The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The Cause, and Solution to, All of Life's Problems
A low chuckle broke forth from Zephyr's throat as he tightened his embrace with the waif just slightly, watching the shaky sylph's skin gain a rather distinctive scarlet hue as her entire body tensed at the at the physical contact, he truly was having too much fun with this, but then the girl had asked for it hadn't she? It would have been impolite to ignore the question and manners were so very important after all, the simple fact that he drew immense amusement from watching the girl squirm in her seat was completely beside the point. She had given him an honest question and he had returned with a (mostly) honest answer. Really if the waif hadn't wanted such an intimate response then she should have chosen her words more carefully, indeed one could possibly infer from the fact she still retained her physical form indicated that the sylph wasn't quite as opposed to the hessian proposal as she thought she was.
"I don't know if you're trying to teach me a lesson or what, but I can't believe you put so little uh-meaning into personal affairs."
Zephyr's chuckle echoed once more as the snow haired gamine shifted her shoulders began to extract herself from his grip, an effort the hazel haired mercenary gracefully chose to reward as his free hand released the sylphs side and instead deftly whisked away the gamine's plate of untouched food and straightened himself back to his full height, though not before blowing a soft breath into the waifs ear and watching her tremble like a leaf in the wind. After that however the hessian walked slowly back to the sink, shaking his head in wry amusement; the girl was stimulated far too easily, it was a quite shame things hadn't gone further last night, the... conclusion, would no doubt have been quite memorable and made the morning after even more interesting.
Still though, there was little point in dwelling on what could have happened, far more practical, not to mention entertaining to focus on what had transpired. "Personal affairs?" Amusement coated in the Kabal members tone as he approached the sink. "Come now Ghost we're both adults, at least I hope we are." Laying both plates down on the kitchen counter the British elemental turned to face his alabaster companion, a smirk fully evident on his features, though it did diminish somewhat as he adopted a somewhat sincere tone. "As for meaning well, isn't the most important thing with such "personal affairs" that those involved enjoy themselves? What other reason would two people have to come together if not to take pleasure in each other's company?" There was a brief pause as Zephyr tilted his head to the side slightly. "Are you trying to tell me you did not enjoy last night?"
Things shifted directions slightly after that as a clearly flustered Ghost attempted to lead the nature of the conversation to what she felt were safer waters, describing her initial hesitations about adopting the role of teacher and the possible incompatibility of their two styles. It was an honest concern and Zephyr had been on the verge of actually taking the sylph seriously and giving a mature response right until the waif had chosen to make her final quip.
"Hmm tempting, would that be with or without our attire? I'd be rather partial to the latter myself." The hessians smirk came back in full strength for a moment before receding once more. "I can understand your concern though, we both employ our gifts in vastly different ways, however if anything I think this would be an interesting opportunity, teaching is not a one way street after all, I think there is a great deal we could learn from each other." The salacious smirk returned, "For example I could help you learn to relax, if you don't mind another shower that is."
Cafas: "Zephyr is the king of bad decisions, but if Sebby being weak to ghost is anything to go by, not so amazing at follow through."
"...What other reason would two people have to come together if not to take pleasure in each other's company?"
There were a lot of other reasons that sprang to mind. "What about company and friendship?" Did she sound like a carebear? "It can't all be about... you know." She really was in over her head here. Her hands went for her hair once the other elemental was done breathing on her.
"Are you trying to tell me you did not enjoy last night?"
If the table had been closer, Ghost would have smacked her head on it. Sometimes talking to Zephyr was as good as talking to a wall. "I'm not... I just... I mean... you know..." She was lost and there was no denying that. "I just... I mean, I don't even really know you and you wanted... a lot." Ghost drew her bare feet up into the chair and hugged her khaki clad knees to her chest. "Shouldn't you... i don't know, know my favorite color or something first?"
From her secure ball in the chair she felt secure enough to wrinkle her nose at Zephyr for the naked comment. "When you ghost you're bound to loose your clothes every now and then." She tried not to be embarrassed about that. Power mishaps happened. It hadn't been intentional. In fact... teaching him almost guaranteed some amount of nudity, canoodling or no. Ghost sighed and put her chin on her knees. Hopefully he'd be a clothing keeping prodigy.
"I think there is a great deal we could learn from each other." She had actually already learned from their earlier encounter. Different people always thought of different applications even if the medium was the same. So really... she was getting the better end of this deal.
