The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Lee had been in Toronto for a while by this point. How long, well, she wasn't exactly sure, the days were kind of blending together at this point, and she really didn't see a need to keep track. As long as she made it to work so she wasn't fired, Lee really didn't see any reason to keep better track of time than that. Rachael didn't seem to like that point of view, but after that 'talk' she had forced Lee into, Lee really wasn't caring. She was trying harder to at least make it look like she was getting over things, going out, doing things, trying not to brood over what had happened in the camp and with Tarin. She had even gone so far as to call Mrs. Marz so as to return Ryan's guitar to her, and spent an entire afternoon talking with the woman.
So, that being her day off, Lee had taken to her typical wandering around, being in public places so that she could siphon enough energy to get by. She was sure that Rachael would view a day simply spent walking around as not doing anything, though, so she had ended up making her way to Yorkdale, really not much of a walk considering her normal treks, to do some shopping.
Hours later, the sun was already starting to grow lower in the summer sky, Lee was walking back toward where she was staying with Rachael, a couple of bags in her hand. She had bought another pair of heels, something she had taken to doing quite a bit lately since she no longer had her boots to wear all the time.
Turning, Lee decided to cut through a nearby park to save herself walking a few blocks. It was a nice little place, a track of nature in the middle of the city. Nothing like Central Park, but Lee knew that nothing would actually be able to compare to New York. At least with the park being smaller, it meant that Lee wouldn't have to spend too long walking along the gravel path in heels.
Acheron had been roaming the wilderness and the various cities. The days passed and blended together while he was in felid form, that he no longer knew what day it was or how many days had passed since he was last in human form.
He had found his way to a small park, and passed a street labeled "Keele Street." This area was so busy that he was on edge all the time. This park was the place that he kept his sanity in such a city.
Acheron kept to the sparse bushes along the walkway when he spotted someone. He stopped. He stared. He thought. Then he recognized her. He didn't know when he last saw her, since the days had blended to one big mass of time. What was her name?
"Lee."
In an instant, he had changed from the brown bengal cat to his rarely-used human form. He took a step away from the bushes and toward the woman with the bags. Then he stopped.
Like she often was when she was walking, Lee was kind of off in her own little world. She was trying not to really think about anything in particular, but at the same time she wasn't exactly paying all that great attention to where she was and what was around her.
At least she hadn't been until she heard a rather loud rustle in the bushes up ahead on the left of the path. She was about halfway through the park by this time, a fair distance to an actual street at either end. But she had just been in a crowded mall for a number of hours; despite not actually touching anyone, Lee had managed to still accumulate a fair bit of energy. Still, she slowed down a touch and was more cautious as she continued.
Until she heard her name. Hearing that, just the one word, Lee stopped dead, her eyes darting around as she tried to figure out who was there. As soon as she had stopped, Lee felt energy flowing toward her. Not much, but more than she had felt just a moment earlier. Or was it just because she was now paying attention to her siphoning? Regardless of the reason, Lee was also able to determine where the voice had come from by the energy she was now feeling, and turned to look just in time to see a young man step out of the bushes.
Lee stayed where she was, the cautiousness and worry still there for a moment, before she recognized him. Then the worry was replaced by curiosity, and Lee's head cocked to the side slightly as she took a small step forward.
"Acheron?" Lee asked, truly puzzled. "What are you doing here?"
Acheron took in Lee's cocked head and knew he should smile there. Yet it didn't come... for whatever reason. Instead, his focus went to her question. "Lots of people; crazy city. I escaped to this place," he replied, indicating the park. He had no idea that Lee was asking what he was doing in Canada.
He answered her question, though not quite how she had expected him to, and Lee kept her head cocked to the side as she looked over at the younger man. As he indicated the park as his escape, Lee couldn't help but look around. It really wasn't much, she had grown far too used to Central park in the year and a half she had been in New York, but it was far better than simply a small playground on a barren patch of ground stuck between buildings.
"Yeah, my sister thinks I have to actually do something everyday, so I went shopping," Lee explained, lifting her bags up slightly. It was only then that Lee really took in Acheron's clothing. They looked in worse shape than the last time she had seen him so many months earlier, though at least there wasn't snow on the ground this time so he wasn't freezing.
"How long since you've cleaned up and had a decent meal?" Lee asked, slowly closing the distance between them.
"I clean everyday," Acheron started to say, but realized that Lee was asking when was the last time he'd cleaned up as a human. He frowned slightly; he couldn't remember. As for the last time he'd eaten... perhaps it wasn't a good idea to tell Lee that he'd eaten something this morning.
"I don't remember," he said instead. "You found something good, then, while shopping?"
He cleaned every day? One of Lee's eyebrows raised slightly as she looked him over, at the state of his clothing, at the shagginess of his hair. But then he frowned as if in thought, and Lee remembered exactly how she had first met this guy: he had transformed from a cat into a man right in front of her. Ok, so maybe he did clean every day, but that's not how she had meant her question.
Acheron seemed to realize that as well, and he changed his answer to saying he didn't remember the last time he'd gotten to clean up and eat properly.
"Something good you'd be able to use?" Lee asked, glancing down at the bags she was carrying. "No, I doubt it. And I'm really not much of a cook, but I think there's still some leftover lasagna in the fridge from last night." Lee paused a moment as she closed the remaining space, leaving only a couple feet between them. "You want to help me finish it off?"
