The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Finishing his sandwich Luke realized that apparently the two ladies had been concentrating on their food as well because the conversation had apparently stalled. "Time to get things moving a little." He thought to himself as he took a sip of sweet tea.
"Would you like me to meet you over at the office and introduce you to Miss Langstan in person?" He offered as he reached out and set the glass back down on the table, "I can walk you through what the job opportunities are and figure out which one you think would be best. My guess after getting to know you a little is that you'd rather have someone you know show you around than a complete stranger that you only have a business card for."
Mentally as Luke spoke he was running through his schedule trying to figure out when things would work best. He didn't often go to the office but he had gone this far helping Victoria so there was no reason that he couldn't go a step or two farther. "Thursday and Friday are open... so is next Monday." He thought to himself as he ran down the list, "So I guess whichever day will work for her would be fine... if she's even interested."
Victoria was surprised but grateful that Luke was being so kind and helpful to her. Her parents had tried to caution her about the sort of people she would meet and though she had no reason to doubt them, her lack of experience in the world beyond the tiny house she had shared with her parents had not given her any first hand experience. Even the memory of the incidents that had led to her being taken out of school had faded with time.
"Yes, that would be very kind of you, if it is not too much trouble." Victoria replied, trying not to sound too enthusiastic.
That Luke might have an ulterior motive didn't enter her head for a moment and she would have dismissed it if it had, being a naive and trusting soul. As it was she had no reason to think Luke might be anything but on the the level.
"To be honest, sooner rather than later would be good. I don't have any other commitments." Victoria was a not the sort of person to hold her cards close to her chest and she added, "If I can't get some money together by the end of the week or show that I have employment I am going to have to leave the accommodation I am in."
Vitoria hoped she didn't sound too desperate but the truth of the matter was that she was in sailing very close to the wind, financially. She knew if she really had to that she could sell the flute or her computer but the money from the latter wouldn't last very long and selling the flute would break her heart, it being the only substantive thing left of her parents. It was a nice flute and they had worked hard to get the money together to buy it for Victoria. It was nearly enough to set her off again and though her lip quivered and her eyes moistened she held it together.

Victoria sounded desparate and while a lot of men in the world might have seen that as an opportunity to take advantage of her, Luke was nothing if not a gentleman.
"I can rearrange my schedule for tomorrow." He thought to himself as he did his best to think of a way to help the young woman, "Deborah might not like the interruption in her carefully crafted schedule but she'll survive."
"Well how about tomorrow morning? We can meet out in front of our office building at say... ten or eleven?" Luke offered as he remembered a brunch meeting that he had been dreading. All it was going to be was boring speaches and people making off color jokes about his love life. Much better to miss it than to actually attend and now he had a good reason.
Victoria looked at Luke with gratitude written clearly on her face. New York had seemed terrifying when she had first arrived and had continued to be daunting until now. If she believed in fate, which she was not sure she did, then getting the job in the clothing store, painful as it had been, had been a necessary prelude to her current situation.
"Thank you, Luke." She said, a smile lighting up her face, though she belatedly realised that he would not be able to see it. Earlier seemed better so she added, "Is ten okay?"
Victoria fished the card Luke had given her to make sure she had it and that it had the address on it. She didn't want anything to get in the way of her arriving on time or in the correct place.

"Ten would work just fine." Luke replied with a smile before lifting his glass of sweet tea and draining the last of it. Setting the glass down the blind man slid out of his seat and stood, a smile directed toward both of the ladies.
"Tris, Victoria, it was a pleasure meeting both of you. I've got some things to do this afternoon so I'm afraid I must be going." Luke said with a friendly grin still on his face, "Tris, I hope to see you again sometime and Victoria, I'll see you tomorrow at the 'Jacobs & Jacobs' office. Take care."
Once the goodbyes had been said Luke turned and moved smoothly through the restaurant and then out onto the sidewalks. In a matter of moments he was lost in the crowd.
"Thank you, Luke." Victoria replied and then in confirmation. "Ten o'clock, Jacobs and Jacobs."
"He's nice." Victoria's voice had a wistful tone as she watched Luke making his way out of the restaurant.
"Not that he would be interested in me." She added softly, more to herself than Tris and her voice only just carried over the background noise.
He had played her Knight in Shining Armour and she his Damsel in Distress. It was as far as Victoria felt she could hope it would go.
"A girl can dream, can't she?" She tried to justify her musing to herself.
That he might be the Black Prince and she the virgin sacrifice never entered her head, not even as a quiet little voice of caution.
With an effort she turned her attention away from thoughts of Luke and back to Tris.
"Do you have any plans for the afternoon, Tris?" She asked, hoping that Tris didn't so that they could spend more time together. It was a natural fear, that having met new people they would disappear out of her life as suddenly as they had arrived.
