Note: The Kabal was absorbed into the Order in the Summer of 2011. This is a snapshot from when it was its own Faction. Kabal history at the bottom, for any interested in its rise and fall. The Aim of Slate's Kabal Are you sick of the Order's narrow-minded hatred for humanity, and their short-sighted goal of total extermination?
Are you weary of watching those noble X-Souls reduce themselves to street brawlers as they spew forth hypocritical nonsense?
Do you want to actually change this world? Not just New York City, and not in someone else's life time. Do you want to do it now, with your own hands and your own gifts? Join the Kabal.
Slate will make this world a better place for every species, sex, gender, race, and religion to live in. He will do it now, and he will do it with your help. Unlike the X-Men, Slate knows that "good" doesn't always mean keeping your hands covered in spotless white gloves. Unlike the Order, he knows that there is more to world change than mindless bloodshed. He welcomes tools from all walks of life and shades of morality. You will be put to use where you can do the most good.
Join the Kabal. Change this cesspool into something worth living in.

The main complex sits on a wide plot of open, landscaped land; the approach is down a driveway lined with apple trees that would look quite nice during their spring bloom. A low stone wall sits tastefully around this area, dividing it from the lesser labs, storehouses, and employee houses and apartment buildings that surround it. Mondragon Labs owns the land and buildings around the main complex for two miles on all sides; it is located at the outer fringes of New York City, within easy driving range of downtown, but quite hard to get to by walking or public transportation. Mondragon Labs Medical is registered with the government, and willingly participates in government inspections. Its CEOs have a history of humanitarian patronage to equal-rights causes, including donations to Xavier’s Sister School. During the Registration Act of 2007/2008, it was the home of the Resistance, though this is only public knowledge to Resistance members. The former warehouse district and concrete sea it sat in was torn down and replaced with the gardens and new housing areas in April 2009, under Slate’s orders to clean out the former leader’s skeletons. All non-legal research was also destroyed at that time. Basic Labs Security- Security guards on erratic patrol routes, concentrated mostly around and inside the main complex (due to an imp's attempted pwnage. Ownzrd, n0ob, ownzrd.)
- The entirety of the Labs and grounds can be flooded with light at the flip of a switch (due to a certain shadow teleporter's attempted infiltration)
- Camera and audio recorders set up everywhere, including the bathrooms. Infrared is included, of course. Several disjoint operating teams monitor the video feeds live from several disjoint security rooms; rooms maintain constant communication with each other and with the secretarial staff (due to Hunter's paranoia; Slate has left this system intact, though he does question its merit)
- Computers from different departments are not networked together, and only private computers are connected to outside lines (including to the internet). (due to an AI's attempted infiltration)
- All members of the Mondragon Labs staff have a psychic command in their minds to ensure their secrecy and loyalty to Slate. They literally cannot communicate what they know about Slate's business to outsiders.
- All members of the Mondragon Labs staff, secretaries and janitors included, participate in regular self-defense classes in the training rooms; most are quite beyond mere "self-defense". Additionally, the majority of staff members live in the housing provided on Labs grounds. They've worked with each other every waking hour for years, and anyone new is big news. If they don't recognize you, you had better believe they won't just write it off as "someone I haven't met".
Kabal Timeline Color-coded by active leader. Default color for Hunter Antonescu, gray for Slate, dark orange for Lenna.Summer 2007 - Hunter Antonescu founded the Kabal at Mondragon Labs with the members Zephyr, Calley Swartz, Xiin, Jebidiah, and Dakota.
- Hunter Antonescu met with Tricity, and became a patron of Xavier's Sister School.
- Crystal, an AI owned by the Mansion resident Iris, was thwarted by the Mondragon Labs techies during an attempted hack of the Labs network.
- Calley was sent in cat form to spy at the Mansion, and learned about the upcoming King Pharmaceuticals battle. Iris' room was bugged in an attempt to trace Crystal's origins.
- Hunter and Syn met; a truce was established between the Kabal and the Order.
- Hunter built a working replica of the Mansion inside of Mondragon Labs, and kidnapped a canary to put in it: Iris, who he had learned was a past project of his. Or "daughter", if you want to be precise. Fatherly affection is best shown through kidnappings in the night, and ripping out the hearts of young Mansion heroes named Zelek. And preserving the husked bodies, of course, for future use.
