The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

The doctor nodded, recognizing the uncertainty from the father. "It's not certain. Your wife is just starting to approach the point where we might be able to pick that detail out. We might not see anything, but I like to know what the parents do and do not want to know before I start checking."
Feeling goosebumps as gel was spread on her stomach, Becca did not want to jump to the assumption that they would see anything. It was not the biggest deal, finding out one way or another. Sex was sex and it only told them so much. This was even truer when the father of the child shifted sex daily. "If we can see, we see it. Ah'm fine knowin' if there's somethin' tae know." Oh, and while she was at it, she should clarify. "Also, nae married. Fer th' record. Grey an' Morris," she pointed out.
The doctor did not judge; he only chuckled. "Fair enough. I've had married couples with different last names, so I didn't want to assume. Though I guess this was assuming, too."
While their doctor got the ultrasound want ready for Rebecca, Becca offered her hand to Gawain. "Well? Ready fer it tae gie real?"
Today was an exciting day. Gawain had a vague idea that ultrasounds were important for multiple reasons, but the main one seemed to be that they will get a blurry picture of their baby. And, apparently, maybe the sex. Of the day.
>>"It's not certain. Your wife is just starting to approach the point where we might be able to pick that detail out. We might not see anything, but I like to know what the parents do and do not want to know before I start checking."
>>"If we can see, we see it. Ah'm fine knowin' if there's somethin' tae know. Also, nae married. Fer th' record. Grey an' Morris,"
Gawain chuckled as Becca finally broke down and corrected the doctor. He took it in stride, acknowledging his mistake without making it awkward. Then again, doctors who were mutant-friendly were probably also socially progressive in general.
Becca held out one of her many hands for Gawain. She still had three others to hold up her shirt and whatnot. Gawain smiled, taking her hand.
>>"Well? Ready fer it tae gie real?"
"Totally ready." he grinned, looking at the doctor.
Dr. Haywood placed the ultrasound wand on Becca's belly, and for a while, nothing really happened. There were blurred black and white images on the screen, and silent anticipation in the room.

Rebecca kept her arms at her sides or holding up her shirt, with the exception of the one she offered to Gawain. Her mind was not on her tiredness or her juice-filled tummy anymore. She was not even thinking about the tingling feeling she got when the doctor assumed they were married. All she could feel was anticipation, and it was nice to share that with.
With held breath, Becca waited for the wand pressing against her abdomen to produce an image. The device slid along the gel on her skin.
And then the dark screen and white space shifted, and in a small opening of black space, Rebecca saw a shape come into form. The wand moved, and she could really make it out: that was her child. The baby she was waiting for.
”Holy shit,” she muttered softly, before quickly correcting herself. ”Ah mean… well… wow.” She believed this felt real before now, but she was not ready for how much this moment would hit her. She was going to have a baby. They were going to be parents. That tiny little form on the screen was the baby they were waiting to meet.
For a while, it was hard to make out anything on the screen. The doctor knew what he was doing, but it still took long moments to find the right angle and just...
>>”Holy shit... Ah mean… well… wow.”
Yeah. Wow. The little shape they could see in the picture, that was their baby. A real baby. Tucked inside Becca's belly. Gawain stared, not in any way more coherent in his thoughts than Becca was in her words. They were still holding hands.
The doctor was probably used to new parents, because he kept on adjusting the image.
"Well, I don't think we'll get to determine sex today. But we can definitely do heartbeat. Would you like to hear?"

When did Rebecca and Gawain start being adults? It was not so long ago that they were just sexually frustrated teens on a jet together. Now they were in a doctor’s office, hand in hand, looking at their future. They were really taking this next life step.
This was overwhelming in the best way. Could she even handle more of this right now? She was willing to find out. ”Aye. Yes, please.” She wanted to know her little baby was healthy.
The doctor enabled the sound and re-located the spot against Becca’s abdomen. From the monitor next to the bed, they heard it: the soft, rapid thump of a baby’s heartbeat.
Becca’s jaw hung open in awe. ”Sae fast,” she said softly.
“That is expected,” the doctor assured her. “A baby’s heartbeat is faster than an adult’s.”
That was comforting. If anyone was going to know if her baby was healthy, it would be the doctor. She could focus on the mind-boggling bliss of the consistent beating they were listening to. ”Gawain… it’s really our baby. We made a wee person…”
There was tense silence in the room a moment before the sound came on. Then there was a fluttering little heartbeat filling up everything. Gawain still sat, staring, unaware of how dumb he must have looked. The doctor probably had seen a whole lot of young people like them because he busied himself with making some notes like the lives of two people did not just change right in front of him.
>>”Gawain… it’s really our baby. We made a wee person…”
Yeah, well, Budapest was never gonna be the same.
Gawain squeezed Becca's hand, leaning over to press a kiss to her forehead. "Yeah. Yeah, we did." Not completely intentionally, but that had nothing to do with how incredibly happy and terrified he felt in that moment.
"So..." after another minute of listening to the heartbeat, Gawain tried to find his way back to reality "... do they... also have four arms?" he ventured, peering at the image "We have been working off the theory that Becks is kind of... copying whatever the baby has. Multiple powers kinda... run in the family." A big, inter-dimensional family it was.

