The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

A long bus ride in from Vancouver finally ends at it's destination and the destination of many passengers. Many people get off the bus slowly, stretching their legs and looking around for loved ones, one in particular, a rather large male with long brown hair, green/blue eyes and a trench coat, steps out of the bus, not even looking for anything. He walks to the baggage compartment and pulls out a duffel bag and a suitcase, strapping either on himself and turning on his heal to walk away from the bus.
The man begins his purposeful strides through the streets of New York, heading to anywhere other than the bus and his former home. He pulls a small cellular device out of his pocket and unfolds it, punching in a series of numbers before holding the phone to his ear after pressing send. *Ring ring!* "Yeah... Hey Aris, it's Nick... How's it going? Yeah... I'm in New York now... We should meet up, especially considering I dont know my foot from my hand in this place." Bear pauses a moment, listening to the other end. "Yeah, alright, I'll get directions... The Starbucks on 39th and Jackson... Got it... I'll see you there soon."
Bear clicks the phone closed and looks around for anyone that doesnt look like an idiot. He catches one man that seems to have an air about him and gets directions to said Starbucks before thanking him and heading off in the direction he was pointed. Walking in New York City wasn't too different from walking in Vancouver except the fact that he had no idea where he was or where he was going. Bear just kept to himself the entire journey to the Cult House known as Starbucks. Some time later, he could finally see the Starbucks sign down one of the streets and let out a relieved sigh, thanking the directions he got repeatedly in his head.
Once inside, Bear didnt get many looks besides the usual curious customers wondering who's coming into their safe haven and the obvious clerk at the counter. "Can I get you something?" Bear looks up at the menu a moment.
"You dont got anything other than that crap? Gah... Uhm..." He looks around the shop quickly before noticing a little drink bar and grabbing a Sobe Energy Drink. "I'll take this..."
"That'll be $2." The clerk punches a few buttons on the register and Bear hands him the money before walking away without change or a receipt and sitting down at a seat near the window and door, always wanting to have some kind of escape route if need be. Now, the wait, hopefully only a short one though. Bear sat back in his seat uncomfortably and watched outside, waiting for his long lost friend to show up.

Meld found herself sitting in her room at Sanctuary anxiously awaiting a call from her long lost friend Nick. It had been almost 3 years since she had last seen him and in that time she had spoken to him only a few times, just long enough to let him know that she was still alive and doing ok. At one time he had been her closest friend and he was the only person from that life that she kept in contact with, small though that contact may have been. He was also the only person from that life who knew she was a mutant. As much as she cared about him, her life had taken a turn for the worst when she discovered her powers; she had gotten involved in organized crime, not to mention the human discrimination she had to deal with on a daily basis, and she didn't want to risk him being dragged into it by telling him where she was. But after finding Sanctuary things had changed and a couple of days ago she had told him exactly where she was and that she had finally found some stability and her own kind. And he had decided to join her in New York. He was supposed to arrive tonight, and so here she was, waiting for his call, both looking forward to it greatly and dreading it just a little bit. It had been so long since they had last talked and many things had changed for her during that time. She wasn't the same person she had been then, not at all.
Suddenly her phone started ringing. She took a deep breath before picking it up. "Hello?...Its going good...Good I'm glad you made it here safe...Yes we should meet up. I know of a Starbucks nearby, on 39th and Jackson...You got that...OK I'll see you there soon." Meld took a deep breath after getting off the phone, suddenly nervous. He knew she was a mutant but he hadn't yet seen her and she knew he was never comfortable with his own mutant status. What if he judged her harshly for hers? She wasn't sure if she was emotionally strong enough to deal with that. And he didn't know the details of some of the things she'd had to do to survive...
Deciding that none of these questions would be answered just sitting here, Meld got up and began walking towards Starbucks. It wasn't far and she was starting to get to know the city, or at least her little question of the city, a little better. She arrived at her destination after about 15 minutes of walking. Taking another deep breath she entered, looking around for her old friend. He wasn't hard to spot.
"Nick," she called out enthusiastically, a broad smile breaking out on her face. Seeing his face for the first time in three years, none of her worries suddenly mattered at all. She ran up to her old friend and gave him a big hug. "I'm so happy to see you! I can't believe we waited this long to get together."
