The X-men run missions and work together with the NYPD, striving to maintain a peaceful balance between humans and mutants. When it comes to a fight, they won't back down from protecting those who need their help.
Haven presents itself as a humanitarian organization for activists, leaders, and high society, yet mutants are the secret leaders working to protect and serve their kind. Behind the scenes they bring their goals into reality.
From the time when mutants became known to the world, SUPER was founded as a black-ops division of the CIA in an attempt to classify, observe, and learn more about this new and rising threat.
The Syndicate works to help bring mutantkind to the forefront of the world. They work from the shadows, a beacon of hope for mutants, but a bane to mankind. With their guiding hand, humanity will finally find extinction.
Since the existence of mutants was first revealed in the nineties, the world has become a changed place. Whether they're genetic misfits or the next stage in humanity's evolution, there's no denying their growing numbers, especially in hubs like New York City. The NYPD has a division devoted to mutant related crimes. Super-powered vigilantes help to maintain the peace. Those who style themselves as Homo Superior work to tear society apart for rebuilding in their own image.

A bottle of water flew up to Quin and she caught it before handing to to Max. So she was a mutant as well. Mad put that on his list of things to think of later. For now he just sipped on the water.
Quin asked the pressing questions, questions Max found himself asking as well. They were questions he was afraid to find the answers to. What if he went home, dug up his grave and found himself staring at his own body? What did that make him? He took another drink and shook his head.
"I haven't. I don't know what's in that pine box and it kinda scares the hell out of me." He Answered honestly.
She then asked if his parents knew. Here was where things got more complicated.
"No. If they knew I was alive they would want answers and as you know I have few to give. I can't contact them and if I get myself declared alive they would find out." He said slowly, "but someone else could talk to them."

Quin nodded to Max's comment about the pine box. It was intimidating as hell to think about the fact that your own body could be in a box while it was also...here. This was definitely a question that needed answering.
There was also the fact that his parents didn't know he was alive.
...
Quin frowned slightly at Max. There was a problem there...no parent should go on thinking that their kid was dead when he was alive.
"Someone else could tell them?" The redhead thought about that for a moment, then shrugged her shoulders.
"I guess it would be weird if you like...showed up."
Quin was silent for a moment, thinking things through and trying to find some balance in a situation that was definitely a bit...complicated.
"I guess that the next question is...what do you want to do about it?"

"I guess that the next question is...what do you want to do about it?"
It was the million dollar question. What did he want to do about it? Ever since he had come back to life Max had been stumbling through life, rolling with the punches and trying to make his new path. Now was the time he decided what kind of man he wanted to be. One who ran away from his problem or one who faces the challenges his life has brought.
"I need to go see if my body is in that grave and I need to hear my parents side of the story. I don't know what is going to happen when I do but if I don't I'll always be wondering." He said.
He took a drink of the water and gave Quin a determined look. She was already going out on a limb for him by looking into his case. How much more could he ask of the detective? It seemed he would have to ask a bit more.
"If you came with me you could talk to my parents and see what they know. We can look at my grave and get some answers. I know it's a lot to ask but I think it's my only chance to find out." He said quietly.

Quin nodded her head in support of Max's comments. A person needed to know if they were actually dead. It wouldn't too hard for her to get the incident report from when Max had been hit by the car, he continued talking and she shook her head.
Then he asked her to go with him to help figure things out.
Well. That had escalated quickly. A hand was hovering a few feet away, waiting to be shaken to solidify some sort of partnership. Quin involuntarily scowled a bit at the term. Still...she didn't have anything to do for the next couple of weeks and despite the fact that Max was great at finding evidence of illegal activity, looking into something this size was bound to be tough. The kid was in trouble and something in Quin just couldn't let that go.
"Why not." the redhead said casually, reaching out to clasp his hand. "But if I go, you have to let me take the lead on all of the investigative stuff. If something fishy is going on, I need to know you'll listen."
His parents were going to think she was crazy. Handshake finished, Quin rose to walk to her laptop and access the accident report from the day Max had died.
"Let's see what we can find here first, and while I look, tell me about your powers."

Quin shook his hand and Max smiled. It felt good to have somone on his side with this, working with him to figure out what was going on. He had talked to Devon about his feelings concerning his sudden resurrection and the man had been a miracle when it came to helping get Max on his feet. That being said he also had two companies to help run and Max didn't wanna burden him with any more trouble. Quin was capable, determined, and obviously a skilled investigator. Who better to help him.
If something fishy is going on, I need to know you'll listen."
"You talk like you think I'll have trouble taking orders." He said releasing her hand with a devilish smile, "You're in charge detective."
They rose and Max followed her towards her laptop. She inquired about his abilities and Max remembered that he hadn't ever gone over them with Quin before.
"I can manipulate gravity on myself or things I touch. Direction, strength, stuff like that. The window thing? That was me making myself weightless to jump from the fifth floor with that girl they had captive. The guy I threw down the hallway. I just changed gravity so he fell sideways instead of down and let his weight do the rest," He explained. "It gives me a few handy tricks but nothing too impressive."
It wasn't like he and Lazer eyes or could burst into flames. Max always found his ability lackluster, whether it was because he had simply gotten so used to it that it felt mundane or because he had seen some of the flashier abilities out there.
"What about you? I assume your power isn't water bottle manipulation." He asked

