The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Mettaliar had just came out of the living room and decided to find a place to sit and rest. Much stress and exhaustion after the whole fight with Iris was enough to wear him out. He found the dining room to be empty and decided to sit down. Though he wanted to talk to someone, he knew that a lot of people were busy or just as exhausted as he was. He leaned his arm on the table and placed his chin on his fist. He stared at the wall for a bit and cracked his neck.
While he had his quiet, he ran over his thoughts for a while. It was the first time he really had a fight with another mutant. The thing was, was that he couldn't believe how much of a fight it was. As much as he knew Iris was a strong fighter, he had some idea that there were even stronger mutants out there. He could barely face up to Iris, and that was with a group of people by his side. If he joined the X-Men, or went on to leave and become a mercenary, could he really face up to those that were stronger than Iris? he shuddered at the though and closed his eyes. He usually had low self-esteem, but this was a bit more than he was used to.
He sat back and looked around. Since no one seemed to be coming by for a while, he decided to do something he hadn't done in a while. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a hair-tie. He pulled his long hair back into a ponytail, revealing that scar along his eye, and tied it up. He then returned to leaning against his arm and looked at the wall again.

Neena hummed quietly to herself as she rummaged through the kitchen cabinets, which seemed to be sorely lacking in supplies. Not surprising, considering how many teenagers lived in the Mansion. Deciding to make a shopping trip later, she put together a list of the basics and essentials. Once finished she walked toward the front door.
As she passed the dining room, she paused, then backtracked a few steps. There was a young man sitting at the table, alone, a somewhat depressed look on his face. She tilted her head to the right curiously. Pocketing her shopping list she walked up to him quietly, hoping she wouldn't startle him.
"Hey there, mefriend. That face begs for someone to ask what's wrong?" She pushed her sunglasses up onto her hair, a warm smile reaching her grey-white eyes. "Care to share with a listening ear?"
She hadn't met many of the students yet, but she wanted those she did to consider her a friend they could talk to about anything. And this young man looked like he really needed a friend to talk.

Mettaliar jumped a bit as a voice broke through his thoughts. He did not recognize the voice, or the lady who's voice it was once he saw her. He calmed down for a moment, before realizing his hair was up. He quickly put his hair down and covered his eye again. He then turned to the lady and put on a smile.
"Oh, hello there. I've just been sitting here, thinking about things. If talking to me wouldn't put anything aside, it would not mind some company here. The name is Mettaliar, by the way." He returned to his leaning position yet kept his glance on the newcomer. He hoped he wasn't too open or weird in that introduction.

"Oh, hello there. I've just been sitting here, thinking about things. If talking to me wouldn't put anything aside, it would not mind some company here."
"Not at all. I was just going to try and restock the larder, but it can easily wait. I'm thinking this is more important." She set her purse on the floor, and pulled out a chair to sit down.
"The name is Mettaliar, by the way."
"Nice to meet you Mettaliar. I'm Neena, one of the new teachers." She held out her hand to shake his, noticing as she did that he was quite a bit taller than her. "So what's on your mind? Some heavy thoughts from the look of it." She noticed he seemed self-conscious, but said nothing aloud about it.

Mettaliar nodded as Neena introduced herself. It was nice to meet the new people here, especially the adults. He didn't know why, he guessed mostly cause he wondered who ran this place besides Tricity. It was also nice that he was approached by her. It always made him feel comfortable being confronted rather than trying to find someone to talk to. He just liked it that way.
"Oh, my mind is full of heavy thoughts. Always has been. It's just that recently, with the whole incident, I've had encounters that kind of... brought back thoughts that were really deep into my mind. I don't know where to start, though I can say that there are many, many things to say." He glanced at Neena through his hair and smiled respectively.

Neena nodded. "That's understandable. Hard times and disasters tend to bring buried memories and feeling back to the surface, sometimes with a vengence." She paused, then asked quietly, "Would this, perhaps, have something to do with it?" She traced the right side of her own face. Though he had tried to hide it quickly, she had still noticed the scar by his eye. It looked recently reopened as well. "Did that happen during this last fight?"
She hadn't been in the Mansion at the time Iris had gone crazy, but she'd heard about it quickly enough from various students when she returned later that day.

