The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Daria smiled as she held the mug tightly in her hands. the cup was scorching hot but she searched for warmth and had no clue that the cup was burning her skin. She sat back down.
Since her nerves didn't register it, neither could Mike tell from his powers. His first clue was when he poured himself a cup and couldn't even bear to touch it. Frowning slightly, he started telepathically checking the nerve relays that led from the heat receptors in Daria's skin to her brain.
Mike frowned at the nasty red welts the cup had left. The disturbing thing was that her pain receptors hadn't picked it up either.
He took the cup from her for a moment, considering what he had just thought of. Frowning in concentration, he closed his eyes, letting his consciousness seep past her brain and into her nerves.

Daria was vaguley aware that something was wrong and she looked down at her hands while Mike probed her nerves.
"Oh crap.." she said. As Mike helped become aware of the pain she was failing to feel it was all Daria could do to keep from screaming. She rushed to the sink and ran her hands under the cold water which made them feel a little better before they began to feel worse.
"Mike, MIKE!" she screamed frantically for him to fix it.
Mike gave her a mental nudge, returning her to 'calm'. "Calm down, baby," he said out loud, in the dreamy not-quite-there voice he got when he was mindhopping. "It seems so obvious now, I just wasn't looking in the right places... your power, it interferes with the stone's energy, I think, or maybe it meshes with it... I don't know, I just know it reacts, and when you teleport it makes it react more. Enough that now it's gotten into your nervous system. Maybe it was a bad jump that did it... But I can feel it. It's like a dirty presence there..." he opened his eyes, they were glowing bright blue. "Time to sweep up."
Suddenly, the throbbing from the stone was gone, even if she teleported, and the room felt the same temperature it would to anyone else. And, sadly, the pain receptors in her hands worked, which Mike immediately turned off. "I don't think it's permanent, it'll probably come back after you use your powers for a while... but I can always wash it out again. Just relax, you didn't touch the cup long enough to do any real damage, just let it die down," he said soothingly.

Daria, returning to normal removed the extra clothing she was wearing, realizing now it was quite hot. She found the first aid kit in the drawer of the counter and, using her tail, she placed it on the table and opened it. Too afraid to teleport the bandages to her hand she asked Mike.
"A little help here.." she began, her voice shakey as she was still close to tears.
Mike stood up and took the first aid kit, gently applying the salve to her hands. "You can still use your powers," he said gently, "This might not even happen again. Like I said... it might have just been a bad jump. But we know that it has a strange effect from your teleporting... maybe this will help. Hell, maybe you can just teleport it out."

Daria was still silent and she didn't trust her voice to speak.
It could've been worse, Mike. I was so concerned with being warm...I could've lened against a radiator or something. Imagine if you weren't here, Mike...I'm a walking hazard. A teardrop hit one of the bandages Mike was applying.
The bandages continued applying themselves as Mike turned his attention up to Daria. Reaching up her brushed the teardrop away. "Everything happens for a reason," he said, "I'm still a firm believer in that. Without you, I'd have been killed, without me, you'd have gotten burned more... I'm still working on how this stone fits into the 'happening for a reason,' but I'm sure there's a place for it."

Daria smiled weakly and returned to her seat once the bandages were firmly wrapped around her hands.
She sighed. "Thank you. I'll be honest, I'm still terrified and confused, but thank you." She grabbed another egg roll with her tail and bit into it..there was always a solution to every problem.
