The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Apparently Maya's condition had worn on her, as her response and emotional outburst were clearly out of context and character. She had even turned petulantly away from him and turned to go down the stairs. It was very troubling to him, this sudden change. Judging from her words, it seemed to be a misunderstanding on his mention of numbered days. He moved to clarify his meaning before she did anything else too rash.
" Wait, you have totally mistook my meaning, Maya. I have every belief and assurance that I can help find you a cure or a treatment for your condition. When I said our days may be numbered, I was speaking for all of us. Mutants. Mass genocide in China was not that long ago, Haywire itself, Australia and the Order, so many things are going on that all point towards mutantkind as the cause and effect. It's very troubling to me and makes me feel as if these are the last days of anything recognizable as peaceful. For you to assume that I would be crass enough to speak of your condition actually hurts me. It was a misunderstanding. That's all it was."
The ire was apparently a virus as it had now spread to him as well. All he wanted to do was calm her down and make her feel better and she just throws it in his face? He reached out for her, catching something of substance near her shoulder. " Why would I go through all of this? As a cruel joke? I think you know me better than that, Maya Swift. I would never hurt you, least of all on purpose. Please relax and understand this."
Maya stopped on the stair, unable to tune out the truth of Garrett's words. She was being stupid and selfish. He always had a way of showing her how there was so much more than herself in this world. How self centered had she become? She'd swung on the pendulum from self-oblivious to over self-conscious. She sighed. It never bothered her when Garrett helped her see these things. On the contrary, it was nice to have someone draw her out of her bubble. Still... the world's events weren't very uplifting. She felt much the same as she had so many years ago in her room in the mansion. The world was still messed up. No amount of teaching or fighting or... anything she'd done seemed to make it any better... yet. She felt her resolve forming again. The Gulf Stream. That was her contribution to the world now. It was all she could give.
"For you to assume that I would be crass enough to speak of your condition actually hurts me. It was a misunderstanding. That's all it was."
She snorted and spoke, her back still turned though if he focused he could probably see her face through the back of her head. "A misunderstanding." She echoed rather coolly. She just couldn't shake the hopelessness that simply. "Thank you for reminding me that I'm not the only person on this planet. I think I'm done with my vacation now." She started forward again with every intention to leave, but he caught some vital bit of her substance in her shoulder. It was like someone tickling the inside of her scapula. It was strangely intimate and stopped her from moving further.
"Why would I go through all of this? As a cruel joke? I think you know me better than that, Maya Swift. I would never hurt you, least of all on purpose. Please relax and understand this."
She sighed and turned around to face him. She leveled her eyes to his, something wrought of her military training. "I know you would never hurt me intentionally." She stated matter-of-factly, eyes wide as if it were the most simple truth in the world. Every attempted touch, every failed attempt at intimacy was an inadvertent nail in her coffin... and somehow the fact that he was trying made it okay. At least he was trying. What was she doing? Several emotions flitted across her face, too fast to be discernible. "Sorry." She sighed again. "You're trying... I should... try harder." This vacation was hardly beginning and she was already giving up? Ridiculous. Besides. Hawley probably wouldn't have allowed her back.
She reached up and scratched her head, her ivory hair wafting off in tendrils as she did so. Relax. She just had to relax and stop worrying about everything so much. But then again so did Garrett. The idea tugged up the corners of her frown minutely. "We suck at this relaxing stuff."
Garrett nodded. He knew he certainly did, so there was no reason to cast judgment on poor Maya." You said it. I guess I haven't relaxed in years. Always something on the horizon, fresh things to worry over. Maybe we would do better to throw ourselves into something headfirst. " He lingered on the steps and then also turned to start walking down. they would be there for two weeks, she could come and stare at the snow anytime she liked. He had seen enough of it.
He passed her, flashing a wink to her as he did so."It's just snow and penguins for miles up there. Surely we can find something more productive to do. Let's head down to the Infirmary and my office. Start brainstorming on your situation as opposed to arguing over it." It felt good to break his measured pretenses and get to work. He thoroughly welcomed and enjoyed Maya's company, but the lack of exercise and work was already taking its toll on him. He could feel the minute losses of muscle mass in his body. Heightened nervous awareness did that to a person.
