The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Lee turned against him and Tarin kissed her back automatically when she kissed him and moved the arm that was behind her to toy with her hair as she pulled back to talk to him. She was still really close. Tarin wondered if she knew that she was really close while she was talking. Hadn't they just decided that they were going to stop doing things like that? Things that were going to make him want to drag her off to a secluded alcove. The mansion had to be full of them, secluded little alcoves that nobody would think to look in, that probably went for weeks without anyone poking their head in.
Oh yeah. They were talking about him being a creep.
Only, apparently they weren't. Slightly displeased with himself for misreading Lee's tease. Tarin shrugged his shoulders with a slightly sheepish look shadowing his face. "I guess you only treated me that way once...and I deserved it...because I was being a creep." Lee was so close, Tarin couldn't help himself. He kissed her. "And you like it when I'm a perv."
Tarin really couldn't help himself, and Lee had turned, practically laying her body out next to his, he wrapped his other arm around her and kissed her yet again. The heart monitor registered the jump in his heart rate and he couldn't help but chuckle, "That's going to get irritating." he said against Lee's lips, then jerked on the wires until they came away. Unfortunately that didn't help matters, when the nodes couldn't read his heart rate any more the alarm started going off.
"For the love of freakin' god." Tarin muttered, irritated, then dropped his head onto Lee's shoulder. "I don't know how much longer I can stay in this place. Two more days...I'm only waiting two more days...I don't care if you have to wheel me off somewhere in a damn wheelchair. I'm only waiting two more days."
The last was said just in time for one of the medical staff to come running around the corner with Doc Prof in tow. "I know...I know..." Tarin said, his voice muffled by Lee's shoulder. They could deal with it, he wasn't letting go of her either. "I'm sick of that damn thing anyway." he said, moving his arm from around Lee just long enough to wave dismissively at the heart monitor before wrapping it back around her, "I keep telling you I'm fine."
Lee nodded when it apparently clicked in to Tarin's mind what she had been saying. Good, he was finally understanding that. And then he was kissing her again.
That had been the big thing missing over the last month. If there was one thing she had missed most, other than Tarin simply being awake, it would have been these little kisses. Lee knew that they touched a lot, just small, casual touches that most people wouldn't have really even noticed, but she hadn't realized just how often they kissed like this during the day until she wasn't able to kiss him, he wasn't able to kiss her.
"And of course I love you being a perv," Lee pointed out, her tone suggesting that it should be more than obvious. Well really, shouldn't it? Tarin's moments of perviness hadn't exactly lessened since that first day they had met in Central Park, after all, so if she hadn't come to like them, even Lee didn't see how she would have managed to stay with Tarin half as long as she had. "Though, I like it more when-"
Lee nearly bit her tongue she stopped speaking so fast. Hadn't they just said how they needed to stop talking like that? So her saying that wearing the cowboy hat only made those pervy moments even better certainly would not help matters.
"Sorry," Lee said, a slight blush covering her cheeks. "I got a little carried aw..." Her words trailing off as Tarin started to kiss her again, his arms wrapping around her. And even though she had just been apologizing for almost saying something that would have been too suggestive when Tarin was still so tired and weak, Lee's body simply reacted as she felt him kissing her.
At least she had been simply reacting until she heard the heart monitor alarm going off. Well, then she simply reacted as well, but in a very different way. Pulling back from the kiss, Lee jumped, and would have jumped right off the bed if it hadn't been for Tarin's arms still being around her.
As the alarm was going off, Lee felt Tarin's head burying slightly into her shoulder and muttering about only two more days. Before she was able to reply, though, there were people there. DocProf was there, practically glaring at her for laying on Tarin's bed with him.
Tarin was being more than stubborn now as the medical staff were shutting off the alarm, checking Tarin out, and hooking him back up to the monitor. Well, they were trying to, he was being stubborn about it. "Come on, Tarin," Lee said softly, nudging him gently. "I know you think you're fine, but just go along with it for another day or two? At least until you're able to get up and move around?"

"Uh..there's no such thing as carried away..." Tarin said against Lee's lips when she apologized for taking her comment too far. God, now he just wanted to know more, she liked it better when he did what. This was getting impossible. Abso-friggen-lutely impossible. Lee was reacting, definitely not worrying about him being too fragile now, and Tarin was feeling anything but fragile. Fragile was the last thing in his mind.
Tarin had wondered just how long he'd be able to get away with what was currently happening in his hospital bed and just how far he'd be able to take it before someone caught on. The heart monitor had done it and now he had a doctor and a couple other medical staff in his room, glaring at him like he'd broken some kind of law.
Lee had tried to pull away when the heart alarm started going off, but Tarin had tightened his arms and she'd stayed where she was. That was good thing, because if she’d have moved at that moment, Tarin would have brought down the house. As it was, he wasn’t happy, not happy at all. It didn’t make sense why after a month of doing nothing, Doc felt the need to tread Tarin like he was some sort of invalid now that he was fine. That was fricken’ backwards and it made no sense.
