The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

Rhett watched her as she said she had to go. He was leaning over the railing now. He took another puff of his cigarette and flicked it away before taking another bite o his burrito. Rhett acted as if it didn't bother him either way if she left. He just looked ahead at the building the music was pouring out of. He hadn't planned on meeting Martha today. This was just a chance meeting. Still, she was here now and he thought about a great many things. He wasn't contemplating changing who he was. No, Rhett liked who he was. He loved being a carefree amorous asshole who only cared mostly about himself. He lived a life in the palm of his own hand and didn't want that to change any time soon.
Rhett took another bite of his burrito as she seemed to weigh her choices on her mind. He tossed half of it in the trash with a big mouthful still in his mouth. Rhett chewed it up as he wiped his hands on his jeans and turned around. He cast a glance at Martha, but she was apparently lost in her thoughts. On the sidewalk where they were standing someone walked past them. Rhett dipped his light fingers into the man's back pocket as he passed and came out with his wallet. The man kept walking and Rhett smiled. He wouldn't know his wallet was missing until later that day.
Rhett pulled out the licesnse and read the name "Phill Brooks. Well, Thanks Phil!" Rhett said tossing the ID in the trash can. Rhett pulled $200 in bills out of the wallet before chucking it into the trash with the other unwanted, discarded things. Rhett stuffed the money into the pocket of his jeans and looked at Martha. "You see that? Your luck can change just just like that!" Rhett snapped his fingers to emphasize his point. "This world doesn't do you any favors you don't do yourself. My luck changed when i met you... You can go sweetheart, I ain't gonna stop you, but just know that you'll be seeing me again." Rhett said. He wasn't the type to force his company on someone who wasn't feeling it. He was in her head though. If she left now.... She would be back. He was sure that she would. He had a few loose ends to tie up if he was going to pull this job without her.
"Is that so? Why? You share a kiss or two with me and tell me I'll see you again." She snorted, but it was easy to see she was putting up a front now. He'd hit her vulnerability right in the jewels. "Thanks for the burrito, though. I am hungry." So she grabbed the burrito he didn't eat, helping herself, as if that would really make a point with him. Then she saluted with the burrito, then walked off, but only around the corner. She pressed against the wall of the building she had rounded, sat down, and tucked into the food out of sight from him. It was bad enough that he saw the feels he evoked, but she would be damned if she ate like a f***ing pig in front of him.
She ate it messily, too, shoving it into her face hungrily and it was gone in short order. She licked her fingers clean, then pulled her baggy shirt off because it got all gross from dropped food. She had a tank top underneath that, so she wasn't flashing anyone or anything. She peered around the corner to see if he still stood there, then got up and walked back to the concert hall if he wasn't, looking kind of wistfully at it. She would have to walk back to her car, which she had messed up a bit more in an accident but at least it still ran, right? But that would mean passing him by again, proving his point that she would see him again.
Rhett was disappointed. Not only did she keep him at arms length but she wasn't going to help him with the job. That was enough to take the wind out of his sails. He was prideful and stubborn. She repeated hinted that she was one foot out the door so he called her bluff. Rhett didn't actually thing that she would cut and run like that. His ego was a bit shaken as he stood in front of the concert hall. Rhett knew two things in life. People were generally predictable most of the time, and money always talks. She proved him wrong on both fronts. She didn't want his money and he couldn't figure her out for the life on him.
Rhett watched her round the corner until he was sure she was gone. "Yeah.... We'll meet again doll. I'll make sure of that." He said to himself. Rhett stuffed his hands in the pockets of his jacket and headed home. He wasn't really looking forward to his little chat with Judy, but he supposed he could put that off. He could pick up his car and pull that job now. It wasn't to late. In fact, he thought. That's what I'll do. Rhett pulled out his phone and dialed his associate. "Yeah it's me. Nah she didn't want anything to do with it. I can still work it though, get that other guy... Yeah the one who can shoot energy blasts. Things may be more violent then I wanted, but what can I do? Yeah see you soon." He said and hung up the phone. Rhett was in the car business. He stole cars and sold them. He sold them to chop shops to strip and sell for parts. He sold them overseas, he had a guy in customs that turned a blind eye. He would steal a car and have someone follow him. If the cops gave him trouble he would have them create a distraction and chase them instead. Then he would slip away. It always helped to have a follow car. Rhett never worked without one. Mutants were great because the distractions they caused could seem like a natural occurance. The cops wouldn't have to follow anyone.
