The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"You know, if you wanted a hug, you could of asked for one." He stated, then stuck his tongue out at her, following that with a smirk. "Alrighty, wandering for a quiet spot it is then." He bent his knees slightly and looped his arm behind her legs, and lifted her off her feet. "Hope you don't mind m'lady Victoria." He said, then carried her down the stairs. He felt that this was much nicer than how he had previously carried her. He directed their path down the hallway on the main floor and towards a door that would take them outside. "Door please?" He asked, seeing that his arms were already full.
"Now then. Garden, courts, or pool? Certainly the quietest spot would be in the garden. So then, where to begin, eh?"
Victoria laughed as Raphael scooped her up in his arms. Chivalry wasn't dead afterall. "The garden sounds lovely." She smiled as she wrapped her arms around his neck and they descended down the staircase. As the walked the flight of steps, Victoria was able to take a moment to think about what was happening. Raphael had extended more kindness and genuine interest in her than most people she had met. Most people in her life wanted something from her, but he didn't seem that way. She hoped that this wouldn't be a friendship like that, she wanted this developing relationship with him to be beyond the superficial as it was turning out to be.
When they reached the door, Victoria released one of her hands from around Raphael's neck and reached down to the handle. A part of her wished that she could just have the two of them just walk through thr door, both demonstrating and having fun with her powers. Being unable to control her powers to that degree, Victoria settled for the door handle.
"Sir Raphael?" She smiled as the door swung open and she motioned her hand outwards. "The garden is all yours."
Sir? He had only been called 'Sir Deltoid' a couple of times in the ring. And then he did not like it, and now he did not like how his servants in Virginia had referred to him as 'Master Raphael'. But hearing Victoria say it made it sound pleasant, noble even. He liked it, and smiled at the title; and at her. "The garden is our's." He responded to her last comment.
He began walking out into the afternoon sun, carrying her briskly from the backdoor to the gardens. He had spent a good deal of his beginning days at the mansion in these very gardens, almost as much time here as inside; and had subsequently committed much of them to memory as well. They reminded him of his life before he discovered his mutation. He still enjoyed that life, even if he looked down on his former self. The discovery of his mutation had changed his outlook on life, and others. A change he now considered better. While thinking back on this, his feet had carried him and Victoria to one of the more secluded sections of the garden he knew of.
He gently set her down on grass that seemed softer than the rest. The flowers in this section well in bloom, and a good variety displayed their beautiful petals here; as well as four sections of hedge also rose slightly higher than in most other places, giving them a whee bit more privacy than out in the open, or near a place with shorter hedges.
"The best way I know to teach is to answer questions Miss Victoria." He says, setting himself down beside her. "Ask and I shalt answer." He smiled warmly, every now and again he knew how to talk as a proper englishman, though chose not to frequently. He set his hand gently over her's on the grass, and waited her answer.
Victoria was surprised and a bit uncomfortable when Raphael didn't set her down after the left the mansion because she wasn't used to that sort of treatment. Instead of dwelling on something kind and romantic that he was doing for her, Victoria looked around at the grounds. It was a beautiful garden area that seemed to go on forever. It was a good time of year; the flowers were in full bloom and were dazzling brightly in the sun.
Once Raphael set Victoria down in the soft grass, she smiled at him thankfully. She absent-mindedly scratched at her leg where the blades of grass crept and touched bare skin at her ankle. Looking around, she suddenly realized that despite still being on the grounds and being in the beautiful garden, they were well secluded in a mostly private area.
Her attention was suddenly brought back to Raphael when he spoke to her, carrying on their teacher-student conversation from minutes before. "It's questions you want?" Victoria rose her pierced eyebrow at him as she drew her legs up to cross underneath her. She picked up Raphael's hand in both of hers and mindlessly played with it, entwining her fingers through his and tumbing his palm. Leaning over, Victoria rested her elbows on her knees as she continuted to hold onto his hand with hers, thinking about what sort of question she could start with. "So," she sent a wicked smile his way "what IS it you do, exactly?" There were so many ways she could go with that question, but she chose a tamer version of waht she could have said. Her eyes drifted between their hands and Raphael's eyes as she wondered what he would tell her.
