Derek watched as Allegra left him alone with the same guy that he was dared to give his number to. Great. He slowly turned his attention to Doug and flashed a smile.

"Oh, yeah. For ten seconds, I died. Don't plan on doing it again." He chuckled nervously and rubbed the side of his face.

"A personal question? Sure." Uh, oh. What was Doug about to ask? Hopefully something not too bad or worthy of him blushing.

Allegra stood back. Derek was so good with flirting. Maybe she could learn something.

"Well, you gave me your number," Doug said nervously. "I was just wondering if you were dating anyone or if you're single. And if you like girls or guys?"

Well, this was a turn of events. Derek blinked a few times before the words finally came up from his throat.

"Uh, well, um," he gulped, "n-no, I'm not datin' anyone...and yes. I'm gay." Derek admitted with a small smile. He sat up in his beach chair and studied his face. "What's your name again?" He asked nervously.

 "I'm Doug," he said. "I thought you might be but my gaydar has malfunctioned before. I'm not into guys myself, but I had a couple reasons for asking. I've got a friend who is looking for a guy and I think you're his type. Also....." He stared over nervously at the pool.

"That girl you're with. She's pretty hot," he said. "I didn't want to make the moves if you were a couple but seeing as you're not.... Well, do you think I've got a chance with her?"

Oh, so he wasn't gay? That made things a little awkward for Derek, though the guy didn't seem to worried about it. Hell, he even had a friend that might be interested in Derek. "Oh, okay. That's great!" Derek sat up in his seat and studied Doug. He seemed like a pretty nice guy. However, when he asked if he had a chance with Allegra, he could feel his blood run cold. "Um, well...you might? She is single and all, but I don't know if she's interested in...y'know what, I'll make sure to ask her what she thinks about you, then I'll get back to you."

Allegra couldn't hear what they were talking about but it looked to her like Derek might be picking up a new boyfriend. He certainly was a romantic.

"Hello, boys. Anyone want anything to drink?" she offered. She poured Derek a smoothie then one for Doug..

"Thanks," Doug said. He smiled at Allegra trying to get the courage to ask her out, but she was already focusing her full attention on Derek.

"How are you doing?" she asked him. "You just died so I want to make sure you're okay."

When Allegra arrived and asked if anyone wanted drinks, Derek was the first one to raise his hand. "Me! God, I love those smoothies." He stated with a wide smile.

"I'm doin' okay, actually," he smiled at Allegra before glancing over at Doug. "...So, turns out Doug isn't gay, but he knows a friend of his that is. That's cool, huh?"

"That's very cool," Allegra said. She really didn't see Doug as Derek's type anyway so hopefully his friend would be cuter.

"Derek is such a sweetheart," Allegra told Doug. "And obviously sizzling hot. Your friend would be so lucky to go out with him. Smoothie?"

Doug took the smoothie but Allegra was still concerned for her friend and didn't notice the blue mutant checking her out.

"Are you sure you're okay?" she asked holding her palm on Derek's forehead to make sure he didn't have a fever. She really didn't know what kind of symptoms she was looking for with someone who had just returned from the dead but she was worried about him. "No fever but I think you should see
DocProf later today just in case. You did just die. Did I tell you how
totally sorry I am for that."

"Um....Allegra," Doug said nervously but she was obviously more concerned about Derek.

"I promise, I'm okay. No worries." He chuckled with a smile on his face. Derek adjusted his seating since he could feel his rear start to go numb. "But if it makes you feel better, I'll go see DocProf." He took a sip of the smoothie and moaned at the flavor. God, he could never get tired of that.

Derek turned his attention to Doug, then back to Allegra. "Um...so, Doug, where are you from?"

"I would feel better," Allegra said. "I'll even go see the doctor with you." She was obviously worried as well as feeling more than a little guilty for killing him.

"I'm from Cincinnati," Doug said sipping his smoothie. "New York is much more impressive. So Allegra, where are you from."

"Beverly Hills," she answered. "So what's your gay friend like?" she asked.

Doug frowned. He was hoping Allegra would show more interest in him than in getting a date for Derek.

"I loved your dating profile," Allegra said to Derek. "Who took that picture of you with the rose? I love it."

Derek watched the interaction between Douglas and Allegra take place. He felt bad for the guy. All he wanted was for Allegra to pay attention to him.

"Thanks! Hopefully I'll catch some bait with it." He winked at Allegra before turning his attention to Douglas.

"So, Douglas, what can you do with your mutation?" He asked curiously, hoping to get his attention back on him.

"Oh I'm sure you'll catch lots of... bait," Allegra smiled.

Douglas seemed relieved when Derek asked him what he could do. Finally a chance to show off! "Well, I am all temperatures. Watch this."

His color changed from blue to ice white and a chill colder than the frozen smoothies breezed around the trio.

"What the hell!" Allegra shouted as she hugged herself to try to ward off the cold. "You do see me just wearing a bikini, right? What makes you think January is a good idea?"

"I'm sorry my lady. Perhaps you will like this better," Douglas suggested as he shifted from white to blue to fiery red. "Ta-daa! Instant heat wave," he announced. He extended his arms like a rising sun but his scorching hand almost brushed Allegra's face. Even though her face was saved from disaster, being near it gave her cheek the equivalent of a bad sunburn.

"Ow!" she shrieked. "What are you doing? You almost torched me. Ow again!" She felt the right side of her face which was now slowly simmering like a sunburn. "No amount of lotion is going to help this. I'm going to have flake face for days!"

"I'm sorry," Douglas said as he shifted back to blue. "I didn't mean to..."

"This isn't show and tell!" Allegra shouted at him. "You have dangerous powers that could seriously hurt someone! You can't just flaunt them like that. What the hell were you thinking! Please just go away. Now!"

Later Allegra would stop to think about her reaction and feel bad for snapping at him so fiercely. It all had to do with how guilty she felt about 'killing' Derek by doing pretty much the same thing with her own powers. But right now, she was just full-on furious.

Douglas just stared at the ground. He had really screwed up any chance with her now.