Rhett started walking back. As he walked he found the girl was on his mind a lot more than he cared to admit. She got under his skin just a bit. She was damn confusing, but that's one of the things that drew him to her. She was wild and unpredictable like him. Rhett didn't show his feelings often and when he did, and they were turned down it kinda sucked. For one thing his ego was so big that he just couldn't accept it. On the other hand it made him want to shut down and close up shop. Forget about connections and people and just do what he did best. Make money and chaos, neither in short supply.
She went back to her car, but instead of going back to the mansion like she had planned, she grabbed clean clothes and went to the nearest restroom to change into them... When she emerged, she looked completely different... She was wearing a dress with a low back, in red and thigh length skirt, dark hair brushed out so it fell down her back, and sandals on her feet. She got back in the car after getting herself gussied up, including make up, and drove the few blocks to the place she had seen Rhett, the one before the auditorium. Martha got out of the car, then sat on the hood to wait for him to notice her if he was outside, or to come outside and see her.
Assuming he came out or was outside and noticed her, she'd give him a look. Martha's expression was serious. She did not beckon him over but she did say, "I couldn't be your Gal Friday lookin' like a bum." She couldn't believe she was going to do this, but it wasn't about the stealing and stuff, it was about Rhett. She wanted to be with him, simple as that.
Her eyes continued to watch to see what he would do, he would be able to see the vulnerability in her eyes. She was... scared? Yeah. This whole thing was scary, the city, the people, the tall ass buildings that loomed over. Everything was different and she had to let go of this Gypsy life of hers. The only way she could do that was if she rebelled against her upbringing. At least, it made sense in her mind. She waited for his response, kind of hoping he would come grab her from the hood of her car, crush his mouth on hers and then show her his world...
Rhett came back outside from his warehouse holding his keys. Well, he was holding them til his eyes fell on Martha. He dropped them and his mouth just kind of hung open for a minute. He couldn't believe that she was back and.....What was she wearing? Why was she wearing it? And why wasn't already on the floor of his warehouse long forgotten about. He was speechless for once in his life. No smart ass remarks came floating up to the surface of his fevered brain. Instead he started to stammer like an idiot. "I uhh... I was um.....I had to run an errand, did you want to join me?" He wasn't thinking about work anymore. He was thinking about play. Rhett thought about feeling soft fabric beneath his finger tips. He thought about running his hands along subtle curves and dangerous places. Rhett was thinking about what her skin tasted like in a passionate moment. Salty with a taste of sweat and maybe a little taste of regret? Rhett thought about a lot of things, but he couldn't put them into words.
Rhett stood there staring a moment longer as his subconscious mind reminded him that he had dropped his keys. A little doll had followed him out of the warehouse. Most of Rhett's other toys were 'sleeping.' He always rode with at least two though. Leonard was already waiting in the passenger seat. Even Leonard seemed to be staring at Martha as most of his thoughts were about her at the moment. The doll that followed him out of the warehouse was named Lacy. Rhett named each and every one of his toys. Lacy tugged at his pants leg and he looked down after he somehow managed to pull his eye from the bombshell. He looked down and saw her holding his keys up to him. "Yeah... I need those." He said. His voice trailed off he sounded distant like he was in a dream.
She looked like a dream, and all stretched out over the hood of a car. The fact that it was a pinto didn't ruin the fantasy though. He just looked at the rest of her and now the crappy car. Rhett allowed a smile to push over his face as he stood there. He couldn't help but want to say screw the job. He couldn't do that though. He made big promise. The car he was after was only going to be in town a few more days. This job was special. The guy that hired him to pull it wanted this specific car. Even if Rhett stole a different car that was exactly the same it wouldn't matter. This was a revenge job as much as it was about the money. Rhett had to be careful not to damage the car he was stealing. No cosmetic damage anyways.
Rhett took a few steps forward. He was almost afraid to touch her. She was so gorgeous she looked like a piece of art. He was afraid that if he touched her she might break. A wicked grin still plastered on his face as he moved closer. He knew she came back for him and not the money. She didn't want the money. She wanted him. Rhett was inclined to give her what she wanted. First though he needed to do this job. It would damage his reputation if he didn't, not to mention someone would be around to break his kneecaps and he didn't want the hassle of having to deal with that.. "Just a few quick stops I promise." He said lying through his teeth. She wanted him bad enough to come back for him..... Let's see if she's willing to look the other way on a few bad deeds. He thought as he slipped behind the wheel of his charger. Rhett Made Leonard and Lacy crawl in the backseat as he leaned over and opened the door for her. "Come on honey get in." He said with a smile. What a day today is turning out to be he thought.