Rebecca was learning to unpack the revelations as they hit her. She could fight any threat head-on, but nothing excited or terrified her like the heartbeat of a child she was responsible for. She was convinced, after her time watching the Mansion kids with Gawain, that they were ready to be parents. In many ways, they were already doing that with Kalos. But Kalos had agency; this was a baby. They would rely on Becca and Mirror entirely and she had to be ready for that.
The excitement in this moment far outweighed nervousness. That said, there were still questions and concerns, and Gawain was the first to float back to reality to ask.
The doctor double-checked the screen before nodding and pointing. "I wasn't sure at first, but it does look like four arms have formed. I assumed it had something to do with Miss Grey's mutation."
"Well, th' baby's mutation. It keeps passin' them along tae me. Ah suppose th' baby experiences them tay." She was unsure until that point if the baby was just giving powers or if they both had them.
"Interesting." The doctor was wonderful, but mutants were not his specialty, so he was working with DocProf to be better prepared for delivery day. "Are you tracking the powers the baby has displayed through you?"
Becca nodded. "Aye. Got a journal an' everythin' but there's been nae pattern."
That did make the doctor's smile falter briefly. "Good. Please keep that up so we have an idea of what to expect. There's no preparing for every scenario, but we will want to be ready to explore our delivery options depending on the mutation you're displaying the day the baby arrives."
They knew the pregnancy might have complications beyond the obvious, but it did not make Becca any less nervous. She just wanted to bring this baby into the world safely. "A-aye coorse. Thenk ye, Doctor Haywood."
Gawain stared at the ultrasound image again; he could hear the heartbeat, which was still mesmerizing, but to be honest, at this stage it was hard to tell one end of his child from the other. Let alone limbs.
>>"I wasn't sure at first, but it does look like four arms have formed. I assumed it had something to do with Miss Grey's mutation."
Gawain smirked, amused and worried at the same time. A four-armed baby. Cool. Becca explained their power situation to the doctor who might have been prepared for a lot of things, but he did not seem to be prepared for quite this much. They were ahead of the curve on that front, already tracking powers and having safety measures. Like not sleeping before midnight.

Rebecca was going to spend more time later thinking about her child’s mutation. The transformations complicated her day at times, but a child growing up with them might struggle worse. Having a mutant child always meant they would experience challenges a human child would not, and Rebecca knew she would be there to help her child through all that. Still, she had quietly hoped the baby would just gift powers without displaying them themselves.
No matter what, they were ready for this. At least the doctor was taking this into account and being proactive. He did catch Gawain off guard though and Becca stifled a giggle. ”Ah think th’ doctor is tiptoein’ aroond a C-Section.”
“Not tiptoeing by any means, but yes, if the day comes and your baby has a physical mutation that could cause complications for removal, we may need to consider a Cesarian. I just wanted to be sure you were prepared for that.”
”Aye, understood.” If her baby was going to be covered in spikes, she had no qualms with a plan to cut it out harmlessly.
The doctor gave her some additional instructions on how to take care of herself and the baby in the upcoming months before leaving the room. This allowed Becca to finally relax and appreciate all the news of the day. ”This is fantastic. Ah need tae share that ultrasoond wi’ Raine and Maya. Well, Ghost Maya,” she clarified. Less than convenient that she had a friend and a girlfriend with the same name. ”And my ma. But… well, Ah’m jist glad Ah saw thes wi’ ye first. It feels like a big step.” And things most certainly felt real now, to be sure.
Honestly, Gawain had been so focused on the day to day changes in their lives - Becca being off duty from the team, the constant roulette of powers, the thought of becoming a parent - that his mind had not really reached the point of considering the birth thing yet.
>>”Ah think th’ doctor is tiptoein’ aroond a C-Section.”
>>“Not tiptoeing by any means, but yes, if the day comes and your baby has a physical mutation that could cause complications for removal, we may need to consider a Cesarian. I just wanted to be sure you were prepared for that.”
... well, even FedEx was sounding better than that.
Becca was taking things in stride, as usual. Gawain filed the worries away for later, and made mental notes of the doctor's suggestions, and thanked him before they walked out of the room.
>>”This is fantastic. Ah need tae share that ultrasoond wi’ Raine and Maya. Well, Ghost Maya. And my ma. But… well, Ah’m jist glad Ah saw thes wi’ ye first. It feels like a big step.”
"Yeah." Gawain wrapped an arm around Becca, pressing a kiss to her forehead. "Have I mentioned you're awesome? You're awesome. Also, that reminds me I still need to get a message to my mom about the baby..."

