The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Raina grinned from ear to ear. "Luke Jacobs that isn't proper banana split etiqute!" she playfully grunted and reached out to get some whipped cream and reached for his nose. "Now THIS is what you're supposed to do." she leaned forward to obviously plunk the white cream on his nose when the car hit a bump and leaning forward she fell into his lap missing his nose and poking his ear with the whipped cream.
She paused a moment out a sheer embaressment and out of pure tension having just landed in the mans lap, but when a glob of the whipped cream fell off his ear and onto his shoulder she couldn't help but burst into hysterical giggles. She straightened herself up and reached for one of the napkins to whipe the cream off his ear and shoulder. "Ok." she gasped through giggles. "not exactly like that but close to it. Thankfully this wont stain." she cleaned off his shoulder and after an attempt to redeem herself she made her way back to her own seat feeling like an idiot in that fun care free way.
"I guess I wont show you how we eat slushies then." she joked passing him one. "have I mentioned that on land I'm a complete klutz?" she reached for a spoon.
"And this is to share, though we should eat it quickly we'll be at your place soon." she added handing him is own spoon.

As Raina landed in his lap time seemed to stand still. It didn't matter that there was whipped cream on his eat... it didn't matter that the date was almost over... all that mattered was that the woman he had been admiring since early that morning was now completely at his mercy. Without thinking Luke's arms moved up to steady the woman in his lap as time began to move again. He felt a plop as a blob of whipped cream fell down onto his shoulder but at the moment was was distracted as his hand touched the edge of her dress and the bare skin of her shoulder blade. He was being a gentleman and steadying her... that was all... but then why did his hand want to do more?
As Raina cleaned the whipped cream and then made her way back to her own seat Luke did his best to hold on to some semblance of control. He wasn't sure what was worse... the fact that the beautiful woman had been in his lap and he had thought about pushing the boundaries or the fact she had been in his lap and he had done nothing.
"I think I had better skip the slushie lesson." Luke replied with a laugh that was a trace more husky than usual, "Like you said... we don't want to get anything on your dress."
Reaching over Luke grabbed his slushi and took a sip before grabbing his own plastic spoon and focusing on the banana split. "Well, if you called chocolate then I'll take vanilla and we can split the strawberry." He said as he dug up a spoonfull of the slowly melting substance. Sternly he held his hormones and mind in check, not allowing anything more than simple icecream to stay even though other more promiscuous thoughts would flit through. "I'll have to remember this... every date ends with a Banana Split."

Raina was sitting in her own seat with butterflies in her stomach. They seemed to have made a permanent home there this evening. Was sleeping over really a good idea? No. Was she going to do it anyway? Hell yes.
Without thinking as she dipped her spoon into the melting ice cream she gave a little musical chirp and it became more solid again. She realized what she'd done so casually and gave and embaressed look. "Eep." she grinned. "Sorry, don't like mine runny." she put a spoonful in her mouth and gave a happy noise.
As she ate her ice cream she darted looks at Luke silently. She was trying to imagine how things might... unfold tonight. Her body certainly wanted a lot of things but for the sake of at the very least her reputation she didn't feel right giving into all her whims. Then again she might not have a choice. It was hard being so ruled by her emotions. Most people at least attempted to make decisions about things like... well... sex... but Raina's one and only experieince had taught her that maybe she didn't do enough of that decision type making.
So she found herself brainstorming about what to do if she found herself in a situation. She knew right away Luke would never in a million years push anything... but she also knew they could both easily fall prey to this overwhelming connection. Unfourtunantly thinking about ways to avoid certain activities with Luke got her thinking about activites this morning in which he was half dressed and certain air filled kisses.
She thought about the kisses for a moment. As far as Luke knew she'd only given him polite kisses on the cheek. He likely didnt remember about what happened earlier. Then again, it's not good to sleep with someone you hadn't even kissed.
"We're here." Raina shook her head
"Pardon?"
"I said, we're here." said the driver.
"Oh." she turned to Luke with a smile. "Apparently I'm here" she laughed. "And you are too. Shall we?"

