The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Maya knew what to say because of course she did. That was like a hallmark of the gendershifter when Becca needed her. It was nice to remember that Maya had faith in her after all the times they had each other’s backs, particularly in recent years. Maya believed in her, she just did not trust Agnes, which was valid after everything they went through with the insect queen.
”Thanks,” Smiling, she felt a reassuring hand near her knee. ”Ah’ll admit though… it wasnae easy. Mighta been easier if Ah wasnae daft an’ told ye tae gae,” she admitted. Becca let her emotions and her vulnerability get the best of her. In the first few days, she was upset with Maya for stupid things like sleeping with Agnes or not fighting to stay. As time went on, she accepted that she was being unfair: Maya had no clue who Agnes was at the time, and she did not abandon Becca, she listened to her.
Maybe it was time to address the other elephant in the room. ”Ah shoods apologize. Ah was unfair tae ye ‘at night. Ah was feelin’ worthless an’ unlooved, an’ Ah put ye in an awkward spot fer validation.” After dropping one bomb on Gawain, it was not the right time to drop another bomb on him just because she wanted him to feed her need for approval and affection.
”Ah had been fallin’ fer ye fer abit a month, bit bringin’ it up then was jist wrong. Sorry fer throwin’ aw of ‘at on ye, Maya. Consider mah stupid request fer space revoked.” Not that the request held much weight after Rebecca decided to use Maya’s lap to get comfy.
Becca was strong. Not strong because her alternate universe self was a leader, and not strong because she had awesome metal powers. She was a different kind of strong, the kind that made you an X-man (or vigilante, however you wanted to call it). Maya had no doubt that she would bounce back, even if it was a slow bounce. More of a crawl, really. The point was the end result.
>>”Thanks. Ah’ll admit though… it wasnae easy. Mighta been easier if Ah wasnae daft an’ told ye tae gae,”
Maya smiled a little. Impact had been right, after all.
>>”Ah shoods apologize. Ah was unfair tae ye ‘at night. Ah was feelin’ worthless an’ unlooved, an’ Ah put ye in an awkward spot fer validation.”
Maya shook her head at that. The last thing they needed was to go backwards and start apologizing for apologies.
>>”Ah had been fallin’ fer ye fer abit a month, bit bringin’ it up then was jist wrong. Sorry fer throwin’ aw of ‘at on ye, Maya. Consider mah stupid request fer space revoked.”
Maya nodded slowly. They were already kind of past the space thing, for now, although if she had been told to go, she would have understood.
"Don't worry about it. You were in a bad place." she noted quietly. Whatever Becca said or did back then, it was not exactly something that could be held against her. The confession did not exactly come at the right time, but that was nothing to hold a grudge about. Maya patted Becca's leg for emphasis, and then she stared down at her hands for a moment, mulling things over.
"How did you know?" the question just came out. Might as well ask while they were on topic "I mean... don't get me wrong, it's just... how could you tell?"