"I could help you learn to relax, if you don't mind another shower that is."
Ghost frowned at him. "Why does everyone always say I need to relax? That's what got me into this mess in the first place."
Leaning nonchalantly against the kitchen counter Zephyr idly rested his forearms against the formica surface while he regarded his snow haired companion with a skeptical expression upon his features, listening intently to the slight sylph stammer out her poorly planned repartee and raising an incredulous brow even as the corners of his lips edged upwards; the gamine truly was beyond her depth, a virgin in almost every sense of the word, veritably it would be an act of kindness to simply ¬cease the discussion of last night’s amorous activities and venture forth into the more mundane topic of training so as to help the girl feel more at ease.
Kindness was grossly overrated.
“I wanted?” The Kabal members tone was equivocal yet amused as he crossed one leg over the other before continuing on with what was swiftly becoming his habitual hubristic tone, “If I recall correctly… Mary, every advance last night was a result of your actions. I did not initiated the first kiss, nor was I the first to disrobe or suggest a shower. Indeed I could so far as to say I was merely endeavoring to keep up with your advances.” The hessians smirk became somewhat more pronounced as his azure eyes glowed with malicious mischief, however the British mercenary abruptly lost his thread of thought as the wavering waif released a comment so cliché and chaste that the hazel haired elemental was at a loss for words and could only blink in response as he wordlessly sought to emend the unraveled strands of this thoughts before he tilted his head once again and spoke in a cadence of absolute conviction and certainty.
“Blue.”
In all truth Zephyr’s response was little more than an educated guess; the hessian had no actual idea what the sylph’s cherished colour was, however one of the little things he had learned over the years was that authority was 45% smoke 45% mirrors and 10% credibility, verily it was almost a type of magic; if one adopted the correct cadence and posture they would not only be obeyed they would be believed, of course the entire act relied upon the audience in question and the amount of incredulity and confidence they themselves possessed and, in this particular case, although the sylph could hardly be described as being blessed with a dominant persona the dissolute mercenary hoped the girl possessed enough confidence to be certain of her own preferences, if not well… no one could really be that submissive could they?
The taciturn Kabal member pondered this possibility as his snow haired companion merely drew herself into a tighter ball on her chair, however the avaricious libertine was rapidly roused his internal musings when the subdued sylph encountered hitherto undiscovered backbone and actually attempted to cheek him and, despite himself, Zephyr found a slight grin working its way across his features as he folded his arms across his chest. “Come now Ghost no need to be coy, exhibitionism is almost mainstream these days, though I will admit I am tempted to ask how often you’ve managed to flash members of the institute.” The mercenary’s grin grew as he spoke with false innocence and sincerity and it was only sheer will which kept the azure eyed elemental from emanating any sound of amusement.
After the sylph had been suitably abashed the British elemental allowed himself a soft chuckle before he shifted to face the kitchen counter, believing his diffident companion to be too embarrassed to carry on the conversation as he moved easily to the sink with the intention of giving the girl a few silent minutes to compose herself before they moved on to less entertaining topics. However the dissolute Kabal member had not even begun running the water when the waif spoke up.
"Why does everyone always say I need to relax? That's what got me into this mess in the first place."
Pausing in his actions Zephyr’s hand froze a short distance from the faucet as he craned his and fixed his guest with an appraising look before quietly turning back to his work and filling the sink with a constant stream of steaming water. The silence however did not last long, “It may have been a mess,” he stated casually, “however you did enjoy yourself did you not? Now ask yourself, when was the last time you had fun with others? When was the last time you laughed with friends? ”
Cafas: "Zephyr is the king of bad decisions, but if Sebby being weak to ghost is anything to go by, not so amazing at follow through."
Never before had one word made Maya want to flat out hit someone before. The whole package of surety and superiority made her sick. Sick enough to uncover her stubborn side.
"No." And Ghost packed as much into her one word response as Zephyr had in his assumption. Where Zephyr's word was a flow of inferred accuracy, Ghost's was a brick wall. And her body language and tone echoed that stalwart denial.
Technically her favorite color was aqua. That was sort of like blue, but without the green mixed in it just wasn't her favorite. So he was wrong. And from now on in the conversation he would be wrong. Because she was a stubborn girl at times and she could do that.
