Individual
Character's full name: Jac Knight Alias/ Nickname/ Code name: N/A Gender: Female Age: 23 Date of Birth: August 6, 2000 Birthplace/ Home/ Place of origin: New York City, NY Ethnicity/ Cultural Heritage: White
Appearance
Hair color and style: Dark brunette hair that comes down just below her shoulders. Jac typically wears her hair down, but occasionally pulls it back in a messy bun. Skin Tone: Light skin Eye Color: Green Height: 5’ 6” Build: Athletic. General Physical Capabilities: (Strength/Speed/Reflexes/Stamina/Flexibility) Jac’s physical capabilities are more or less that of an average runner. If she starts running, you’ll be hard-pressed to catch her (unless, of course, you’re the fastest human alive). Beyond that, she’s more or less your average everyday human. Other features: (Scars/tattoos/piercings, visible mutations, or any other feature. if applicable) Jac has a tattoo of a flying raven on her left arm, a symbol of both death and freedom. Everyday clothing style: Jac tries to cover up as much as possible to avoid people touching her accidentally. She always wears a pair of gloves and bright, colorful layers. Uniform: N/A
Character
Personality: If there was one word to describe Jac, it’d be sassy. If there were a second word, it’d be quirky. She’s quick to humor, especially of the self-deprecating kind. She’s usually the loudest person in the room, though. It’s a sort of facade she puts on because she craves affection, even if she can’t have it.
Jac is super vigilant when it comes to anyone in her personal space, due to her mutation. She’s seen too many people go from friendly to enemies in the blink of an eye. She flinches if anyone even gets close to her, which is terrible when taking the subway.
Morality: Neutral. Jac’s seen enough of the world where the good people are never truly good. Others peg her as evil, so she often wonders if other “evil” people are in the same boat. She’s not one to take sides without hearing the full story. And even then, it doesn’t take much to corrupt a “good” image of anyone. Hobbies/ Interests: Jac’s a cinephile and avid book reader. Since she can’t be around people, she tries to find her social needs elsewhere. Job or part time job and description: Jac works as a librarian for the NYC Public Library. She just started a few months ago, but it’s the longest job she’s held in several years. Inevitably, something will go wrong, she’ll accidentally touch someone, then people won’t see her the same, and she realizes it’ll be better that she left. Fears/ phobias/ concerns: She’s always afraid someone will touch her and see her differently as a result. Above all, handshakes. Jac is terrified of them. Special talents: Jac is EXCELLENT at assembling things with her hands: You’ve got Ikea furniture that needs assembling? Jac’s the person to call. She’s very gifted mechanically.
Mutations
Mutation description: Jac has a peculiar mutation that when she comes in skin-to-skin contact with a person, she immediately sees their darkest memories. (Death of a loved one; the time they got mugged in an alleyway; vomiting in front of everyone during a spelling bee, etc.) Not only that, but the memory flashes in front of that person’s mind as well, and most people can put together what’s going on.
Weaknesses and Limitations: Jac is pulled into the memory for as long as she’s in contact with the person, but has a difficult time pulling herself away. It’s almost like she’s caught in a trance, so the victim typically has to pull away instead. Additionally, even if it’s just a brief bump in the street, the memories still haunt Jac.
Jac also sees the memories through the person's perspective as if she were seeing, feeling, and sensing it herself. The memory is also fresh like how the person experienced it, rather than the fuzziness that comes with time.
History Of Your Character Jac was the girl everyone looked up–the stereotypical popular girl. In high school, she was the head cheerleader dating the captain of the football team. Everyone expected that this would continue when she went off to college. And for the first couple of years, it did. She was on the cheerleading squad, making a name for herself on campus, but during a football game, she was flying high when something... changed.
