"See? Sneaky." And pointy, as Ghost's little monster had demonstrated. She hoped the young woman didn't plan on using that silverware after the cat had bitten and stepped on and slobbered all over it. It was bad enough there was loose fur all over the place without finding a more direct way to share the cat's cooties.
"I'm not really an animal person. We don't get along," she answered Abby, hoping to discourage any more attempts at finding a specific creature she didn't mind. She also hoped the girl wouldn't start digging for reasons behind her distrust of the furry little monsters. Those were much to embarrassing to be sharing with anyone. Kids really asked too many questions.
The tea was delivered and Isabel watched the kid's perched kitten with growing apprehension. Kittens were clumsy and uncoordinated, and kids tended to be the same way. It seemed like only a matter of time before the furball tumbled and knocked something over. And yet somehow they managed it. She took her cup quickly, so as not to tempt fate, and sipped carefully at the hot tea.
"So what's the plan after lunch?" she asked, doubting it could be much worse than the place they'd come from but still worried that they'd manage to top it somehow. If she was lucky this would be the end of the line. "Please don't say the Mansion. I don't think they'd be too happy to see me there."

I’m just a well-adjusted gal who likes to leave a serious amount of mayhem in her wake.
