The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Meld could tell that the gargoyal was not taking things well. It was obvious for anyone to see, of course, not just in his words but in the way he held himself as well. She remembered her first kill. Also remembered her lack of remorse in that kill. It had, after all, been self defense. Like Skyler's first kill, however, she hadn't been certain that her target had died by her hand. Still wasn't sure, though it no longer mattered in the long run. Her hands and her soul were stained dark with the blood of enemies and she knew definitively that she would coninue to stain them all the darker.
What was, perhaps, not so obvious but which Meld's practiced eye picked up was that she believed that Skyler would be stronger, in the end, for this experience. She saw the steel beneath his panick and sorrow even if he himself didn't yet realize it was there. She smiled at him and, if the smile was more than a little dark and not exactly what one would call friendly, it did promote a feeling of support. "Of course I'll take you to Sanctuary if that is what you desire. And, if you ever need anyting you can feel free to call me." She was preparing to write down and pass over her number when something caught her attention.
Meld knew, of course, that the police were still searching for the two of them, more so now that they had killed more than one of their own than when they had first found them. The sounds of pursuit were still clear to be seen, though they were mostly distant. Shen the rain started, however, she turned her eyes upon the door, in case the rain muffled the sounds of police approaching. She was rewarded when she caught a glimpse of an officer about to enter their little hideout and tensted herself, preparing for the inevatable battle to come. She was certain that Skyler, with his normal vission, or so she assumed, would not have been able to see the officer and was equally certain that the officer was not yet able to see them.
Before she could pounce, however, a third mutant came out of the shadows and killed them an with a silent efficiency that Meld coudln't help but admire. Efficiency she herself had in abundance, silence she was still working on.
"We appreciate the help," Meld replied, her voice just as emotionless as the other's. She wasn't sure of this mutant, had never met him before and it was clear that he was potentially dangerous. The fact that he had helped them by killing the officer was a good sign but Meld wasn't so quick to trust. She gave a warning glance towards the gargoyal, hoping that he picked up on it. Until he had proven himself, Meld wasn't about to trust him. That's how one got killed.
Skyler gave an irked frown when Meld began to get a few things together to write down a phone number. Who did she think she was? A 1-800 number any time he happened to be attacked by a mob of police? Was she going to lead him back to the sanctuary or simply leave him here in the dark with a phone number? “Are you going to show me where the Sanctuary is?”
Skyler eyes widened in shock and in increase of alertness when the body dropped to the floor with dead weight. He slid off the mount of boxes and got to his feet, eyes staring at the stranger’s victim for a few moments before his eyes ever reached the other male’s face, and when it did his gaze flickered already with caution and distrust. He didn’t take killing lightly, even if it was a valuable favor. “Thanks,” said the gargoyle, lacking much enthusiasm. Out of state of mind his tail was uncomfortably snaking from side to side, knees buckled and stiff.
He caught Meld’s glance, he had already taken up prudence. The winged-mutant made a half circle around the hooded individual, eyes needling before stepping away towards Meld. “Yah have a name?” he asked his voice having a little more life to it then the other two, and it sounded like frustration and desperation. “Can we get the hell out of here and get to this Sanctuary place, and do it without running into the cops again? You think we can pull that off?” he asked. The last thing he wanted to do was lay another hand on someone, or draw blood. The madness was stopping here.
Shade gave the two mutants an evil toothy grin at their apparent distrust of him. He kind of liked having that effect on people, even though if the side effect of it was that he didn't become very friendly with everyone he met.
"You're welcome." The shadow mutant replied with a slight bow.
"It's Shade. And if you are looking to avoid the cops it might be a little with that helicopter circling above, but it won't be impossible. Plus if the cops do fine us, I have a colleague that would love to add to her collection of police badges." Shade said chuckling at the idea.
"I suggest we leave now though before the whole squad shows up." The hooded figure said before moving back towards the door to ensure no policemen were closing in on them.

Although the Shadow mutant had helped them Meld didn't trust him. There was just something about the way he moved, the way he acted that spoke of danger. Perhaps it was the fact that he didn't appear to be the sort to fight head on if given the chance, but rather seemed more the underhanded assassin type. Not that such skills weren't useful in their context, but they didn't speak of trust, not at all. However, he was correct about the helecoptor. That was one enounter that none of them would want to see to its logical finale.
"Have any suggestions on how exactly we can leave without the helecoptor spotting us?" Avoiding the cops was usually a simple thing, involving rooftops and moving at great speeds. Humans rarely looked up. Unfortunately the helecoptor provided something a problem seeing as how those within were constantly looking down and thus the rooftops weren't likely to be the safest place to flee after all. The one blessing as far as the situation went was that they were close to Sanctuary and the cops were not likely to follow them within.
Meld stuck her head briefly outside the door to get a better look at what was going on. Thankfully she didn't spot either cops or helecoptor but that wasn't likely to last long. She could hear all of it in the distance. Thier primary advantage at this point was the fact that it was night and she, at least, could see better than any of her merely mortal enemies could. That, and she knew this part of the city very well. "Run for it?" she asked? Her voice remained dispassionate and cold. This was merely business, whether or not their lives or any other lives might be in danger.