"Now's the time to approach the issue anyway, isn't it? We have the free time away from Jude and the program. I have a bit of a window short of my usual caseloads. We can kill two birds this way, as you can become my patient as well." There was plenty to be done. Monitoring, samples, tests. The order of it all seemed to put his mind at ease. Besides, if nothing else, they could always play doctor.
Garrett turned and passed her on the stair. He winked at her and she couldn't help but smile she felt it thaw her down to her core. He suggested that if they sucked at relaxing, that they should instead be proactive and do something useful. The penguins could wait, indeed. "Oh thank goodness. I thought you'd never ask." It was exactly what they needed: something to do.
She drifted downward, eager to follow.
"Now's the time to approach the issue anyway, isn't it? We have the free time away from Jude and the program. I have a bit of a window short of my usual caseloads. We can kill two birds this way, as you can become my patient as well."
"I don't want to hamper your work here," she wafted in front of him, turning around to face him, "but I am feeling rather possessive. I have to share you, I guess, for the colony's sake." She shrugged. "Like you said, no Jude or Hawley here. At least you know I'm all yours." It was easy to keep pace just before him. Especially since they were on the stair, but she'd never been to the infirmary. She'd have to let him lead eventually, but for now she was able to feel a bit more playful.
"Is it silly that I'm looking forward to seeing you in action, doctor?" She gave him a very knowing look. Yeah. Trying was definitely more fun than fighting.
"I don't want to hamper your work here," she wafted in front of him, turning around to face him, "but I am feeling rather possessive. I have to share you, I guess, for the colony's sake." She shrugged. "Like you said, no Jude or Hawley here. At least you know I'm all yours."
They were moving down the steps now, both with a new spring in their step, the apparent charade of relaxation finally removed. "My work can't be hampered. If I chose not to involve myself with you, or the program, or anything else, I would still be too busy. So I guess it really makes no difference. This way I can still enjoy your company and the finding of my studies of you will not only help you and us, but should prove to be important findings for future generations. That's what I hope, anyway."
They finally reached the bottom of the stair and began to exit the Hub for the infirmary. He stopped again, musing."Also, though you do have to share me, I am yours completely as you are mine. We should know that now." He caressed and kissed her with his eyes before they returned to the bustle of the main thoroughfare. As they walked down the frozen hallway, the general noise and banter of the Colony seemed to dull away. They were in their own little world, as they were always most comfortable in. They had never needed to constantly talk. The silence and the knowledge of their love was more than enough to fill their space.
The metal doors of the infirmary slid open and they found the waiting room empty. Garrett was actually mildly surprised and conveyed it in the arching of his eyebrows to Maya. A young woman in her early twenties with soft curls of red came from his office. Rita. "Rita, did you clear everyone out of here?"The young lady smiled, her eyes darting at Maya and then back to Garrett."It's been a slow week, thankfully. Is this your girlfriend you've been going on about?" Rita's nose wasn't very large, but you wouldn't know it by her need to put it into everything. She looked at Maya again, smiling."Rita Jenz, Dr. Wills' nurse. I can heal people and actually have a degree. He lucked out finding me, right Doc?"
"Yes, the Colony is as lucky as I am to have you among us. Rita, this is Maya Swift. My girlfriend" He thought the word a bit juvenile, but what else? Lady, lover, woman? It was always so ridiculous to label things, he thought.
"My work can't be hampered. If I chose not to involve myself with you, or the program, or anything else, I would still be too busy..."[/i] If Maya hadn't known what he was talking about she might've felt shirked and unimportant. As it was with the X-Force, even worse the JSI, she grasped every bit of his meaning. A bob of her head indicated her comprehension and commiseration. It was nice to know that perhaps her body would be worth something to the field of medicine before it was a cadaver.
He paused at the mouth of the stair for another tender look. It was all love and kisses though nothing as crass as attempted physical contact. He seemed to understand at this point how it was futile. They passed again through the busy and exquisite hub, this time with purpose. It seemed ever busy, thrumming with life. Garrett and Maya fell into the comfortable silence that was a tell tale sign that their relationship was the same as it ever was. They were ever industrious and ever efficient. Words really just seemed to get in the way in times like these. Most people never seemed to understand that.
The hard and slick double doors of the infirmary slid outward, sensing them and opening automatically. Garrett seemed surprised at the tidy and empty room. She only shrugged in response. With 200 or more people you'd expect to see at least a few who needed attention. Instead, a young woman with a swath of curls exited from a smaller space, presumably the office.