- Due to the slightly stressful terms of his employment and Doctor Ingram's uncomfortable chairs, Calley developed Dissociative Identity Disorder. His name is Slate, and this becomes significant in January 2009.
- Calley caught all the upcoming X-Trainees' abilities on collar-cam by participating in the X-Men Tryouts. And he became an X-Trainee, too. Smile for this happy moment, Mansionites.
Fall 2007 and Winter 2008 - After the destruction of the Mansion and Sanctuary by Stalker raids, Hunter hosted New York's refugee mutants in Mondragon Labs over the course of the Registration Act. The Resistance was born, plotted, and succeeded in breaking the captured NYC x-geners out of the New York State Detention Center for Dangerous Mutants.
- Oh, and Hunter had Doctor Ingram revive Zelek. As his vicious vampire son. Who got loose in the Labs, and tried to eat his daughter Iris, his might-as-well-be-a-daughter Katrina, and his spy Calley.
Spring, Summer, and Fall 2008 - Antonescu turned his attentions to other projects aboard, leaving the Kabal without its traditional iron-fisted leadership. ((ooc: Hunter's player had limited internet access over the summer, and couldn't post.))
- Calley Swartz, the eternal Kabal kicking-patsy spy, surprised Hunter with a Declaration of War. ((ooc: Hunter's player went fully inactive during this thread due to college and the unfortunate detoxing effects of a summer away from MRO. Right after a blue whale was dropped on him IC, actually.))
Winter 2009 - Roland caught most of the Mansion brawl and all its lovely power displays on tape. Kabal members bored with the lack of leadership from above claim no responsibility for the theft of the Sanctuary's Golden Doors, nor their subsequent delivery to the Mansion.
- Slate Swartz succeeded in a complete coup of Mondragon Labs and Hunter's former assets. He worked to quickly re-contract the former Kabal members, and turned towards recruiting new members.
- Giant's Bane and Aiden rescued the mutant Dragon Speak from his South American drug lord captors. The Kabal gained a steady stream of wealth independent of Antonescu's dirty money and the ability to make all of its members temporarily omnilingual. Giant's Bane was also contracted to keep up his ties with the Order, as the Kabal's spy.
- Circe was sent to infiltrate the Mansion to get as many defensive and offensive capabilities on tape as she could. Including, of course, the abilities of the X-Men. It never hurts to have too much data on them. If she was ordered to pay particular attention to the defenses around Cerebra, well, that's just what they call "foreshadowing".
- WereCat, a neutral, was commissioned to take a sample of Dragon Speak's gems to a reputed international dealer in Egypt to bring them to the world's market, and turn their pretty sparkles into useful cash.
- Roland was ordered to steal the Mona Lisa as a gift for Syn, to be delivered at the same time as an cordial invitation from Slate to arrange a meeting with the Order's leader. Unfotunately, a disgruntled former employer had different plans for him.
Spring 2009 - The Kabal took over Colombia during April with a sweep of coordinated missions. More specifically: Slate now owns a majority share in the South American drug trade.
- Mondragon Labs was officially changed to Mondragon Labs Medical, with the press announcement of the cloned human heart used in Zelek’s revival. Mention of Zelek, vampire army experiments, and Hunter's other dubious works have officially been swept out as part of the spring cleaning.
- Slate cordially invited Mansion Headmistress Tricity and X-Men Cold Steel to the Labs for a meeting.
- Slate brought together the Kabal’s Inner Circle, a group comprised of Sebastian, Tarin, Lee, and WereCat who will act as his advisors. And, should he cross the line into true evil, his executioners. When saving the world, one must make the proper preparations, even against one’s self.
Summer 2009 - Following the Future Plot wake up, Slate mobilized both the Kabal and the X-Men in a strike against King Pharmaceuticals to allow Sebastian and Seizure the time they needed slip in and destroy the virus that had caused so much damage in the Future.
- Slate ordered the theft of the Mona Lisa. Again.
Fall 2009/Winter 2010 - Under cover of aiding in the overturning of a mutant registration law, the Kabal took over Romania.
Spring 2011
- In the lest climactic coup ever, the Order double-agent Lenna gained control of the Kabal while Slate went off to college. A merger with the Order followed, resulting in Lenna and Lori's co-Leadership of the Order. ((ooc: A friendly turnover due to Slate's player, aka me, being rather inactive from moving countries/getting a new job))