"Well Aris hun, y'know if you hadnt run away so suddenly we wouldnt have had to wait this long." Nick grinned lightly, jabbing her playfully in the side. "It has been way to long though, we should have gotten together much sooner but I guess now is better than never, right?" Nick smiled lightly, pulling out a chair at the table he was sitting at. After helping Aris into her seat like the usual gentlemen he was with her back when they were best friends, he moves over to his chair and sits down slowly before shooting back up. "Do you want anything to eat or drink? I'll buy..." Bear smiles, pointing back to the counter where the clerks were standing looking at Aris oddly.
Nick catches the gaze of the clerks at the desk and notices they're staring at his old friend, his blood boils under his skin and he growls lightly under is breath, not knowing what he should do in the current instance. His mind began racing with the thoughts of how she must've been treated in the time they've been apart, the looks she must have gotten and the downright insults from the more ignorant people in the area. His blood continued to boil, knowing he wasnt there to defend her. He was just like her, but he had the perk of being able to hide himself because he had no body altering affects from his ability.
These thoughts then formed into thoughts of him actually being a mutant as well and he growled lightly to himself, not wanting to fully acknowledge his ability. He sighs lightly to himself, not really knowing what to think anymore before glancing back at Aris, "Well a drink or food? Or would you rather go somewhere else?" Nick smiles lightly, not wanting to let Aris know about his inner turmoil from the thoughts he had just been having.

"Well Aris hun, y'know if you hadnt run away so suddenly we wouldnt have had to wait this long." Aris felt a pang of guilt. She hadn't meant to lost contact with Nick like that, not really. But it was a matter of necessity that she leave, both to avoid her parents and to avoid the police. She was well familiar with anti-mutant sentiments, even then, having lived with two of the biggest anti-mutants she could think of and knew the cops very easily could have blamed the obviously mutant sister for the death. "I'm sorry," Meld said honestly, "but you know how my parents were and you know what happened before I left." It was still difficult thinking about her sister. Meld grinned again to her friend. "But we're together again aren't we? And that's all that matters now. And thank you for the offer." Meld ordered herself a coffee.
Meld couldn't help but notice her friend's gaze and the anger in his eyes at the way many people in the coffee shop were staring at her. Such looks were an every day occurrence to her by now and she had gotten used to them, though she would never completely accept them. Usually, however, it just wasn't worth the effort of doing anything about them, otherwise her entire life would consist of nothing but showing humans why it was not polite to stare.
"Don't worry about them," Meld said softly. "They're not worth it. In time they'll see that our kind are better than they're kind. Until then let them live with they're delusions." Her voice held the convictions of her statement. "We can speak wherever you'd like. Anywhere I go the stares follow, except for places where there are only mutants and I've only ever found such place."
"But you know how my parents were and you know what happened before I left." Those words struck his memory banks like a lightning bolt, flashing back to listening to her parents complaining about the 'Mutant Problem' while he himself was a mutant in their home. His parents as well complained about the growing 'Mutant Problem', always, it seemed when he was in the room. Luckily though, for him, his parents had no idea, nobody had any idea what he was besides Aris herself. "You dont need to be sorry old friend... I missed you." Nick smiled lightly as he sat down in the chair across from Aris, resting back in his chair, still uncomfortably.
"So... How's life been treating you? How're you doing? What've you been up to? I want to know all of these things and more... I wish we could just go somewhere else but I guess you're right, you probably will get the stares wherever we go... It sickens me... It's like they've never seen anyone different before." Nick sighs lightly, looking around the shop and watching the people, hoping he doesnt have to pick some sort of a fight. His body always seemed tense as he was sitting in a room full of people of all sorts, all he was hoping for was for someone to hit him if something were to start.
"What's this place you're talking about? A place for people like...." He felt himself pause, not wanting to include himself in that statement but feeling like he should, especially around Aris. She was, afterall, the first and only person to know about his abilities for the most part, not including a few people with ideas. But that's all they were, ideas, he shrugged those people off and brought his mind back to the present, his eyes locked in on Aris', "us... Where would this place be? Since when did mutants begin gathering strength and union and organization? I havent heard about this back home... It was mostly "More Pandemonium" "Mutants Blah blah blame." "Mutant Pandemonium". I really gotta know more about this stuff... It's kinda interesting."

Meld watched the play of emotions across her friend's face, herself remembering the kind of talk both of their parents tended to engage in. It used to make her so angry listening to the way Nick's parents talked about the "mutant problem" or the "mutant menace" with Nick right there in the room but what could she really do about it? They never had a clue that their own son was a mutant. "I missed you too," Meld said with a smiling, bringing her thoughts back to the present day. No use dwelling on such unpleasant thoughts.