Lee pointed out that while he might think he was fine, it would probably be a good idea for him to go along with what the doctor wanted for a day or two. Lee wanted him to lay around like he was half dead too. That was good. No, that was awesome. Tarin wasn’t going to take it out on Lee though, Lee was just worried about him, and she’d done everything she could to help him while he’d been out.
“For you Lee, I will put up with this BS for another couple of days…and only until I think I’m ready to get up and move around.” He said, kissing her soundly one more time before turning to the doctor. “You though, don’t look at my wife that way. She wouldn’t be here if I didn’t want her here…and I want her here.” He shot a glare at the man one more time before reluctantly letting him hook the heart monitor back up.
“I still don’t understand though, why everyone keeps insisting that there’s something wrong with me. There was never anything wrong with me physically…and there still isn’t. I’m right as rain as soon as I get these stupid muscles working again.”
No such thing as getting carried away? That might be true in most cases, but Lee didn't think it really was right now. Not that she was really having that thought for long as Tarin started kissing her again...
And, now, Tarin wasn't all that happy any more. Not with her siding with the Doc about the heart monitor. "I'm allowed to worry about this," Lee said, her tone telling Tarin that she was not going to change her mind about this while she kept it low so that it would be difficult for the others around the bed to hear her. "Your heart stopped before you woke up, Tarin. It stopped.
"So you're going to have to wear it, hon," Lee went on, her voice softening a bit as she spoke. "At least until I stop worrying so much, till you're able to get up and move around a bit. For me."
That was really all there was to it, at least as far as Lee was concerned. And it was a valid worry, even Tarin had to see that; his heart had stopped beating just the previous day.
Sitting up slightly, Lee looked over at DocProf now that the heart monitor seemed to be hooked up again properly.
"So are you done here, Doc?" Lee asked trying not to be pushy, but wanting to be alone with her husband again. "We're kind of in the middle of a conversation. I promise I'll make him keep those attached."

Lee pointed out that his heart had stopped the day before. Tarin winced slightly, it was something he was doing his absolute best not to think about. That didn’t have anything to do with anything, he told himself. That was simply the shock of him getting back into his body after so long being out of it. Nothing like that was going to happen now. Lee was shaken though.
Tarin looked at her, listened to the quiet intensity in her voice and his face softened and he gave her a gentle squeeze. It was easy to forget how difficult that must have been for her, not knowing if he was going to come out of it or not. Lee had no way of knowing that what Slate tried at worked. The conversation had been between the two of them. Lee was worrying, Lee always worried and Tarin nodded his head slowly, “I already said I’d put up with it for a few more days…for you.” He said with a small smile, “And that was just because of the shock…nothing is going to happen.”
Lee wanted him to stop fighting the monitor though, so he stopped complaining and glaring as the doc hooked up the wires and set the monitor to its regular beeping again. God that was irritating. What Lee did next made him smile though. She was effectively kicking the Doc out of their space.
“Yeah. We were having a conversation.” Tarin said with an arch grin.
Doc didn’t even say anything, he hadn’t really said anything since he walked in. The nonverbal communication had been enough to get his point across. Now he just rolled his eyes then stuffed his hands into the pockets of his white jacket as he turned around and left, muttering. Tarin turned to Lee and grinned, kissing her again.
“Now…what were we talking about?” he said, “If you’re sure my heart can take it.”
Tarin was agreeing with her, really agreeing, and Lee couldn't help the small sigh of relief. At least she wouldn't have to worry about that any more for the next couple days. He was sure that nothing was going to happen, though. At all.
"I'm sure you're right," Lee said softly. "But I'd just rather be on the safe side with this, hon."
DocProf wasn't arguing with her either. Mind you, he didn't look very happy at all, both because of what they had said to him, and probably by the fact that she was still laying on the bed with Tarin, but he wasn't arguing.
Was this her day, or what?
And then Doc and his assistants were leaving, and she was alone with Tarin once more.
"What were we talking about?" Lee asked, a smile spreading across her face once more. "I think we were talking about how we shouldn't be talking about certain things right now."
Sighing, Lee shifted around on the bed again. She was already practically laying down there, and Tarin's arms were around her, she may as well take advantage of that. So Lee finished laying down beside him, her head resting on his shoulder. "But how are you feeling?" Lee asked quietly after a few minutes of just lying there. This had been the longest he'd been awake since coming out of the coma, after all.

Tarin couldn't help but grin at Lee's concern. It was something that Tarin had never really expected to have in his life, someone to take care of him like Lee was now. Sure the worry could get a little smothering at times, but it was so worth it that he grinned and nodded. Besides, it was cute how she kind of hand waved his feelings on his own health in favor of her own opinion. It was worth it though if it would help Lee relax. After all, it wasn't hurting him to wear the heart monitor, just irritating.