Becca felt good about clearing the air with Maya because it was long overdue. Whatever mess they just endured and whatever feelings she had, Maya was an important part of her life. If she wanted things to feel right again, she had to make things right, and apologizing was a start.
With that weight lifted off Becca’s chest, she felt enough relief to happily take a forkful of rice, chicken, and sauce, and shove it gleefully into her mouth.
>> "How did you know?"
”Mnph?” The question was unexpected and Becca immediately wanted to question exactly what Maya meant before she was reminded of the food in the way. Blushing at the lack of manners on display, she covered her mouth with her hand and chewed aggressively as Maya elaborated.
>>"I mean... don't get me wrong, it's just... how could you tell?"
Becca finished chewing and swallowed, but she was still piecing Maya’s vague question together. ”Hoo did Ah… oh…” Suddenly, the pieces fit together and Becca realized what she was being asked. It was amazing how fast she could go from feeling relieved and confident to unsure and awkward.
”Weel, Ah didnae know right away. It was little things, Ah guess. Ah felt different oan days when Ah knew ye’d be coming o’er at night. Like lighter. Happier than hangin’ it with other friends, an’ Ah started realizin’ th’ sex was not the reason. It was secondary, dinnae gie me wrong; yer great at ‘at,” she teased, feeling less awkward for doing so. ”Ah started seein’ ye different. When ye slept o’er, it was jist nice tae be there in bed wi’ ye. Everything abit us jist felt sae… natural, ye know?” Nothing with Maya felt like it took effort. They just fit.
Becca shrugged. ”Ah’ve ne’er dain thes afair, really. Ah dunnae know if thes is jist whit friends wi' benefits feels loch, but Ah've fallen fur someain afair. Ah guess it felt loch whit we have. Had.” She corrected herself at the end, as bittersweet as it was to acknowledge what they had as part of the past. Still, Maya asked and she received the truth; being with Maya felt right, and when she looked at Maya and wanted her to be around as much as possible, it was a sign that she was really falling for her. Now it was all out in the open, at least.
Maya was vaguely aware that she should not have asked the question. Not now, anyway. Becca was better, but far from having processed everything. But she brought up the subject, and Maya was not sure if she would get a chance later to talk about it like this, once it was all resolved and closed. And in all honesty, she wanted to know. She had been thinking a lot after the... breakup?... and after the talk with Impact. Becca might have been in a bad place, emotionally, but that did not mean Maya did not have things to think over.
>>”Weel, Ah didnae know right away. It was little things, Ah guess. Ah felt different oan days when Ah knew ye’d be coming o’er at night. Like lighter. When ye slept o’er, it was jist nice tae be there in bed wi’ ye. Everything abit us jist felt sae… natural, ye know?”
Maya smiled a little at the compliment, but she mostly listened to Becca's explanation. She could tell the redhead felt awkward, but she did not try to go around the subject either. Maybe talking through it would help her make sense of it too? The last part, though. Natural. Maya nodded quietly at that. That was the part that had thrown her to begin with. Becca was... Becca. It was not the same as with anyone else. But did that make her more or less?...
>>”Ah’ve ne’er dain thes afair, really. Ah dunnae know if thes is jist whit friends wi' benefits feels loch, but Ah've fa'en fur someain afair. Ah guess it felt loch whit we have. Had.”
Could it really be that simple?
"Thanks..." Maya said, because she was not sure what else to say "... for telling me, I mean. I have been... thinking it over, and... you're right, it's hard to tell what's what. I mean... I guess I had girlfriends before, but that was always... different? It's not like there is a manual for all of this..."

Becca was unsure of how Maya might react to such a clear admission of her feelings. Becca was ready to be Maya’s friend, even if that meant finding a way to compartmentalize the romantic feelings she stumbled her way. The last thing she wanted to do was make Maya uncomfortable or scare her away.
The reaction was not bad. In fact, Becca’s head tilted slightly when Maya mentioned she had been thinking things over. Maybe it was Becca’s self-confidence still needing to bounce back, but she had not expected Maya would have thought about them in their time apart. They had both had girlfriends before, but what they had was a first for both of them, making it hard to understand what path they were on. Was it possible that something new could have evolved over time without them noticing it?
”Wooldnae it’ve been a shame if there was a manual tae jist make thes easy?” She chuckled, but yes, maybe she wished it was that easy. ”Bein’ wi’ ye isnae loch bein’ wi’ my past girlfriends. Still… it was nice. Ah dornt really want tae date aroond anymair. Ah think it’s jist nae fer me.” What Becca had with Agnes at the end was not dating, and beyond that dependent nightmare, Becca just had no desire to be with anyone new. She wanted to be with Maya, though. ”Ye were th’ only girl an’ guy Ah really wanted tae curl up wi’ on th’ couch watchin’ tv withit pants.” Those cozy nights in were still a highlight for Becca.
Maybe it was good to talk about these things. Healthy, anyway. It wasn't like there were right or wrong answers, or things some people knew and others didn't. In the end, everyone had to figure out their own issues, in the absence of an actual manual.
>>”Wooldnae it’ve been a shame if there was a manual tae jist make thes easy?”
"Well, I did find these helpful videos online..." Maya noted with a smirk. Just because the FWB did not last, didn't mean Becky was wrong about the rest...
They both seemed to agree that they were in new territory. Both as friends with benefits, and in general.
>>"Bein’ wi’ ye isnae loch bein’ wi’ my past girlfriends. Still… it was nice. Ah dornt really want tae date aroond anymair. Ah think it’s jist nae fer me. Ye were th’ only girl an’ guy Ah really wanted tae curl up wi’ on th’ couch watchin’ tv withit pants.”
Maya arched an eyebrow at the confession and chuckled a little, but at the same time she also felt a pang, somewhere deep down. Was it really that easy?
"I mean, I can take my pants off" she offered with a grin. They had spent a lot of time comfortably cuddling, or sitting around and throwing popcorn at bad movie scenes. It was a shame something that fun had to be ruined with pants. Maya's grin softened into a smile, then she looked down at hr hands again. "Yeah, I'm gonna miss that."

