The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Chris had been thinking the entire time Katrina had been talking. He could tell that she was thinking about trying to go through some of the doors at the mansion that were locked. When Katrina started talking again, he could tell that she was a little disappointed by his lack of curiosity. Chris thought for a minute. If he took a little adventure with her it would throw off the schedule he'd been in. However, it would be good for him to have some friends here, and also to have some fun while he was here.
Besides like they say, all work and no play makes for a dull day. Or something like that. Once he'd finished thinking he said to her. "Ya know what? Let's do it. I could probably help you sneak into wherever it is that you were thinking of going." He smiled at Katrina. No matter how innocent she looked it obviously couldn't stop her from thinking mischievous thoughts. He had a really good feeling that she would agree to go along, especially since she was the one that had thought of it first and even put the idea in his head. The excitement could be seen in Chris' eyes as he said this to her.
He changed his mind. Her day was looking much more exciting now. So exciting in fact that her heart gave a tiny little jump and seemed to speed up of its own accord. She'd never actually skipped a class before, and the fact that she was going to do it, and was doing it right now gave her entire system a jolt of adrenaline. Chris was up for it, so there was no backing down now.
Katrina glanced at the clock on the stove, “I'm already a little late, so we should probably get started. If you don't mind, it might be best if we aren't seen on the way down. So, uh, you're going to have to take my hand, so we don't get separated when I turn us invisible, kay?”
Had she mentioned that she could turn other people invisible too? She couldn't remember, but he was going to get to experience it first hand. Or rather, hand first. She took his hand and starting at their palms and spreading rapidly up their arms she erased them from sight. It would take only a few seconds until they disappeared altogether.
Chris was immediately glad that he'd changed his mind. Her attitude seemed to change in an instant from depressed and sullen to happy and even perhaps giddy. "Okay." he said to her. He was a little confused that she wanted to hold his hand. It was especially weird because she hadn't mentioned anything about being able to make other people invisible as well.
Katrina then took his hand in hers and they started to disappear starting at their hands and working to the rest of their bodies. Disappearing wasn't the thing he found strangest. What he did find strangest was that he didn't feel any weird sensations as he slowly from his hand and covering his body as he quickly turned invisible.
Once they were invisible he said to her, "Lead the way Katrina."
“Okay, I hope this isn't too weird. Try not to bump into things,” the young girl whispered mischievously to the radiation manipulator. She grinned at him, though he wouldn't be able to see it. She could see through her own illusions approximately half way, so she could still see her own body and his, as well as the room around and through them both. He, however, would be completely invisible to his own eyes. Katrina pulled his hand and started toward the kitchen's swinging door. She listened for a moment to try and tell if there was anyone about to come through the door, then when she thought it was safe, pushed the door open and slid through the opening with Chris' hand trailing behind her.
Next came the stairs. Katrina could, of course, see where she was placing her feet on the declined slope. She had never led anyone around invisible before though, so she didn't know for sure how much people relied on being able to see their feet when the went down such structures as staircases.
She could hear voices on the landing up above, they sounded like a couple of students rushing from their rooms to their first classes of the day. Rushing, because they were just as late as Katrina was to her own math class. Katrina froze on the staircase, so they wouldn't hear her disembodied creaky footsteps. She wasn't heavy, but the water damage to the staircase over the uninhabited winter had left it with more than one creaky step that they hadn't been able to completely fix when they had been doing mansion repairs all summer long. The architects had clearly not been planning for students to go sneaking around where they weren't supposed to be.
Chris followed Katrina eagerly. It was going to be a fun time. He would be able to learn more abuot what he could do. That was always fun. He couldn't see any of his body, which was a little weird to him; however, he could feel Katrina's hand in his so he let her lead. He looked at the swinging kitchen door when the young girl moved his hand towards it. He froze. Since he couldn't see her either he had to trust her.
"I'll try not to." He whispered to back to her after they had decided no one was coming into the kitchen. Finally they headed out of the kitchen and wherever Katrina was leading him. She seemed to know where she was going so Chris didn't ask any questions. Especially since he was trying to not bump into anyone. When they reached the stairs he stepped on them very carefully. He knew his feet were directly below him, so it wouldn't have bee that difficult for him to walk down the stairs. However, when he started down them he was much more careful and instinctively looked down to see where his feet landed.
Chris heard the kids above the two running late towards their first class. They wouldn't run into them since they were a fight above the invisible duo. He continued down the flight of the stairs, still making sure that he had a hold of Katrina's hand. He had nothing to worry about if he got caught walking around the mansion at this time; however, there was no way for him to explain how he suddenly appeared out of thin air, especially since his powers had nothing to do with being invisible. Fission made it down the stairs without a hitch, and continued to follow the vanishing girl through the mansion.
The encounter on the stairway went much better than Katrina would have expected. Honestly, she had expected tripping, falling, and getting caught right then and there. She took the quietest deep breath she could. Hopefully there weren't any mutants around with enhanced hearing, because her heart was beating rather loudly.