Luke had just taken his first bite of strawberry icecream when the limo rolled to a gentle stop and the driver said that they had arrived.
"I uh... guess we are." The blind man answered Raina with a slight grin. Making his way up towards the glass he pulled a couple of bills from his pocket and handed them to the limo driver. "My card should be on file to pay the bill but there's a tip... thanks for the great service." He said with a smile towards the man before making his way towards the back of the vehicle where Raina and their icecream remaining.
"I betcha we can have this banana split finished by the time the elevator gets down here." Luke said with a grin as he grabbed his slushie and the tray that held their remaining ice cream before making his way out the door. Holding the door open Luke closed it after Raina was out and then made his way towards the elevator, taking occasional bites of the last bit of banana split but making sure that the young woman was getting her share if not a little more.
"So... do we have matching blue teeth yet?" Luke asked, flashing a grin at Raina as he waited for the elevator to make its way back down to the ground floor.

Raina laughed as she followed Luke trying to spoon the ice cream as she went and make sure she didn't get any on her dress. She laughed as she stepped quickly along with Luke and made her way inside. The second the door closed behind her rain drops started to splash the ground. "Great timing!" she exclaimed as they came to a stop at the elevator doors. She pushed the button remembering his floor.
"So... do we have matching blue teeth yet?" Luke flashed her a grin and she flashed one right back. They both had ocean blue lips and teeth she laughed like a chirping bird. "Do we ever." she answered as the elevator doors opened and they stepped in. "All sugary and blue just like the ocean. That's what you should think of when you think of blue. The ocean. Because that's the colour. Think of cold things." she instructed playfully.
As the elevator stopped and open again and they stepped out to the door Raina's stomach twisted in a knot. "We're here." she said trying so sound brave but feeling a little meek. What exactly would happen next? She hadn't even kissed him yet.

"So I should think of cold things when people talk about the color blue. Interesting..." Luke replied somewhat teasingly as he ended up taking the last scoop of icecream. After swallowing the bite he opened his mouth to make some other light conversation when suddenly the doors opened. With that one action it was like all the sexual tension and energy that had been going on between the two of them came to a head.
"We're here." Raina said, her voice a little quieter than it had previously been.
"Yeah... we are." Luke replied as the pair walked towards the door. With each step the nervousness and tension building in his stomach got worse.
"Just kiss her you idiot!" Part of his brain screamed at him as he put the key in the door, unlocking it and then pushing it open to let Raina walk in first. Thankfully for her they had left one of the lights on from earlier that evening otherwise everything would have been pitch black.
"Um... let... uh... let me just throw this stuff away." Luke said as he slowly closed the door and relocked it. Making his way quickly to the kitchen he threw away the new empty ice cream dish as well as his own empty slushi cup.
Walking back into the living room he found the tension to be no better... if anything his delaying the inevitable decision had made it worse. "Should I kiss her? Do I just peck her on the cheek or do I touch her neck and go for something a little deper?" His mind raged as he shuffled his feet, looking desperately for something to say.
"And uh... um... do you need a shirt or something to sleep in? I mean, you're welcome to something unless... uh... unless you prefer nothing..."
Oh boy did that sound wrong... "I am such an idiot!" Luke silently cursed himself. "Um... if you want something I can get it and then we can change and get a little more comfortable... if you want."
Had he just repeated himself? He had... he had just told Raina whatever she wanted twice. Why did he feel like a hormonal teenager again? Luke was an adult... he had experience... what was so different about this woman?