Gravity manipulation. Well that was a heck of a thing. If nothing else, it made Max's stunt in the hallway of the abandoned building make a lot more sense. It was interesting how nonchalant most people were about their powers. Max could manipulate one of the foundational forces of nature and talked about it as though it were nothing.
Nice...I'm sure I will have questions later, but now that I'm aware I can plan better.
Now it was Quin's turn to share what she could do. Max thought he was being funny with his quip about manipulating water bottles but....
Quin pulled another water bottle towards her, this one empty and caught it in her outstretched hand. "Now you see it." she said, turning the bottle so that the top pushed against one hand and the bottom pushed against the other. Quickly she brought her hands together "Now you don't!" Indeed, the bottle had disappeared. In its place, the redhead pulled what looked like clear silly putty between her fingers. A few quick motions and Quin had made a rough little sculpture of a dog. She held it out to Max, if he took it, the plastic would be every bit as solid as the water bottle had been.
"Synthetic polymers...as much as I can figure." . She said, matter of factory. "I can do stuff to them and tell when they're around. Notice how none of the bad guys had functional bY the time you got there the other night? It's a little known fact that there is a little plastic piece that holds the clip in some guns. In others, it's the rounds themselves, in others it's the grips, or tons of other things...comes in handy working with Kevlar too."
Quin smiled, "You wouldn't believe how many keyboards I ruined before I figured things out."
A thought occurred to Quin and she frowned, "Did you have your powers before...the accident?"

Quin made note of Max's ability like a mechanic would make note of the tools in his box. Max could almost see the wheels of calculation spinning in her mind. For all he knew by the end of this she might have some ideas of how he could use his power.
Then she showed him what she could do. Max watched as another bottle floated her way. This time she crushed it but instead of a flat cylinder Max saw a statue of a dog. She offered him it and he took it assessing it. A solid plastic figure, and the details were rough but present, that would have taken pinpoint control of her ability. She finished explaining the details and Max smiled.
"That's damn adaptable. Talk about the perfect Era for it it. Synthetic polymers are in almost everything. You could really do some damage with this. Remind me to stay on your good side " He said
She asked if his abilities were a new development and he laughed.
"I've had my powers since I was thirteen. Unless they've changed in some way I've yet to experience they were unaffected by the incident." He answered.

Adaptable. That was one way to describe her power, Quin decided. She'd never thought of it in those terms, but she supposed it really was the case. In modern day New York, a person was hard pressed to find something that was free of some kind of polymer. It had saved Quin's life in more than one occasion. "It definitely comes in handy...and the other night you were well in your way to my bad side. It's not the most useful power in combat, but I've managed to figure a few things that help."
Max responded to her somewhat odd question and Quin nodded her head. Well. At least something about this case was normal. The redhead couldnlt hel the little sign of relief that escaped her at the knowledge that Max had come by his abilities in much the same way everyone else did. Sure there were late bloomers and early risers, but Max's story was the most common, at least in this respect.
"Good to know, that's one less thing we have to try to explain. I need to make a few phone calls and see if I can track down that police report. I know the guy running records, I took an avacado and kale salad to his kid's second birthday a few weeks ago. He owes me one." Strictly speaking, Quin wasn't allowed to pole into records while in suspension...but this simply wasn't the kinds of case that was going to get solved on the books.
OOC - we are probably approaching a good wrap spot for this one. If you want to tie things up, we can start plotting the last steps after you're done with your show.

...and the other night you were well in your way to my bad side.
Max gave a wry smile in response to the statement as she continued her explanation of power. In retrospect it was incredibly lucky that things had turned out the way they had. He had Quin on his side for this investigation, and despite her terse exterior Max felt like there was a good choice we were going to become friends. Beat the hell out of spending a night in jail and paying some boatload of fines.
She said she had some calls to make and Max gave a terse nod.
"Sounds good. I have to run down some things on my end, unrelated to this case" He added.
Haven business was up, and Max needed to get started on it. The indulgence of investigating his own death was important but he had other responsibilities.
"Give me a call if you find anything. I'll be in touch. Once I get my schedule sorted we can plan our trip." He said.
He offered his hand to her again this time his face set.

Max needed to run some things down too. Quin nodded her head, already starting to get absorbed in her computer as she logged into a database. She'd missed the part about how they were unrelated to their current case and therefore didn't even think to ask what else a 20 year old kid would need to be running down.
Said 20 year old offered a hand, and his thanks with instructions to call him if she needed anything. Had she been this put together when she'd been that age? Somehow the redhead didn't think so.
"Will do." she responded, shaking the proffered hand, "Same goes for you...try to stay out of trouble, and it's not a problem. Whether or not they're letting me do it...helping out is my job."
Besides, it wasn't every day you got to help a zombie figure out the circumstances of his own death.
