those friends I mentioned? One of them is the blonde from the scene with Mittens."
Andrew didn't mention Kealey's name mostly because he wasn't sure she wanted it known. It probably wouldn't have been a problem but Andrew had lived by better safe than sorry until he'd thrown that out the window about a month or two ago. Jorge reserved the right to hit Andrew back for that punch to the chin and Andrew gave a laugh.
"It can't have been that hard. You sure you aren't going soft, old man?"
Andrew didn't even need to smirk. All the sarcasm of that final phrase was carried on his voice.

>> "I'm hoping to join up with the X-Men someday. I mean I'm nowhere near useful enough to do anything for them right now but I can learn."
The stunned silence that rose up between them could not be shooed away and instead they were forced to simply sit there with a small bit of awkwardness between them. He tried to imagine Andrew as a member of the X-men, those he’s heard about before and the couple that he has met recently. Though it seemed almost like a silly concept, Jorge knew better than to foster such thoughts. Sometimes the most unlikely of people can have the biggest influence on lives. And even though it did seem extremely unlikely that such a thing would ever happen for the kid, he had to admit that he could almost see it.
Some training in fighting, stamina, speed and he could be a force to be reckoned with. And maybe right now his mutation was not of that much use to him, but who knows how it could develop in the future. The thought was indeed an odd one. Many times Jorge himself feared how his abilities could evolve, if they ever decided to. What would that entail?
He finally just smirked as he nodded his head in an impressive way towards Andrew.
“That’s a lofty goal,” he said in a matter of fact way. But instead of waving it off as a joke or something, he actually took the kid’s thought seriously. “You got the spirit kid, and you care. Most of all I think these X-men will value that above anything else. Keep at it, and I’m sure they’ll snap you up.”
He meant what he said. He could see Andrew’s potential and hoped the kid saw it too.
>> "It can't have been that hard. You sure you aren't going soft, old man?"
“Oh yeah?” Jorge asked with mock shock and anger. His eyebrow arched and a small smirk played on the corner of his lips. He absent mindedly crumpled up a napkin on the table and tossed it across the table, hitting Andrew on the forehead. “I may be Methuselah in your eyes, but I couldn’t dodged that.” He chuckled as he stood up from the table and checked his watch. “Well Andrew, it’s been fun. Unfortunately I do have to go, cop and old man things to do.”
He smirked as he grabbed his trash and tossed them into the nearest trashcan. With that, he wandered back over to Andrew and placed the strap of his dufflebag once more across his shoulder.
“Listen Andrew, you got a lot of fire. But you gotta keep up the training okay? Call me again and we can set up a schedule, if you still want to learn that is.” he offered his hand to Andrew to shake. “Nice to meet you Andrew. Take care of yourself out there.”

Yeah, Andrew knew it sounded ridiculous. He was wondering why he'd said it. Words couldn't be taken back though. Eventually Jorge commented on it. So he had spirit huh? Andrew chalked that up as another positive statement about himself he didn't believe.
"It's ridiculous and won't ever happen. Stupid really. Can't help but try though."
After that comment Jorge stood up and excused himself. It was probably a good idea that Andrew get going to. There were other things to be done today and none of them were getting done with him sitting here chatting away. When Jorge offered his hand to shake Andrew took it.
"Yeah, not like I'm gonna quit after just one session. I'll give ya a call some time."
Andrew stood up from the table and threw his own trash away. There were books back at the Mansion that needed studying.
"See ya next time Jorge. Don't get yourself killed out there."
With that Andrew headed out the door and off toward the bus stop to head back to the Mansion. Over all it had been a good day, even if Andrew was going to be sore tomorrow.