“Come now Ghost no need to be coy, exhibitionism is almost mainstream these days, though I will admit I am tempted to ask how often you’ve managed to flash members of the institute.”
"I am neither exhibitionist nor nudist and well you know it." Despite the fact that she had flashed the students... What? Three times? "There are certain hazards that accompany the usage of state-changing power and bikinis." And she was dead serious.
A spurious sigh of despondence escaped the mercenary curved lips as Ghost trenchantly rejected his chimera conjection completely out of hand with nothing more than a mere morpheme, indeed her response was uttered with a cadence of such condemnation that the hessian couldn’t help but allow a speculative brow to rise as he reconsidered the submissive sylphs abrupt change in demeanor. Admittedly it was only a minor alteration, one which could have been easily overlooked had the gamine not adopted such an affronted tone, as the Kabal members azure gaze swept down the ingénues slender form however his argus eyes noted the almost negligible changes in the girls posture; back stiff, shoulders taut and neck muscles tensed… all in all signs that the waif was wearying of his persiflage’s palaver.
The polite and judicious thing to do at this point would simple be to recede from the current conversation and branch off towards safer subjects of discourse, however although such a course would prove prudent, it wouldn’t be anywhere near as entertaining. Besides if the ingénue’s earlier words were any indication then the girl was clearly dealing with an unhealthy amount of stress which, he reflected wryly would likely have been significantly reduced had last night possessed a more fulfilling conclusion, still the past was the past and all that remained was the present, he would simply provide the gamine with an outlet for her frustrations, either that or make the problem worse, whatever the outcome though he was almost guaranteed some amusement.
"I am neither exhibitionist nor nudist and well you know it. There are certain hazards that accompany the usage of state-changing power and bikinis."
Zephyr blinked and for a few indeterminate moments the azure eyed hessian simply stared silently at his snow haired companion, if he hadn’t know better, he almost could have sworn that the witless waif was deliberately giving him the rope he needed to hang her, metaphorically speaking of course. Surely no one could be quite so pococurante with their words? Yet as he gave Ghost another brief reconsideration the hazel haired elemental found himself unable to detect any signs of deceit in the sylphs mien, thus he abruptly allowed his amusement to overcome his initial speculation as he spoke in a tone which clearly conveyed both his amusement and skepticism.
“You own a bikini?”
Cafas: "Zephyr is the king of bad decisions, but if Sebby being weak to ghost is anything to go by, not so amazing at follow through."
The very first line of the message had really confused her. Ghost's voice talking about washing her hair. Didn't messages usually start with something like "hello"?
>>>"You know. I uh... I think... I have to go home and wash my hair..."
And the some man, chuckling softly. That low key, half amused laugh that sounded somewhat familiar for some reason.
>>>“You can do that here… I’ll help. ”
Gah?! What kind of message was this? Clearly not a message she was supposed to actually receive. Surely this must be a joke or a mistake or something.
>>>"Showers are for getting clean not for getting... I'm capable of washi--"
Ghost doth protest an awful lot, Katrina thought. What could she possibly be talking about? Help washing her hair? He didn't mean... And the man...
>>>“What do you say?”
His voice was even more familiar than his mischievous chuckling laughter. It couldn't be... could it?
Then, from Ghost, a squeak and rapid breathing.
...?
>>>"Can you move, Zephyr? I think someone's calling me."
...!
There was a sharp intake of breath and a smooching noise.
...?!!
>>>"Behave. It's... Katrina."
Click.
...
...
...
Zephyr and Ghost?! Really?
Katrina stared at the phone for a full minute, trying to decide what, if anything, she should do. She had overheard something she was not meant to overhear, and they knew she had overheard it. Was she supposed to call back? Was she supposed to ignore that she had ever heard the message to begin with? It... well it sounded a little like Ghost might need someone to check in on her just in case that... thing... had been a bad-and-not-good... thing. It had sounded a little bad-and-not-good... somehow.
Err...
Katrina dialed Ghost's number. It rang. She blushed. It rang again. She blushed harder. She got the voice mail message.
"Uhm... Hi Ghost. This is Katrina. ... I'm just... returning your phone call... and checking to see if you're okay. ... You sounded a bit out of breath... like you'd been running... or something. Anyway, call me back if you need anything."
She hung up, redder even than the crimson cell phone she had inherited from Mars. Maybe she shouldn't have left a message at all. Probably.
