The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Neena nodded easily. "Mmhm. It's kind of like a giant simulator gym. It's where the kids can practice with their mutations in a controlled setting. That's my classroom. It's also the evacuation shelter, in case of a disaster. You know, like an earthquake or tornado. Or an invasion. I'll show you as we move that way."
She smiled, and pushed off of the counter.
Outside of the classrooms, she continued on down the hall, pointing out their various purposes, and waving to the other teachers they encountered.
From his expression, Neena guessed Alexander would be returning to the Library later, for a more extension exploration.
She led him back down the hallway, then to the basement stairs. She stopped at a metal door with a touch pad next to it.
"This is the Danger Room," she explained as the door whisked open. "It's open to anyone, but no kids under sixteen allowed in alone."
The lights brightened, revealing the large, and empty, area. Other than the sleek, sliver walls, and the Observation Room at the top, it was really quite plain.
"This is a simulator gym, of sorts," she explained. "If you're ever looking for me, I'll probably be here or outside somewhere. And, like I said, in the event we need to evacuate, this is where we come."

Alex was especially interested in using this room. Before today, he had not used his powers for several years, and he was eager to now.
"So, could I just stroll in and mess around here when you aren't around?"
"Anything else I should know about the danger room?"
"So, could I just stroll in and mess around here when you aren't around?"
Neena nodded, and headed toward the Observation Room. "Well, let me show you how it works first, but yeah. Pretty much."
"Anything else I should know about the danger room?"
She paused mid-step, thinking. Then, "Don't use any difficulty higher than five, unless you plan on getting hurt. And don't let the kids try and trick you into it either. Very few mutants are immortal, and there is a reason this is called the Danger Room."
She hoped that hadn't scared him. They didn't intentionally set kids loose in here and hope they didn't kill each other. The exercises were controlled. However, people could die in the everday home, simply by slipping in the bathtub. You had to find a balance somewhere between padded room and minefield.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After spending around ten minutes showing Alexander the basic workings of the simulator gym, she shut the system down and headed back out toward the door.
"Well, that's about everything of major import, I believe. Shall we get your luggage and get you set up in a room? Or did you have any questions?" she asked.
"Don't use any difficulty higher than five, unless you plan on getting hurt. And don't let the kids try and trick you into it either. Very few mutants are immortal, and there is a reason this is called the Danger Room."
"Difficulty levels...? So, by 'simulator gym', you meant it in the virtual reality sense? Then how exactly would somebody get hurt in here?"
"Difficulty levels...? So, by 'simulator gym', you meant it in the virtual reality sense? Then how exactly would somebody get hurt in here?"
"Only part of it is virtual. We also use robots, however. Plus, whenever you work with mutants who don't know the extents of their abilities, things can get a bit.... unpredictable."
"What exactly are you simulating here, anyway?"
Neena leaned against the hallway wall. "Well, like I said, most of the residents here don't know what all they can do. They can be a danger to themselves, each other and the rest of the world. This room allows them to train in a controlled environment. It's like a mutant-friendly gym for olympic athletes. Intense training if you want."
Alex sensed that perhaps there was something she was reluctant to tell him. Or perhaps she just got caught up in the moment and forgot to explain it to him?
"Yes, but what does the gym simulate, exactly? Why would you need to use robots?"
"Yes, but what does the gym simulate, exactly? Why would you need to use robots?"
Neena tilted her head, a tad confused. "Everything, basically," she replied matter-of-factly. From the way he had worded his statement, she guessed he wanted specifics, so she held out her hand and began ticking off various things.
"Mazes, target practice, obstacle courses, object retrieval, strategy courses, martial arts training, boxing, other combat training, weightlifting for both physicals and telekinetics, flight training, controlled burn for pyros...." She continued listing off a number of other exercises and scenarios that the Danger Room Users went through.
"Plus exercises can be done either solo or teamed. And, of course, some of the adults have their own personal programs that they practice with. The robots are there to practice with and on, depending on what you're practicing, with holoprojectors to give them a realistic feel."
She shrugged, and smiled. "This way the kids can practice with their mutations, and not worry about hurting anyone. Or being ridiculed."
After retrieving his bags, she led him up the stairs to the dorms. "Girls live in that hallway," she pointed to the right, "boys down there," then left, "and adults down the center. The Infirmary is also at the end of the center hallway."
She moved down the center hall, scanning for an empty room. Finding one, she unlocked it and swung the door open.
The adult rooms were slightly bigger than the kids', with a small sitting area, but the furnishings were still quite simple; two beds and sets of drawers, a desk, closet, and bathroom.
"Feel free to decorate however you'd like," she told him, handing over the key. "Let me know if you need anything, 'kay?"
She smiled, and waited to see if he had any other questions or requests. If not, she'd head back downstairs to raid the fridge once more, before returning to that accursed contraption of keys and buttons.
