The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

When Amber said that Tarin's power sounded kind of frightening, Lee nodded. She hadn't even gone into any sort of detail, and the girl thought it was scary. Imagine what she would think if Lee really explained it.
"At times it is," Lee replied after a few moments. "And it was really disconcerting at first seeing his eyes change. But it can be useful, too."
Then she said that she had met other mutants that had different eyes and asked if that was common. "You know, I really haven't thought of it," she replied. "I know there's a lot of mutants whose eyes are perfectly normal. Though," Lee's voice slowed slightly as she thought. "I have met a lot of mutants that do have different eyes, or whose eyes change somehow when their powers work."
"I b-bet they have wonderful s-stories." Amber had always enjoyed history, although she admittedly preferred history of the pre-human variety. However, even humans had their fascinating stories and artifacts.
"Your eyes are n-normal though," Amber observed. "They're rather p-pretty." Sometimes she still wished her eyes looked like they had before, but those times were getting fewer. Her family had told her that she should be proud of being a mutant and that her eyes were what told humans that she was more advanced and better than they were. She had been told that her eyes were something to be proud of, a display for the world to see exactly what she was and that some mutants were even envious of those like her who stood out.
"D-do you like looking human? N-no one would even know you w-were a m-mutant if you didn't t-tell them." It was still something Amber was struggling with. Sometimes she wanted so much just to look like everyone else, but then she thought of what Abyss and Aura had told her and realized that she really shouldn't want that. Abyss looked so much more unusual than she did and he was proud of every bit of red flesh he possessed.
Lee simply shook her head when Amber said that she thought the spirits' stories were wonderful. "I have yet to hear one that is even slightly good,"she said. "Most of them, my husband won't even tell me they're that bad. I mean, there's probably plenty of great stories, but most of those people probably don't stick around to become spirits."
Lee wasn't sure, but she thought that the girl she was walking with was stammering slightly less now than when they had first started talking. She could only imagine that that meant Amber was feeling much more comfortable.
But did she like looking 'human'? "I've never actually thought about it before," Lee admitted after taking a slow sip of her coffee. "Though, yeah, I am rather glad. It at least gave me some time before people realized what I could do. I mean, things are better now, I've got better control, but even without them being able to see, people used to be able to tell what I was after being around me for a few hours."
It appeared as if Amber really needed to learn more about spirits. Then again, based on what Lee had said, she wasn't sure she wanted to learn any more about spirits. "I th-think I'll stick with dinosaurs." She grinned up at the older woman, starting to feel more comfortable in her presence.
"Abyss t-told me that some m-mutants wanted to stand out because they were proud of being m-mutants. He said that s-standing out was a mark of w-what we were and should be proud of it." Amber still didn't really understand the motivation behind thos particular words. Of course she was proud of being a mutant, who wouldn't be? But sometimes she also wished she could simply be like everyone else and not having to worry about being a freak.
"H-how did people know you were different?" Sensing energy didn't realy seem like something that others would pick up on.
That was good. The girl had decided that she didn't want to learn more about the spirits that Tarin saw. Very good. Though, Lee mused slightly after the fact, she probably wouldn't have told the entire whole story, anyway.
But apparently someone named Abyss had told her about some mutants being proud about standing out. Lee wondered if she knew Abyss. The name wasn't coming to mind at the moment, but then again Lee had met a lot of different mutants, a number of them in rather stressful and distracted situations. And quite a few of them were very visibly mutants, like Sebastian, even if Lee didn't notice it most of the time any more.
"Being content with your powers is important," Lee said. Not quite what Amber had said, but it was important. "And there is a lot more to you, a lot more for people to either like or dislike, than your powers. Just remember that, it took me a long time to learn that." Yeah, definitely a long time, and only because of Tarin's prodding.
And then Amber asked how people knew that she was a mutant, since there was no physical sign. "I feel the energy I siphon from people," Lee explained. "I didn't used to have as much control over how much as I do now, and if people were around me for too long, or if we touched, it didn't normally take too long for them to start realizing what was going on."
The older woman more or less agreed with Amber's words, which was good. Maybe she didn't think quite the same way, choosing to use content instead of proud, but the general idea was there at least.
"Oh, I know th-there's more than just my p-powers," Amber agreed. That should be obvious, shouldn't it? "B-but that's the thing that most seem to s-see first. Well, m-maybe not the powers so much as the eyes." Although if asked, she would probably say that her powers were one of her favourite things about herself. Those and her ability to play her violin.
"C-can you use the energy you siphon?" Amber asked. She couldn't help but be curious about the powers of others, even if that particular one was mildly disturbing. Or at least would be if Lee still didn't have control over it. She claimed she did and Amber saw no reason to distrust her.
At least Amber knew that there was more to herself than simply her powers. That was something that Lee herself had forgotten for a time when she was younger.
And then Amber asked if Lee was able to use the energy she siphoned. Lee nodded. "As long as I have enough energy," Lee replied. "Though, it can suck in the mornings if my husband isn't around."
