The night was dark and stormy, but even so Rachel couldn’t help but stare at Meld’s tail as it moved back and forth in front of her. It was odd seeing a tail on someone else, the fact that it had a red eye was intriguing enough, but just how dangerous it looked and the constant stares at alleyways. Everything about it just yelled out to touch it, Rachel kept her curiosity at bay though and listened as Meld began to speak. She kept her focus on Meld’s chilly voice as the three walked to the sound of heavy pattering. The rain was heavy, but it was starting to let up, and Rachel could hear the sound of her dark tone as Meld unveiled some of her heavy history.
The words were few, and it wasn’t much in detail, but then again, who would want to recall such a horrid childhood. The way Meld spoke to Rachel, it seemed as if she and Aura had both gone through unfortunate upbringings. Guilt ate away at Rachel, as she had no such history, nothing close to their woeful tales. She had lived a boring, but good life, one without hardships as a child, no sibling or parent of hers had ever died or neglected her, and she had gone through school as any other normal child, it was only since a couple years ago that things had changed, but even then she was a young lady living on her own.
She could hardly relate as to what it’d be like for children to have gone through what she’d suffered, and kept her imagination at bay. Rachel had never really suffered any issues with family or friends, she had always kept herself distant; she’d always been alone. Maybe she didn’t feel the same pain as Meld, because no one had been there to ostracize her, she just went through life as it happened. As Meld mentioned having a family a spark went off in Rachel’s heart. Maybe she could have the family she had never developed, never communicated with, never really loved. It would certainly be a change, but one she would have to push herself to make.
Rachel didn’t take note to keep watch and more so preoccupied herself with her thoughts and Meld’s words, at least until the realization came to her with Aura’s words. There was a sense of danger previously, but she didn’t think too much of it, the constant watchful eye of Meld’s, and the general feel of precaution, things shifted as Rachel returned her focus to the world around her. It was often a short amount time for Rachel to change her focus, which was for the most part a negative, but maybe not so much in the situation they were in. Aura continued to speak, but Rachel guessed that going back to the more sociable topic of family and comfort was to possibly keep a continuous conversation without breaking it.
With the reality of the danger around them Rachel kept her senses alert, the only sense that was really ready though were her ears, making sure to listen carefully to the sounds other than the dropping of rain. Rachel was used to the change from pondering to alert, on several occasions requiring quick change such as when people entered the sewers while she was in the middle of reading a novel. This situation was different though, although the same response was triggered, the concept of being hunted placed a sort of fear in her, one she wasn’t entirely familiar with, it was different from accidental discovery and the chase to prevent panic, and she wasn’t entirely sure how to cope with it beyond being on high alert. It wasn’t till she too heard the cocking of a gun from above that she impulsively jumped forward toward Meld’s position. Immediately after a bullet whizzed past the location where Rachel had been in, but in her action of jumping forward it looked similar to a lunge or assault toward Meld. The question now was on how Meld would react.