"Life these last few years has been...interesting." She wasn't quite sure how much detail to go into. "I'm not going to lie, the last few years have been tough. I left with basically nothing, a visible mutant. I've been working for some very unsavory people to try and get by, moving from city to city. I've had to deal with, well you can see the kind of crap I've had to deal with." She let out a bitter laugh. "But it hasn't been all bad either. I've come to embrace what I am, come to know myself as the next evolutionary step. I can live with the ridicule and the looks because I know, in the end, that mutants are destined to inherit the earth and its only a matter of time. And finding those of my kind...I've found a new reason to live, a new motivation. You don't need to be ashamed of what you are!" Maybe it didn't seem like much, but she wasn't ashamed of her life. "And of course I want to hear all about your life as well."
Meld grinned, thinking of Sanctuary and what it stood for. "Be proud of what you are, Nick, don't hesitate to embrace it. You're better than them and you know it! And Sanctuary is everything I could ever want. They allow mutants, including me, to stay there for free. Its exactly what the name implies, a sanctuary for all mutants. You don't need to be ashamed of what you are there. I can show you later, if you'd like."
I really gotta know more about this stuff... It's kinda interesting." Aris laughed. "Its more than just interesting, its relevant. These are our people and what they do effects us."
"Wow, well my life hasnt been that interesting by any means at all... I'd be lying if I said I did anything really... Basically, I spent a lot of time just working and saving up money, knowing one day I'd want to get the hell out of there... And you calling me just gave me the idea that coming out here to see you was the best thing I could choose to do..." Nick smiles lightly, listening to her talk.
"Wow, you sure do sound proud of who and what you are... I wish I could be like that, I'm almost ashamed to be honest... Probably because of those past feelings we decided not to talk about..." Nick's thoughts raced again, going back to the sounds of disappointment in the voices of his parents when they talked about OTHER peoples kids being found to be mutants. He knew, because of that sound, that he didnt want to ever be found out by his family or anyone other than Aris. He kept his secret, just that, a secret ever since he found out about it. The only person that knows about it is the person that knew him best, the person that was sitting across from him at the table going on about how great it is to be with your own kind and how great it is to be a mutant. "The next evolutionary step" he heard her say.
"The next evolutionary step." It almost had a great ring to it, wait, what is Nick thinking about? He's a 'freak', not the next evolutionary step... Or was... That thought proved to be more and more pointless to the young man as he mulled it over and over in his head, not knowing where to go with it. "I might be interested in seeing this Sanctuary of yours Aris... But... I dunno if I'd be welcome there..." More like 'I dont know if I'd feel comfortable associating myself with other freaks. My only reason for even considering it is to spend time with the beautiful Aris again.' Nick sighed lightly, his mind jumbled with confusion and certainty all at the same time. He didnt know what to think or how to think it, he just knew he was supposed to think and that was supposed to be good enough.
Bear sat back in his seat and popped the cap off of his Sobe and sipped from the glass bottle slowly, taking everything in as fast as he could and to the best of his ability. He could feel her passion for Mutant Dominance and it overwhelmed him, made him consider his position in the world, he gets hurt and gets stronger as more pain is inflicted. But after a certain point the pain is no longer felt and he continues to get stronger the more damage his body takes. He could do some serious damage in a big fight with any person or persons... Wait, again, his mind racing with things that it shouldnt be racing with, he's a freak, not a Super Powered Being, a FREAK, plain and simple.

"Be glad you've had an uninteresting life," Meld said with a light laugh. "Uninteresting means uncomplicated and there are definitely times when I wish my life were a little less complicated." Mostly she sometimes wished she could walk around unnoticed like she used to. She wasn't ashamed of what she was, never that, but there were times when she wished she didn't have to deal with the constant stares and jeers, times when she wished she could...well...be human again. And be able to feel again....She loved what she was, loved that she was, so obviously, better than any mere human, but there was a simplicity to her life before her mutation had manifested, a simplicity that she sometimes missed. Sitting across the table from her old friend, the one person she had been closest with as a child, reminded her strongly of that past time and everything she had lost since discovering that she was a mutant. It made her long for her lost humanness with a strength that she hadn't felt since the early days of discovering her powers.
