ooc - sorry at the poor attempt to write an australian accent into the piece, usually Slade's thoughts are italliced but for now the other ppl's will be written in said form. I will be doing posts from both Slade's and Overload's (slade's brother) perspective, as such Slade's posts will be grey and Overload's posts will be red.
Slade rumbled slowly down the dusty track, his pace testing his patience. The human, his mark, in the rear seat had insisted they travel at a more 'comfortable' speed down the unlevel country paths of Oz, Slade would usually have told him to shove it but this was a compromise so that the pompous human wouldn't eat or drink inside of Slade. Slade hated it so when people left sh*t in him, it also made it difficult to transform around the man should the situation become hot, or as the American's liked to call it: a whole lot of FUBAR. Hostile situations were not helped by the awkward situation of Slade breaking mid transformation and as such Slade had 'negotiated' with the arrogant ambassador not to sup whiskey or snack while inside Slade. Fortunately keeping hands and head in the vehicle seemed to be accepted without discussion.
"Ya know mate it'd be A if ya coul' open a window, I'm sweatin' like a piig back 'ere." Slade scowled silently, his surly voice washed over the classical radio station's drawl in response. "Sorry, sir. That would leave you open to sniper fire. Air con will have to suffice." Denying the man his wishes was the only pleasure Slade was having on this job, babysitting was always tedious. Especially when the human he was transporting was a rascist pig who was responsible for the mutant massacres early in the conflict. People were out for him, and Slade could understand, this guy didn't diffrentiate between the guilty and innocent. That was why Slade had the job, it was difficult and he was the best mutant for it. He had a dual convoy of two light APC's, both carrying five humans including drivers.
As the man swore and complained about the 'mutant disrespect' for betters Slade turned up the Classical music, anything was better than his rascist diatribe. The lead vehicle turned left at the next junction, that wasn't correct. They should have turned right? Slade sensed a block in the right fork as he followed, in his opinion, like a lamb to the slaughter. Slade might not be able to see but he sensed the road and the geography around it, this terrain was ideal for ambush and the blockade did nothing to dissuade his apprehension. With high-rise banks at both flanks of the road it would be easy to conceal an attack down this road. Even the unhappy passenger seemed to notice and was enquiring to the situation with a fear that seemed to confirm Slade's unsettled concerns. As Slade realised it was too late all hell broke loose.
Slade felt the whoosh and trail of an RGP sail infront of him and connect with the lead vehicle, which exploded into a cacophany of screams and rippled booms. Searing metal bounced jaggedly off Slade's chassis as burning corpses were tossed like rag dolls into the air, their screams cut short by the oxygen engulfing blasts erupting into existence. Slade felt the mark in his rear seats recoiling and cowering as the rear vehicle screeched to a shocked halt. Another whoosh ensued but missed it's target, hitting a tree which was consumed in the resulting flames. Cries and shouts flared from both flanks as mutants poured over the previously empty banks of the road.
Slade instantly went through the protocol, no escape via the flanks with the front vehicle down and rear escape blocked by convoy. This meant one of two things, stand and fight or allow the rear vehicle chance to extract the mark. It was clear what had to be done, Slade began to transform around his mark. The centre of his chassis clunked upwards as his extremities pushed inwards, parts faceting into new alloted slots Slade rushed to his full height as his arms burst out at the sides, one punching the floor the other grabbing the terrified human inside the whirling and rotating parts that was Slade. Like ripping out an arrow from his body Slade dragged the human from inside of him, his parts slotting into the spaces he had previously resided. Standing up as his right forearm finalised into the comfortably shielded autopistol he kept hold of the creaming human under his left arm. Show time.
Glancing about he saw about fifteen mutants of different abilities assaulting the remaining APC, its human soldiers desperately trying to force the assailants to cover with their standard rifles. Slade opened fire on a muscular mutant who was unwisely training his rifle at the transformer, matter slugged from Slade's extemity and punched with a sickening thud into the exposed torso of the untrained mutant. Slade didn't need to check his opponents condition, he didn't miss. Another whoosh sailed past Slade as he threw himself to the ground, tossing the human mark at the closest soldier defending the APC. Regaining his feet Slade felt his left arm slide with a slick thunk as his sword descended, a swift parry with his shielded right arm rendered a mutant wielding a flaming hammer-shaped fist off balance, Slade took a step and plunged his blade into the mutant's left shoulder.
Cracks glanced off Slade's back as more mutants opened fire, one mutant's tongue lashed around his leg and started to pull. Slade rotated to shield his exposed flank with his shield as he called to the remaining soldiers, "Protocol three, extract the mark, I'll offer cover!" Slicing into the vulnerable tongue dragging him off balance Slade blasted more rounds into the high banks, forcing a few mutants to dive for cover. The APC reversed desperately, the turret gunner slumped lifelessly on the top of the vehicle, another soldier lay dead next to Slade. As Slade turned to retreat with the APC another mutant stood angrily in his path, a mutant who couldn't possibly be standing there. "Matthew?! What are..!" Slade barely had time to finish his sentence, the mutant pushed both palms into Slade's torso and a wave of agonising NNEMP washed over Slade. Everything went black for a split second before Slade was catapaulted from the mutant, he landed and his vision returned blurrily. The mutants were running off in pursuit of the retreating APC, it couldn't have been Matthew? He was in Texas? Everything hurt, and systems were shutting down. Slade desperately shook his head and felt his arms in mid-transformation as everything blacked out.
