The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

For someone so light and airy, she certainly seemed to be weighted down with something. He looked down at himself, all snuggled up. He was actually a bit hot now. Figured. He pulled the covers back and slung his legs over the edge, stretching his arms and rolling his neck around in a circle. "Well, I feel well enough now. We can probably get back to it. I guess I should take advantage of the good weather and see if I can't do at least one of those holes in the wall outside."
With that, he stood up and drank the rest of the water she had brought. He looked across at her and smiled. The air was a bit stifling with possibility. " I need a sec in there.", he said, pointing past her towards the bathroom. He waved the empty water bottle in his hand. As he passed her, he came terribly close scooting by. As he turned to close the door, he said," Down in the shed, there is a bag of quikrete, quick drying concrete. If you want to head down there and bring the wheelbarrow around, we'll fill it with some mix and see if we can't get one of those walls fixed with our good bricks." He closed the door, adding," Be down in a sec." Relief.
It had been a while since Ghost had seen Garrett. She felt slightly obliged to him, as he helped her find a sense of purpose. He had helped her essentially find a reason to be alive and that was something that she was really grateful for. Food seemed to go over well with Garrett so this time she'd grabbed some snacks before she showed up at his door in the middle hall. She felt comfortable around Garrett and so it was easy to find herself standing in the hallway in front of his door. She wasn't entirely sure why she was there. Sure, she felt that he had helped her, but it was more than that. They'd really become friends... or something.
She rapped her knuckles on his door quietly so that she would not disturb anyone else on the hall. "Garrett?" She called softly in an unsure voice. Maybe he wasn't home?
Garrett had taken a shower to wash the electrode gel residue from his body. It may say odorless on the tube, but after you smell it for years, it isn't. That and the fact that everything was still sticking to him made him go right in. When he had come out, he put on some boxers he had bought while he was out and put the clothes from the trash bag into the closet. He stood there, staring into the closet, amazed. Not only did he have his own room, but a wardrobe too. He set out a few incense burners and lit some sandalwood cones, his favorite scent.
In the bag there were still the small mirrors. As he decided on their placement in the room, there was a light knock. He heard Ghost's voice. A voice he had missed. " Be right there." he replied. He almost went to open the door and realized he was still only in boxers. Not the way to answer the door. He hurriedly put on a pair of khaki shorts and a random T-shirt from the closet. This one was maroon and said Paul's Ferry Day Camp on the front. He opened the door, the scent of the incense intermingling with the scent of Ghost made for a stunning combination. "Hello, my friend. What brings you here?"
She wasn't entirely sure why she'd come so instead of answering she raised her hands to show him the latest offering of food she was bringing. In one hand she had swiped a whole bag of baby carrots from the fridge. In the other hand she had two plastic bottles of apple juice. She realized that her snack seemed like the perfect meal for a preschooler. "I brought a snack." She said lamely. He'd been fairly non-picky about their last meals so she wasn't worried that he would turn down food, but she did feel a little silly now that she realized her simple choices.
She immediately noticed the sandalwood as the scent trickled into the hallway. "Oh! It smells good in there... have any space left on your bed for me?" She smiled with no real idea of any implications of what she'd just said.
So she did. It looked like it might be nap time right after some Dora or Blue's Clues next. The idea made him smirk, but there was no way he would unleash his sarcasm on her this early. "Great. Come in." He stepped from the doorway, revealing some of the new items. He smiled and did a stage bow and a bit of a flourish. "You're always welcome here."
When she asked if there was space on his bed for her, it took a Herculean amount of willpower not to mention the many things he would have liked to. He decided on a different tactic. " Take all of it. I still have some arranging to do here." He started taking the small hexagonal mirrors from the trash bag and placing them in a stack on the nightstand. " Would you mind closing the door behind you? I don't want to offend anyone who doesn't enjoy incense." Now that was impressive. Even made sense! he thought.
She hadn't bothered to bring shoes and so there was nothing for her to leave at the door this time. She noticed the mirrors among the other things he had recently acquired. He spoke and it took her mind a full breath to realize that he had been speaking to her.
"Would you mind closing the door behind you? I don't want to offend anyone who doesn't enjoy incense."
"Oh. Of course." She closed the door without a second thought before she tossed the snack onto his bed.