Gawain likely was not thinking as far as the baby’s delivery when they had plenty on their plates. As the one who would be having a baby removed from her in one way or another, it was very much a thing on Becca’s mind. They might be able to induce on a day with an agreeable power, but pregnancy was unpredictable and she was ready for whatever option as long as it meant bringing her child safely into the world.
It was easier to take the future head on when she had someone like Gawain so supportive. She smiled ear-to-ear when he kissed her forehead. ”Ye’re pretty great yerself, hun. An’ yeah, ye need tae tell her she’s got tae meet her grandkid,” she agreed. ”My father and my ma are makin’ plans tae visit arood th’ due date.” Becca had to convince her mother she did not need to come down in the months ahead; she wanted to take care of her little girl, but Gawain and the Mansion would make sure a very pregnant Becca was in good hands.
”My pa is lookin’ forward tae meetin’ ye, which makes me jist a wee bit worried fer ye,” she joked, mostly. ”Ah gie tae meet yer assassin mom, bit ye’re th’ ain who’ll gie a talkin’ tae frae a grumpy Englishman.” Becca’s family was much more traditional than Gawain’s, but Gawain’s mother kept her child safe from her own assassin’s guild. Sure, she was part of an assassin’s guild, but if Gawain trusted her, Becca was excited to meet her.
Meeting the parents would happen eventually, because how could it not when they were going to become parents themselves? ”Ah’m sure he’ll gae easy on ye. Jist dinnae let him bully ye intae doin’ or sayin’ anything.” She fully expected Garrison would make pointed comments about the lack of a ring on Becca’s finger and the feet Gawain was dragging, but he would deal with them taking things at their own pace. ”Anythin’ Ah shoods know abit meetin’ yer ma, besides her choice in career?”
Dating Becca was an adventure: Mirror found new reasons to love her almost every day. Right now, Gawain was just happy to be walking out of their first ultrasound appointment together. It had been intense, and suddenly the promise of a baby was feeling very real.
>>”Ye’re pretty great yerself, hun. An’ yeah, ye need tae tell her she’s got tae meet her grandkid. My father and my ma are makin’ plans tae visit arood th’ due date.”
"Are they?" Gawain arched an eyebrow. He had not been thinking that far ahead.
>>”My pa is lookin’ forward tae meetin’ ye, which makes me jist a wee bit worried fer ye. Ah gie tae meet yer assassin mom, bit ye’re th’ ain who’ll gie a talkin’ tae frae a grumpy Englishman.”
Gawain made a face. Being the father/mother of the guy's grandchild was a high bar to clear even with the best expectations. Gawain's mother might have been an international assassin, but she was a pretty laid back parent, all things considered.
"Yeah..."
>>”Ah’m sure he’ll gae easy on ye. Jist dinnae let him bully ye intae doin’ or sayin’ anything.”
"Like... what?"
>>”Anythin’ Ah shoods know abit meetin’ yer ma, besides her choice in career?”
"She's pretty chill, for a parent..." Gawain shrugged "... plus she has a lot of experience with being pregnant with a shifting baby? Maybe we should have her visit sooner... Probably not the same time as your parents."

Becca was not a mama’s girl, but she was close with her parents. It made things challenging living an ocean away, but she kept touch and talked through what was going on in her life with her mom often. Makenzie Grey would not let heaven nor earth keep her from coming to visit and see her grandchild for the first time. ”Ma’s proactive an’ she’s been lookin’ forward tae meetin’ ye anyway. When Ah told her Ah was pregnant, she started lookin’ at flight prices.”
Explaining what her father might bully Gawain about was touchy, because she was not trying to get it in his head that she was waiting on anything. ”Oh, naithin’ in particular. Ah jist expect him tae gie ye a hard time.”
Cleared by the doctor, they could make their way to the same mirror they arrived through. ”Ye hae a point; talkin’ tae yer mom might be helpful. Ah’ll leave th’ timin’ up tae ye, though the’ll aw be at a room together at some point.” At a wedding, for instance, hypothetically, possibly. ”Ah’m jist glad we’ll hae some support from our families. Ah know we’ve talked abit it, but… Ah’ve aways wanted tae start a family ain day. Ah’m jist lucky Ah gie tae dae it wi’ ye, Gawain.” She took his hand as they walked down the hospital hallway, squeezing it.
It was only three years earlier Rebecca convinced herself she would never have this. She wished now she could let that jaded redhead know how wrong she was and how blessed she would really be.