"Rita, did you clear everyone out of here?" Maya frowned a bit at him as he probably didn't realize how accusatory his tone was. The woman only responded with a smile. Eye darting was beyond Maya, she could only tell facial facing. "It's been a slow week, thankfully. Is this your girlfriend you've been going on about?" Maya's eyebrows rose ever so slightly and she turned toward Garrett's so that he would see the question in her eyes. 'Going on and on about? Really?' Rita then turned her face toward Maya and smiled all the broader. "Rita Jenz, Dr. Wills' nurse. I can heal people and actually have a degree. He lucked out finding me, right Doc?" She seemed to sense that offering a hand to shake would get her no where as Maya's hands didn't even resemble anything more than misty wafts of cloud. Maya nodded her head, realizing with the action that she wasn't actually facing the woman. It always bothered people when she didn't "look" at them. She was always perceiving everything in the room. Her actual facing meant nothing, but she corrected herself either way. It was a polite and more normal as if such a word really meant anything anymore.
Garrett seemed to brush off Rita's comment. "Yes, the Colony is as lucky as I am to have you among us. Rita, this is Maya Swift. My girlfriend." Inwardly Maya chuckled at the way Garrett let the word girlfriend trail off. It was so much deeper than girlfriend and boyfriend. She tucked that train of thought away for a rainy day.
Maya smiled somewhat amiably and nodded more formally now that she was facing the right direction. She had to stop herself from correcting him about her title. Here she was just Maya Swift. No rank needed. "A pleasure, Ms. Jenz. It eases my heart to see the doctor is in such capable hands." She grinned, a knowing woman to woman smile. "I trust that you keep the Good Doctor in line here at the colony?' Maya sensed a sort of busybody-ness about the woman. Rita should love the inclination that it was she who held the reigns. After all, if men insisted on being the head of things that really left women in the role of being the neck. Although slightly lower than the head, they got to choose where to point that head. At least that was the theory.
Garrett was still trying to get the bad taste from his mouth over the title of girlfriend as he saw Maya and Rita exchanging. Maya showed the authority she clearly had in Garrett's affairs. Rita, as usual, ignored it, lost in her own shiny, happy, little world. It wasn't as if there was a large number of healing mutations to contest with, so generally if Rita had been a hunchback with offensive body odor, he would have still gladly taken her as nurse. The fact that she was a licensed one was pure gravy.
He watched as Maya talked, now studying her for two important reasons. One, to actually be aware of her condition to the point where he could stop making an ass of himself. Two, every aspect of it could ultimately be a cure to her treatment and eventual cure. A cure was the only answer for Garrett. He would not settle for a treatment to extend her fleeting life cycle. In his mind, he was going to find a solution and make her whole again, whatever the cost.
" Oh, yes. He's quite a handful. As you well know, when he gets his mind set on something, it is nigh impossible to pull him free. It helps as a Doctor, but as a boss? Well, you kn--" She was cut off, not so ironically, by Garrett's voice."Rita, I need all of the files on density manipulators, genetic based manipulators, hmm..possibly some mental types. Just bring me all the files of the residents who may be able to affect a person's body or mind. Also the density manipulators. Did I say that? Anyway, also get exam room one prepped with monitoring devices.
Rita just made a grin as if she might wish to throttle the good Doctor and went off to gather those files, passing by the two of them and leaving the room. " Care to join me in my office? It is probably a bit more hospitable in there. Also, I need to talk to Hawley so you can verify that everything is well." He was already walking to his office door, opening it and holding the door open for her by the time he had ended the sentence. A one track mind, in all aspects of business and pleasure.
Maya smiled feeling quite at ease with the bubbling Rita. Some personalities were naturally uplifting. That coupled with her healing ability made for the makings of an excellent nurse.
Maya frowned slightly when Garrett interrupted their little chat, but the edges of her mouth twitched upward as he began to repeat himself. She wasn't exactly looking forward to being poked and prodded, but at least the one wielding the utensils was Garrett. Maya smiled warmly one last time for Rita's sake - a kind of apology for the tunnel vision.
Mentally indexing what she'd learned from doctors already, Maya attempted to scour her thought for every known detail and organize those thoughts as she knew Garrett would be asking for them soon. No doubt he would test things out for himself, but it was good to have somewhere to start and some notes to compare. It would help him run tests and more efficiently which in theory made for an expeditious cure.
