The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Raven wasn't too sure about the statement what was meant when it was stated that she would probably stick around for a long time. It was nice that the two of them had confidence and actually wanted her to stick around, but neither of them really understood what it was like, staying in one place all the time. She was different than the humans around her, she thought different and acted different. Often humans confused her and she knew she was just as confusing as them. She coudln't help it, really, and that's what caused her so many problems. That's why she inevitably had to leave wherever she settled. Maybe The Mansion would be different, but she doubted it.
"Everyone here is really nice," Raven stated, her voice just a touch disbelieving. She hadn't really believed it at first, but she'd been there weeks now and so far not one person had tried to chase her or yell at her or do anything else that civilized people really shouldn't do to one another. It would probably change in time when she did something against one of the social mores of the place, but she'd deal with that when it happened.
"We can start heading over to see what rooms are available," Fade smiled, beginning the walk to the Mansion. She looked behind her to make sure Raven was coming as well by smiling and continuing to talk to her. "Well most mutants here have been through a lot outside of these walls. When I was younger, I didn't think this place would be able to handle me but it definitely made quite a mark on me. Now I can't even imagine living anywhere else and I don't get why I didn't come here when I was even younger," she smiled, understanding the feeling of not belonging.
If the police records and wanted for theft flyers did not warn the Mansion about her, it was her mutation and how good she was at sneaking up on people and leaving with a little token. Somehow, the Mansion put up with her and she survived. With the help of Tricity, Daria, Castiel and Raph, she made the place her home. It seemed a little ironic that now she was one of those who did her best to make the Mansion feel like home to anyone who did not feel like they belonged anywhere. The main point to get across was that the Mansion was not just anywhere, once it grew on you, the memory follows you everywhere. "Everyone here appreciates quickly that even outcasts are never alone," she smiled, looking back at Raven again.

Somehow telling Raven that she was more than welcome here and could make the institute her home had ruffled her feathers. Michael didn’t say anything but thought it a little odd. Maybe her past had been rough on her. He knew that compared to most of the people here he had had it much easier than most. His parents had accepted him and his mutation wasn’t too difficult to hide. While his parents had sent him here to protect him they hadn’t forced him. He had been given the impression that had he chosen to stay they would have let him.
Michael merely nodded and followed Fade towards the mansion itself. Privately he hoped that he would be able to get his old room back but he knew that was unlikely. He was a kid when he’d been here last. Now he was an adult. A young adult, but an adult none the less. Most likely he’d be given a different room with the older residents rather than the students. Having changed where he’d been living every few months for the last two years as he travelled he would cope with a room change at the mansion.

When compared to many mutants Raven knew that she had it pretty easy growing up. Aside from living in a single parent household, her childhood was actually pretty normal. Well, her early childhood at any rate, once she met Blackwing things took a rather odd turn. Even after her mutation developed, however, she still maintained a relatively close relationship with her mother. Sure it changed, but her mother was one of the most wonderful and understanding women anyone could possibly want. It was her mind that was the real problem and the fact that it didn't work the way a normal human mind did. She was stuck between having the mind of a bird and having the mind of a human and that's what caused her problems, again and again. It was impossible for her to blend into the human world, impossible for her to function in it on a long term basis.
Raven followed behind the two individuals, not really sure what else to do. They seemed interesting enough, thus it seemed worth while to continue following. If they didn't want her there then they'd say something. Whether or not she'd actually listen to them, well, that was another story that was entirely dependent on both how she was feeling at the time and whether or not they remained interesting.
