Kendra stepped outside behind the mansion and found herself staring at a large hedge maze. The bracing wind outside sent a chill to her bones and she bundled up in her light billowy sweater. It was beige and a little to big for her. The sleeves of her sweater dwarfed her hands and she held on the edges of her sleeve in the palms of her hands as she crossed her arms against her chest. Kendra had spent the first few nights in the mansion just wandering the halls in her dreams and exploring every inch of the place.

She stood outside the maze starting at the ominous foreboding entry.  She stood there looking at the tall hedges of the maze.  Something shadowy moved around the walls of the maze.  Like a ripple cutting through reality.  Kendra blinked a few times.  What was that?  She thought.  She knew she was dreaming, but she had never experienced anything like that in her dream walking before.  Must be another mutant roaming around using some power.  She thought casually and headed inside the mazes. 

She had nothing but free time in her nights to explore and she was going to conquer the maze.  It would give her something to do anyways.  Something that her mind could focus on.  She had all the time in the world.  Kendra moved through the maze.  Her hair blew through the wind as she huddled tighter against the cold.  Eventually the tall walls of the maze protected her from the cutting wind though there was still a chill to the air.  Kendra moved through the maze quietly.  It wasn't long before she found herself lost in the maze.   

The walls seemed to crawl. They seemed to dance and move as if they were not quite solid. It could be the gentle wind blowing the hedges, but she noticed the light ripple moving across the edges of the wall too. That something shadowy that she couldn't quite place. Her dreams were always indistinguishable from the waking world except for the pink aura that surrounded her like a shroud.

Kendra kept going. She moved through the world as if she were drifting. She was walking of course, but she felt as if ghostly fingers were carrying her across the soft grass. Kendra concentrated hard. She saw the ripple begin to pulse and change like it was breaking apart in the center and slowly dispersing around the edges. What is happening? She thought. How is this.... And suddenly her head began to hurt. The ripple was gone and there was nothing but the gentle swaying hedges of the maze. Was she doing that? Was I the one that was causing that weird ripple?

"I must be going out of my mind."  Kendra said quietly.  She took another turn down another haunted path only to find a dead end.  She was smart enough to figure this out.  She could find her way out of the maze.  "Ahhhh"  She screamed in frustration.  She didn't realize how far this maze went.  She'd be stuck in here all night trying to find her way out.  Her hand slunk down into her pocket and she felt her cell phone.  She could always give up and start over.  Effectively hitting the reset button.  All she had to do was call herself on the phone and she would wake up.  She had a cell phone and a room.  If she called the phone beside her bed she would wake up instantly and she would find herself back in her bed.  No.  She thought.  I can figure this out.  She took a deep breathe and tried to concentrate on the turns that she had taken.

Kendra didn't know where to start.  For one thing the fact that she was somehow shifting the edges of reality itself seemed rather disturbing.  She wondered what it was she was doing. What effect it had on the real world and if others could see it or only her. She didn't know all she knew was that it made her head hurt. Kendra had a killer migraine now. She didn't even know how she was doing it all she did was concentrate really hard. She wasn't even thinking about anything other than this stupid maze.

Kendra sighed. Ok. Get it together girl.  You still have to get out of this maze.  She reminded herself.  The fact that she was starting to scare herself was one thing, but she really didn't want to spend the entire night wandering around a maze.  She took a few deep breathes and closed her eyes.  She tried to remember the turns she had taken so far.  Right. Right.  Left Right Left Left... Right?  No left. 

Above her the moon was high in the sky.  She looked up at it.  The silvery glow of the moon made her look almost ghostly in her pink aura shroud.  Why did she think this would be fun again?  Kendra was frustrated.  She was worried and most of all.... Her head hurt. 

She just wanted to figure out how to get out.  She wanted to see what was on the other side of this stupid maze.  What if I wander around and find a skeleton in here of some poor fool who tried and failed to do this.  Kendra wondered.  Oh come on get real!  This is a school that stuff doesn't happen.  Still, the thought creeped her out.  Ok.  She told herself.  Use your abilities.  You have some.  Use them. 

Kendra began to teleport around.  She could simply teleport herself out of the maze but that would be cheating.  She was determined to not let this maze best her despite how scared she was.  Kendra zipped up her hoody and pulled the hood over her head.  "Alirght Maze, prepare to be conquered."  That was corny, but so was she.  She felt like she had to hyper herself up for the folly that lied ahead.  Kendra blinked from one pathway to the other.  She only blinked to the end of the path and never to another row entirely.  She was trying to speed things up, but she didn't want to teleport over walls she wanted to find her way through them.

Blink blink blink. blink blink. blink blink blink BLINK!  Kendra stopped.  She found a path that led to a fountain in the center.  She was at least great with her teleport ability.  It was like second nature to her now.  At first when she first realized she could do it at all it was a nightmare.  Give a clumsy accident prone woman the ability to teleport and watch the hilarity ensue.  Kendra stopped teleporting and resigned herself to walking now.  The fountain was beautiful.  She admired it for several moments before taking a seat on a nearby bench.  She sighed and looked up at the moon again.

The silvery glow made her smile.  She couldn't tell you why but she always loved a full moon.  Something about it soothed her, made her feel safe.  Kendra pulled out her phone and looked at the time.  11:42 pm.  Well I got plent of time to figure this out.  I'll just take a short rest she thought.  She leaned back on the bench and enjoyed the brisk cool air rushing into her lungs as she stared up at the moon and wondered what the hell that ripple was all about.

Kendra stood up after some time and finally decided she was ready to face the maze once more.  This challenge will not defeat me I won't let it.  she thought determined to find her way out of this deadly maze.  It was starting to get colder despite the maze.  Kendra's body felt things more muted when she was dream walking but it didn't matter.  She still felt the bracing cold. 

Shivering a bit she stood up and started to move past the fountain.  No time like the present she thought as she moved closer to the other side of the maze.  You're have way done.  She thought and took another hesitant step.  Kendra knew that Emily probably wouldn't have wanted her out here doing this, but it wasn't something she had any control over.  Emily had her while she was awake, her dreams were hers to do with what she wanted.   Right now all she wanted was to find her way out of the maze.

Kendra took another step ready to face her fears..... Suddenly she was awake.  She was lying in bed.  Kendra's eyes shot open and her head snapped to the side as she heard some kids running down the hall laughing.  "Son of...." She started.  Then she remembered that Emily was sleeping peacefully right beside her.  Kendra's shoulder's slumped.  She looked at the clock.  It was 2AM..... She groaned. Laying back down she just stared at the ceiling.  She didn't feel like going back to sleep.  She decided to just lay there until morning and try and figure out what had happened with the ripple in the maze.....