Raina followed Luke in and stood silently as he threw everything out and met her back in the living room again. The tension was mounting and she felt a little shakey. Did he expect anything? Did she expect anything? "And uh... um... do you need a shirt or something to sleep in? I mean, you're welcome to something unless... uh... unless you prefer nothing..."
She blinked for a moment. "I uh, well..."
"Um... if you want something I can get it and then we can change and get a little more comfortable... if you want."
Her knees were jittering a bit and everything in the room seemed like she was looking through a soft focus. She wrung her fingers. She took a deep breath.
"I have my clothes from earlier, they'll be fine. Next time I come over I'll leave some things here." Oh man did she just infer that she'd actually be taking him up on that offer to come here again and leave clothes here? Subtle. Real subtle.
"Uh... I had a lovely evening." she started. "Everything was just... perfect." she started to relax a bit and visably so as she began to recall the night. Things began to move fluidly again though still charged. "The gifts were amazing, I can't ever explain how special they make me feel or how appreciative I am." one hand stroked the dress while her other fumbled with the pearls. "It was brave of you to come to the jazz club too. And for sticking up for me with that awful sales woman..." she got quieter again. "and for taking me out after I nearly got you killed."
She stood their motionless with less than half a foot between her and Luke. She wanted to dart away like a frightened animal though she wasn't frightened... it was pure adrenaline. "I guess this is..." she fumbled on the words as she looked up to meet Luke's face.
She was going to say goodnight, or comment on it being so late, but Raina suddenly found herself having an out of body experieince.
The adrenaline sped up her heart and breathing, her eyes were fluttery and her movements impulsive, quick, and decisive. Without any warning to Luke or even herself Raina closed the gap between them by reaching up standing on her tip toes and wrapped her arms losely around his shoulders and leaving her hands on his jaw guiding her face to his.
Before she knew it had even happened Raina pressed her lips forecfully to Luke and all that charged energy she'd been feeling suddenly exploded inside her. She would have felt cold and though her skin was soft her body was hard like a rock. Her eyelashes were long and batted against his cheek bone. Her hair whispered against his face and his heat washed over her while her lungs filled with his scent.
As quickly as it had happened Raina pulled back and stepped back in oen graceful movement standing in front of the guest room door. "...Goodnight." she finished as her breath came out in a little mist. She bit her lip and smiled nervously then as fast as her toes could move she was in the room with her back to the closed door trying to catch her breath and slow her heart and keep her head from spinning