She slowly slid off the hood of her car, retrieved her violin and locked her vehicle up. Then she moved to the back seat of the car he was getting into, set her fiddle on the floor behind her seat, and slid herself into the front seat. Before she even put her buckle on, she scooted up close to him and reached to touch his face, turning his face so he was looking at her. She leaned in real close, and he would smell the cinnamon on her breath to cover up that burrito she had scarfed down, as she was speaking to him... "I know what you're doing, you asked me to help you, remember? Don't bullshit me, old fart. I didn't come here to steal shit, but I don't care what you do. Kay? Just don't bullshit me, and don't push me." With that, she gave him a kiss on the corner of his mouth, then pulled back to look at him.
She adjusted herself to sit in the seat correctly, buckling her belt and giving him a sidelong glance. "Well? Show me how you get naughty, you old putz... If you follow my two little rules for me? I might even let you have more than just some kisses." It seems she had thought about all this already, not because she was a mind reader, but because she couldn't get the man out of her head. She was highly annoyed by it, to be honest. But there she was... in that car... getting ready to accompany him while he got into all kinds of trouble...
All because she wanted to be with him, give him a chance. Maybe it was the way he had kissed her earlier, or the way he took her to the place to hear the music but acted like he only cared about the food. He didn't fool her, he felt it too. It was he who initiated the kiss, after all.
When Rhett wanted to be... He could be a flirt. When he was on a job however, he was all business. Rhett smiled at the rearview mirror and suggested that she buckle herself in. Rhett wasn't the type to pull punches and he liked to drive, fast. Rhett would break the speed limit on occasion and whip the car around a hard turn. Rhett liked to drift around corners and weave through traffic. Before he decided his time was better spend robbing people, Rhett was actually showing promise in a career as a stunt driver in Hollywood. It wasn't enough excitement though so he found something to better occupy his time.
Rhett started the car and the engine roared to life. He was going to be pulling it kind of close. This job had to happen within the next hour. The car that was to be stolen had to be on a boat very soon. If it missed it's ride then Rhett would not get paid. It wasn't about the money though. Rhett had money. It was a point of pride for Rhett. He had never failed a job that he was hired to do, and he had never turned down a job for being to risky or to difficult. It was just his personal pride on the line here as well as his reputation for being the guy who can get anything done.
Rhett roared down the road. The song on the radio wasn't terrible loud, but it was enough to cause Rhett to smile and bob his head lightly. He was sure this wasn't Martha's type of music, but Rhett loved this country boy stuff. He was from the south after all. He grew up on music like this. Rhett turned the wheel hard and barreled around another corner. He weaved in and out of cars as he kept an eye on that rearview mirror. Rhett was driving fast and drifiting corners, but he drove so gracefully it felt like you were riding on a cloud. It wasn't scary, it was like being on a well timed rollercoaster ride. Rhett pulled the car over and waited on the side of the road. The car he needed should be here any minute. The guy had an appointment with a lawyer about this time. He should be showing up with the car any second. Rhett turned in his seat and looked at Martha. He smiled at her lightly. Her beautiful eyes staring back at him.
"Ok, so I'm going to take a car that doesn't exactly belong to me. I just need you to follow me in this car.... Follow me to the shipping docks and then we can go some place to celebrate." Rhett said. The smile was touching his lips again. He always had that look of excitement twinkling in his eye. You could never tell if he was just happy to see you or happy to be doing something bad. It was a little of both in this case. Rhett was really liking how she threw caution to the wind and decided to be a little bad with him.
She nodded, and thought about it for a moment. Most of the time, she was careful with driving, but hitting her head might have knocked a little fun into her life a bit ago. Besides, she could overlook it this time, right? More because she wanted to see how far he was going to take something else. She licked her lips with the anticipation she started to feel, rather than the dread she thought she was going to feel. Martha would then say, “Deal. Just don't drive too fast ahead of me, okay?”
Her eyes did stare back at him, but then she turned to get her compact and some lipstick out of her handbag. She said, “I think I will doll myself up a little more for this.” She grinned, then opened the cherry red lipstick that matched the red of that form fitting dress. She applied the lipstick with gentle strokes... Oh, he paid for that too.