"You don't need to be ashamed," Meld stated strongly. "You have nothing be ashamed of." It made her angry to think how humans had brainwashed so many mutants to be ashamed of who and what they were and made it even more angry to know that they had brainwashed her best friend to think that way. Angry and a little sad as well. She had been there, through a brief period of self loathing when her powers first developed, but it hadn't lasted. Maybe it was because she had known about Nick's being a mutant years before her own mutation had shown itself, but it hadn't taken her long to come to terms with being a mutant and, more than that, embrace it. All the difficulties in her life were because of the prejudice of humans, not because of her status as a mutant or the actions of any mutants. It was they're fault not hers. It saddened her to think that her closest friend wasn't even able to accept what he was without a certain amount of self loathing. She hoped she might be able to show him how wonderful his gifts truly were. She hadn't been able to in the past because she hadn't understood then, but now she did understand; she understood better than any mere human possibly could.
"Of course you'd be welcome at Sanctuary," Aris said, trying to be reassuring. "All mutants are. But you don't have to stay there. You're lucky in a way, you can pass for human, meaning it'll be easy for you to find a place to stay." She couldn't quite keep the sorrow out of her voice. "I'd offer to help you find an apartment or something but I'd probably do more harm than good." She shrugged as if it were no big deal. She knew how Nick felt about being a mutant though and understand why he might not want to live at Sanctuary with her. In time she hoped to change his mind, but it wouldn't do any good to push him.
At that moment it was Meld's greatest desire to be able to help Nick. She had been able to do so little all those years ago when he had come to her in confidence, confused and afraid that he might have been a mutant. There was little she could do other than provide support as his friend. Little she had known how to do. It was different now; she was different now and she was determined to make up to him what she perceived as a grievous failure on her part.
"Well, I might think about Sanctuary but I dunno... I've got some money, like I said, and I could get some kind of job doing something... I dont know why you'd have a problem getting a place though, you look great." Nick smiled lightly, not even noticing the differences to her appearance in complete honesty. "We can work something out... I'll think about Sanctuary... Maybe I should see it first before I make any decisions? I mean that'd be the best thing... Right?" Nick smiled as he stood up from his chair slowly and grabbed his belongings, strapping the duffel over his shoulder and hoisting the suitcase to his back with a couple of straps fashioned from cord.
Nick waits a few moments, helping Aris out of her chair before grabbing his drink and opening the door to the coffee shop, letting Aris lead the way to this 'Sanctuary'. "So... How long did it take you to get here from when I called? That way I know how long I have to hold in my stomach for..." Nick laughs lightly, as he sucks in his stomach dramatically, trying to 'look good' for the cute girl. Nick quickly let out his held breath with a laugh and sigh of relief before bringing his Sobe up and twisting the top off of it, taking a sip quickly. He then proceeds to replace the lid and shove it into his jacket pocket for safe keeping. "So really now... What kind of job do you think I could get out here? I mean.. I will need money to be able to do stuff right?"
"I've got enough saved up to survive for a month, maybe two if I cut back on things a bit... But longer than that and I'm gonna run out of money... So I guess I need money and I need it quick..." Nick sighed as he looked around himself on the way to the Sanctuary. He never really could tell which of the two of them was the Leader and which was the follower. Both came up with good ideas and set plans into motion and both just went with the flow as well from time to time. One day, Aris would come up with some amazing idea to go do something stupid, the next day it would be Nick's turn to pick the amazing idea to do something stupid. All Nick could really think about at this point was NOT thinking about his past or his issues with himself. He liked to keep himself occupied with life, trying to keep busy just so he didnt have time to really stop and think about anything, especially not his standing on himself or anyone else 'like' him.

"...I don't know why you'd have a problem getting a place though, you look great." Meld gave her old friend a dumbfounded look and then started blushing. He didn't realize...? No that couldn't be it, he must just be trying to make her feel better about being a freak. Well, a freak in his mind anyway. Aris laughed and gave him another quick hug. "My flesh melds are nothing that I'm ashamed of, Nick. Many humans have a problem with them but that's not my fault or my problem. That's there issue to deal with! I'm glad you have some money saved up though, and like I said, you can pass for human so I don't think it'll be hard for you to find a place to stay or a place to work" She was happy that her friend didn't have to deal with much of the crap that she did.
Meld waited in her chair for Nick to help her out of it, remembering from their past that he still adhered to the whole chivalry thing. He was, perhaps, the only guy that she would allow to do so for her, but she couldn't help but indulge her best friend a little. She grinned softly to herself remember all the good times they had shared, and a few of the not so good times. "Sanctuary's not far at all," Meld replied, "only about 15 minutes away. As far as what you can do...well, this is New York so what do you want to do?" She laughd at his little display of tucking in his stomach.