For a few brief moments it was clear that Raina was as uncomfortable as Luke. Neither knew what to do... what to say... where this night should go next. As he focused his sonar on the young woman, he watched as a slight smile seemed to tug at her lips as she remembered the evening up until the moment she spoke of his almost dieing.
"You didn't... it wasn't your fault Raina." Luke spoke softly, the huskiness still touching his voice ever so slightly, "Things happen..."
""I guess this is..." Raina's voice seemed to trail off as the two of them simply stood looking at each other. There were so many things running through Luke's mind that he wanted to say but that just wouldn't come out for some reason. Was this love... lust... friendship... or something completely different?
Suddenly, almost faster than he could follow Raina was upon him... her body pressed up against his as her arms looped around his next and one hand guided his mouth to hers. For an all to brief moment Luke's mind was silent... shocked at the action but loving every moment as the kiss deepened between the two. Her lips felt cool against his, but not in a bad way. As his right hand moved up and gently caress her bare arm and shoulder he marveled at the softness of her skin that concealed the strong muscles underneath.
The kiss was slowly growing more intense and as Luke's mind finally kicked back into gear his arms began to move down so they could wrap around Raina when suddenly she was gone. His eyes blinked inadvertently as his sonar followed her quick movements over to the guest bedroom. For a moment there was just stunned silence but then Raina finally spoke.
"...Goodnight." The woman murmured before disappearing behind the closed bedroom door.
For a few moments Luke stood still before suddenly walking toward the guest bedroom door, pausing with his hand hovered over the door handle as different parts of his mind warred with each other. He could envision himself striding inside and kissing Raina like he wanted to. Like he really wanted to but she had broken off the kiss and then closed the door. If she had wanted more she would have stayed or invited him into the room... wouldn't she?
Turning away from the door Luke made his way over to his own bedroom, trying ignore the feelings of frustration and inadequacy that were racing through his body. They were adults... things shouldn't be this confusing!
Stripping off his dress clothes Luke hung them back up and then climbed in between the sheets of his bed in just his boxers. Less then twenty or thirty feet away Raina was preparing for bed and he had to wonder whether her thoughts were as filled with him as his thoughts were filled with her. Sighing softly Luke rolled onto his side and closed his eyes. Somehow he just knew that he wouldn't be getting much sleep tonight.
***
A little after six the next morning Luke got out of bed. His night had been filled with restless tossing and turning as he kept thinking about Raina and wondering why he was in this bedroom when she was in the other. Dressing quickly in gray sweat pants and a blue t-shirt with 'Morning People Make Me Sick!' printed on the front Luke padded into the kitchen and set a kettle of water on the stove for hot tea. The last time Raina had slept over for any length of time she had slipped out while Luke was asleep. He refused to let that happen a second time especially after their kiss.
Several minutes later Luke was sitting on his couch sipping at a cup of steaming raspberry herb tea with a little honey to sweeten it. Sitting in the pre-dawn darkness he relived that moment when Raina had stepped forward and kissed him... rather than lessening the charge between them Luke knew they had only pushed the envelope a little further. After setting his mug down on the coffee table the blind man made his way over to the window blinds and opened them enough that when the sun rose it would be able to light the room but not so much that just anyone could look in. Returning to his mug, Luke chose to sit cross legged on the floor with his back leaned up against the couch as he sipped at his still warm beverage. This was where he would wait. When Raina woke up and came out he would be here to greet her... talk to her... and maybe even love on her just a little. "What comes will come." He thought wearily, "Bring on the dawn."

Leaning with her back against the door Raina waited til she heard the padded muted footsteps of Luke heading toward his bedroom before she started gasping for air. Had she done the right thing? Her body tingled all over and she felt lighter than air. Her bare toes wriggled in the carpet beneath her as she releshed the feeling just a little.
She even giggled to herself, not that anything was particularily funny, just giggled in that girly sort of fashion that took over even the tom boyest of girls when hit with an overwhelming moment. She reached up and pulled the pins out of her hair letting it unravel around her bare neck and shoulders. She touched her fingers to her lips. She smiled and felt herself smiling all over. She finally stepped away from the door and shakily made her way to the bed.
Had she really just done that? Had Raina just actually kissed Luke Jacobs? She didn't waste anytime. She mentally scolded herself a little for being the one to take the iniative, but then reasoned with her brain that she wouldn't take the next iniative.
What did that mean now? She knew coming into the room was a total tease but likely the best thing she could have done if she didnt want things to progress. Well.. it wasn't exactly that she didnt want things to progress... rather she felt it more appropriate if they didnt. Her emotions may have her ruled but if her experieince with Rupert had taught her anything.
She stood in front of the bed and as carefully as she could pulled the dress up over her head. She found a hanger in the wardobe but the dress wouldn't fit inside so strapping it up she hung it from the curtain rod above the window. "That should work" she told herself realizing she was standing in only underwear infront of a window. Thank God the apartment was fairly high up.
She closed the drapes and reached for her tshirt from earlier. The pants were too tight and wouldn't feel comfy but the tshirt came down long enough she figured she'd be decent enough.
She slid into the bed feeling everything hit her at once from their morning adventures. She was tired. Dead tired. Though she expected to stay awake all night with frusturated emotions Raina was out cold into a deep sleep within minutes.
****************
She'd been lying awake now for nearly an hour. It was 7am by the clocks count and Raina couldn't decide if she should leave the room. Mainly because she didn't know what waited for her. Would Luke be mad about the previous evening? Even scarier... would he be expecting something more? She didn't mean to be a tease.... but the more she thought about it the more she thought it might have come off that way.
She'd been lying in the bed trying to figure everything out and mentally practice what she could say. Maybe she'd need to make a quick escape. Should she get dressed completley? She did have to set up for the party this evening. She could use it as an excuse. Not that she wanted to be away from Luke... she just... felt overwhelmed.
With a sinking feeling in her stomach she was beginning to feel more and more doubtful about yesterdays events and more and more guilty over last night. She was sure her face looked clammy and pale from the anxiety.
Finally she decided she could stay in bed no longer. She heard Luke moving around in the main room and knew it was time to face the music. So she got up and stalled a little by putting her tight pants on with her t-shirt and tried to do _something_ with her hair. She took a big breath and went for the door... then turned around and made the bed. This wasn't getting her anywhere.
Finally with all the courage she could muster she shakily turned the knob of the bedroom door. She wobbled like a deer out to wear Luke was and fearfully lifted her head.
"Hi." and with that one word all Raina's fears, doubts, anxiety... it all melted away as she looked into the face of the man she knew she'd fell head over heels for.