When she was done, she put it away and then fluffed at her hair, and adjusted the girls. Then she said on a low voice, “How much longer till we get there?” It was said out of curiosity. She reached to the volume knob, not to turn it all the way down, but just enough not to have to strain her voice talking to him. After all, she did need that for her power, right?
Rhett put the car in park. He could see up ahead the car he was supposed to take. It was an expensive high dollar car, that was never really his style. He would happily take it off the owners hands though. He got out of the car and handed his keys to Martha. Looking around he pulled a tool out of his jacket. Leaning back in the window he had that cocky confident smile washing over his tired face. "Just gotta follow me, I won't be going to fast." He said and jogged over to the other car. It was sitting in a parking lot all by itself. The self righteous douche that owned it parked by himself because he didn't want other cars to scratch or ding his baby. Rhett shoved a crowbar like tool into the window and started to work it around. His baby was about to get kidnapped. "Come on...Urgh you piece of shit." Then there was a small pop sound as the door lock unlocked. Rhett opened the car and slid gracefully inside. He tossed the slim jim on the passenger seat beside him.
"Ok ramblers... Let's get rambling." Rhett said adjusting the rearview mirror. He pulled as screwdriver from his pocket and jammed it into the ignition. It wasn't long before the car was puring to life. Rhett let out an excited cry as he checked the rearview again. He wasn't sure how much of the risk this girl wanted on her lap, but her risk here was next to nothing. Rhett's car was his own. It wasn't stolen. All she had to do here was distract anyone who came nosing around. They had a nice quiet drive to the docks ahead of them, then he was going to celebrate a successful job. He had set aside 2 grand to pay her for helping with the job. He figured he could easily take that 2 grand and take her out to the best damn dinner she's ever had in her life. She already seemed dressed for the occasion after all. Rhett sped down the road letting a yee haw spill from his lips as he felt the rush of the speed.
He hoped that Martha was still behind him. Checking his watch he only had about 15 minutes to get there before they were too late. Rhett knew she didn't want him driving fast, but this was a race against the clock. She handled herself pretty good in the presence of some truly unnerving things. The way his dolls didn't seem to bother her much was a huge plus. He only hoped she was just as calm under pressure when faced with something like stealing a car. The owner was insured. He'd get a replacement and he had the money to cover the premiums. Rhett knew that already. It was a win win for everyone. The thing that Rhett didn't tell Martha was that there was no danger to this job. Sure, some guy who hated the car owner had paid him to steal the car to teach the guy a lesson. But Rhett had already talked to the car's owner. The car's owner was insured and he wanted a different color car of the same Model. Some spoiled rich brat with more money than problems. They guy himself was actually paying Rhett to steal his own car. Rhett kept these details a secret to see how Martha would react to the thought of possibly breaking the law and the thought of cops maybe bearing down on them. And she agreed to it anyways. He had to say he was pretty impressed.
Rhett whipped the car around another corner and pulled up to a stoplight. When Martha pulled up at the stoplight behind him. Rhett put his mental thought into Leonard who was sitting in the passenger's seat. Leonard leaned forward and opened the glove box. There was a radio in there. Leonard reached and grabbed the radio before handing it to Martha. In the car ahead of them Rhett pulled out another radio from his jacket. He always had radios so he could quickly contact the follow car to let them know any last minute change of plans. "How ya doing back there? Try not to throw up in my seats ok? the apolstrie's new. HAHAHAHA." Rhett couldn't help but laugh. He couldn't get a good look at her face. The bright sun was glaring in his eyes, but the light turned green and he sped off. As he did he leaned slightly out the window. He let the wind catch his hair and he enjoyed the thrill of breaking the law.
She drove behind him as carefully as she could, feeling quite worried that she would hit something due to the head injury she was still healing from if she wasn't careful. It was surprising enough she had driven her own car as far as she had without another accident. She was doing so well, this time. She did pretty well, she thought as she rounded a corner behind Rhett. He was trying to be at an easy pace to follow, though he did seem to get lead footed every now and then. And then he used a two way to get a hold of her.
“Doin' just fine, honey.” She replied as she, too, sped up. “So far, no touble in paradise for ya, buddy. We almost there?” She wanted him back behind the wheel soon, only because of her nerves. Her head was hurting a little from trying to concentrate on the back of the stolen car.
Her foot lightened up on the gas when she noticed him slow down. A deep breath was taken and she rounded another corner, eventually to pull up behind him once they did reach the docks. Finally, she thought, unbuckling and scooting back over to the passenger seat. Okay, that wasn't as hard as she thought it would be.