Oh, that video. Becca’s life would probably be easier if she did not document so much of it online, or if she kept her true identity hidden, but the internet was good at finding those things anyway. The video really was an innocuous fan request that just happened to line up with Becca’s foray into her first friend with benefits. To their credit, Becca and Maya were finally communicating openly, which was somewhere on her list of rules. It was late to the game, but it was nice to just be talking and dealing with issues.
Becca scooted her bottom over on the couch to get slightly closer to where Maya was sitting. Now that things were starting to feel more normal, she realized how far she was sitting from her friend (if you ignored the legs draped over Maya’s lap.) Maya’s joking offer to take off her pants made Becca chuckle, and may have caused a small heart flutter. ”Loch Ah’d e’er complain abit ‘at,” she teased. ”Though if ye took yers aff, Ah’d hae tae follow suit. What kind ay hostess woods Ah be otherwise?” Nothing precarious about that line of thinking.
On second thought, maybe it was safer not to bring up those sweet little moments they were not going to have anymore. Becca was feeling better in the moment, but eventually Maya would leave and she would be left with her thoughts. She had to be considerate of future Becca. She decided to change the topic by asking about something she was curious of since Maya arrived. ”Sae, hae ye picked up a habit ay pickin’ fights since Ah’ve last seen ye? Ur is thes ain ay those ‘th’ first rule ay brawl party is ye dornt talk abit brawl party’ things?” Becca used her fork to gesture to Maya’s red cheek and knuckles.
Watching movies and eating junk food was always better with your pants off, and especially better when you were sharing the no-pants-ness with someone who did not make you feel awkward about it. Or feel pressured to be constantly sexy.
>>”Loch Ah’d e’er complain abit ‘at. Though if ye took yers aff, Ah’d hae tae follow suit. What kind ay hostess woods Ah be otherwise?”
Not that Becca was not constantly sexy. The physical attraction had never been the problem; the two of them worked great together, that had been established way back in Budapest. But somehow between girlfriends, breakups, broken hearts and whatnot, the whole emotions thing somehow got turned around... Maya chuckled at Becca's joke, but she knew they were a long way from when they used to... do all that.
>>”Sae, hae ye picked up a habit ay pickin’ fights since Ah’ve last seen ye? Ur is thes ain ay those ‘th’ first rule ay brawl party is ye dornt talk abit brawl party’ things?”
"Huh?" it took Maya a moment to realize what Becca was asking. She glanced up, and then followed her gaze to her hands. Her knuckles were bruised from the troll-punching, and she really had no good explanation to that. Or to the bruise on her cheek. She realized now, after Becca spoke about trolls in such a matter-of-fact fashion, that she might have overreacted to the comments. A little. "I'm not picking fights... it's just... it doesn't matter" she muttered, setting down her bow to stuff her hands in her pockets. Like an adult.

>> "Huh? I'm not picking fights... it's just... it doesn't matter"
There was so much to like about Maya. She was brave and sweet and funny. At her core, Maya was a good person. She was also, fortunately for Rebecca, a godawful liar. She hated to take advantage of that weakness, but it was hard to ignore that Maya was not telling her the full truth about her bumps and bruises.
Setting her plate on the table for a moment, Rebecca scooted closer so she could get face to face with Maya. ”Okay, ‘at’s ain answer, Maya. Bit it’s nae th’ right answer.” She took one of Maya’s hands in her own, brushing her thumb over Maya’s knuckles. ”If someain’s givin’ ye trouble, ye know Ah’d want tae know. Talk tae me, Maya; who hae ye been fightin’ wi?” If she was just scuffing herself up in the danger room, there’d be no reason to dodge the question, making the true answer far more curious.
Maya was aware that she could not lie for s**t, especially not around Becca. She never really learned how, and she did not like doing it, but when the redhead noticed the bruises, her first reaction on instinct was denial. It was embarrassing to admit that she wad been defending, what, Becca's honor, from Internet trolls? There were so many problems with that concept. Becca, being Becca, did not give up.
>>”Okay, ‘at’s ain answer, Maya. Bit it’s nae th’ right answer.”
Maya glanced down again at Becca's hands holding hers. It was obvious that she had been punching things. Or people.
>>”If someain’s givin’ ye trouble, ye know Ah’d want tae know. Talk tae me, Maya; who hae ye been fightin’ wi?”
"I'm not being bullied. It's nothing" Maya muttered, wrinkling her nose. Last thing she needed was for Becca to think she needed to protect her from someone "It's dumb. I just..." she sighed "... I saw the comments on the video and I... um, overreacted. For a moment."

