The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

He smiled and nodded at the sentiment of butter's place in the scheme of things. When he listened to Andrea explain her mother's way of cooking, it occurred to Garrett that Andrea had a slight accent. Maybe it was his recent dealings with women of foreign persuasion that gave him a bit of an edge on the topic. "Are you foreign, Andrea? Gordon didn't jump out at me as a foreign name, but as we talk, I swear I can hear the echo of an accent. We've had an influx of nationals lately and it just made me curious."He watched her expert hands work on the skillet's contents, wondering if cooking was a genetic trait. It smelled delicious either way.
She continued to work her culinary magic when she offered a question to him. A poignant and direct one at that. If only the answer were easy. "Well, it's more that I am trying to find an equal potential for my gifts rather than just paralyzing people and wracking them with pain and seizures. I spent plenty of time in the past perfecting that aspect, but realized that I must master both the light and dark side of myself in order to attain a feeling of wholeness. Hope that doesn't sound too spacy." Spacy would be I am a time traveler, studying to retain my former doctor's degree that I used in Antarctica nine years from now.
Garrett listened to her next question and it seemed right up his alley. He was also pleased to hear the food was done, as he was salivating over the finished product. Waiting for her to give him all of the needed items for eating, he smiled at her. " What an excellent job. You are very hospitable. I'll get a drink for myself. You make yourself something, try to quiet that monster in your tummy." He passed her and opened the refrigerator, soon pouring himself a cold glass of skim milk to go with the eggs. As he returned, he sat the glass down and began to eat the meal. " Mmm, delicious. I could definitely turn optic nerves off. Do you think it would help? Once we eat, I'd be happy to attempt to relieve your pain as well. But let's eat for now."
An Accent. Her accent. Her nose resumed its customary wrinkles position. "I am from Rhodes... Greece." She paused, before continuing. "My father was American, so when my mother married him she adopted his last name." Her eyes locked onto him for a moment, wary but curious, before she swept them away again. It's not like he was going to ask her for her papers or anything, so... no reason to be so touchy on the subject. Instead she turned to the explanation he offered... one that was both enlightening and...kind of scary at the same time. 'paralyzing people and wracking them with pain and seizures' ...yeah, that was what mostly caught her attention. Once again she was happy that her glasses prevented most of the wide eyed look she sent him from being seen- and had to fight back the slight urge to scoot away from him a little. Then again, who was she to judge? Without the protection of her glasses and gloves, she wouldn't be able to touch or look at hardly anything.
Andrea relaxed a little again, and nodded when he told her he'd get his own drink. She stood and resumed cooking to make up her own plate of eggs. While she was cracking and draining them into the the skillet, she thought over his offer some more. The pain relief was a definite, head headaches only seemed to be getting worse with time, so she was willing to jump on the chance to alleviate them. The eye thing though... she was still unsure of. No eyesight; would that mean no power as well? She didn't honestly know. In a way, she supposed it would come down to how desperate she was to be even slightly normal, or at least a little less dangerous.
The Greek plopped her handful of onions and a pinch of paprika into the pan and folded everything together a few times. "I do not know about helping the headaches... but, honestly that is not what I had in mind..." Another swift turn of her eggs and she was satisfied. She turned the stove top off and shoveled her massive portion onto her own plate. After putting everything away, dropping the pan and spatula in the sink, and grabbing herself a fork and napkin she reclaimed her seat and started in on her eggs. "Is it a strange question that I asked?... About turning off ones own vision?"
Greece. Well, that explained a few things, for sure. Most assuredly her cooking, which was excellent. The plate didn't have time to cool as Garrett greedily cleaned it. Sipping at the skim milk to wash it down and dabbing his mouth with a napkin, he listened on. " Absolutely delicious.""I do not know about helping the headaches... but, honestly that is not what I had in mind." Garrett thought about the little knobby fibrous growths on her head. maybe they were causing the headaches? He picked up his plate and glass and walked them to the sink as she sat down with her own.
"Is it a strange question that I asked?... About turning off ones own vision" Garrett rinsed his plate and glass out and opened the dishwasher, putting them in their respective slots. " Not at all. I imagine it would be nice to take those glasses off once in a while." He slid the tray back in and closed the door of the appliance, turning back to her, examining her hair and her green shoulders. No time like the present. It was really the most important time of all times. He walked within maybe a foot of her and stood behind her, though he decided to stand slightly to the side, so that he wouldn't completely freak her out.
" I can do that right now, if you like. Or at least turn those headaches down."