Something he could use? Acheron wasn't sure he'd meant to ask for that answer. Perhaps his wording was wrong. In fact, he was sure of it. He frowned a moment until he heard the word lasagna. He perked up, having remembered what lasagna was; he hadn't since... since the last time he'd gone to school.
Acheron's mouth watered at the thought of eating something other than stringy prey. Lee stepped closer and he twitched, freezing in place. Every time someone had laid a hand on him, it had been to beat him or otherwise cause him hurt. He fought the urge to flee, and a few moments later it subsided enough for him to answer.
He met Lee's eyes determinedly and nodded. "Yes. I like lasagna." Remembering manners that had long been unused, he added, "Thank you."
Lee saw Acheron's flinch as she got closer to him and stopped moving. She couldn't remember if she had told him about her powers before, or if she had, how much about her powers she had shared with him, but apparently the younger man wasn't too comfortable with her coming closer. Yes, it hurt, it wasn't like she was really siphoning more now than she had been when she was those couple feet back, after all. And it wasn't like she was actually going to touch him. Not if she could help it, anyway.
But he seemed happy about her invitation for dinner, so Lee nodded. "Let's go, it's not too much further, then," she said as she started walking once more, though slower than she had been before she ran across the cat.
Lee had told the truth, and before too much longer, she unlocked the door to the place she was sharing with Rachael and her roommate. Boy, that in itself was strange, having roommates.
"Did you want to clean up or eat first?" Lee asked, setting her bags down on the floor in the kitchen and flicking the light on. "You're a bit bigger than me, but I'm sure I can find something for you to wear that's clean."
Acheron followed Lee, flinching whenever someone passed them - even if they were five feet away. Soon enough, they reached Lee's place. As he entered, Acheron instinctively sniffed... forgetting he wasn't currently a cat.
Human form. Bah. Can't smell anything.
The place had a very... homey look. No matter where he looked, there seemed to be an item of interest that seemed not to be factory-made. Acheron didn't look around too much as his attention was redirected by Lee.
Very brief was his consideration. He'd eaten something that morning and was a bit hungry, but he recalled that people tended to warm their food up before eating it. "I'll clean up," he said, looking around in slight confusion. "Where...?"
Lee nodded as she heard Acheron say he'd rather clean up before eating. Up the stairs Lee led him, pausing at the closet in the hallway to grab a fresh towel. Then she stopped beside the bathroom door.
Then Lee didn't really know what else to do as she stood there. So she simply held out the towel, making sure to be holding it in a way that Acheron could take it without having to even risk brushing her skin. "Just in there, I'll go look for something for you to wear."
Once Acheron took the towel and turned to the bathroom, Lee made her way into her bedroom and started shifting through her dresser and closet looking for something she could let the man borrow that would even somewhat fit him.
Finally, thrown to the bottom of a pile of clothing, Lee found a pair of Tarin's shorts that must have gotten mixed in with her stuff before she left New York because she had worn them running at one point. Figuring that would probably be her best bet, Lee grabbed them and grabbed the largest t-shirt she could find, then went to knock on the bathroom door.
Acheron followed Lee as she led him up stairs, watched her grab a towel - slightly pink, and they stopped at the bathroom. "Thanks," he remembered to say as he took the towel from her in what could only be described as a gingerly manner, before he turned to clean up.
He took a moderate amount of time, having forgotten - for a brief minute or two - how to make the water come out of the faucet. Acheron played in the water that flowed out, like a tiger in water, before remembering that he was there to clean up.
Acheron had finished quick-rubbing his hair dry and had discarded his towel... when there was a knock on the door. He opened the door without a thought, caring not that he wore his birthday suit, or that his hair was going in every which direction. He had no shame, having spent majority of his time with animals.
Lee stood there waiting for Acheron to open the door after she knocked, the clothing hanging over her arm as she stood.
When the door opened, Lee didn't think anything of it immediately; she had seen Tarin right after showers on many occasions, and just figured that he was wearing a towel around his waist. A moment later, Lee realized her mistake as her eyes drifted slightly lower and she noticed that he wasn't wearing anything.
A bright blush quickly covering her face, Lee locked her eyes on Acheron's face. "Uh, yeah," Lee sort of stammered, the blush still clearly evident on her face, holding out the shorts and t-shirt. "I found this. Might not fit perfectly, but it's the best I have."
Acheron saw Lee outside the door with clothes. He flinched and saw her look at him, a split second before her face turned red. She offered him the clothes and he took it from her. Could he keep these?
Instead of asking that, though, the words that left his mouth were "Why is your face red?"
Acheron took the clothing from her outstretched hand, still not seemingly caring or noticing the fact that he was standing there naked. As if that wasn't shocking or surprising enough, when he opened his mouth, Lee could only blink at him for a moment.
"I, uh," Lee stammered, her face still bright red as she made sure her eyes stayed squarely on Acheron's face as she spoke. "I didn't mean...I mean..."
What did she mean? She knew she had suddenly been embarassed by what she had seen, but the fact of the matter was she wasn't the one who was standing there naked; Acheron was, he was the one who had opened the door, and he didn't seem to have any issues or problems with that fact. And another fact was that Acheron was quite good looking, something Lee hadn't fully realized before he had cleaned up.
"I thought you'd have a...a towel or something," she ended up settling on.