Up until he found out about this place, promised Benny one last fight, and walked out... He'd fought in an underground bare knuckle boxing ring; even if it was a little rougher than most. He thought about how to properly answer this question. It certainly would be a step towards his darker side. "I take it you mean, in the current." He states carefully, eyes drifting from her to his hand that she plays with. "Hopefully study soon... Tricity mentioned education opportunities 'round the mansion, anda agreement with NYU near by." He smiled a little bit, then returned his eyes to her's. "Though I need to finish up a bitta business in the city that I used to do. Made a promise to a 'friend'... nothing major." He continued, nodding, more to himself than anyone else. He knew that Benny would arrange the roughest fight for one of his top contenders. "But right now, I like to look towards the future, which is bright. And getting brighter, since after you stepped into it."
Raphael's hand gently squeezed hers', "Need more detail on the subject?" He asked, offering a smile. "I can elaborate some if you need, or we can move onto other questions." Part of him hoped for the latter, and part of him hoped for the former. Talking about the past couple years of his life would certainly take a bit off his chest, though, he was not entirely sure he was ready to do so.
Victoria nodded her head when Raphael asked for what she wanted to know. She watched him intently as he spoke noticing something more that was hiding beneath the surface. She wasn't going to probe him about it, especially since he really didn't seem that willing to talk about it.
"No." Victoria said softly and simply when he asked if she wanted more. She shifted her spot on the grass so she sat closer to his side, half laying down. Propping herself up appropriately on her elbow, she twisted a blade of grass between her finger tips. "But I hope that you'll take me with you." she blushed thinking that he found her more important now and wanted to express the same, but not overly so.
"I...I need to go to a hotel and pick up my suitcases. I've been in a hotel since I arrived in America. All my things are still there." She partly wanted to get her things, but she also wanted to be able to spend some time with Raphael outside of the mansion walls. There would be prying eyes while they were still in and around the building, she figured.
After pausing a moment, looking at the crushed blade in her fingers, she rose her gaze back to Raphael's. "Is there anything else you wanted to tell me?"
Raphael directed his gaze towards the ground for a moment. Take her with him to his final fight? He did not think she would enjoy such a trip; though his mind did not entirely control his mouth at times. "Sure." His answer was short and simple.
He listened to Victoria stammer through wanting to go to her hotel room. "How long have you been stateside?" He asked, he honestly did not want to get up and go just yet. He was enjoying the weather, and her company there in the garden, or anywhere really. But going back to the city meant finding a ride... Calling a cab, hitch-hiking, or walking.
For now, he let himself lay back entirely. "Tomorrow sound good? It is getting late in the day to find a ride back into the city." His hand felt out for her's again as he watched the sky. "Would you think less of me, if I weren't quite everything I appear to be?" He asked in response to her next question. There certainly were things he wanted to tell her, though he feared she would walk. That part of him wanted him to maintain secrets. The other portion felt sharing such things would bring them closer, a certain reality he also distinctly wanted. He chose to go with his gut, based on her next answer.
Victoria smiled when he agreed to take her with him. It would be nice to get out in public again and not have to worry about her powers with Raphael watching over her.
"There's no need to rush off now." Victoria absent-mindedly picked at a few blades of grass again. "Tomorrow sounds fine." She smiled and watched Raphael as he lay back. Her cheeks grew rosy as indecent thoughts ran through her mind about his current posture. Her mind was soon taken back to the present moment as he posed a personal question to her. It seemed fair and obvious to her that it wouldn't affect her no matter what kind of person Raphael claimed to be. Victoria just hoped that the one she was with now was the true Raphael.
"How could I think less of you? I don't think anyone is as they appear to be." Victoria rolled over onto her stomach next to Raphael, propping herself up on her elbows and allowing her purple ponytail to drape over her shoulder. "See, not even me!" She blew at the wisp of her bangs that fell from being tucked behind her ear. "Then again..." She thought with a smile. "I can't quite be everything I appear to be...I can become invisible!" Victoria chuckled. Maybe there was more to each others story, but she was willing to take anything he told her with an open mind and an open heart.
Raphael smiled as he listened to Victoria speak. He swept his hands up through the soft grass and underneath his head, and thought about how best to proceed. His smile faded, as the grimmer parts of his past came to the forefront of his mind; and to think, he had so pleasantly distracted himself... with Victoria's help.
"I don't mean physically Victoria..." He started softly. "Honestly enough, I even get the feeling my healing is beginning to effect my agin'." He continued, then pulled himself back on track.
