.Garrett was finding that courage was something learned, It wasn't some kind of magical mojo that appeared out of nowhere in the nick of time. No one was born brave. It took doses of fear to build up an immunity to it. Courage was fear's antivenom. Garrett turned to face Maya, looking directly into those warm eyes. " You no more abandoned me than you left me. Meaning, you did neither. I have always been responsible for everything in my life, Maya. It's just getting around time to start fessing up." He could spend the rest of the day explaining himself for the trespasses against her. No reason to flog a dead horse.
Why was she one of his closest friends? She could always be relied on. It was a stark contrast from being reliable. Whatever the case or the circumstances, even with the many wrongs he had done her, she was always willing to be there for him as a friend. If there was a more factual definition, Garrett was all ears. His trademark grin in place, he continued. " Well, I'm not sure yet. So far, I study all of the codes and laws of the city, the city's history, procedures. All sorts of bureaucracy. I seem to have a penchant for it."