"Care to join me in my office? It is probably a bit more hospitable in there. Also, I need to talk to Hawley so you can verify that everything is well." He was already walking to his office door, opening it and holding the door open for her by the time he had ended the sentence.[/i] Maya blinked slowly as she came out of her thoughts. She had to stop and think about what she'd heard, but hadn't actually processed -- it seemed that she'd have to remain in the here and now to catch up with Garrett's poise and focus. 'Office, hospitable, Hawley -- Oh!'
Maya scooted into the smaller space, brushing past Garrett. "If it's a vidlink, please subtly let me know when it's live. I always feel stupid talking at a blank screen and Hawley doesn't always speak first. I'd like to speak with confidence." Maya settled into an area next to the chair behind the desk. She wasn't a guest so he shouldn't mind her looking over his shoulder so to speak. She also didn't need the chair. It wouldn't support her as it would Garrett and "standing" was much the same as anything else in this form.
Garrett sat in his chair to begin warming up the PC. He felt an instant feeling of grim nostalgia. Before Maya's arrival, he had spent way too much time in this chair, thinking himself turning old and gray in it. She had really brought life back to him and a feeling of importance. The monitor lit up and he began the connection to Hawley, the JSI logo appearing first. He selected the CB program and began the connection process for video. He kept Maya informed of every step he was taking so she could keep up.
Garrett turned his desk lamp on to enhance the image of the two of them as Hawley's face appeared. He seemed to be waiting for their image to appear. "Dr. Hawley? Check, check." Hawley seemed to catch up in the delay."Yes, Dr. Wills, I see you. And yes, I hear you as well. Ah, Maya, good to see you as well, though you seem to have degenerated somewhat. I'm actually surprised to hear from you again, considering the brevity of our last talk."
"Well, I apologize for that. I just wanted for Maya and I to have some time alone, but o ensure that she was well as far as your end. I actually wanted to request all of her files and medical information up to now. I want to spend some of this off time actively working on her condition. This information would be very valuable." I can do that. I am glad to see you two being productive, yet I also hope you are enjoying yourselves. I'll send you the files shortly."
Rita peeked in for a moment."Sorry to disturb you, Doctor. I could use some help with something out here." Garrett nodded to her. " Be right with you, Nurse Jenz."He turned back to Hawley's image."I need to see what's going on here. I appreciate your help. Perhaps you and Maya can catch up.Thanks again." He rose and moved the chair out of the way so Maya could have any room she needed. "I'll be right back, dear." With that, he left the two of them to speak as he left the office.
Garrett obliged in telling her every step of the process. It wasn't as efficient as Jude planting images into her mind, but it was much preferable. The time she most felt inept or hampered was sitting in front of a computer screen. As if she hadn't felt mild animosity toward the electronic gizmos for often outsmarting her, but now they were everywhere. making life easier for most, electronic displays were always making her life that much harder. Even her old faithful, the book was practically beyond her now. If she focused every fiber of her being she could feel the difference between the ink and the page, but it did nothing for comprehension of the letters... only confirmation that ink was indeed on the page. Maya sighed. She'd stubbornly refused to learn braille.
"Dr. Hawley? Check, check." Maya stiffened, bringing her professional face to bear at the mention of Hawley. She presented a stoic, but relativel happy face as she uncomfortably listened to them speak. It was weird. Like taking your boyfriend to meet your dad for teh first time after he'd caught you making out with each other on the couch. Maya nodded in response to Hawley's greeting, but remained silent. Garrett requested her medical files and Hawley consented.
Rita then called Garrett away and Maya was left with a voice and a blank screen not really knowing why she was needed to contact Hawley in the first place.
"You are enjoying your vacation, I hope."
Maya... no, Ghost nodded curtly. "Although I cannot condone your methods, I forgive you for tricking me. As you can see I am not idly wasting your time, Sir. I also trust that you've taken care of my duties. I know that you are capable, but it is hard letting go." There was silence. Ghost had to assume Hawley was nodding or perhaps checking his display closer to better see her status. Hopefully the call hadn't dropped without some auditory notice. "Sir. Might I inquire as to the condition of my Controller?" Ghost thought of the pull she felt at the back of her mind. Was that due to distance or was Jude still out? Hawley muttered something, the mic only caught the words 'so sure' and 'have worked' before clearing his throat. "Jude is in stable condition. His body is recovered, though his mind is still ... wandering. I have been assured that given time and rest he will return to himself." Ghost blinked slowly as she processed what he'd said. "Please send word when he has recovered." More silence. Augh She hated not being able to see, and she never knew if Hawley was doing this as a test or what. "One last thing," She let him know this conversation was fast ending along with her patience, "Have you informed the X-Force of my absence?" "It's not my---" "Sir, they should be informed of why the doctor is not giving his haywire inoculations and preparatory speech. It was, after all, you who changed the doctor's itinerary." She cut in on his words remorselessly. She heard him grumble, but he seemed to get her point. "Thank you sir, Ghost out."
