The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

So far everything was going beautifully. Raven, judging by the expressions playing across Gawain's face, had been right on the money. Of course, past and present were the easy parts, it was when the future got involved that things became a little more complicated. Still, she was a professional for a reason.
"The next rune," Raven indicated the rune on the top of the spread, "indicates what help you can expect to receive. This rune is Othala or ancestral property. It advices you that the help you seek is close to home. In the past you've been alone in your quest, but you no longer need to be. Seek help and you might be surprised to note that help will actually be there."
Raven knew that the future was the rune that most people were the most interested in, but every good fortune teller knew that it was best to leave the most prized bit of knowledge to last. It was all about building up to the grand finale.
Gawain arched an eyebrow. The fortuneteller actually had a point there. Who would've thought. She was right. He was on a team called the X-men, dealing with mutant-related problems on a daily basis. All he needed to do was ask, and they would figure something out in no time. They would help. he had friends now; heck, he had family.
He wondered why on earth he hadn't asked yet. He filed the question for later, and nodded again. She was doing a good job, leaving the future last. He was actually getting curious.

Raven was rather pleased with the reactions she was getting, although she was careful not to show too much emotion. It was all part of the image she projected, that of the enigmatic fortune teller. Not every reading went this well, although she was proud to say that more went well than not well. With a soft smile she continued with the fourth rune.
Indicating the rune at the bottom of the spread, Raven spoke once again. "This rune indicates those things that cannot be changed. They are the part of the situation that you must work around because they exist independent of your desire for them to exist. The rune you see before you is Nauthiz or need." The rune was shaped much like a lower case "t" in which the line crossing was diagonal instead of straight. "It indicates the fact that you will not find your mother immediately. As in the past, there will be delays and while it does not indicate how long those delays are going to be, it does give word that patience is what's needed."
There was only one rune left, that the finale of the reading. Raven felt herself anticipating that final bit of knowledge she was about to give, always her favourite part of a reading. Humans might be baffling creatures, but they were still fun to watch, especially when you gave them unexpected news.

Gawain bit his lips before he nodded again. Tension was building up as it should, in any good show, like fortunetelling. The raven lady had long before proved that she was a pro; she didn't only explain the runes, she walso guessed at the situation quite well, and tied the two together. She still hadn't said anything that couldn't have been guessed; but somehow just hearing those things said out loud made Gawain realize them.
The search was far from over. Maybe it never will be. There was already delay because of everything that had happened to him since he'd arrived in New York - he stopped wandering and looking for her, and started a life here instead. But he was still searching. Maybe in different ways, but he still was.

It was not time for the grand finale of the reading, the future rune. As Raven knew, this was the part that could make or break a reading. Everything else was just filler, something to build up to the final rune of the reading. This was the one that all her clients were interesting in, this was the reason they paid her what they did. She could see by the expression on Gawain's face that he was no different than any other of her clients in this instance.
Raven pointed to the final rune on the far right. "This rune indicates what the future has in store for you. This rune is Ansuz or Odin and it is very good in this position." She paused for dramatic effect, studying Gawain's expression before continuing. "This rune counsels you to keep your eyes and ears open. There will be a message in your near future that will lead you to discovering more about your lost mother. The message will come from an unexpected place and you need to be ready for it. When it comes, you must follow it and in so following will learn that which you desire to know."
Finishing up with the final rune, Raven looked at Gawain waiting for his reaction. This was her favourite part of all (other than receiving her payment of course), seeing how her patrons would react to her words. Even if she wasn't a real fortune teller who could actually see the future, sometimes her words gave just enough insight to actual make real changes in people's lives. So what if they were little more than mundane observations and educated guesses, did that really matter if they did some good in the end?

"Odin." Gawain smirked at the raven girl "Gotta love the old man."
Even though the young knight was partial to Arthurian legends, even he would wander into Norse mythology for some badass stories every once in a while. Odin, he could work with. Especially if he meant good news.
The readong was done. It had been positive, all things considered, and the sorceress did an excellent job too, even if she couldn't really see the future. Gawain nodded again.
"All right. I will remember what you told me. Thank you, lady, for answering my question." he shook his head to clear the thoughts about past and future out of his mind, and grinned at her. "And now, I believe, is time for your payment."
He waited for her to collect the runes, then he stood, dusting himself off. He would wait for her, and then they'd go to the woods, in search of a magpie's nest.
