The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Gawain was (sadly) back in his pants, lounging in the nearby office chair. Shirtless was still a good look for the man, and a look Rebecca would not mind seeing again. With pressing needs out of the way, she finally had time to decompress and think. It had been at least an hour since she thought; constructive thoughts, at least.
It was hot and fun and simple. Gawain ticked all the boxes Rebecca wanted ticked, and she realized it might not be such a bad thing to have someone around who knew how to reliably tick her boxes. She was not ready or interested in a commitment, but there were other possibilities on the table…
So to speak.
Sitting up so she could face Gawain, Rebecca cast a cursory glance on the room before returning to the man’s hazel eyes. ”Aye, we were nae exactly concerned wi’ keepin’ tidy,” she agreed. With paperwork strewn on the ground, it looked like the office was hit by a sex tornado. ”Let me get a… well, anything oan, and Ah’ll help.” If she was going to be cleaning, it might be less conspicuous to do so in a shirt.
Grabbing her tank top from the ground, Rebecca pulled it over her head and started questing for where her panties ended up. ”Ye know… ‘at was nice. Loch… ‘Ah wouldnae mind it happening again’ nice,” she implied, curious to see if Gawain was interested in taking the bait.
Becca sat up. It was not a bad view, Gawain had to admit. There was something daring about how comfortable she looked in a thoroughly uncomfortable setting, and for a brief moment the mirrorwalker wondered if they had locked the door at all.
>>”Aye, we were nae exactly concerned wi’ keepin’ tidy... Let me get a… well, anything oan, and Ah’ll help.”
Gawain chuckled as Becca hunted for her various articles of clothing. On his part, he found a bottle of water in the office cooler and drank about half of it. Hydration was important. By the time he looked up again, Becca was at least half dressed.
>>”Ye know… ‘at was nice. Loch… ‘Ah wouldnae mind it happening again’ nice,”
Gawain arched an eyebrow. He had not been thinking beyond the present time... and they had already agreed this was not anything serious or permanent. Could something be permanently un-serious?...
"You mean, like... happening again, regularly?... Like, a... uh, friends with benefits thing?" Gawain was not even sure if that was a real thing, or something the Internet had made up. But dating was clearly off the table... so to speak.

Rebecca could feel Gawain looking at her and she reveled in the feeling. It was nice to be appreciated, and the look he gave her certainly held appreciation, along with a few other emotions.
She pulled on her underthings, (which somehow ended up on top of a nearby bookshelf,) and breathed a sigh of relief. Gawain understood what she was asking. There had been the lingering worry that Gawain would still think, despite her earlier comments, that Rebecca was angling for some kind of relationship. It was no secret that Gawain was the kind of guy who had girlfriends, so she was asking if he was interested in jumping outside of his comfort zone. They were young, single, and had plenty of sexual chemistry to keep things lively. Why not live while the living was good?
”Ah mean exactly a friends wi’ benefits thing,” she confirmed, collecting papers and making an effort to shuffle them back into a neat pile. ”Ah’m nae lookin’ fur anything. Heck, Ah’m startin’ tae think Ah’m nae cut it fur relationships. But yer fun. Thes,” she started, waving her hand at the desk, ”was fun. Ah’d be fine wi’ mair of thes if yer interested?”
She did not want it to sound cheap or sleazy because, in her eyes, it was not. Rebecca liked Gawain and she even cared about him as a friend, so she cared enough not to lead him on. Was that not the point of Friends with Benefits? Having a friend who mattered and who you trusted enough to have a little fun with? If he was interested, she was willing to give it a shot, but she was not going to push the matter.
Gawain paused in picking up papers and office supplies as he considered the option. So far in his short career he had mostly been a serial monogamist; he always somehow ended up stumbling into long relationships with girlfriends that he felt very deeply for. Casual... whatever this was, was uncharted territory for him, mostly, and he had not expected someone, especially Becca, to bring up something like that. But now that it was on the table (they really had to stop with the table metaphors), he did not really see anything wrong with it.
>>”Ah’m nae lookin’ fur anything. Heck, Ah’m startin’ tae think Ah’m nae cut it fur relationships. But yer fun. Thes, was fun. Ah’d be fine wi’ mair of thes if yer interested?”
"Well... we definitely got the friends part down." Gawain smiled back at her, before he resumed the picking up "And right now I'm kinda in the same place you are... not really looking for anything more serious than that. But damn, if this is gonna be a thing, we gotta find better places for it..."

It was reassuring to know they were on the same page. Rebecca was putting herself out there with a very honest request and she would have felt a little foolish to realize she read the mood of the evening wrong. It could have been possible Gawain would want to keep them a one-time thing and he would be totally within his rights to make that choice.
Maybe it was silly, but Rebecca was glad to see she was not the only one willing to entertain the idea of more casual rendezvous. Gawain was someone she trusted, and it was comforting to know she had someone like that to call over after a long day to cut loose from the other stresses in her life.
There was only one condition to Gawain’s participation, and it was one that called out Rebecca’s apparent exhibitionist tendancies. Pouting, she approached Gawain from behind and wrapped her arms around his waist. ”Weel, if yoo'd stop bein' sae sexy in public, Ah wooldnae hae tae poonce ye in public.” Releasing him, she added some sass. ”Really, thes is yer fault. Shame oan ye.”
They seemed to be on the same page, and it was a friendly, comfortable place to be. The office looked like it had been hit by a tornado, but if they kept to their new agreement, no further property damage would be done. Gawain felt... light. Like there was no weight on his shoulders, just something that was as easy as breathing. It was a strange feeling, but he stopped thinking about it when Becca hugged him from behind.
>>”Weel, if yoo'd stop bein' sae sexy in public, Ah wooldnae hae tae poonce ye in public. Really, thes is yer fault. Shame oan ye.”
"Well, you only have to wait..." Gawain glanced at the clock "... about twenty-three hours, and I'll be Maya again. Oh wait." he snapped his fingers "I'm still darn sexy as Maya, and you're still bi. Damn. Sorry."

Gawain’s body was still warm to the touch, which Rebecca found comforting. It was not going to be what she was used to with Agnes. There was always something serious with them, even when they were not together. Rebecca expected so much of her first relationship, even when it became her second and fourth relationships, so it was always impossible to see her and Agnes in the present day without wondering what the future had in store.
Living in the present was a new concept for Rebecca, but that was where she was. She did not know what to expect with Gawain and she liked that. No pressure, no big plans: just a girl and a boy who was sometimes a girl.
Taking the blame Becca assigned him in stride, Gawain jokingly reminded her that she would be dealing with Maya soon. While Becca knew for a fact she could be happy with a guy or a girl without “missing” the other (and would scold any biphobe for implying otherwise,) it was an undeniably convenient fact that Gawain and Maya provided a unique taste of the best of both worlds. ”Hmm, true. Maya’s very sexy and Ah’m very bi,” she mused aloud at her “dilemma,” kissing the back of Gawain’s neck as she thought. ”Ah’ll jist hae tae lay doon th’ rules fur her, too. Very carefully.”