Maya made it a habit of being the one to protect and defend others, but people like that often struggled to let people protect them. If Maya was getting into fights or if someone was giving her a hard time, friend, girlfriend, or something in between, Becca was going to do something about it.
There was no telling who or why Maya was fighting, so Becca wanted to press for more information. What Maya finally gave her caught her by surprise.
Whoever was on the other side of Maya’s fists, it was not because they did something to wrong her. Maya saw the comments on Becca’s videos, calling her everything from naïve to a friendzoner to a slut, and she… overreacted.
Blinking a few times, Becca started to realize what Maya was doing in the days since the video dropped. ”Nae way. Are ye really tellin’ me… Maya, hae ye been getting’ intae fights fer me? Wi’ my trolls?” Every creator on ViewTube imagined getting an internet troll and giving them a good right cross, but not everyone could pop out of a screen on a whim.
Maya glanced up sheepishly, and saw realization dawn on Becca's face. It was not hard to put two and two (or rather, comments and bruises) together from that point on, but the mirrorwalker was not sure what reactions she could expect from the redhead. She had already stated that she did not care much for the trolls, and was not nearly as upset about the comments as Maya had been. Then again, Maya was not (a willing) internet celebrity.
>>”Nae way. Are ye really tellin’ me… Maya, hae ye been getting’ intae fights fer me? Wi’ my trolls?”
Maya looked down again.
"Just the worst ones" she muttered with a shrug that was not at all that convincing "And it wasn't fights as much as just... some punching." she glanced up and sighed "Some of the comments were just... so vile! And I didn't want you to have to deal with that sh** on top of... all the other stuff."

Rebecca listened as Maya defended her decision to beat up the worst of Pixelbecky’s nasty trolls and hatemongers. She had been so disgusted with the way people were treating the redheaded vlogger and she did not want Becca to deal with those kinds of people.
The decisions Maya made were made out of care and consideration for Becca, and because she recognized that, Becca did her absolute best to hold a straight face while Maya spoke.
That lasted until Maya finally finished and Becca nodded a few times until she cracked into a smile, then a grin, and then she was just lost to a giggle fit. Maybe she should be upset, you don’t respond to words with violence, etc, but Becca could just picture her favorite gendershifter seeing the angry comments, not being able to come talk to her, and deciding to bring vigilante justice to the internet.
Without thinking about the action, she placed her hand on Maya’s cheek, trying to speak through the laughter. ”Yer daft, Maya Morris. A total bampot. And… sae incredibly sweet.” She leaned in and her laughter was finally silenced as her lips met Maya’s for a soft, brief kiss.
Becca pulled away, knowing her cheeks were pink and needing a moment for her action to hit her. ”Ah… um, Ah shoods say sorry.” She did not want to say sorry, but she should, right?
For a moment, Maya was not sure what to expect next. It would have been in Becca's right to call her out on going full vigilante on her viewers, even if they were the worst ones, and interfering with her life and her online presence without her permission, which really was what the whole "needing space" thing was all about... Becca laughed.
It was a smile at first, and the smile was good to see. And then she giggled, and that was a bit much. Maya sighed, fully accepting the laughter as her punishment for overreacting. She was relieved Becca was not seriously angry.
>> ”Yer daft, Maya Morris. A total bampot. And… sae incredibly sweet.”
"Okay let's not get..."
Becca kissed her. It was soft and quick, but it managed to completely freeze whatever Maya was about to say. Kissing between them was not exactly new, and yet... this one was different. Very different. Maya felt her heart skip.
>>”Ah… um, Ah shoods say sorry.”
For a long moment, there was a pause. Apologies were offered, and decisions were made. Things clicked, in a way, and other things were thrown out. In the end, simple was the solution to everything.
Maya leaned forward, one hand sliding into Becca's hair, and she kissed her back.

It was a moment’s impulse. If she had been thinking, Becca would have worried she was crossing a line or putting Maya in an awkward position. There could have been so many consequences to consider if Becca took a moment to think about what she was doing. Thankfully, she just… didn’t. Maya was one of the sweetest people she knew, and Becca had to do what came natural. Kissing Maya? Well, that was the most natural thing in the world.
She pulled away and awaited what Maya might say. Becca came close to apologizing, but she could not bring herself to do it. She did not regret kissing Maya.
Maya’s fingers wove into Becca’s hair and she felt her heart skip as Maya moved in and kissed her.
It was the kind of kiss she had been missing. They could take their time, just enjoying one another. By the end of what turned out to be a string of kisses, Becca ended up on Maya’s lap, facing her. Her hands were at Maya’s sides and their foreheads pressed softly together. Becca smiled broadly. ”Ah really loch ye, Maya.” She was sure she said that with her kiss, but she wanted to speak it anyway; she wanted to affirm it.
