The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Verdigris smiled at the look of pure pleasure on her green mate’s face. Mouth moved seemingly automatically and the look of bliss made her feel better than she had in years. Yes, Danny’s Donuts were a touch on the expensive side, however they were delicious and worth every penny.
Gloved hands clung to the still steaming cup, gloves in weather like this was a little odd, but she decided not to mention it, for someone who had green skin, gloves were probably a tiny bit of a confidence booster. The mention of a school for mutants, for that is what she assumed was what the girl was, made her perk up her ears. She had heard mentions of a mutant-exclusive school on the news, mainly in an angry light, demanding that a different gene should not mean extra scholastic support or some such nonsense.
~“Do you live around this area as well?”
Verdigris looked at the smiling girl and glanced around to get her bearings.
“Oh aye, here and there… If you walk that way a few hundred yards you’ll see an alley next to a restaurant. Through that alley and turn a sharp right and you’ll see a large grey dumpster with an empty space behind it. That is one of my homes in this city. I have many.”
She shrugged. It was not a pleasant life, but it was one she accepted, as much out of habit as anything else. A life of running means that you are able to move on quickly. Attachments, if formed, were done so with great trepidation and the option of flight if things went wrong. This was the second attempt at friendship in the same day. She must be getting soft in her old age. She glanced around nervously, although if a giant red man or a skunk approached she would be much, much more freaked out. As it was it was just herself and the girl of green. She nibbled another donut happily.
"...Through that alley and turn a sharp right and you’ll see a large grey dumpster with an empty space behind it. That is one of my homes in this city. I have many.”
This.... distracted her from the numminess of the pastry quite a bit. She had no home?... that just wouldn't do... there had to be- MUST be a way in which she could help her new friend out! Andrea sat quietly for a moment, pondering what she could do at the moment. Being new to the city herself, she had little knowledge of what places were good to stay in, and there was no way she would recommend the motel that she had stayed in before finding the School...
The school! perhaps there was something she could do that would allow Verdigris to stay at the school? If not in her own room, maybe room in Andrea's? She pondered on this for a moment more, sipping her coffee while she thought.
This coffee was starting to taste a lot better... oddly, the more she drank of it, the less bitter it tasted... MSG induced perhaps? Putting that matter aside to be contemplated later, she shifted back to the subject at hand.
"Maybe... there is a way for you to get a more, stable, place of residence?" She offered, wincing as her accent kicked in heavily once again. "If i talk to the people at the school, maybe they could get you a room, even if it is temporary- it would keep you warm and safe at night right? Or... maybe i could just sneak you in..." Andrea pursed her lips, tapping a gloved finger against her cheek while she thoughts, "though.... i never have been very good at sneaking...."

Verdigris watched the play of emotions across the girl’s face. She smirked a little as the next awkward sip of coffee was not met with repulsion, but curiosity instead. The liquid demon was doing it again, slowly working it’s way into the system and wrapping its addictive tendrils around the drinker’s soul. Caffeine just does that to people.
“What kind of school?”
She had yet to come across any kind of institution, besides the Sanctuary, that was free for any prolonged period of time. It made her a little nervous, but as they were outside, and on friendly terms she figured it would be unreasonable to freak out just yet. She had heard of people, mutants, being tracked down, hunted even, and she had felt a share of anti-mutant “hate preachers”. It hurt to know that her parents, or brother at least, were possibly holding similar gatherings back in Hawaii, in memory of the boy that was killed.
“Asking sounds like a better idea, but if it comes to sneaking, I’m up for that too. I’ve lived too many places in the last few years to object to floors or under beds.” She considered the implications for a moment. “I won’t boogie monster at you or anything like that, I solemnly swear not to nibble your toes or disturb the dust bunnies.”
She caught herself seriously considering the floor beneath the bed and gave herself a mental shake, this was no time for weaknesses. She would fill out any forms and answer some questions, depending on their type, if it meant she would get free room and board and provided that Andrea could find her again in the giant city.
“If you can wrangle me some application forms I’ll come and have a look at this school of yours.”
She sat back and licked the sugary, spicy goodness from her fingers and noted the gloves worn by her, friend? Acquaintance? Erh, by Andrea. It was not her place to pry however and she merely sat back and smiled. The sun was shining, the birds were twittering some place and she had coffee and someone to share it with. Life. Was. Good.
