The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"It was very... different when I began to see. Even though I was only sixteen I had heard people talk about their sight often enough that I knew it was different and so I kept it to myself until I figured out what was going on. Of course I ended up not telling anybody but I've begun to appreciate it even more now that I've been practicing turning it off or only using it directionally instead of all around." Luke replied as he continued to watch the penguins. He would always be amazing by the differences in nature and the way everything worked together. Nature had a way of maintaining balance except when man get involved. Maybe that was one of the reasons people so easily hated other people... they knew something was wrong with the way everyone lived and they just couldn't accept it.
"So is that what brings you to the big apple? Your job?" Raina asked, apparently content to still remain here by the penguins.
"Yeah... I didn't have any ties to anyone here except for the business. It's kind o silly but it's really the only connection I have to my family. My great grand-father founded the company or... maybe it was my great great grand-father. Anyways, I decided it was important for me to be a part of it and New York is as good a place to help as any. I got myself an apartment in the New Gotham apartment building... 34th floor." Luke replied before looking over at Raina and continuing somewhat appologetically, "Really it's only for looks... it lets me blend in with the people I rub shoulders with when it comes to work and its a status symbol. My Uncle is all about status symbols."
It was deffinately time to change the subject. Here he was telling a strange woman where his home was and there was no telling if she would take that as an invitation or something. He knew Raina, but not THAT well. It wasn't like he would object to her coming over but having that happen right after hearing about her previous relationship and misscarriage was not exactly the best timing in the world.
"So... now that you're so close to different sea animals, what's your favorite display around here?" Luke asked, knowing that his changing the subject was not at all subtle but not really caring, "Are you a big fan of the seals or otters or something else?"

Raina listened imagining what a big home would be like that wasn't filled with a million teenagers. "I'd love to see it sometime." she said without thinking and instantly regretted the way it came out. stupid stupid stupid she told herself. don't be a tramp! Everyone always gets involved with your love life. Don't get yourself in any trouble
She felt herself totally sink in that moment and the energy between them a little charged and was thankful when he changed the subject to the animals.
"I like them all!" she stammered. "I sorta wish there were whales and dolphins here. That would be neat... but they're all pretty cool." she added. "Seals can sure beat me in a race." she laughed.
She liked that she was laughing and smiling so much it had been a while and it all seemed to come pretty naturally around Luke. That made her nervous too though.
"I've never thought of having to 'rub elbows' with people." she put it referring to the face time he needed to put in with people. "it's must be dreadfully boring." she said laughing and rolling her eyes. "maybe I'll rub eblows with the fish."
she was having so much fun she didn't want the day to end. "Well, I'm officially done work all day but I need to be back tomorrow. We can go anywhere in here you like, I've got the 'backstage' pass" she mimicked. "But we can go anywhere else too." she didnt like the way it sounded coming out of her mouth, oh well, no going back now!

Open door... first the interest in seeing his apartment and now the offer to go somewhere else. "No... you're reading to much into this. We're just friends and she's vulnerable. I'm the first person she opened up to about her experiences with her previous boyfriend and the camp. Do not even begin to think abou taking advantage of her!" Luke thought to himself as sternly as he could manage. Even with only sonar for vision he knew Raina was quite attractive and there was no denying that, even while he was a mutant, he was still a man.
"Well since you're done with work you're probably ready to get out of here." Luke replied with a smile, doing his best to just stay friendly and not push for anything else. "She's a nice girl... focus... she's just a nice girl." Luke thought to himself as he mind raced on what setting could be casual without seeming like a date.
"Can I buy you some coffee or dinner?" Luke finally offered. Giving the option for coffee kept things casual but the offer for a full meal was still there if Raina wanted it. "You can tell me about your ideas for water therapy with my sonar."
Luke had to admit that last comment was a smooth move... by keeping things at least a little on business it kept things from getting to personal. He was offering Raina her opportunity to slip away or maintain a certain level with their relationship. If she didn't take it then he would not be held responsible for anything that might transpire later on.

ooc: we should jump to a new thread after this ic:
Raina was about to jump for the offer of coffee when her stomach rumbled incredibly loud. 'Uh... maybe I'm hungrier than I thought." she admitted. "Dinner might be good, if we're going out anyway... if that's ok. I mean, I need energy if I'm going to be talking about Sonar and all." she grinned.
This was soooo like Raina. To move so quickly, become so flustered, and so involved. Her mind was screaming at her to pay attention but it had been so long since Raina felt truley happy that she ignored it completley. She had enough wits about her that this wasnt going to end up like a Rupert night, she was just going to dinner... and she did have to work tomorrow so she couldn't stay anywhere or go anywhere after dinner. Just dinner.
"Do you have any places you'd like to go?"
She wasn't sure if it was the fact that he was a man being nice to her, his overall kindness, or just that she was so emotionally needy that this was happening... but she threw her caution to the wind and decided she'd just have fun. Maybe she really could help him with his mutation.

"Well..." Luke began as he ran through all kinds of possible restaurants in his mind. This was going to be a simple dinner between friends... nothing more. I mean, they weren't discussing business but they were going to be discussing a type of work so that would keep things from getting to personal. "The Gotham Bar and Grill has good food and it's not to fancy. It's over on 12th street."
Ok... so maybe the 'Gotham Bar & Grill' wasn't the most casual place in the world but it wasn't some extremely fancy place where you had to be majorly dressed up either. Both of them were dresse find to eat at a place like that but the atmosphere was one that would allow them to carry on a light conversation without getting to intense.
"Unless you have something you want to eat... I'm really not all that particular."
(OOC: Feel free to post a new thread with our arrival at whichever restaurant Raina feels like. )

"no no, I thin I'm fished out between work and the sushi so a bar and grill sounds fantastic. I don't know what you like but I could go for a steak!" she laughed. "Bar style." her mouth was almost watering and as if to echo her thoughts her stomach rumbled. She gave an embaressed laugh. "I guess all that swimming makes me hungry. Not used to using that power so much."