Luke could hear Raina puttering around in her bedroom... when had he begun to think of that room as 'her' bedroom? Was he already becoming so comfortable with this woman that he was actually willing to just give up a room in his apartment if she wanted it? "Yes... yes I am." Luke's mind replied to the unspoken question. Thinking back over the course of the few days he and Raina had been spending time together Luke tried to think of the moment when things changed between them. Obviously he had known from the beginning that Raina was attractive but his headache while at the sushi shop had kept him from giving her much attention. He had really begun to notice her more at the aquarium but he just couldn't think of one special, defining moment that had changed things between them.
Finally the bedroom door opened and Raina stepped out into the living room. She seemed a little unsteady on her feet as he said one word... just one word. "Hi."
Lifting his face so that his eyes would settle on Raina, Luke smile at the woman. Now wasn't the time to push it. A part of him wanted to... and it was hard to fight off the urge but at the same time he knew that he wanted the woman as more than just a bedroom playmate. He wanted her as a friend and confidant... something far more special than what simple 'urges' pushed for.
"Hi." Luke replied as he placed his mug on the coffee table and stood to his feet. Slowly, as though she might shy away like a deer, he made his way over to the young woman before cautiously slipping his arms around her to hug her and hold her close. "Good morning." He murmured softly as he pushed a kiss against her forehead, "Care for some tea or maybe some breakfast?" The very feeling of having her in his arms was something special and if it were up to him he would never release his hold on her. It was strange... even though her mutation made her more powerful than he could ever hope to be he still felt so protective of her. Already he knew that he would do anything to keep her from being hurt physically or emotionally.

Raina was nervous as Luke approached her but when he looped an arm around and emraced her she felt her whole body melt into his contors. She let out a happy sigh and let her head rest against his chest as he gave her a kiss on the forhead. He sure was a kissy fellow for someone who hadnt tried (that she knew of) to kiss her on the mouth. She liked that. She liked Luke, and everything about him.
"mmm" she responded when he mentioned breakfast. She wrestled with the idea of saying something suggestive- like that urge in her stomach wanted her to, but she fought it off. "Breakfast sounds good. I have to go home in a few hours though." she began to explain "My Birthday party is this evening. I have to set up around three. You can come if you like..." though it was an invitation Raina looked up at him with one of those puppy dog "please" sort of looks.
She made no attempt to break from the embrace. They probably looked a little odd standing there holding each other for so long... but she was warm, comfortable, and felt safe.
Luke had seen so many sides of her the past few days, all she could do was be thankful she hadnt known him a few months ago when she was so fragile, near a nervous break down, and broken. At least now she was strong, after everything she'd been through it was important to be strong.