Mettaliar was a bit shocked, but calm about her noticing the scar. He hadn't really remembered at that time that she had walked in on him with his hair up so he really wasn't surprised. He sat back in his chair and sighed.
"This scar has been with me since I was 14, when I lived back in New Jersey. It's the reason why I'm here in New York right now. I had to run, as I had no where to run. All my friend's parents didn't like me being a mutant, the family outside of my parents where no use running to, as the reason why I go this scar was because my dad attacked me." He paused and looked down. It was the first time in a while that he revealed that part of him. He felt he had to, though, as he just couldn't bring himself to lie to her. He looked up again back at her.
"Yet, you are right. Recently it was reopened. It was from before this fight, though." He leaned back a bit more and thought to himself. Gee, not exactly the best way to introduce yourself.

Neena sighed. She placed her elbow on the table and leaned her head against her hand. "Hmm. Humans do tend to be a rather distrustful lot, don't they?" It was a rhetorical question said without malice; it was a simple fact. "I'm sorry you had to find that out from your own family."
"Yet, you are right. Recently it was reopened. It was from before this fight, though."
"That must have been painful." Her hand reflexively went to her side, which was still bandaged beneath her shirt from her first experience with the Mansion's Danger Room. Pain was a sensation she could still sympathize with. "Were you afraid when it happened?"
She wasn't specific about which instance she meant. She figured she would let him decide; whichever incident he mentioned first would most likely be the one he needed to talk about most.

Mettaliar sat and listened as Neena spoke. He saw her grab her side at one point, which he considered odd. He wouldn't ask about it yet, as she seemed more interested in talking about him than herself. He didn't mind it, though he wasn't used to it as he usually changed the subject towards the person. He decided to be respectable and not do that though.
"If you mean the attack by my father, than no. Well, neither was the reopening of it. Well, when I got the scar, it was more of a 'Wow' moment than a surprising or shocking moment. I knew he didn't like me being a mutant and me using my powers, just a little depressing that he would take it that far, you know?" He looked at her, than felt like slapping himself. Would he expect her to know? Not really. He just sighed and put his hands in the pockets of his coat.

She nodded. "Unfortunately, I do. Fear seems to push people over the edge, to do things you wouldn't think them capable of. And just because they are blood, doesn't mean that they are family, or that they consider you family." That last part was experience talking.
"Have you heard from your father since then? Or your mother?" Another pause. "Do you want to?"
She smiled a bit as he seemed to become uncomfortable again. He was a shy one, for sure.

Mettaliar felt relaxed as Neena responded to his answer. He felt some connection she had to his response and even his experience. He was drawn away from his leaning spot slightly, yet kept his distance as to not seem like a weird guy. After she finished he sighed and looked down for a second.
"No. I ran away while my mom was away. My dad had been knocked out by me when I left. I don't know what my dad told her when she came home. I'm too much of a wuss to go back and face them. I miss my mom and friends though. What's sad is none of them know anything but what my dad told him. For all know, I could be dead to them." A small tear went down his cheek, but he quickly wiped it away hoping Neena didn't see.

I miss my mom and friends though. What's sad is none of them know anything but what my dad told him. For all know, I could be dead to them."
Neena was chewing on her pinkie nail as he spoke, one of many quirks she'd picked up over the years. This particular one indicated she was listening closely. When he finished, she remained quiet at first, gathering her thoughts for a moment. Finally she sighed, and lowered her arm to the table. Her tone was thoughtful, and quiet.
"I wish I could tell you that everything would be all right if you went back, and that your mother would believe you and understand if you told her what happened. Unfortunately, life in this world doesn't work out that fine for people like you and I. We've been given a heavy burden to bear, with very little help to carry it."
She leaned over the table and tilted her head a bit, trying to get him to look at her. "But don't ever feel you're a 'wuss', as you put it, simply because you worry what people think of you. All it means is that you have a heart to keep your brain in line. What your family thinks of you, or what other people think of you, has no bearing on who you are. Only you decide that. If your father thinks you are an 'abomination'," she used a word she'd been called many times in her years, "then shame on him for being close-minded. But shame on you if you believe it, because that's when you will become it. And then you'll become the same as him, close-minded and a fool."
She leaned back in her chair and crossed her arms, smiling again. "So far all I see is a young man who, like any other teenager in this world, is just trying to find out who he is. And I don't see a thing wrong with that. Only difference between you and the average teenage boy out there is that your reflexes have to be a bit quicker 'round here" She winked and chuckled, hoping to get at least a smile out of him.

