The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

"Dad's not overly fond of people with our 'sickness,' and some places aren't very tolerant of individuality." She wrinkled her nose in return. "I'm pretty sure dad's the reason why I'm here in the first place." She sighed. Neena had opened the proverbial flood gates. "NYU was an empty promise. Mom's dead. Dad sent me to mutie camp rather than pay for student loans -- so here I am. I'm ready to live in swiss cheese land."
She sighed, her tone softened all her bitterness was spent for the moment. "Yes, I'm used to hiding, but who isn't at this point?"
She unconsciously ran her fingers along the slight marks on her wrists. Her wrists were marked because she had tried many times to slip out of her camp bracelets. She was convinced that she could become incorporeal faster than the shock would come. The electricity had traveled faster every time. It had been maddening to be in a stagnant room. It had been maddening to be alone, but she told herself that she wouldn't be anymore.
"Dad's not overly fond of people with our 'sickness,' and some places aren't very tolerant of individuality."
Neena nodded. She was all too familiar with prejudice, on numerous levels.
"I'm pretty sure dad's the reason why I'm here in the first place. NYU was an empty promise. Mom's dead. Dad sent me to mutie camp rather than pay for student loans -- so here I am. I'm ready to live in swiss cheese land."
She thought she heard bitterness in Ghost's voice. She had a sudden flashback of the feelings her own grandmother's hatred elicited.
"Yes, I'm used to hiding, but who isn't at this point?"
Silence stretched between the two for a moment, and Ghost became overly interested in the scars on her wrist. Finally she reached out to place a hand over the girl's wrist.
"Well then," she said gently, "I guess now is as good a time as any to stop the hide'n'seek game, and start that new life. Though I think living in Swiss Cheese Land might stink after awhile...." She winked to show she was joking.
Her stomach chose that moment to growl rather loudly. Neena shook her head. "Okay, now I know you're lying. I just fed you!" She rolled her eyes, then in typical Unpredictable Neena-style, changed the subject a bit.
"I'm going to have to see about getting some clothes myself. Hmm.... need money first. Wonder if my account is still active?" she mused, half to herself.
Neena placed her hand on Ghost's wrist, bringing her attention back to the present. "Well then," she said gently, "I guess now is as good a time as any to stop the hide'n'seek game, and start that new life. Though I think living in Swiss Cheese Land might stink after awhile...." She winked and Maya truly felt comforted.
Then Neena's stomach let out a rather voracious gurgle and at that Maya ducked her head and laughed a little. Maya's stomach felt uncomfortably full even though she was still hungry. She couldn't help but watch bemusedly as Neena had a word with her stomach. Actually, Maya thought that something sweet and possibly liquid fit the bill for her own hunger. Juice? Maybe a shake?
"I'm going to have to see about getting some clothes myself. Hmm.... need money first. Wonder if my account is still active?" Neena wondered out loud. Maya had no idea if Neena's accounts were active so she was entirely bewildered as to why she would ask her. Sudden changes in conversation and personalities never really phased her. People were often like wind, ever changing, though some more quickly than others.
"Are you planning on going shopping?" She asked timidly. She didn't especially enjoy shopping, but it was a necessary evil.
Neena shrugged. "Eventually, unless I can find someone to do it for me, or get online and shop for me. Once the doctors are through, that is. I hate doctors. Nothing but quacks with needles....." she muttered and grimaced.
"What about you, kiddo? How much longer will those Lab-coated lackeys keep you here?"
Her stomach growled again, but she decided to ignore it for the time being. Maybe some water would calm it down later.