Rather than attempt to turn off the screen, Ghost moved toward the door and out of the field of sight that the camera afforded. She was tempted to slip out to see what urgent business the nurse had called him away on, but what if it was a patient? She couldn't exactly tag along on a confidential patient treatment or something. She waited patiently near the frame of the door, keeping an ear out for Garrett's return.
Rita brought him into examination room four, briefing him as they walked. It seemed one of the ice manipulators, on their daily routine of structural checks and construction, had gone off by himself and had a little accident. Walking into the room, it didn't look too little. It was his friend Glacier. He was covered in blood. Garrett suited up, gloves and mask on lickety split. He stood over him, his hands sketching out the man's system as he did preliminary checks for injury. " Glacier, can you hear me? It's Doctor Wills. What happened?" It looked bad, whatever it was, the blood had dried across a grievous wound on his chest. There was no telling how long it had been.
He was unresponsive. " Rita, heal the superficial regions here around this."This was a five inch gash near his sternum. He applied some suction to the area, pinning back the area with clamps as he wielded a scalpel, simultaneously applying his own special anesthetic to the dermal tissue surrounding the wound. Rita's eyes began glowing in a golden haze as they normally did when she began to heal. She had already put a blanket over him and prepped him, wiping away the old blood and doing the work of checking his vitals, ensuring Garrett that he was still with them, albeit weakly. Garrett made an exploratory incision.
After about an hour of some touch and go moments, Garrett had sewn him up and was monitoring him, while talking to Rita about his condition. Glacier's eyes fluttered open." Doc? Ugghh. What happened?" Garrett removed his mask, smiling down at him. You had a nasty stab wound, but there was no trace of any foreign material. Icicle maybe?" In the deeper reaches of the unfinished areas, they were quite massive. Glacier seemed to recall, nodding Yeah, Big one. I had unshielded myself, thinking I was done with the corridor. I heard a crunch and looked up and then was here."" Well, you should be fine. Remember the buddy system next time and take a heat manipulator with you. They can smooth the rough edges and keep you warm should something like this happen again, which I hope it doesn't. I will leave you in Nurse Rita's capable hands." He smiled and nodded to them both as he tossed his gloves away, hurrying to find Maya.
He found her in his office. He removed his coat and shirt, which had a good bit of dried blood on them. "Sorry, dear. I had a small problem and had to sew a guy up. Hope you weren't too worried." He pulled a random shirt from his locker in his office, sliding it back over his head and replacing his coat, as it wasn't so messy that it wasn't needed to knock the ever present chill off."How did your talk with Hawley go?"
It was a long time. She sent her power out through the space underneath the door and heard the diligent voice of an emergency surgeon in the tune of Garrett. Not wanting to contaminate anything or even learn too many bloody detail, she pulled back quickly, noticing bodies waiting idly for the wounded as she pulled back. She wondered how bad it really was... she selfishly hoped it wouldn't keep Garrett away too long and decided to entertain herself in the office.
She spent a great deal of time examining the things in the office. It was tidy, but there were still mysteries there. A locker full of folded cloth, the expected papers and files, and the ever offensive computer. She brought her face in front of the square conglomeration of plastic, metal, and wires. Computer displays were made of light, right? So she didn't have to become fully solid... just solid enough to see light. Hopefully there would be enough difference in tone that the lack of color wouldn't hamper her too much. She just didn't think she could manage too much solidity today.
She focused on her eyes, just the eyes... was that too much to ask? The bright blaze of screen burned at her eyes without distinct definition. She squinted and focused harder until she could make out the spinning helix that was Garrett's screen saver. A headache was farming at her temples, but she was pleased to be this successful. She sent tiny bursts of air toward the keyboard. She was able to always know the home keys by the small raised dot that marked F and J. Other than that she was going by memory which meant the most used key was probably the backspace, but it was at least working somewhat.