"Looks like you've been busy. Where'd ya get all of this? Ghost motioned to the incense before literally hopping onto the bed. He'd said she could take all of it, so she folded her legs underneath her as she settled into the middle. She righted the bottles of juice on the night stand before breaking open the bag of carrots.
"You following proper Fuu Sui?" She opted for the Japanese pronunciation of the kanji, not knowing the Chinese. She recognized elements of the practice of feng shui, though wasn't entirely familiar with the practices herself.
"Looks like you've been busy. Where'd ya get all of this?"
He reached over and got a few carrots from her as he finished folding up clothes from the trash bag. "I got the clothes from the Salvation Army thrift shop. Got lots of clothes for very little money." He was proud of his frugal nature. "As for the incense and the mirrors, I think I may have gotten a job today. I found a shop near the park where a spirit medium practices. The guy seems really cool and he is also a mutant like us. He is going to let me work there and I am going to help him learn about the spiritual world." He was smiling. It really was a sweet deal.
When the clothes were all put away, he used the trash bag to put his dirty clothes in. He wandered around the room, picking up socks and clothes, putting them in the bag, then putting the bag in the closet. "All finished" he said, sitting on the edge of the bed near her. He drank some juice and added, " Feng Shui? Yes. Nothing official, as I don't really have the right kind of space to do it properly. I was going to hang these mirrors in the room to correct the energy flow in the room, however."
Once she had seen the incense, she really couldn't help her mind from wandering away on its own again. maybe he'd let her burn a stick of incense for her mom in front of the ihai? but then he said something that really made it hard for her to focus on the words Garrett was speaking.
A medium? Like... like a contact with the spirit world? She wondered if it would be a good or very, very, very bad idea for her to visit this medium. For one thing, her name was ... misleading in the spiritual aspect of her mutation and ... well, aliveness. She shifted uncomfortably. She had decided not to dwell on things and here she was trying to see if there was a way to look bad. She wasn't entirely happy with herself in that moment. She needed to just let go already, but something always bugged her about it. It was always there in the back of her mind, waiting for her to put the last piece of the puzzle into place.
She realized sheepishly that she hadn't been paying attention again when Garrett took a seat at the edge of the bed. She tried to recall what he had just asked her, but she had to ask him to repeat himself before she could get a grip on where the conversation had gone without her. My, she was spacing today.
"That's really neat... about the job." She clarified, trying to at least be supportive about the last detail she had caught before going on to answer his question.
What had she been doing? "Well, I visited a Hindu Temple in honor of Shoten-sama. He's a deity with new beginnings in his portfolio." She added just in case he didn't already know. She wasn't sure what he would make of her visiting a Mandir. She wasn't sure what she believed and so it was more along the lines that she needed to mentally make a resolve. Visiting a deity made it easier for her to believe that she could make the changes she needed.
"Then... I went for some coffee." She seemed to relive a bit of her discomfort as she thought about it. "At the Mandir, there was a man who had four arms. He bought me some coffee." She said coffee as if it were a vile and unwholesome thing. "There were several mu... people like us there. Uh... five of us total? The people were a little nervous with such a gathering, I guess. Mr. multiple-arms said... wrote some nasty things that made the others leave. I don't think he meant it. He just wasn't thinking properly." Her propensity for always believing the best in others was showing true to form.
She made solid eye contact with Garrett for a moment and a place in her upper abdomen fluttered airily. She decided that she must've been hungry so she chomped into another carrot.
While Garrett had been talking, he had noticed how Ghost seemed to drift away as she watched the incense burn. Incense was a focus for air elementals, so it would make sense that they would be interested in them. She seemed to light up when he was talking about the shop. Perhaps she needed a medium herself. Garrett had no interest in speaking to spirits. He feared that those he had tortured in the camps might come to haunt him without the help of a channel.
"A Hindu Temple? Interesting. I hope we both find a new beginning here at the school." Together. he added from the safety of his thoughts. The more time he spent around Ghost, the more time he wanted to. It wasn't merely her appearance, which was beautiful to Garrett, but just her way. He could see why others gravitated to her. Perhaps it was her light, airy way in a time where things were so heavy.
"Then... I went for some coffee."
