The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"Anything trumps being homeless."
Alex was confused for a moment. "But I'm..." Then it hit him. She wasn't talking about him, she was talking about herself. No wonder she wanted to go 'anywhere but home'. She didn't have one right now. "Oh." He didn't know what to say. He doubted she would want his pity, and it would probably break whatever good mood they had going on right now.
"Not too often. The Library is also pretty architecturally sexy and is way easier to understand."
"Sexy?" He raised his eyebrow. "I never stood a chance, did I? You're interested in buildings." He grinned. Lori smiled back and teased.
"Why? You worried we'll never see each other again?"
Alex shook his head. "I am sure you will find yourself drawn to me again." He smiled again and released a shower of little sparks from his hands, causing them to drift toward the ceiling.
OOC/I know I took your post a bit out of context. Tell me if you want me to change it and I will.
Lori tried not to smirk as the cogs in Alex's brain ground into action with clipped verbal protests. It was always interesting when people remembered that they weren't the center of the universe and Lori was. Or should be anyway. This one was smart enough to not invite Lori home or something equally foolish like wasted, unfelt verbal sympathy.
"Sexy?" He raised his eyebrow. "I never stood a chance, did I? You're interested in buildings." He grinned.[/i]
"HA!" Her loud outburst was clipped short by the quick clamping of her mouth. The laugh flittered through the large open room like a trapped bird, echoing off of stone. People were worshipping or something and while she didn't really get it, she wasn't specifically here to disturb them either. People didn't often understand her use of interesting adjectives, but this was some well timed teasing for word choice.
"I am sure you will find yourself drawn to me again." He smiled again and released a shower of little sparks from his hands, causing them to drift toward the ceiling.[/i]
Lori did actually smirk now. If anyone had a magnetic personality (not to mention power) it was her. Several muffled gasps and oh!s sounded around after Alex shot off sparks. So much for staying incognito. Lori chuckled lowly and leaned against the back of the bench in front of their seat. "Keep shooting off sparks and you'll attract more than just my attention."
Lori shook her head. Were they safe in a church? Wasn't there some sanctuary rule or something? Did the actual Sanctuary have the same magical sanctuary immunity too?
"Ever hear of the Sanctuary?"
Lori turned her eyes away from the flickering supplicant's candles and raised her eyebrows at Alex. So far no one was running after them for the light show so they could probably afford a leisurely conversation.

"Keep shooting off sparks and you'll attract more than just my attention."
Alex winced and looked around. A few of the people were shooting them dirty looks, but no one looked like they were going to try and jump them. Or call the police to come and jump them. Alex grinned a bit sheepishly. "Sorry." He had tried to show off and had messed up. Damn male ego.
"Ever hear of the Sanctuary?"
Alex looked over at Lori, who was looking back. Where had that come from?
"Umm, I think I saw a flyer for it...'For those who were born something more, the golden doors of oppertunity are open. Come to the Sanctuary'... or something like that. Its like a mutant community center, right?"
Alex had actually heard a bit more about the Sanctuary online. He had seen several sites that proclaimed that the Sanctuary was amassing a mutant army to take over New York, that they were secretly creating mutants by sneaking around and irradiating hospitals, and that they were a front for a race of martians. Given the other stories on the sites, he hadn't taken the rumors too seriously. Still, he felt that it wasn't best to come out and say 'Yeah, don't they worship the Moon as the Mother of Creation?'. Sure way to scare almost anyone off.
He actually apologized for his display which suited Lori just fine. Had they been out in the open or anywhere besides a church where apparently they were safe she might have been irked. As it was, there didn't seem to be any immediate consequences to his action so she only shrugged in response. Lori folded her arms over the back of the pew in front of them as she listened to Alex.
"Umm, I think I saw a flyer for it...'For those who were born something more, the golden doors of oppertunity are open. Come to the Sanctuary'... or something like that."
Lori coughed into her hand. "Hah. Yeah, that definitely sounds like something they'd circulate."
"It's like a mutant community center, right?"
After a 'Hmm' and some brief consideration, she had to agree. She filed the phrase 'mutant community center' away for later use. It was a much better way to think of the Sanctuary rather than a homeless shelter. "Before the Registration Act, I hear they housed normos and muties alike, but now-a-days I think only mutants are actually accommodated there."
When Lori glanced back at Alex he had a hilarious expression on his face as if she had split off a second head or perhaps he was still dwelling on the Sanctuary resident's propensity for odd behavior. She laughed honest and pure enjoyment. "What in the world are you thinking about? I wish I had a mirror!"

