The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Mike winced, then kept going. "Well... I did think it was past me, but I got proved wrong last week. I'd been feeling a girl's emotions all the way from the city, they were so strong. A man was going on trial for assaulting, abducting, and raping her... I watched him walk on it, and followed him out of the courthouse. I got him in an alley, and I started filling his mind with exactly how it feels to have done to him what he did. THen something... I don't know, snapped. If he would have mouthed off to me one more time, I probably would have snapped him."
His eyes still didn't leave his tray. The more he thought about it, the less it sounded like it had been a good idea.

Daria continued chewing calmly, watching Mike out of the corner of her eye. He seemed to be fearing her reaction and she didn't want to give him any reason to fear it. "Oh? Is he oaky....?"
"As well as his victim was. Better shape, really..." Mike sighed. "I thought I had it all under control, now I'm not so sure. With Kage, though, I can say for once that I *am* sure that I'm just trying to make sure everyone's all right."

Daria wasn't the least bit disturbed by the story, she'd just sat there letting Mike take his time, finishing her burger. She opened one of her Milk cartons now.
"Well, you were just trying to do the right thing, Mike." Daria said after taking a sip. She felt he needed consolance and, since he still wasn't meeting her eyes, she decided to follow her instincts. "and let's face it, the government doesn't always give the right punishments. What they would see as cruel and unusual would, to the victim, be the only just thing to do." she reached acroos the table and placed her hand lightly on top of Mike's. "Speaking from experience, I'm sure if that girl knew what you did she'd thank you."
Mike kept his eyes focused down on the tray for a few minutes. THen he reached his thumb up to give her hand a little squeeze and finally looked up.
"Thanks," he said, with a sort of sad half-smile. "I just... I don't know. I don't want to prove my father right on any of the bullshit he was saying when I left."
"He had to settle seven lawsuits out-of-court to keep my record clean. When I left, he told me that when I was in my inevitable court date after being an out-of-control mutant, he'd prosecute me if he could to keep me from ruining our 'family name.' All of that, just to keep me from trying to be myself." He shrugged slightly. "Needless to say, I'm not getting any Christmas cards from home this year."

Daria shook her head in dissapointment.
"I can't say my parents would have been pleased to learn about my change either. What about your mother? Did she have any objections to the way your father acted toward you?"
"My father and brother are both of the same mind... my mother just smiles and says 'yes dear' at anything my father says. My sister, thank God, is young enough that all of this is just over her head."

Daria was begining to think that maybe she was better off with dead parents. She drew her hand back and took another sip of her milk contemplating Mike in general. A lot came with this kid.
"How old are, you Mike?" she asked seemingly random.

"Mike! You never ask a woman her age." She grinned.
"No, I turn twenty soon. I was just asking because you speak with an intense wisdom. You don't act like you have it all figured out, but you know what you know and you admit what you don't. I still see this intense emotion in you. Like, you don't just get emotions from other people, alot of it is already inside of you. You're so quite about it."
Mike shrugged. "To be completely honest, it's kind of confusing. And... intimidating. I feel everything that people feel, whether I want to or not. One of the rare people who would talk to me at my old schools told me that that was special, like I'm the one who's there to care what people feel when no one else does. She was the one who found my codename for me. I don't know... I just liked the idea that I had some purpose that was bigger than I thought I was." He shrugged, taking a drink. "Of course, two weeks later I got into another fight, she turned me in to the school, and I never talked to her again. So I don't know how much of it was just bullshit, but I've tried to stick with that... I'm the one who cries for the people when no one else will. And, going from that, making the people who caused it to pay for it."
"I guess my point is... after a while, I'd taken so much in that I'm not even sure what's mine anymore. I just have what I have."

"wow." was all that Daria could say for a moment. The cafeteria was begining to fill up. with the late eaters.
"That has to be more awful than I can imagine. Not knowing what emotions are yours. Makes me appreciate mine more." she took another swig of Milk and yawned again, by accident-it was a very involuntary act. She watched Mike for a while then gave his hand another squeeze before smiling at him. "You're doing well though. It's a huge responsibility."
Mike shrugged again. "It does get easier. I'm starting to think I should start absorbing from some Budhist monks or something, and maybe things would make sense." He considered it for a moment. "And I guess they're all mine, really. They just didn't all start out as mine."
His head jerked up toward the door, thinking Tricity had entered, but it wasn't her. "You know, when you don't want your headmistress to show up somewhere, that's where she'll be. If you WANT to talk to her, though..."