"So I guess I need money and I need it quick..." Meld only knew of a few ways to get money fast and all of them involved illicit activities. Just today she had been contacted about doing a bank heist to help with her own money problems, but she didn't yet know the details of that little adventure. She wasn't sure that that sort of thing was exactly what Nick had in mind when speaking of needing money quickly. She wasn't sure he would approve of her being involved in that sort of thing at all but given her situation she had little choice in the matter. "I don't think you really want the kind of advice I have to offer on the acquisition of money," Meld said finally.
Exiting the coffee shop Meld glared and growled at the staring cashier. Sometimes she wished she could just hit people like that. How would they like to be stared at and thought of as freaks wherever they went? She managed to restrain herself, however, and began making her way back to Sanctuary.
The two continued their short hike towards the Sanctuary, mainly for observation purposes for Nick to see if he'd be ok staying at a place like the Sanctuary. "Well... I guess I can just look for a job or something... Wonder if there are any liquor stores hiring for cashiers or something... I'll have to look, but I should probably get settled somewhere before I even start doing that..." Nick sighed lightly, his eyes on a constant move, scanning his surroundings.
"Hey you!" Nick was surprised by a hand shooting out of one of the alleys and grabbing him and Aris and pulling them into the dark New York City Alley. "What're you doing walking around with something like this, boy?" A tall gangly guy with a Hoody on and a knife in hand stared at Nick while 3 more people moved in to almost corner the two.
"She's my friend, what do you think I'm doing? We're walking... And you interrupted us... So excuse us please..." Nick turned to walk away from the man and he was stopped by a hand on his chest from the guy that moved in behind them, cutting them off from the sidewalk. He flipped out a knife and pushed on Nicks shoulder, spinning him around to face the apparent leader of the group.
"I dont like your tone, boy... Maybe we should teach you and your freak her... A lesson..."
"What'd you call her?" Nick growled as he stepped forward, almost daring the thug to do something to him.
"I called her a freak..." The thug laughs and quickly yanks his hand to the side and slams the blade of the knife down into the shoulder of Nick who lets out a cry of pain before falling to a knee, holding his shoulder. "What..." The thug puts a boot to the shoulder of Nick. "Are you...." He pushes him to his back. "Going to do about it?" The thug and his goons all laugh lightly as Nick holds onto his shoulder, with the knife still in it.
"I'll show you..." Nick grabs the handle of the Knife and twists it in his shoulder sharply, pain shooting through his body before disappearing as he can feel himself getting stronger and faster. He then jumps up and grabs the leader by the throat abruptly, "Now, apologize!" As Nick says this, one of the thugs swings a 2x4 at him, slamming it into his back. Nick's body flinches only because of the impact and Nick growls before throwing the leader off down the alley, sending him slamming into a dumpster, before he turns his attention to the rest of the man that swung the 2x4 on him, hoping Aris can handle herself, almost knowing she can.

"I'm sure there are probably plenty of liquor stores hiring," Meld said. She was enjoying their walk back to Sanctuary. It was a peaceful night and just the right night to make walking pleasant; not too cold but not too hot either. Plus, it wasn't raining and having come from Vancouver not raining on a spring night was still felt like a bit of an oddity.
"Hey you!" Meld was startled out of her revere by a very angry sounding voice. Great, this was exactly what she didn't need right now. She didn't want anyone to ruin this reunion, especially not a group of anti mutant bastards. Meld growled under her breath and swore as she was pulled into the alley. She tore the glove off of her left hand, unveiling her bladed metallic hand.
"She's my friend, what do you think I'm doing? We're walking... And you interrupted us... So excuse us please..." Meld couldn't help but appreciate such innocence in defending her but with people like she knew that reason wouldn't make any difference at all. She had been in this situation before, seen the carnage that it left. Someone was going to get hurt here, it was unavoidable. They just had to ensure that it was the human thugs that ended up bloody and broken, and not the two of them.
"I dont like your tone, boy... Maybe we should teach you and your freak her... A lesson..." Aris watched horrified as one of the thugs stabbed Nick before she even had a chance to respond and another proceeded to kick him. "I'll show you what this freak can do," She yelled, charging the thug with the knife.
The human managed to dodge her first attack, stabbing at Meld clumsily with his knife. Aris blocked with her metal arm, returning the strike with a punch of her own. She caught him in the mouth, causing blood to fly along with, she was pretty sure, a tooth. "Get that freak!" the thug yells angrily. Meld grins and spin kicks in the head with one of her metal feet, sending him careening to the ground, unconscious.