Mettaliar looked up at her and nodded his head. He knew she was right, he knew she saw the one weakness of his usual metallic personality. He saw Neena wink and let out a slight smile. He felt reassured that this place was to be his home for a long, long time. A year here, and he felt closer to the people here than at any other time. He liked being social, but being pushed aside by people that were as close as blood could come drove him aside. Now people he barely knows, even never met before, sit down and talk with him. This was a home, and he was glad to be here.
"Yes, I've found that out little by little. I've also found out who to really put trust in little by little. Everything I've learned had been little by little. That way, if your learning something wrong, you don't collapse much. Too bad it was too much two years ago. I've tried to put it behind me, which can be noticable by me trying to hide the scar, the only reminder that it ever happened. I guess just having that reminder open up again triggered my mind."
He was about to sit back again when something caught his mind. "Just wondering, did anything ever happen to you? You seem to know how to handle things like this so well, I just was thinking maybe I wasn't the only one that came here for a reason similar to this. Am I correct?" He looked up and raised his eyebrow.

Neena's grin widened a bit, and she chuckled. She reached out to ruffle his hair, having to reach up, since he was taller. "You should pull your hair back more often, scar or not. You've got pretty eyes, you should show them off. Give some of these girls 'round here a reason to swoon a bit," she teased. She enjoyed being around kids she could be like an older sister to, as opposed to just another teacher.
"Just wondering, did anything ever happen to you? You seem to know how to handle things like this so well, I just was thinking maybe I wasn't the only one that came here for a reason similar to this. Am I correct?"
She placed her head against her hand, again chewing on her nail idly.
"Well, in a word, 'yes'." She nodded easily. "Though I'm not sure exactly if it's my mutation that got me pushed out of my family. At least, not the obvious one. I grew up in a village in Kenya. We were poor, and I had to steal to survive. There were times I would even poach on the Preserves. And I got caught often. But I think what did it was this one hunt I went on. I took down a mother hyena. I don't know how much you know about hyena's, but let's just say they give Pit Bulls a run for their money, especially the females. Anyway, I managed to kill her, but she'd latched onto my leg, and once she was dead, they still had to pry her teeth loose."
Neena patted her leg, just below the knee, were beneath her jeans was a set of 'teeth sized' scars. It hurt like you wouldn't believe, but I watched the whole procedure, with interest. My family said my reaction was unnatural, which is true. Several more similar hunts, and my family was convinced I was a demon, or something of the like. I actually left before anything like that," she pointed to Mettaliar's scar, indicating the attack on him, "could happen."
"Come to find out, after being picked tracked down and picked up by the Xmen that I'm incapable of feeling fear, or anything associated with it. I hear its actually a mental condition, as opposed to a mutation. And I have been told by many of my students that I'm mental. Either way, that's pretty much why I'm here now. With some of the mutations these kids have, combined with the general lack of control, Mr. X figured I'd be perfect for the job." She laughed again. "We'll see if everyone is right."

Mettaliar blushed as Neena complimented him and rustled with his hair. He lowered his head slightly and chuckled a bit. He wasn't used to anyone complimenting him really. At least if someone did he never took it seriously. He smiled widely and nodded his head and listened to her story, raising his eyebrow every once in a while in a state of surprise.
"Wow. That must not feel so good. At least you got out of there before anything could happen to you. You are much much too nice of a person to have anything done to you, especially for reasons such as that. Also glad to see you came here. In my opinion, it's the best place for people like us, you know?" he looked at her with a smile.
