The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

I's not falling, its descending with style (Matty)
(SO SO sorry about this epically late post. I've been completely exhausted lately Dx)
"The park?"
'Please, please, c'mon...' Matty wanted to be out of the alley. Now it wasn't just something that would be nice and convenient. He wanted out. Eventually people would be getting ideas. Was he selling drugs? He would never, but these people didn't know that. All they see if some kid with long hair and facial hair who hasn't shaved or showered in a couple of days. That almost always equated to drug dealer. Being on the run in two states, one of which is actively pursuing him? No, not Matty's idea of fun times.
"Sure, I guess that sounds good... But, I was actually planning on going to the coffee store across the street for a cup of joe and maybe a bagel. You wanna join me?" Coffee sounded good. Amazing, even. He hadn't had coffee in a very long time. He wasn't one of the people who had it every day, or even once every other day. Really, he had it whenever he felt like it. That wasn't often. But the coffee breath could cover his breath up, and he hadn't gotten a really restorative night's sleep in a while. So...
"Sure, yeah, sounds great." He grinned. His teeth were still just slightly off white. He wasn't completely homeless. But drug dealers needed something that looked good so they could distinguish from homeless people...
He shoved his hands in his jacket's pockets. Still there. Thank god. He held it in his hand, glad for its existence. It was odd, he being glad for it being there. Material possessions didn't mean a whole lot. But some things... Music was there when he needed it, when he didn't want to talk to people. It was his saving grace. He needed it. It needed him.
He waited for her to start walking. He didn't quite know why he did, but he figured she would rather take the lead. After all, she did suggest going to the coffee shop first.
The coffee shop... Coffee and bagels. It reminded him of home. Home, at least, in the sense that they were both two things he always had at home. It wasn't the best breakfast in the world, but it got Matty through the day for years. He wondered if his mind would wander back to those thoughts again. He didn't want to make it look like he worshiped the thing, but... He was dying for a bagel. That could slow him down and get his thoughts more orderly.
That was probably something he needed most right now. All this excitement of running- jumping- all the way from Connecticut to New York really took its toll. Nothing could have prepared him for this. Camping? Yeah, right, there weren't stars at night, there wasn't trees and wildlife surrounding him, and he didn't even have a tent. Road trips? He had no friends right now. But, hey, he had to look at the bright side.
Next time he decides he needs to run away from something and head across the country, he knew how. He knew what kind of tactics to use, he knew how to keep out of sight, and he knew how to appear as if he was a UFO. So maybe he was lying to himself. But having people taking pictures of him as if he was a UFO was something that Matty decided he wanted to do before he died. It would be so great... If only he had the opportunity. (And I can't get anything else... Again, sorry!) (Edited for more quality ;D)
Elli smiled. "Good. Follow me then." Elli took the lead in heading to the shop. Even though she had built up a light sheen of sweat from her previous activities, the conversation had given her enough time to cool down that her heart rate was normal as she weaved through the crosstraffic, and managed to get across the street without getting hit. She was adept at maneuvering through traffic, though, having lived the first years of her life in the busy city of Philadelphia. I mean, sure, NYC was bad, but you had drivers from Jersey in Philly.
And everyone knows how bad they are.
Still, someone not used to the traffic might have gotten left behind, or even stuck out in the middle of the street, if they were unlucky. Elli, subconsciously assuming that Matty would be as deft at avoiding traffic as she was, didn't even look back until after she had ordered her coffee and bagel from Sundeers. "Grande please, with double espresso and a shot of creamer. And a bagel, with cream cheese, please." Remembering Matty with a start, Elli added "and uh, whatever he's getting." Turning to see what he wanted, Elli noticed at that point that maybe she had been a little inconsiderate, what with the traffic crossing and such.
After they got their coffee and bagels and whatever utensils needed, Elli made her way to an outside table. Sure, it was pretty chilly, but she had grown up in Philly, and needed to cool off anyways. She was sure that Matty wouldn't mind, and if he did he would say something. Besides, it was good to people watch while they talked.
"So, Matty, what do you do? You goin to college?" Ah, yes, the almost awkward small-talk while they find out things about each other. Still, at least once it was over, it was over. Usually.