He thought it was particularly funny that she seemed to put the emphasis on the coffee rather than the man with four arms. She hesitated on mutants too. So many like him had felt apprehensive of humans and being around them in a group. But he felt that they had rights. Not only were they as good as humans, they were better. Humans generally fear and destroy things they didn't understand. But that gave no human the right to judge. "Five all together huh? I am surprised they didn't call the riot squad." , he said with a chuckle. "And what do you mean this four armed guy wrote things to them? Like a note?" What was this, passing notes in homeroom? Four arms could do alot of passing, he thought.
She looked up at him for a moment and their eyes met. Garrett wished he could put every moment like that in a bottle and have it whenever he liked. Her soothing brown eyes were so easy to look into. He smiled at her glance and then said, " Oh, I went to the Infirmary and got some help from the DocProf. I may not have seizures anymore." He said it like it were a common thing, but inside he was very excited at the prospect.
Ah. So he had picked up on the note thing. Well, she hadn't wanted to misrepresent, but she didn't especially look forward to explaining it. "Apparently the man, Iesland, has no tongue. He was born with one, but... he uhm... doesn't have one anymore. It wasn't recent, but.." She fidgeted letting the comment hang in the air. She was really beginning to dislike tongues and the lack thereof.
He mentioned his meeting with DocProf as if it were nothing. She'd vaguely heard of the resident healer, but she'd never met him personally. She wasn't familiar enough with Garrett yet to understand his mixed expression, but she thought that he was understating things a bit. She didn't know what it was like - to have a seizure - but it couldn't be pleasant. She knew people who had seizures were often barred from simple pleasures like being able to drive and if it was really bad, even being alone was forbidden."That - that's good right? No more seizures! Congratulations." She smiled exposing her one lonely dimple, the reason why her real smile was slightly lopsided.
"Should... we celebrate or something? We could go watch a blinking light or something." She teased.
"Should... we celebrate or something? We could go watch a blinking light or something."
He laughed out loud at the prospect. He knew she was joking, but it was nice to hear some humor from her. It only made her shine brighter. "Celebrate, absolutely. Blinking light? Hmm, well I think I know of some lights we can look at. Would you like to go out to the city with me?" This was the opportunity and this was the time to ask. He continued his pseudo-stoicism as he got more and more excited. Nothing could take these times away from him. He had certainly put the effort in on everything so far, it was about time that he relaxed a bit and had some fun. Who better to share good times with than her?
He stood from the bed and looked in his closet for socks and his shoes. He hoped he wasn't getting ready for nothing, but he felt he had a better than average chance of getting her to go with him. If she was as happy just sitting here talking to him, she would certainly have a good time enjoying the city with him. He also still had a good bit of money left since he had thrifted clothes and not had to pay for anything at Tarin's shop. He tried to act as nonchalant as possible, but he was buzzing with hope of her saying yes.
"Celebrate, absolutely. Blinking light? Hmm, well I think I know of some lights we can look at. Would you like to go out to the city with me?"
"Yeah!" She hopped up in a flourish of movement and excitement. Sitting around at the mansion waiting for something to happen got old at times and she had yet to feel like she owned this city. There was always something new to see there and people to meet. It seemed ever time she went out something good happened. Well, almost. But she determined that they would find something more interesting to do in the city than in Garrett's bedroom.
"Lemmie go get my shoes." Before he could protest, she was gone. Down the hall, through the corridor and into the only open door by the end of the girl's hall. She closed it briefly and in a matter of breaths she was speeding back through the halls to Garrett's hallway with a fresh shirt. She held some slip-on shoes in her hand not ready to surrender her toes freedom just yet.
He had been primping in the mirror what bit he could. Being virtually hairless had its good points as shaving was unnecessary. He brushed his teeth and then grabbed a jacket from his closet. It might be cool where they were going. He had thought of it the moment she had mentioned blinking lights. It was a place he had gone many times on the streets. This would be the first time he would be paying though. There was always a free way in, you just had to look hard enough.
When she popped in, he came out and locked the door behind him dutifully. From there they went out and got a cab. Before they got to the cab, Garrett said' "Wait a sec." and talked to the driver about their destination. Then he turned and nodded to Ghost, coming around and opening the car door for her. He had thought about the fact that she could have literally flew into the window, but this wasn't a time for abilities, it was a time for friends.