((OOC. Sorry this has taken me so long, I have been in hospital the last day and a half for suspected appendicitis, and while I had this half written I had no access to a computer to post it. I am going in again the day after tomorrow to have an ultrasound to see if they can figure out what it is. Sorry about that. A second note on a lighter scale. This thread is sometime before the Wedding of Ghost and Sebastian in the Mansion where I am posting, saying that I had never been there before. Would love to end up rooming with you but may need a second thread to move in, sometime after the wedding has occurred. If Andrea cannot get the forms I could possibly arrange for Verdy to meet someone at the Mansion who could. Again sorry for the delay, doing my best to get better~ Verdy~ ))
A grin curled her lips at the mention of disturbing the dust bunnies, as it was- lucky for Verdigris if she could actually move into Andrea's room- She happened to be a very cleanly person. Living in the same house, with the same people for many years, being practically by yourself all day, taught one to pick up on the little things like cleaning in order to fend off boredom. After taking another steady sip of her coffee, she let herself dive into a quick ponder session.
In truth, she didn't have anything on her that had any information about the school- not did she really know all that much save for the address... and she didn't even remember that at the moment. In a way, the only thing she could really do was either Walk her new friend there- or head home and pick up some info that she would have to deliver at a later time.
"Well, it's a big place, and while i'm still pretty new there, they should be able to help you. I would be pretty surprised if they did not..." She sipped at her drink again, her eyes rising to watch a stranger walk by their captured table. She was tempted to growl at him in pirate fashion and poke at him with her stick, but found that her nervous nature once again would prevent that from happening.
"I could, like you said, go find the information and forms you would need, and get them to you later? We could meet up again in the park or something, have a trade off of sorts." She was reminded of those crime shows where cops and undercover agents met in secret to discuss things of a very important nature. She found herself wondering if she owned any brown trench coats and a black, rimmed hat. She already had the sunglasses, as her fingers proved as they pushed up the shades up back into place on her nose.
Well, Verdigris was surprised by the development of her own mutation, and even getting up the guts to speak to Andrea at all had been surprising. But the day seemed to have warped into a day of happy surprises, the meeting of a new friend. Far removed from the surprise of her morning stalker.
She followed the movement of her friend’s eyes as she looked at a young man walking past, the man slowed his pace slightly and did a double take at the pirate hat-ed green skin or haired pirates, and Verdy felt a surge of courage and was it, a desire to impress this new friend? No matter, the courage must be used for good, and she hailed the young man with a toothy grin and an ‘ahoy’ for good measure. It was his own fault if he refused to join in with escapades. And at his age to, shameful really. Late twenties should be the time of revalry and fun. Not staring awkwardly at strange girls wearing pirate hats.
~ “We could meet up again in the park or something, have a trade off of sorts."
Verdigris hunted in her pockets for something to seal the bargain with, a token, as it were. Her fingers found the smooth trusty surface of her marbles and she plucked one from the depths. It was a deep glossy green, the colour of thick beer bottles. She held it out to the other girl.
“To remind you. It is a busy world we live in I’m afraid love, and often the now detracts from the then.”
She sighed and glanced around. She had slept under the tree for longer than she had meant to and she had to find a spot to sleep uninhabited for the night which was slowly creeping up on the trees.
“Until next time then. We should meet again at this spot once you have the loot.”
She stood and tipped her hat. It was time for her to go, as much as she regretted it.
((OOC, will put link to next thread as soon as it’s up))
Accepting the small marble was easy enough, getting over the sentiment of it would take a while however. It was her first gift of friendship! A gift of trust. Her newly acquired friend put faith in her that they would see each other again, and she would honestly rather die than fail. Andrea's gloved fingers slipped closed over the marble as she stood and tipped her hat back at Verdigris, a small smile curling her lips.
"Until then, friend."
With a wave, Andrea gathered her coffee and her sword and made her own exit, strolling away from the hustle and bustle of the donut stand, into the park where she had been only a little while ago. her fingers toyed with the marble, and while she was walking, she pondered what exactly she would do with it. Sure, she could keep it in her pocket, but the chances of losing it were high... and she couldn't bear the thought.
She kicked leaves out of the way as she strolled, her gaze venturing forth to land on one of the brownish red things. Then, an idea hit her. Her finger fished into her coat, touching around her neck until she was sure she had found what she was looking for. A small silver chain that she had picked up from the ground but a day or so ago. It had a broken clasp until she fixed it, and with a bit of cleaning it had turned out to be a pretty enough bauble on the eyes.
Bending down, she picked up a small, long leaf, rolling the marble in it securely before she clenched a finger of one glove in her teeth and wrapped her naked palm around the leaf and marble. What resulted of this, was a stone hard casing to keep the marble safe while she fished out the proper forms to give Verdi. With the small stem of the leaf, she made a loop with her fingers and threaded her necklace though, reattaching the whole thing only once she was sure it would hold. With a smile, she slipped her glove back on and tucked the marble away inside her coat, continuing on her route home with her coffee in hand.
((sounds good. ;D twas an awesome thread, roomie!))