Alex watched as Lori coughed after his recitation of the flyer. Apparently, she had had some sort of dealings with the Sanctuary. Maybe that was where she was living now.
"Before the Registration Act, I hear they housed normos and muties alike, but now-a-days I think only mutants are actually accommodated there."
"Makes sense. I doubt most humans, even homeless ones, would want to shack up with a mutant." Alex turned to look at Lori, just as another thought drifted across his mind.
'Maybe the humans are just scared the Sanctuary will try and sacrifice them to Mother Moon.'
Alex's face screwed up as he tried not to laugh at the sudden thought. Lori apparently noticed the change in his face.
"What in the world are you thinking about? I wish I had a mirror!" She laughed. He gave a weak grin.
"Let's just say I heard quite a few urban legends about the Sanctuary. Apparently, the golden doors were made when a vagrant mutant sneezed. Try and guess what his supposed power was." Alex was a sucker for urban legends and loved to look them up where ever he could. That was actually where he had found out about the Sanctuary. He had seen several 'mutant legends' that talked about the Sanctuary, and had been curious. He had looked around and found out a bit about it, but there was more fiction than fact. Alex doubted that the Sanctuary was run by Mother Theresa reborn.
((OOC: OMG Syn as Mother Theresa reborn? Hehe. Great stuff.))
"...I doubt most humans, even homeless ones, would want to shack up with a mutant." Lori was not twelve, but sometimes she indulged juvenile thoughts. "Shack up" was definitely a more sexual term in Lori's vocabulary and therefore Alex's statement, though probably true, made Lori snort and cover her devilish smile with her hand. Hobos were so not sexy (though Lori did make living la vida homeless look good), the sapien homeless were even less palatable.
When Lori laughed again, the honesty resonated so concretely that it surprised even Lori. She frowned at herself and the situation as Alex reported one of the rumors about the Sanctuary. Of course, no one was circulating anything close to the dangerous truth that was housed behind those Midas doors. The Order resided there and that very same Order was planning to unleash a not so friendly weapon to help establish mutant dominance.
But of course that wasn't the only thing that had stopped Lori's laugh short. No, for a brief moment, she'd forgotten that this was a game. She'd forgotten that the Sanctuary was just an interim home until she figured out something better. Something... more. There was no way she was putting down roots in hoboville. No. Way.
Lori's sapphire eyes flicked to the cause of her momentary lapse in judgement-- Alex: man, mutant, incapable of receiving a jolt, and too passive for her tastes. Yeah. Not worth it. Although... if she was done laying low it was always fun to go out with a bang. She considered several options ranging from shrieked accusations that would explain her absence (and probably land Alex in jail) to moans that would make anyone remotely devout blush... and there were so many church-goers around.
She ended up cracking her knuckles and glancing at the supplicant's candles, dozens of flames reflected in her eyes as she thought. Did she actually want to alienate this one or leave things open for a possible meeting later? Alienation would be fun in the short-term, but an ally of sorts could always be useful. Lori liked to leave open doors. She liked options since she had no clear plan in mind. Did she even know what was she even doing anymore?
"If you've ever out of a home, be sure to visit." Lori stood and after a short stretch shoved her hands in her pockets. So what if the conversation seemed to end abruptly? It was best to cut this off now before it became an actual waste of time. Of course, what else did she have to do? Eh... there had to be some trouble to be had in this town.

Alex watched Lori laugh and grinned back, when suddenly her face seemed to blank. Alex blinked, a bit startled by the sudden transformation. He started to ask what was wrong, when she glanced at him. She seemed to be coming to a decision, so he kept silent. He could tell that whatever she was deciding was about him, and he tensed a little. He belatedly recalled her draining attempt, and reminded himself that she was not quite a friend, though he wouldn't call her an enemy, and that she was dangerous.
Alex let a few sparks dance out of his fingers when Lori cracked her knuckles. Looked like she had decided, and that the desicion would not be pleasent for him. He waited for her move, whatever it would be, when she stood up.
"If your ever out of a home, be sure to visit." She then turned and walked towards the doors. Alex sat there, the sparks still dancing around his fingers. What had just happened? She had looked like she was getting ready to attack him, when she had just left.
"Women." Alex shook his head and stood up. HE followed Lori's path toward the door, discharging the sparks around his wrist by shooting them into a metal dish full of water near the doors. The dish rang and people looked towards him, but he just walked out.
Alex looked around, but he didn't see Lori in the crowd. He chuckled a bit and turned towards the park. He had a bit of a walk back to his car and he had...thirty minutes to get to his job. He sped up his pace. He would be lucky to get there on time, given the after lunch rush. Alex dashed across the crosswalk and through the masses that made up New York, chuckling as he went.