The base supporting her touched her ankle and his worst memory came to life before Jac’s eyes: Jac saw him in a hospital room, watching his grandmother take her last breath of life from his perspective. Jac was frozen, not knowing what was going on–was this a dream? Was it a memory? She didn’t know, but she could feel the overwhelming emotions from the memory. The base dropped Jac (breaking her ankle in the process, but minor detail) and realized what had happened.
After that incident, it wasn’t long before rumors spread about Jac: the trauma bringer. She went from the most popular girl on campus... to the most avoided. Anytime she accidentally touched a person, she saw their face shift and turn on her. Soon, Jac began to withdraw further and further.
Upon graduating college, Jac tried to secure a job, but things never seemed to last long. Her personality might have gotten her far, but she was an odd one: always wearing gloves, long-sleeved shirts in the middle of summer. Inevitably, someone would accidentally brush her skin and the cycle would begin again. She’s only been out of college for a couple of years, but she’s had five jobs in that short span of time.
Roleplay What’s your OOC/Discord alias you’ll be using?: @dapperdragon10 Where did you learn about this site?: I used to be active on this site years ago (2012-2014 maybe?), and have just kept it in my memory since. Do you have any other characters on MRO, if so who: Years ago, yes. But they have long since been active. Sample RP: Tick... Tock... Tick... Tock...
Jac groaned as the second hand continued its journey around the large clock face nearby. Only an hour more until her shift ended. Only an hour more of dodging hands. Only an hour more until sweet freedom... But was it truly freedom? Jac knew exactly how tonight would end: a date on her couch with her favorite two boys: Ben and Jerry–if she can bear the inevitable stares on the subway, that is. Because we all know how normal a coat and gloves are in the middle of summer, Jac thought to herself.
Tick... Tock... Tick... Tock...
As she glanced up for solace from her boredom, she locked eyes with a man across the room. With his wavy hair, toned arms, and a shirt that fit him snug, there was no doubt about it: he was attractive... and coming Jac’s way! “Dammit,” she cursed under her breath. She quickly looked away, hoping that he wouldn’t try to talk to her, but before she knew it...
“Excuse me,” the stranger began, “I’m looking for a good series to pick up. I’ve heard good things about this one.” Jac glances down at the book in his hand–one of those true crime romance series that spans 50+ books.
She chuckles to herself. “One of my favorites. True crime and romance. What’s not to love? Although...” Jac looks around her desk, her eyes landing on the first novel in the series on a cart nearby. “You may prefer reading the first in the series, rather than the 30th.”
“What would I do without you?” Jac’s breath catches in her throat as he smiles at her like one of those model campaigns she sees around the city.
Breathe, Jac, she reminds herself. It’s not like this could go anywhere. One touch and he’d be out of here. With a heavy sigh, Jac holds the novel out in her gloved hand. As much as she may want to continue flirting with the Adonis in front of her, the world has other plans.
But as he takes the book, time freezes. Tick... to–
Suddenly, Jac’s mind isn’t in the library. It’s in a house: the stranger’s childhood house. She’s in a living room, cringing on a couch as a red-faced man looms over her, yelling. “You’re no son of mine, Victor! I’m done cleaning up your messes.”
“Dad, I swear I didn’t mean t-to,” Victor stammers. “It was an accident. I-I’ll pay for the damage–”
“No. You knew what that car meant to me.” Victor’s father grabs him by the shirt and drags him across the house to the front door. Victor sobs as his dad throws him onto the sidewalk. “I don’t want to see your face again.” The door slams in his face as he contemplates what to do.
Just as sudden as it started, Jac’s back in her mind as Victor pulls away from her in fear. He sees the shared recognition in her eyes. “Y-you saw that,” he states factually.
“I can explain–” Jac starts, holding her palms out in an offer of peace.
“No! Get away from me, you mutant freak!” Victor scrambles away, hurriedly leaving the library.
Jac sighs and returns the forgotten book to the shelf. She looks down at her gloves, noticing a small hole: the culprit of today’s incident. I knew he was too good to be true.