"I'm not a good guy. Quite far from it, and certainly not the 'hero' that the other guy labeled me as." He stared up at the sky as he spoke, watching clouds pass by. His currently quasi-dismal mind making grim shapes out of them: a skull and crossbones... a shambling corpse... his brother in agony. "See...... I don't think yah really wanna see my previous.... business... its not pretty... I've hurt people in it. I am a murderer because of it." The word 'Murderer' rolled off his tongue without much emotion, he treated it as a label. "An' to be entirely honest... I didn't feel any guilt over it till jus' now. Now when it may jeopardize my relationship with you. Before..." He shrugged. "And before that... even before I ran off from the boarding school... I was a bully. I picked on other kids. Never felt a drop of guilt over that either... only thing I ever did feel guilty over, and genuinely sorry for, was nearly killin' mah brother." He stated, eyes ever more fixated on the sky, part of him wanting to turn his gaze to her, the other steadfastly keeping his gaze fixed upwards.
"I'm not quite wha' I seem to be... Though... To be friends with yah..." he stopped a moment, then shook his head. "To possibly be more than just friends with yah... its something I've gotta get offa my chest. There's more to my grim background... these are just the surface bits.... the worst bits..." His voice trailed off as he waited to hear her get up and walk away, true pessimism poking through. "Sure you want to be with me?" His last words came out barely louder than a whisper.
Victoria shook her head silently. This wasn't quite what she had in mind for their conversation, but she was willing to accept anything he told her. Listening to Raphael describe himself and his past, her lips pursed and twisted as she processed it all.
When he finished, a small smile crept across her mouth. She suddenly raised herself up, and shifted her torso so that she half lay across Raphael's chest. "You don't have to be hero." She stated simply. "No one is perfect and I don't expect you to be, no matter what your past was like." She surprised herself with how well she was accepting Raphael; perhaps the attraction she felt towards him ran deeper than she realized. "You're not that person now, are you?" She posed the question, tilting her head slighty to the side, trying to match her eyes with his.
Victoria reached out one hand and brushed her fingertips at his hairline. "As little as I know about being a mutant, I have realized that the world is hard on people like us." Her stomach lurched when she related the near death of Raphael's brother to the death of her own father. "No matter what we do...what we've done." She spoke softly. The past was the past, there was no reason to hold onto regrets. "Forget what happened before. This school is a new life, right? Why not take it up on that offer?"
Victoria tried to be as supportive as she could be, despite the violent past Raphael had experienced. She wasn't out to change him, but at least she could help him feel better about his current situation and realize that life isn't as bad as it may always seem.
Raphael blinked a little bit in surprise at Victoria's sudden motion of affection. Her weight across his chest pleasant, and unexpected. He most certainly enjoyed the gesture, especially the fact that it was the opposite of what his pessimism had predicted. He listened quietly to what she had to say, his hands moving from supporting his head so he could wrap his arms around her. "Not entirely..." He stated quietly in response to her first question, his eyes drifting from the sky to her's. "I still have that last bit o' business... other than..." He shook his head a little bit. "I see violence in the future... but... its not the same. I wouldn't describe myself as the same... not entirely atleast."
A smile crested his lips as Victoria's fingers brushed at his hairline. He certainly enjoyed the affection she showed him, especially after his confessional. He continued to listen to her quietly, his arms tightening slightly. He thought for a moment, then nodded. He certainly wanted to begin anew here, but he could not forget, or ignore his past; for his past was part of what made him what he was today. "Can't forget 'bout what happened before Victoria..." He answers, carefully, and matching her soft tone. "Nor would I seek to do so. I ain't perfect, an' don't mean to try to be. Though you're right, this is a new start... and I intend to follow that through... Was jus' worried. Deep gutteral fear o' loosin' who I call my first friend here." He gave her a soft hug at that. "Though at the same time, I couldn't keep it from her, or lie to her 'bout it. Y'know? Gotta come clean. But certainly, an attempt at a new life here at the mansion is what I intend to try to accomplish." He said with an affirmative nod.
"Sorry my 'lesson' turned into a 'confession' Victoria." He said quietly, though honestly doubted she deep down she truely minded it. "Shall we try to move on?"
Victoria smiled at Raphael when he wrapped his arms around her. She felt like he was loosening up from his pessimistic views, if at least to just live in the moment. Raphael had made himself vulnerable to Victoria in his deep confession to her, and she wasn't going to shun him for it. Instead, she showed him the support that she would any friend, and moreso with Raphael because she hoped that it could be something more.
The smile she had playing on her lips spread as Raphael continued on with an aspect of hope evident in his words and his arms tightening around her. "No one can forget their past, Raph." She brushed her hand down the side of his face and then rested it on his chest. Her mind wandered again to her father, knowing that she was the cause of his death wasn't comforting to her, but she was comforting Raphael, not herself. "Live in the moment," She smiled softly at him, their eyes meeting. "Confess all you want, Raph, I'll be here to listen." Victoria paused, briefly letting out a tense-filled sigh as she considered stepping further and kissing Raphael. Trying to let the moment pass, she watched his expression, starting to learn his face and understand him better. "That's what friends are for, right?"