She started by finding her favorite European periodical and reading the news. Garrett had reminded her of current events that she hadn't been able to read up on recently. JSI was well informed, but like any government institution it had it's own bubble. It was good to get out and learn more. As time went by she ran out of events (some not so current any more) to pour over and found herself distracted by a small headline underneath the Arts Section: Atom Manipulator Makes Something Out of Nothing. Artist Maksim Sacha Borova organizes inorganic material particle by particle until he is able to mold beautiful structures.
Intrigued, Ghost scanned the article, she was just about to go back for a more thorough reading when Garrett made his appearance, stripping his shirt and changing into a fresh one.
"Sorry, dear. I had a small problem and had to sew a guy up. Hope you weren't too worried." Ghost stretched, rubbing her hands against her aching eyes. "Just a part of sharing. I couldn't in good conscience lure you away when you had a patient."
"How did your talk with Hawley go?" "Like telling your dad that your boyfriend got you pregnant." She groaned and then quickly went on to report about Jude's condition and apologies that would be sent to the X-Force on their behalf. She stretched again and turned back to the screen realizing with a huff that it was blank to her again. She'd lost her focus when they were chatting.
"Read up on current events and found this." She moved aside so that Garrett could see the article as she went back to rubbing her aching eyes and temples. Reading hurt.
Garrett was mildly surprised and relieved to find Maya looking at the computer. It was good to see her getting about and getting something accomplished. It had to be a load off for her as well. He snickered a bit at her reply concerning her discussion with Hawley, nodding appropriately and feeling guilty relief that Jude was recuperating. She mentioned something about current events and moved for him to look at something. It was just as well as he felt an ostrich complex for not looking at anything outside of his little world.
Sitting in the chair at the computer, he immediately saw the relevance of the article she had pulled up." What, did you do all of this with air? Impressive. This looks very promising" He clicked the link for contacting the artist which brought up his own email service, explaining his actions as he did so to the again sightless Maya." I have the email up, let's decide what to say and I'll send something right now. That way ,with Peter's help, we might be able to get him here or you to his studio before you go back or we can just get in contact with him. Since you are the client, you should dictate the bulk of it and I'll type for you." It sounded very promising. Even if she had artificial skin, being able to hold her hand would be excellent.
Maya was still cradling her forehead in her hands, though she listened carefully to Garrett as he spoke. Part of her wanted to ask if they could put this off until a later date, but she knew that the sooner they stared this process, the better it would be for them both in the end. Who knows, maybe they could get him there within the week if they were intriguing and persistent enough.
"Well, in the article it stated that he was interested in moving into the realm of human anatomy." She rubbed at her aching eyes perceiving without them that Garrett was already typing. "It just seems like my body is conducive to the artistic expression he wants to try. I am the logical next step in his growth as an artist. It would be a mutually beneficial experience for both of us since I currently lack physicality and he can bring that to me in whatever artistic form he pleases." She sighed, her whole form expanding and then contracting slightly with the sound.
"He could give me little purple nubbins everywhere for all I care, I just..." She stopped mid-sentence and blinked, distracted by her own thoughts. They were racing around her mind too fast to consciously even dignify most of them with a response. Except for one that had weasled its way to the forefront. "Hey, you're the nervous system guy, you think you could work to make it so I could feel though a synthetic body?" She peeked her face through her hands so he would see her face, her expression. She wanted it all... it was all so promising, this artist man. She'd abandoned the thought of trying not to get her hopes up. She was flying the flag of real hope now.
Garrett could see that the increased effort had tired Maya out and left her weak. He wished he could rub her muscles and soother her, but that was the point of all this wasn't it? If she could form a body of her own yet, if one could be made while she healed or it gave enough time for a treatment or cure to be developed, than none of it was in vain. He listened to her, shaking his head slightly and grinning at the mention of purple nubbins.
"Hey, you're the nervous system guy, you think you could work to make it so I could feel though a synthetic body?" Garrett sat back in the chair, his head near the warmth of Maya's aura. " Hmm, I'm sure I could. Depends on what the material used is, but I am sure I can do it. You know I'd do anything for you, dear. Would you like to go lie down for a bit before we resume any more activiyt? I think, judging by the time, that it is probably pretty late in Mr. Barova's part of the world, so we can wait til later. You look terribly tired, dear."