Compliments were nice, especially when they came in multiples and were entirely unneeded. She smiled all the same and mumbled a thank you between mouthfuls of egg. He received a nod in response to the glasses comment. She did find them annoying sometimes, but normally only because if they failed her she was left with either closing her eyes and walking about blindly, or wearing whatever was around. Like swim goggles. Though, she had become rather used to the glasses by now. They were like a part of her. She turned as he approached, with a mouth full still, and gulped quickly so she could speak.
"Right now?" She mused, poking at her plate with her fork. She supposed her hunger could wait for a bit, or she could try to eat for once without seeing... hopefully she wouldn't poke an eye out or anything. "Right now would be great... I must admit that I am rather excited to see if it will work..." She smiled again, and set her fork down, turning in her chair to face him fully.
"Do I need to move anywhere or do anything?" Her head tilted naturally, and she brought her knees to her chest and wrapped her arms around them to contain her excitement. Depending on what would happen, there was as good chance she would never want to revert back. Life without sight was much better in her mind than what she was currently stuck with... maybe.
Andrea seemed pleasantly surprised at the notion of losing her sight. Garrett attempted to linger so she could eat, but he was anticipating the end result just as much. While he wouldn't try to affect the nodules he had seen in her head, Garrett was very interested in seeing more of her from the inside out. Standing, he stood behind her, placing his hands on her bare shoulders. The connection began immediately, writing over her thin frame, though his focus was on her head. The brain and the other organs of the head always took the longest, considering the volume of neural messages flying about.
" Now, just relax and continue to look ahead. Why don't you take your glasses off so we can ensure that all darkness is from an internal source?" His fingers worked against her muscles, kneading them slightly. This served a dual purpose. It generally helped to relax the patient, but it also increased the amount of neural information being exchanged at the point of contact. The lights were terribly bright inside her head. so much going on. The tendrils of red energy signifying the pain she was experiencing seemed to come from the back of her eyes and..her scalp. Something was definitely going on with her. Maybe not yet, but soon. Either way, Garrett stimulated the nerves in question, soothing them to forget the pain they were transmitting. " Pain should be subsiding now. I'm going to effectively turn the lights out on you now. Tell me if anything strange seems to occur."
With that warning uttered, Garrett's focus crystallized on Andrea's optic nerves. Just like he had remembered doing to poor Neena, he switched her eyes off like al ight switch, cutting off any visual information they were receiving. The lights in her head dimmed a good deal, allowing Garrett more room to observe. " How's that?"
The initial skin to skin contact sent a chill up her spine, but she got over it quickly. It wasn't until he started rubbing her shoulders that she tensed up. Yes, massages and such were normally used to get someone to relax- she wasn't the average someone though... Just shaking hands was too much for her sometimes... but, she wasn't about to admit how uncomfortable it made her. Instead, she reached up and took her glasses off, setting them on the table beside her plate... and that was about the time she started to feel an odd sensation creeping over her shoulders and up her neck.
Like butterfly legs, a light tickling. She kept her eyes fixated on her plate- not wanting any accidents, but couldn't stop the light giggles that left her lips. Andrea felt a release from the throbbing pain, even before his words fully reached her, and a content sigh escaped her in between giggles. She relaxed as much as possible while being tickled, and tried her best not to twitch. "Does it always feel so... tingly?" She asked, grinning despite herself. She would choose whatever he had just done over a massage any day.... "It feels wonderful..."
She nodded her head slightly at his warning, thoroughly enjoying her moment free of pain and prepared herself for the darkness she expected. It was, in fact , like a light going off. She was surprised by the darkness, even with her minimal preparation. She quieted for a moment, unsure of what really think or do. "I feel the same, still tickley though..." She stared out in front of her, not really knowing where the things that had been there were. "How do we know that it worked though?..." She asked quietly, not realizing that she was staring blankly at the wall across from her.
Giggles. Garrett smiled and chuckled along with Andrea, as that was possibly the only sound he hadn't heard when applying his gifts to someone. He heard her sigh as the pain retreated, his hands softening their kneading of her shoulders, her skin warm beneath his touch."Does it always feel so... tingly? It feels wonderful..." Garrett smiled and did his best not to let the spirit of the moment take him away. It wouldn't be difficult, considering Andrea's exotic beauty. " Well, usually it isn't pleasant at all, but I am not so practiced in using it for stress releif or pleasure. more their opposites. Anytime you'd like me to touch you for long periods, I'm pretty easy to find."
"I feel the same, still tickley though... She was still now, apparently trying to look through the darkness, a thing that Garrett often encountered when he turned his own vision off."How do we know that it worked though?..." How indeed? While he was only seventy five percent sure that he was correct, he knew that her stare wasn't fatal. Only paralytic, which wasn't all that scary. Stepping around to the front, he leaned down and without hesitation looked into her eyes. " They are orange. Amazing. They really make you look more lovely. Shame you have to hide them. I guess it works, though."