Aris turns around just quickly enough to lift her hand and block the brunt of the impact of a baseball bat aimed at her head by a second thug. She growls again, waiting for him to attempt to strike her a second time with the bat.
Nick growls to himself and looks at the man with the 2x4 before laughing and bringing his hands up giving him the 'bring it on' motion. The thug swings high, slamming the 2x4 into the head of Nick and Nick barely even budges, letting out another laugh. "That's all you got? Here..." Nick grabs the knife out of his shoulder and tosses it to the thug in front of him. "Use it... Go ahead...."
The man stumbles with the knife in his hand and looks at Nick, lunging forward, aiming to slit his throat but Nick ducks under the knife swipe and punches the man in the stomach, sending him flying straight up. As the man is coming down, Nick kicks forward and slams his boot into the chest of the already beaten man and sends him crashing into the brick wall behind him. Nick dusts his hands off and turns to see Aris handling herself quite well in her portion of the fight. Nick can't help but intervene when he sees the baseball bat flying at Aris and he reaches out quickly and yanks the bat away from the man and cracks it easily in half over his knee.
Nick then takes a step back and smiles and nods to Aris before allowing the fight to continue. "People should learn not to hit ladies... Especially considering the lady walking me home safely knows Martial Arts." Nick laughs lightly, watching Aris quickly dispatch of the thug. "Now... Shall we get moving again?" Nick wasn't really paying attention to himself, already having forgotten about the knife that was previously in his shoulder. His body waiting to send agony to his brain as soon as his adrenaline stops pumping.

Meld stands, battle ready, waiting for the baseball bat to come flying towards her head a second time. Instead, however, she sees Nick grab the bat and break it over his knee. The only thug still on his feet stands there stunned for a moment and then tries to make a break for it. "I don't think so," Meld grins sadistically and begins running after him. No mere human could reasonably expect to escape her and he barely gets a few steps before Meld grabs him from behind, her clawed hand wrapped around his neck, the barbs digging into his throat. She squeezes her hand tighter listening to his chocked gasps for breath and watching 5 small trickles of blood make their way down his neck.
"This is you're fault," Meld yells at her victim. "Its because of your type that mutants are forced to live in fear. Its because of you that mutants loath and hate themselves. Your actions bring about your own demise. Its us or its you and its damn well not going to be you." She squeezes harder, intoxicated by the power of having a life at her fingertips and by the fervor of her recently found convictions. She had never killed before, at least not deliberately or with certainty, but her life had a new meaning now, a new purpose. And the world world be a better place without this piece of human scum, wouldn't it?
"You and your kind don't deserve to live. You are human scum. You are nothing, you are less than nothing!" His face began to turn blue from the lack of oxygen. Still Meld didn't let go. Everything other than this struggle of human life and death was put out of her mind, even forgetting about Nick. This was what she was meant to do, this was doing something for her people, eliminating one more bigoted threatening human from the face of the world. In a small way, his death would make life for all mutants better. And slowly, with every human death to follow, one small fraction at a time, she would improve mutant life everywhere.
Nick sees Aris with her hand around the throat of the thug, his heart agreeing with everything she's saying and wanting to do but his mind tells him different. Suddenly he snaps out of his stupor and runs over to Aris, grabbing her by the shoulder and pulling her away from the thug. The man drops near lifeless to the concrete in the alley and Nick looks at Aris, the fire burning in her eyes. "Let's uh... Go..." Nick goes to walk out of the alley and stops, turning around to face his old friend.
"What you said there... Is that really the way you feel about humans? I mean... Do you think it's their fault?" Nick's face turns to a blank expression as his mind races with possibilities. His parents and Aris' parents always complained about the 'Mutant Problem' never taking a second to actually try to get some information for themselves. Maybe it wasnt always the mutants starting the fights, maybe the humans were provoking them... No, it couldnt be, mutants are freaks and humans are well.... Humans. Simple as that, right? Or is it really that simple? Nick sighs lightly, shooting his gaze to Aris and looking at her a little confused, not really knowing what to think anymore.
How would Aris be now if she hadnt had to run away? Would she still be Pro-Freak, or would she be Anti-Mutant? She'd have her abilities but would she be like him, or would she be better? How would Nick be if Aris hadnt run away? Would he still be hidden? Or would he be fighting the good fight? Doing something with his life... Something more than just nothing. These are questions and thoughts that would race through the mind of any person in the position Nick was currently in. However with Nick, these thoughts were almost constantly on his mind and he could never shake them nor get the answer to the questions.
