The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

A Mirrorwalker... sounded very cool. That probably meant that he could transport himself through mirrors, or perhaps any reflective surface, judging from the fact that there were hardly any mirrors outside, but windows. Explained the 'limited teleportation'. Juka stated that his powers were short ranged too, but ten feet was better than touching distance. There was no need to point that out. Mindy didn't want to sound like she was complaining about too many things.
Both of her new friends certainly had cool powers... maybe in time, she would also think of hers as very cool. Gawain was still up for calling her Buffy; well, it wouldn't hurt to oblige him, and until a cool nickname was forthcoming, she'd have to be the 'vampire slayer' without the stakes and hopefully, vampires. Mindy took in a deep breath and stretched, then winced.
"It's starting to get cold, don't you think? And the chill is starting to seep through the frays in my jacket..." She took it off and observed the back ruefully. It was quite tattered alright, thanks to all the sliding. She ought to smile, she told herself. Things could have gotten worse; after all, a gun had been involved, but she'd escaped with only a torn jacket and a shoulder bruise... she winced again and slipped the jacket back on. She'd have to keep it hidden for a while, until it healed off.
"Okay, so I'm interested in joining the... X-school, if that's what it's called. I'm sure I've got to meet with someone, right? It doesn't seem prudent just waltzing in through the gates of such a place, when there are death traps on the fields."
>>"Floating isn't so special. And my powers are short range too. Ten feet is about it. Any further and I flee for my life."
"Yeah, but you can throw anvils and stuff around, and let me tell ya, that's kinda scary." he grinned at Juka; he was entitled to say that, on the basis of having been attacked by one of said floating objects. By mistake, of course.
>>"Maybe but I just don't want to be known as the Amazing Bubble Boy or something like that."
He actually laughed at that. People who didn't want to get stuck with certain nicknames really should not say them out loud. Because Amazing Bubble Boy sounded kinda hilarious. Good luck Gawain actually liked the weird Japanese guy, otherwise he might just have started to call him that.
"Okay, you'll need to find something cooler than that." he agreed.
>>"It's starting to get cold, don't you think? And the chill is starting to seep through the frays in my jacket..."
Gawain watched as Buffy took off her jacket with interest; of course, he wanted to ake sure her injuries were not worse than the tears on her clothes. She seemed to be all right.

Gawain grinned and stood up. So this is how recruiting works.
"Well, I did wantz in, but not through the front door" he said "But yeah, ya'll need to talk to one of the grown-ups. Not like they would turn anyone down, as far as I know." he smirked. The X's were really a bunch of Care Bears. "By the way, where have you been stayin' since ya arrived to NYC?..."
"It's starting to get cold, don't you think? And the chill is starting to seep through the frays in my jacket..."
Juka blinked. Sometimes, being wrapped in his nice warm bubble as he was, he forgot about such inconveniences as cold and wet that most other people had to deal with every day. Just one more benefit of being able to float around in a bubble. "We could certainly take you to the Mansion," Juka agreed with an affirmative nod of the head. It was rather sad for her, the state her jacket was in. He made a mental note to rectify that for her as soon as possible. No one should be relegated to wearing clothing that degreded and if she didn't have the money to replace it, he certainly did.
"Yeah, but you can throw anvils and stuff around, and let me tell ya, that's kinda scary."
Juka gave Gawain a sheepish grin. He hadn't meant to attack him with anvils, honest. Was it his fault that he had gone temorarily crazy so soon after Aura's attack on him and his mind had played tricks on him, convinced that Gawain was actually Aura? He liked to think not but he still felt terribly guilty about what had happened. At least he had turned out ok, no real harm done. But still. Another mental note was made, this one to buy Gawain something special by way of apology.
"I walked up to the gate and demanded to see my Jewelly," Juka informed them both. His Jewelly, of course, being a close personal friend from his youth, his parents and hers having done business together many times in the past. Perhaps they still did, since he hadn't spoken to his parents in months he wasn't really sure.
The school was open to everyone, from what Mindy could get from Juka and Gawain. That was good news, and seeing how frenzied this city could get, she thought it a wise idea to enroll as soon as possible. Perhaps first thing tomorrow...
Mindy looked back the way they had come, in response to Gawain's question, before she answered: "Well, this is actually supposed to be my neighborhood. I actually rented a flat on the block we were on, before the sirens moved us here. It seemed to be a nice place at first, until some noisy guy moved in next door. Been awful after that. The roof's been my sanctum ever since, but I do need somewhere safer."
Mindy wondered ahead what the mansion would be like. There'd be other people there, many of them her age. The thought made her nervous immediately, though nothing showed on her face. She could stay in her room all day, if worst came to worst. It was better than facing the unexpected in a neighborhood that thought very highly of mutants, negatively, that is.
She hadn't forgotten to take her knapsack, had she? No; that was good. She slipped into the straps and looked to the two teenagers. "Um, I hope it's not too much to ask, but I... I wouldn't mind being accompanied to the mansion. I don't even know my way there."
Her gaze had drifted down to the roof, and she drew circles with her foot. Stop it, she chided herself, but it was no use. She was getting all sort of jittery again, and no matter how hard she tried, nothing changed. Buffy the Vampire Slayer wasn't this reserved around people, was she?
>>"Um, I hope it's not too much to ask, but I... I wouldn't mind being accompanied to the mansion. I don't even know my way there."
Gawain raised an eyebrow. Buffy suddenly turned... less Buffy-ish. Nooo way. She is willing to beat the heck out of a bunch of thugs, but she suddenly becomes shy when it comes to teenage mutants like herself? Sweet.
"Allrigh, we're takin' ya to the school then. Ya can come back for your stuff in the apartment later when the neighborhood's not crawlin' with cops."
That would be better for her, and also for him, the protectors of NY law and order were people he only admired from a safe distance away.
"If we get down from here" he said, looking down over the edge of the roof "We can walk to a bus top or a subway station." he glanced at Juka "I usually use the mirrors, but I know the other routes too. So." he smiled at Buffy encouragingly "Let's go."
(OOC: we can do the whole arriving-to-school stuff too, or you can cut the thread here and start another one, Mindy, your arrival, your choice )
"Well, this is actually supposed to be my neighborhood. I actually rented a flat on the block we were on, before the sirens moved us here. It seemed to be a nice place at first, until some noisy guy moved in next door. Been awful after that. The roof's been my sanctum ever since, but I do need somewhere safer."
Juka felt for her, he really did. How awefully intolerable must it be to have someone so inconsiderate and obnoxious. It just wasn't a pleasant situation to think about. "Maybe I could threaten them with anvils and they'd be a little quieter?" It wasn't really a serious offer. At least not mostly.
"Um, I hope it's not too much to ask, but I... I wouldn't mind being accompanied to the mansion. I don't even know my way there."
Juka's bubble made a happy sort of hopping gesture, rising a foot and then falling again as he grinned his approval. "Now that, deasest one, is a fantastic idea. I know you will posatively love it there." How could one not love the Mansion, after all? It seemed a verifiable impossibility.
"Allrigh, we're takin' ya to the school then. Ya can come back for your stuff in the apartment later when the neighborhood's not crawlin' with cops."
Now that really did seem practical. "Its no worry for me to get down, sweet Gawain. If either of you beautiful people need my assistance I would be more than happy to transport you in a bubble."