"Live in the moment." He murmured softly, repeating after her, as his eyes drifted up to the sky for but a moment, then back down to meet her's. He was ever more enjoying the feel of her laying ontop of him, relaxing again. Finding his dark thoughts fading once more from the forefront of his mind. He felt comforted by her presence, her affection. Her understanding.
"Confess all I want, eh?" He says quietly, mentally making note of the tense-filled sigh Victoria emitted. "How's about taking a step back towards the flirtatious nature eh?" He smiled, and while not every care was gone from his mind, for he certainly worried about the violence he might bring to Victoria's life, his smile was one that gave the impression he did not have a care in the world outside of her for the moment. "I confess that I believe I may be falling for you Victoria."
He continued to smile, watching her. Her expression, her body movements, her hand on his chest, the way her supple feminine rested ontop of his muscular masculine form; even if only partly. And he simply enjoyed it. "You look as though you've something you wish to do. Or confess." He says, quiet and simple, then waits, a small smirk at the corner of his mouth; their previous conversation still in his mind, though pushed back for a more appropriate time. Now, he had decided, was the time to merely enjoy Victoria's presence, and drink in her attractive form, and the attention she chose to bestow on him.
And to simply enjoy his 'new life', rather than dwell on the old.
"Who, me?" a playful smirk curled up in the corner of Victoria's mouth. She pulled herself off of Raphael and sat next to him, her legs crossed as she sat at his side. "Maybe there is, maybe there isn't." Victoria intently looked at Raphael's mouth as he had spoke to her the entire time.
Furrowing her brow, Victoria took her right hand and held it in front of her. Drifting her eyes to the back of her hand, she consentrated. She wiggled her fingers as a tingling sensation ran through them and up to the wrist, her hand turned invisible. In a jolt of triumph, Victoria smiled, keeping her eyes focused as she carefully pulled her hand towards Raphael's face. Exchanging glances between him and her hand, she began to reach towards him. "This shouldn't hurt." She said flatly as her hand grew closer.
Her mind flitted back to the moment when her father had died. It was the first time she had become aware of her ability to pass through objects. He had hugged her in a loving moment and as she relaxed in his arms, she passed through his body. It had triggered a heart attack and he died soon after. It was then that she became afraid of her powers.
Now with Raphael, Victoria felt at ease with being a mutant. Her mind still on her desires and consentration on her hand, Victoria carefully passed her hand, which now flickered in and out of invisibility, through Raphael's lips and mouth, tracing her fingers through as she felt the depths of his flesh and bone passing through her fingertips.
"What do you think is on my mind?" She looked up at him after her hand was through and lay folded in her lap. Her eyebrow cocked at him as if he should already know.
"Yes you." He responded, then watched her rise up from laying on him. His arms drifted easily from around her as she rose. He let his own hands drift down to his sides. He fell quiet, watching her, and smiling enjoying her personal truimph over her power.
He watched silently from where he lay next to her. "What shouldn't hurt?" He asked, eyebrows furrowing slightly, then watched her hand pass down through his lips and mouth. He shivered slightly at first, her hand tingled as it passed through him. He felt... odd. A pleasant odd, as though she were getting to know him to the deepest extent.
"I would imagine that you'd like something a bit more intimate." He stated, taking a deep breath after her hand was through. "A kiss, deep hug, something... given your actions recently. Either option quite pleasant, am I reading you correctly?" He quirked an eyebrow, finding himself, despite her recent invasion of his most private of space, liking her evermore.
Victoria gave Raphael a screwed up expression at his blatant suggestion. She pursed her lips to the side and rose one brow as she crossed her arms over her chest. "Well that's not awfully romantic when you say it like that!" she let out a short laugh, amused and slightly dissapointed. She had always wanted the man that would sweep her off her feet. Although, she gave him points for being honest. "What happened to teasing the girl into giving her what she wanted?"
Victoria swung her legs around so that she sat on them and leaned over Raphael. Her hair fell around her shoulders and she swept it to one side while she gave him another curious look. "You're not into the chase are you?" She reached out and flicked the tip of his nose playfully with her fingertip. She was amused by Raphael, attracted to his rugged looks and his honest nature, but in that moment she had been hoping for something more. A fairy tale romance wasn't possible, but he could at least be her prince charming.