Katrina was more nervous than she wanted to let Chris know. This had been her idea, so she had to go through with it, but even people passing above them on the landing of the stairway had given her a shot of adrenaline. She hadn't thought ahead to what might happen if they did get caught, but as they passed the doorways to the Danger and War rooms, she reflected on what would happen if they were apprehended. Was this the type of trespass that earned a slap on the wrist or a detention or something else? The worst part would probably be her mother and Neena bring disappointed in her.
Katrina's curiosity was stronger than her fear of disappointing her elders. She had gotten used to having free reign to explore in the labyrinthine halls of Mondragon Labs, and the mansion seemed so small in comparison. Here at the school there seemed to be a very limited number of secrets. Everything from abilities to what you had for breakfast was common knowledge here, except for whatever was locked behind door number two.
Speaking of Door Number Two, she stopped directly in front of the perpetually locked stainless steel door. It was the only door in the hallway that wasn't marked and the only one she had never seen anyone walk through. Next to the handle was a flat panel with nothing on it except a small red light in the corner.
“Well, here we are,” Katrina whispered. She waited to see what the radiation manipulator would make of the situation.
Chris continued to follow Kat down the different hallways. They finally arrived in the area where the Danger Room and the War Room's were located. He'd been to the Danger room a few times to practice harnessing his powers; however, personally Chris didn't think he'd been making much progress in that area. Or at least the progress wasn't as fast as he'd liked.
Chris stopped when Katrina did. They were standing in front of the War room. He noticed a small red light in the corner of the door, near the handle. Finally the young girl spoke. Fission thought for a second of what he could do before he spoke. "Well, I could try an EMP which would disable all the electronics in there and probably the entire mansion." Having arrive at the war room door, Chris wasn't sure how much help he would be. His powers, as far as he knew, wouldn't really help them get into the room.
He looked in the direction he thought that Katrina would be, considering he was still holding her hand to remain invisible. He didn't have many options available to him, but was going to do his best to get them in there.
Oops. Wrong door. All the doors down here looked the same. Except some looked like they had more secrets behind them and some looked like they had secrets behind them, but Katrina already had seen that they did not hide anything interesting. Katrina pulled the transparent Chris over toward the mystery door that was unmarked. Just in case, Katrina tried the handle. It was locked, of course.
“You really think it would short out the electricity in the whole mansion?” That was bound to be a bit more noticeable than a thirteen-year-old skipping her math class. The thirteen-year-old in question bit her lip as she thought about it. Perhaps this particular method of breaking into the unmarked mystery door was not the best one. Perhaps what the really needed was a fingerprint manipulator or shifter to emulate an acceptable print pattern to get the door open. Or they'd have to get one of the people who already had access to let them in. A simpler plan, but one that might actually work better than shorting out the electricity of the entire school.
Chris was pulled in front of the door that Katrina was looking at. Apparently he was looking at the wrong door. Now that he was in front of the door that she was talking about he was still not sure how they would be able to get in.
He thought for a minute before answering her question. He didn't have an answer for her question. The only times he'd created an EMP everything had gone off within a certain radius. "I think it'll short out the power in the whole mansion." He finally said to her. Chris was feeling a little disappointed that they'd seemed to have hit a dead end with their little journey. "Last time I did it, it shorted out the electrical systems within about a four block radius. It's very powerful and I can't do anything about it once I've set it off...just so ya know."
“Well, I guess it's back to the drawing board,” she said, doing a fairly decent job of keeping any disappointment out of her voice. There would be other opportunities and other times that might work better to figure out this first step in the puzzle. They may have gotten a game over, but they needn't restart, only go back to the last save point. From there they would either need to add to their party or do some major leveling up before tackling this dungeon the next time.
“Next time we'll have a better plan. You can't really expect a plan that was developed so early in the morning to really be effective.”
Katrina looked around, but no one was around. The only class that was held down here was Neena's Danger Room class, which wasn't until later in the day. Fighting robots or whatever the older students did in that class was best not attempted when half the class was still half asleep. She let the invisibility that surrounded them fade away again, and they were both back to normal. Katrina glanced at her now visible watch; she figured her math class must be nearly half over, so it wasn't really worth going to the last part. At least, it wasn't worth the guilt of walking in late and having to face the professor.
“I might go to the library for a little while, then. I've, uh, got a math class to avoid for a little while. You can come along, if you like.” She turned to go.
Chris was also disappointed that he couldn't help her get into the room. He wanted to know what was on the other side of the door. "That is true." he agreed, "Not much good come from plans that were formed in the morning."
He felt a little bad that he'd been an accomplice to helping Katrina skip her math class. Although she had come up with the idea and hadn't objected to any of their adventure so he didn't feel too bad. She told him where she was going and said that he was welcome to tag along.
Chris, however, had figured that he'd tagged along enough and said, "Thanks but I've got some things to do first. I may see ya in there later." He had sort of created a schedule for himself and he was trying stick to it as best he can.