The Doc was gone, and Lee responded to his question about their former topic of conversation exactly how Tarin had hoped she would. "Since when have we ever done things the way they should be done?" he said, then kissed his wife again. He wasn't quite done with all the kissing business anyway. He was an adult, he could control his baser instincts enough to kiss his wife for a while without taking it too far. Then again, with the way she kept turning and pressing up against him, it was getting more and more difficult.
Lee moved again, and now she was actually laying down next to him. Tarin couldn't think how easy it would be to simply roll a bit and then he'd be laying on her. Oh god. Maybe he wasn't mature enough to handle this many kisses with this much close contact after a month's forced celibacy.
Lee asked how he was feeling, and Tarin realized that he'd been staring at all that skin that the tank top Lee was waearing showed. It was like that last movie night they'd had. Alllll that skin, just for him. She had worn it for his birthday, after all. Staring wasn't helping though, and Lee had asked him a question. He chuckled and leaned over to kiss her again.
"Um. I'm going to avoid full disclosure on that question. Otherwise I'm going to be breaking our decision to not talk about things of a sexual nature. But if you're talking about how I feel as far as my ordeal was concerned. I'm feeling better than you'd probably expect. I'm a little tired, yeah, but seriously Lee. I think the fact that my body was really okay...and just getting a little weak, is going to make this a quick recovery."
Tarin just had to kiss her shoulder, it was too much to resist, then he snuggled against it, "What about you?" he said, looking up for a moment before nuzzling into her neck, "You've been cooped up in here without many people around for a long time. How are you holding up?"
Lee laughed when Tarin asked when had they ever done things the way they should? And it really was true, pretty much nothing in their relationship had been normal or traditional. But there was a reason why they shouldn't be doing so much kissing.
A reason Lee first forgot, and then remembered in full force as Tarin started kissing her again. And then forgot again after a second kiss while she was waiting for Tarin to answer her question.
Tarin said that he was probably feeling better than she expected, but that he was tired. Lee nodded against his shoulder. She was kind of expecting that tiredness, he had been sleeping quite a bit over the last day or so since Slate had put him back together.
And then he kissed her shoulder, causing her to shiver slightly before he asked how she was feeling. Lee closed her eyes and snuggles a bit closer to Tarin. "Yeah, I'm rather tired," Lee admitted after a couple moments of just laying there. "That chair wasn't exactly comfortable last night. What do you think about a nap?"

Lee was tired, Tarin had had a feeling that she would be. It had been a long time since she'd been around the kind of crowd that really put her in her element and even longer since she'd had enough close contact with him to get the energy she'd need to feel normal.
Truth be told, Tarin wasn't all that tired, but to this point Lee hadn't been a pain about her powers and the effect that she'd have on him if she stayed close to him for too long. Tarin was going to push that one as long as he could. Just touching Lee felt like a whole new experience now that he was awake. Her hair felt softer...her skin smoother...touching Lee had always been amazing...but it was almost better now.
A nap? Lee was suggesting a nap? Tarin honestly wasn't that tired, but if Lee was suggesting it...she must be. Wrapping his arms around her tighter, Tarin nodded against Lee's shoulder and reached for the little button that would make the bed horizontal, "Hold on..." he said wiht a grin as they started to recline until they were laying flat. "And I'm only agreeing to this on the condition that you don't go anywhere." He said, and leaned over to give his wife one more kiss.
That said, he snuggled into her even closer and closed his eyes, knowing that if Lee knew he wasn't really sleeping at that moment she'd never take him seriously. "Love you." he said in what he could only hope was a drowsy enough voice to be convincing.
Lee had suggested a nap, and at first all Tarin did was tighten his arms around her. Not that it was really tight, his muscles were still far too weak from lack of use for that, but it was tighter in comparison to how he had been holding her.
Yeah, Tarin had to know just how tired she was. The simple fact that she was suggesting a nap should tell him that. Not that the nap itself would help her be more awake afterward, but hopefully by having the nap there with him that would help.
Tarin had to know that, because without saying anything other than 'hold on' he was lowering the bed so it was horizontal once more. It was only once the bed stopped moving, and Tarin's hand that had been using the controls was holding her once more, that he gave her his one condition for them having a nap.
"I think that's fair," Lee replied after the kiss. Then she snuggled back down, getting comfortable beside Tarin, getting her head in the proper, most comfortable part of his shoulder, the smile still on her face that had sprung up when she heard his condition.
Now that she was actually letting herself drift, allowing herself to relax enough, it wasn't taking long for Lee to start falling asleep. She really hadn't slept all that much the previous night, and what sleep she had gotten hadn't been very good. Plus there was the fact that she really hadn't been around very many people at all in the previous 24 hours.
And then there was the fact that simply laying there with Tarin's arms around her was relaxing Lee to a point she hadn't felt in over a month.
So she was already more than half asleep that short time later when Tarin told her that he loved her. A tired smile crossing her face again, Lee hugged him, her forehead pressing against his neck. "Love you too," she whispered before falling asleep.
