The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

>>"I guess I figured that once I could get my power to work and stop working on command that I'd gotten all the help I needed. It's not like I'm going to make a huge difference with my powers like some people do...at least not in the way they do it."
"Hey, just because you don't fight bad guys head on, that doesn't mean you can't make a difference." Gawain said, smiling, but he was serious about what he said. Not everyone had to be an X-warrior. Some kids at the school seemed to see it as the ultimate goal for mutants, but after years on the team, Gawain knew better. Everyone had something useful to do, but it did not have to be combat.
"So... what are you studying for?" he nodded towards the textbooks "You picked a major yet?"
Janelle supposed that was true, she'd never really thought of things that way though. To her, the mansion had been a place where people either learned how to control their mutations to a point where they could integrate with society, or they became a part of the larger picture. They used their powers to affect real change on the city and sometimes the world. Those were the people with powers like Gawain though, powers that could do things.
Gawain asked what she was studying for and Janelle tucked the flower into the Angua's collar. "There. Now you're pretty." she said, then picked up her biology text to show Gawain the cover. "Freshman Bio. It's actually my favorite class. I am predictably a botany major...so it makes sense."
Janelle studied her new friend for a moment, she couldn't really tell how old he was. "What about you? You in school?"
>>"Freshman Bio. It's actually my favorite class. I am predictably a botany major...so it makes sense."
Gawain chuckled. It did make sense, for a girl who had a genetic connection to plants to be interested in botany and biology. Maybe the more she learned, the more she would figure out about her own powers as well... Gawain wanted to ask something else, but she once again turned the conversation back to him.
>>"What about you? You in school?"
"Nah" Gawain shrugged "I mean In finished high school here, but since then... things just have been kinda chaotic. So I work here now, and I'm on the X-team... But nah, no school. Although sometimes friends talk to talk me into it." he added with a smirk. Serena had made some attempts recently.
Well how about that, Janelle had found herself a real member of the X-Team. Sure she'd seen them around, and some of them even taught at the school, but it wasn't like she hung out and talked to any of them or pet their dogs.
"That must be exciting." The little redhead said, "And I can understand that you wouldn't have time for school immediately. There's always time though, if you decide you'd like it."
College was a lot to handle though, even for someone who wasn't on a team of vigilantes who fought evil on a regular basis.
Gawain smirked. Exciting indeed. Terrifying, occasionally, and downright depressing every once in a while. But in the end, there was nothing like it. Nothing like using one's powers to kick some ass, and do some good in the world...
>>"And I can understand that you wouldn't have time for school immediately. There's always time though, if you decide you'd like it."
"Sure." the mirrorwalker grinned, flopping down on his back in the soft grass, resting his head against Angua, who decided to lie down again. "My grades have never been that good, though... I guess not everyone gets to be the science genius of the team" he grinned up at Janelle. She had plant powers and she was studying science. There was so many possible applications...
"Oh, can you, like, make fruit?" he ventured. It was too early for fruit on the Mansion grounds yet, but one could hope...
Science genius. Janelle snorted a bit at the though. If that had been true, she wouldn't have had to spend the whole morning studying. It was, however, nice to see someone take such an interest in her powers. Nobody had found them this interesting in a long time.
Could she make fruit?
Janelle nodded her head at the question, "As long as the flower has already been pollinated. I can't make something out of nothing. The parts have to already be there. I can...move things along though." she glanced around the grounds, it was too early for fruit to be growing, but some of the plants might be in bloom. "Got something in mind?"
Okay, so maybe fruit was a little far fetched, but Gawain was genuinely curious. He peered up from where he lay against Angua's side, listening to her answer.
>>"As long as the flower has already been pollinated. I can't make something out of nothing. The parts have to already be there. I can...move things along though."
"That's... pretty awesome, actually." Gawain was aware that he was starting to sound repetitive, but truly, her powers were kind of fascinating to him. Sure, he could walk through mirrors, and into movies, and his body changed sometimes... but creating something, like nature did, that was a whole other level.
>>"Got something in mind?"
"Maybe." Gawain smirked, before he rolled to stand up. As he did, Angua was on her feet too, apparently curious what would happen next "C'mon."
The cherry trees behind the Mansion building were in early bloom. They did not make a full orchard, but a few fruit trees had been planted in the past years, in hopes of offering healthy snacks to Mansion students, and something hands-on for biology classes. The weather had been nice enough that the flowers had been out on them from the start of the week. Gawain was not sure how the whole pollination thing was going for them, but it was worth a try.