When Raina made no move to pull away or escape his embrace Luke could feel that little bit of joy and happiness swelling within his heart. Apparently their kiss the previous night hadn't been a mistake or something that she regretted. As she invited him to her birthday, he had no doubt that he would go... especially when he watched the expression on her face as she looked up at him. Sonar could never pick up the expression that was contained within the eyes but Luke was experienced enough in reading expressions that he could notice the faintest movements around the eyebrows, cheeks, nose, and mouth.
"I'd love to be at your birthday party..." He murmured quietly before dipping his head to kiss the woman properly. Last night had been a surprise but right here, right now, he was going to kiss her like a woman of her calliber deserved to be kissed. Maintaining a balance between gentleness and firmness, he didn't push for any more than Raina was already giving. There would be a time and place for unbridled heat but right now he did his best to maintain a controlled simmer that would hint of better things to come.
Finally pulling back Luke smiled down at the young woman. "I have to admit I've been wanting to do that for a while... but back to breakfast. I told you I'd cook for you sometime so do omlettes and toast sound good?"
A part of Luke wanted more... pleaded for him to push farther but at the same time another part of him encourage the teasing to continue back and forth. Raina had teased him with a kiss the night before so why shouldn't his resposne this morning be the same? Not vindictive at all but playful and tempting, allowing their thoughts to roam while their bodies were still held in check.

"I'd love to be at your birthday party..."
Well that answer went right to her toes. She wriggled them as she thought of how Luke could send messages through her entire body. She gave a big smile but before she knew what was happening Mr. Luke Jacobs was paying her back for the previous evening.
With his lips against hers Raina suddenly knew the frustration of being on the recieving end of a heated kiss. Her hands gripped his arms in a desperate attempt to keep him closer as he pulled away. She raised an eyebrow looking up at him and cleared her throat.
"Er-hem, Breakfast would be lovely Mr. Luke Jacobs." she cooed with a comedic edge to her tone.
Here they are, progressed to the stage of kissing each other willingly. It was very romantic, and very charged. She found herself biting her lips and kneeding her fingers inside her hands. Her chest raised and fell quickly and she struggled to control her breath.
"I hear you're a good chef." she said with a coy smile. "one of the best." she reached up without thiking and pushed a loose hair away from his eyes. She snatched her hand back looking embaressed. "I'd love to have something you make!" she announced turning on her heels and heading to the couch where she made herself comfy. "You may be blind but I shant tolerate extra pepper in my food Mr. Jacobs." she exclaimed using the accent of an old rich and haughty woman, to add icing to her mocking cake she held her hand out dismisvely but broke character when she broke out into giggles. "I've bet you've met real old ladies like that."

For a few moments Luke wasn't sure if they would actually make it to breakfast... the charge between man and woman was building off of the electricity from last night. As Raina stepped away and moved towards the couch, a part of him felt relief while another part screamed for him to take her into his arms again.
"I have met women like that." Luke replied with a soft chuckled, his sonar momentarily locked on Raina before he made his way to the kitchen and began to pull out the various bowls, cutting board, and frying pan he would need.
"Any requests for beverage? I can do hot tea, hot chocolate, orange juice, milk, or water. No coffee I'm afraid." Luke called into the living room as he walked over to the fridge and pulled out a carton of eggs, a block of sharp cheddar cheese, the jug of milk, an onion, a red pepper, a package of ham slices, and a package of slab bacon. Balancing everything carefully he made his way back over to the counter and set it down before beginning the process. With slab bacon it was necessary to cook it before mixing it in with an omelette so his first actions were to lightly butter the pan, slice off several strips of bacon and throw them into the skillet as it began to heat.

"Whatever tea you had this morning smelled nice." commented Raina. "I'd love that." she stretched out on the couch hoping she didn't didn't seem rude. She wasn't used to being waited on and making jokes helped her fell less akward about it.
As the aromas of the food started to fill the air she realized how hungry she was. They hadn't had propper meals yesterday, just in between things. She held her stomach to keep it from growling "Smells amazing in there!" she called to him.
Things were akward, it was true. But they were that pleasing kind of akward. The kind of akward that gave you butterflies.