Returning to her side, he took her by the crook of the elbow to ensure she didn't wobble off of the seat at the kitchen island. " Would you like to walk a bit?"
She felt her cheeks heat up lightly. The idea of going to see someone merely to be touched... it was, far beyond something she could manage. Very tempting though, on the other hand. While she didn't know what cause the headaches, or the hunger, she now knew that he had the power to make it go away. He was like a nice shiny red apple, set in front of a starving beast. Blinking, Andrea pondered for a few moments at her own thoughts, then shook them away. He had moved, around somewhere to her side, she turned her eyes his way, unknowingly staring somewhere off over his shoulder, and smiled a little. Her blush darkened more and she scratched at a cheek sheepishly. "You are one of the few that has ever seen them like this. Before my mutation fully set in, my parents were the only ones..."
She blinked, and dropped her eyes back to where her plate was... or where she thought it was rather. Fumbling for her fork, she furrowed her eyebrows and picked it up- egg free, attempting to take a bite without her vision. The fork poked her squarely in the cheek, and she threw out all hopes of becoming a functional blind woman for the rest of her life right then and there. Wrinkling her nose, she set the instrument back down and returned to staring in Garrett's general direction. "It's odd, though. Because even though I cannot see you, I still remember what you look like." In fact, she could remember what a lot of things in the kitchen looked like. Overall it wouldn't be so bad, save for the eating part. She stood at the mention of a walk, contemplated trying to set her dishes in the sink, then changed her mind.
"You know, a walk sounds lovely." As she stepped away from the table with his help, she wrapped her fingers around his arm, and successfully stubbed her toes into the leg of her chair. Holding back a wince, she added walking to her list of things-not-to-do-while-blind, and turned a smile Garrett's way. "Where would you like to walk?"
Garrett found that Andrea was not accustomed to being complimented. It was probably due to ignorance and the general anxiety people might feel at the sight of a green person. He thought she was lovely, though, and since she couldn't see his reactions, he took the liberty to smirk at her blushes. Still looking into her eyes, his reply to his being one of the few to see her gorgeous amber orbs was, " I guess that makes me extremely fortunate then."
He was surprised and a bit amused at the idea of her trying to continue to eat with no sight. Her had to be ravenous to risk poking herself in the face with metal tongs. He just shook his head and smiled, resisting the urge to snicker audibly."It's odd, though. Because even though I cannot see you, I still remember what you look like." Smiling further as he waited by her side, he asked, " I hope that it is a favorable picture in your head?" A little flirting never hurt anyone. Who knew? It might actually get Garrett somewhere someday.
He was pleased that she was so agreeable her gloved fingers wrapping over his arm as she took his assistance. it was a resistable urge to put his arm around her waist, but just barely. Garrett sometimes wondered if he didn't possess some kind of secondary mutation related to charm. It aways seemed so easy to have women respond agreeably to him. Unfortunately, it was the long term that rarely panned out. For now, he would settle with the closeness of a beautiful friend, " Well, the weather is nice enough, why don't we just walk the grounds? you might enjoy the smells in the flower garden and we could sit at the gazebo for a while." Would that actually work, being so forward? He was interested to find out.
She giggled, and moved away from the table with him. In a way, the picture she had of him in her head was probably a little skewed, seeing as she couldn't entirely focus on it. There were lots of things going on that she had never noticed before, or had only noticed while trying to sleep. Lots of colors she only saw on tv, as well as shapes in the colors. It was like watching clouds, and trying to pick out animals. "Of course it is, why would it not be?" She grinned at him, forgetting for the moment many of her insecurities... like her teeth, as the flirt went right over her head. When it came to things of that nature, she was almost always oblivious, happily so though.
Instead, she turned to thinking about his offer, a walk in the garden and a chat under the gazebo. It sounded downright pleasant. "That sounds like a great idea, actually... I haven't been able to explore much of the garden. I did not even know there was a gazebo out there..." With another nervous giggle, she allowed herself to be escorted outside, when the sun was shining and birds were chirping. The epitome of a lovely summer day.
Even without sight vision, she knew once she stepped into the sunlight. It was warm on her skin, and she could feel goosebumps race up her arms. "I hope it does not look ridiculous that I am wearing pajamas..." She blinked, plucking at her shirt with her free hand. "Then again, I suppose I cannot see peoples reactions anyway, so it should not matter." She turned her chin in his direction and tucked some of her hair behind her ear. Had she thought to bring her glasses with her, she might have asked him to switch her vision back on so she could see the gazebo he was taking her to. With them sitting back on the kitchen table though, she shrugged the thought away. "Do you walk out here often, Garrett?"
